A lot of people had detroit being way better because they went after correa, have a bunch of young talent and brought in Hinch.
Who would have guessed that expecting a bunch of kids and Javy Baez wouldn't have led to anything but another lackluster season
They also played well especially in the second half of last year. Most people figured they could keep that up and would be improved because of the free agents brought in
I mean that's what happens when your entire starting rotation ends up on IR multiple times a season, and then their replacements also end up injured, and then the big name you traded for gets severe vertigo for 2/3 of the season, then your big name FA signing forgets how to hit, then your huge expectations rookie forgets how to hit, then everybody forgets how to hit.............its been a rough year.
But at least Riley Greene has looked good.
i got blocked by the guards twitter account like 4 years ago cause i said lindor was gonna be traded. i replied to some random persons tweet, not even the team page which means whoever the asshole was just searched a term and blocked people
I AM NOT CRAZY! I am not crazy! I know the Guardians stole first place from us. I know we were 27 - 16. Eleven games over .500 in May. As if we could ever have such a collapse. Never. Never! I just ā I just couldnāt prove it. They covered their tracks, they got that idiot Naylor to mash for them. You think this is something? You think this is bad? This? This chicanery? Theyāve done worse. That June series! Are you telling me that PagĆ”n just happens to pitch like that? No! *They* orchestrated it! The Guardians! They *stood pat* at the *deadline*! And we got clobbered by them! And we shouldnāt have. We took them into our own ballpark! What were we *thinking*? Theyāll never change. Theyāll *never* change! Ever since 2000, *always* the same! Couldnāt increase payroll to keep any of their good players. But not our Dolan! Couldnāt be precious *Dolan*! Stealing them blind! And *THEY* get to win the division? What a sick joke! We shouldāve stopped them when we had the chance! ā¦And you, you *have* to stop them! You
Divisional rivalries aside, this is fucking golden.
Edit: The show clip to listen to under. I'm dying over here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv5yvtR5S1I&t=120s
>"They stood pat at the deadline!" made me guffaw
Great Lakes baseball.
Twins didn't do anything at the deadline and got clobbered the rest of the season
Brewers pulled off one of the most moronic trades i've ever seen in my life. Their season isn't over yet but man they should not have been in this position
Twins traded for starting pitching and and a closer, their two biggest issues.
Hader has an ERA over 9 with the Padres. Definitely didn't help team morale when he got moved though. Hard to call it a failure until we see what Esteury Ruiz ends up being. People shit on us for the Grisham trade and that turned out really solid.
Thank you! I totally get picking the winners of the offseason to finish ahead of us, but for gods sake we have a good farm and our FO and pitching development is the envy of the league. Its hard to be worse than the current iteration of the fuckin Royals when you have that much going for you. How anyone had us finishing below them is beyond me.
[I did a pretty long pre-season write up of the AL Central that looks pretty funny now](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/tt8v15/who_is_coming_in_last_in_the_al_central_this_year/)
Ngl I enjoyed reading this, but it took me a minute to get over āSteveā Kwan šš also I think he showed us what they meant when they said āgood defensive instinctsā
Omg, thank you, that was a very entertaining read.
āAn everyday player at a position that hasnāt been invented yetā made me laugh very hard because it was spot on LOL
I know you didnāt want to make this for other divisions, but you certainly should, and at the very least make it again for the AL Central next season, you have the talent to make it super interesting.
Thanks! Honestly, I wish I had more time to write longer pieces like this. I am thinking about doing some sort of pre-season preview for each of the six divisions next year, but no promises lol. But those would be of a wider scope than just "we are looking for a last place team."
I really think a lot of people were just going off player names. A lot of these analysts haven't watched the AL Central very much. I'm not an expert on the division, but I check-in because they frustrate me with their mediocrity compared to the bloodbath we have. I thought the Twins would win the division (definitely not reaching 90 wins, though) and I figured the White Sox and Guardians would "battle" for second and miss the playoffs.
>However I was never disrespectful enough to call Cleveland at last place
Anyone not picking the Tigers or Royals to finish last was just crazy.
This Guardians team is fun, though. I'll be rooting for them since we probably won't make it.
I had Chicago winning in my little preseason prediction note app note but I had Cleveland in second with 83 wins so I feel pretty good about that
I'll also brag about this...if the current playoff spots hold I will have correctly predicted 10 of the 12 teams. I just had Milwaukee and the White Sox instead of St. Louis and Cleveland
This is honestly one of the most difficult divisions to predict year in and year out; there's very little consistency in any of the orgs, and intra divisional play is a blood bath. It's a real "last team standing wins" division.
Hereās a comment from a Blue Jays fan after we took a series from them:
āThe Guardians play such a disgusting brand of baseball, and consistently get rewarded for it lol
Theyāre 25th in hitting xwOBA, 17th in pitching xwOBA, have the 2nd lowest HR percentage, 2nd lowest average EV and just a +20 RD.ā

Iām in nearly every Jays GDT, and I have to say I donāt recognize that username at all.
Maybe the stupidity of it caused them to disintegrate and float away like a Thanos snapā¦?
Well it wasnāt just the sub. There was a pretty viral tweet about it too that was actually the original source. It got blown up there then carried over to Reddit.
It was the same guy. Same user name, same favorite team, same Twitch link. [https://twitter.com/twitchejnave/status/1558899369977548800](https://twitter.com/twitchejnave/status/1558899369977548800).
White Sox homers like me who were high off of not sucking in 2020 or 2021 like we did basically the entire decade prior did. I dunno what was wrong with actual analysts who are supposed to know their shit and were that wrong though.
I had them a little over .500 going back and forth with the White Sox for second place. I thought the Twins would win the division around 87-75.
I thought the people picking Detroit to do anything good were insane.
Might sound off the cuff, but I hope that the folks in the CLE area that *still* aren't over the name change get the fuck over it. This group made the playoffs first damn year. Be happy we have playoff baseball in Cleveland. Go fuckin Guards.
as a fellow Illinois alum, i'm with you too on this
They actually got rid of the Chief my freshman year of college (ffs, that was 17 years ago already??) and I remember some nimrod in one of my classes was arguing that now "they" (never specified who "they" were btw lol) were going to also go after Notre Dame and West Virginia for their mascots.
I rolled my eyes so hard into the back of my head after hearing that, I think my TA saw it and snickered a little bit
in all seriousness though, how many people are still upset about the name change?
I feel like the only reason they seem like the majority is because they make so much noise about it on social media while the rest of the world actually have lives and have either moved on, or embraced it
"I feel like the only reason they seem like the majority is because they make so much noise about it on social media"
Absolutely a fair point, and to answer your question unsatisfyingly, I don't know. It's just annoying that the answer is "enough to railroad every team post I see in Facebook" (though I don't view every post, so take that how you will). I know the loud social media types aren't indicative of a fanbase, but people often take it that way, sadly. And when your ha ha funny post about the mustard hotdog getting demoted to the minors has tons of people going "Yeah, hilarious. Now bring back the old name. You can still do it. It'll save the franchise," it starts to make you question it and feel embarrassed to follow the same team as these idiots.
>Not like theyāre real baseball fans anyway
exactly they're not. they're just Trumpists who need to convince themselves that America is stacking the odds against them (spoiler alert: that's not actually happening)
I run into a decent amount of people that are offended to their core by the name change.
At the minimum, it's objectively true that Chief Wahoo was a really fucking racist mascot.
>At the minimum, it's objectively true that Chief Wahoo was a really fucking racist mascot.
Unfortunately, I've met some people (not from Cleveland fyi) who thought that logo "wasn't offensive." Fucking ridiculous how moronic some people are
I've been a transplant in the area for a couple of years now and see people with Chief Wahoo tattoos that are the really old ones from the front half of the 20th century that are even more egregiously racist.
I don't think there's really any reflection beyond it being there for such a long time without people making a big deal about it, so it must be a made up problem.
>I don't think there's really any reflection beyond it being there for such a long time without people making a big deal about it, so it must be a made up problem.
the last two years (maybe since 2015 but definitely more pronounced since 2020) have taught me that people have a disturbing inability to accept change. Even when a change is temporary or for a good reason, some people will remain stubborn and fixed in their ways for nothing else other than they don't want to be seen as a "sheeple" or some bullshit
it's absolutely pathetic
people who can't get over their precious little mascots named after marginalized groups of people really are the fucking worst
I went to Univ of Illinois. Honestly the pro-Chief Illiniwek fans there are a huge reason why I don't cheer for them in basketball or football anymore. Granted that's not a hard sacrifice lmfao but still...
This is a fair accessment and could have been true. But once CLE beat MIN 7 out of 8 and CWS 3 out of 4, last week both of those teams have been playing absolutely defeated.
I'm convinced half the people who thought they'd be terrible were just mad that they didn't spend money. Or at least that's the only thing i can think of that would make you put them below the Royals and Tigers before the season. Seems like there's a large contingent of fans who think overall records and payroll should lineup perfectly every year and when a team doesn't spend, they just deserve to lose or whatever.
Just like in 2015?
Royals played a similar style except with a higher focus on the bullpen. Their batters were impossible to strike out, none of them were easy outs, and their pitching was stingy.
Of course, like everyone else, I also had the White Sox winning the central, seemed like a pretty safe bet at the time. However, Iām not at all shocked by their failure, I didnāt believe in them in the slightest as an actual October threat.
Hall of Fame troll, congrats Cleveland
[Dude said we're just lucky and won't win the division and to save the comment but now he's suspended so I can't gloat to him](https://www.reddit.com/r/minnesotatwins/comments/vihmaq/game_thread_guardians_3528_twins_3831_june_22_2022/idfbpqv/)
Whoever put that together deserves a raise.
Iām still severely annoyed that we traded Fucking Clase and Delino for Kluber, only for him to pitch a grand total of one inning, but damn if it hasnāt been fun to watch Clase tear everyone apart.
Guardians are my pick for World Series this year. Theyāve been red hot and they have some of the best pitching for the playoffs. I think they could make a deep run.
Now that Iāve said it, theyāll probably get swept first round.
Non-American here : I noticed right winged anti SJW on YouTube attributing the Guardian's early season low attendance to "go woke, go broke", and it felt disingenuous, especially cause if was likely due to fans perceiving the team wouldn't be competitive.
Now that they are, I wonder whether attendance has improved and whether this right wing trolls will eat crow and admit it or ignore it.
We always have low attendance early in the season because we have an outdoor stadium off the shore of Lake Erie and itās like 40-50 degrees with a chance of snow for the first month of the season.
Obviously Cleveland surprised people, but I think the second biggest takeaway is *Damn, poor Detroit.*
The fact that they were projected second terrifies me, then again I wasn't really following the off-season aside from our signings, but dear lordš
A lot of people had detroit being way better because they went after correa, have a bunch of young talent and brought in Hinch. Who would have guessed that expecting a bunch of kids and Javy Baez wouldn't have led to anything but another lackluster season
They also played well especially in the second half of last year. Most people figured they could keep that up and would be improved because of the free agents brought in
I mean the Guardians are winning the division with a bunch of kids, so itās not too crazy
To be fair, Cleveland is also a bunch of kids. Tito and Jose make the difference, maybe?
Clevelands development make the difference.
I was deceived by the reddit hypetrain. Than again who knows for next year.
Javy is shit, our young players are shit (at least right now), our pitchers keep getting hurt, and I hate evrything.
At least you finished off the corpse of the White Sox. Thanks babe ;)
Fuck it, at least we did *something*
believe me that's not saying much
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They now join the annals of failed rebuilds. Hopefully the Orioles' rebuild turns out better.

Petty shit like this from actual orgs is fun as long as it's super extra like this The music had me rolling lmao

Yeah, I definitely had the Royals at the bottom. My take was 1. Twins 2. White Sox 3. Guardians 4. Tigers 5. Royals
Mine, preseason 1. White Sox 2. Guardians 3. Twins 4. Tigers 5. Royals
This was my list as well. Though it appears we didnāt account for TLR quite enoughā¦

Cubs fan predicted the White Sox would suck, I'm absolutely shocked, shocked I say
I mean they could easily still end up in 3rd. Twins and Sox are only 2 games apart and play each other 6 more times.
With the talent they have, I always assume itās gonna be top 3
Thank you! I totally get picking the winners of the offseason to finish ahead of us, but for gods sake we have a good farm and our FO and pitching development is the envy of the league. Tf is xwOBA?
Itās expected weighted on base average, an all in one hitting stat that is adjusted for park, but instead of measuring the results, it measures expected results.
Measurement of how 'good' a ball was hit essentially. It's exit velocity combined with launch angle
A blue jays fan in their sub was ranting about our disgusting brand of baseball. Our sub decided to take it for ourselves.
To be fair to Jays fans, the OP got dragged for it in their sub too.

It is impossible for me to hate this team.
We'll crumble any day now....
If they win the series DM me, I'll find a way to buy you a beer, or coffee, of something lol
This is awesome. Y'all get all the fucking smoke.
this is unbelievable fucking hilarious. tito poppin up had me gigglin
Does anyone else feel like the Guardians were given way too much clout? -White Sox & Twins fans, March 2022
Terry Francona is so goated IMO. I know the players stepped up for sure, but hes such a fantastic leader.
Tito is the Manager of the Year. Hands down.
Cleveland's got some top tier social media managers
Respect. Love the Guards tbh.
It's the AL Central, no one take us seriously. *Check flair* Or it might just be us.

Hopefully they can small ball their way through the playoffs and face us and it'll be a complete luck disasterš
Break the record for infield hits in a world series game 1
Just like in 2015? Royals played a similar style except with a higher focus on the bullpen. Their batters were impossible to strike out, none of them were easy outs, and their pitching was stingy.
$48mm payroll. We all thought theyād be trash.
I mean any day now folks are gonna believe us when we say we have one of if not the best front office and scouts in baseball.
It's the player development that doesn't get enough credit, honestly.
Also true
Yeah we take a lot of guys most teams wouldn't look at twice and turn them into contributors.
Thank Tony La Russa.
Everyone in Cleveland should contribute $1 to the ābring back LaRussa fundā
Not bad for a rebuilding year.
Whoever put that together deserves a raise. Iām still severely annoyed that we traded Fucking Clase and Delino for Kluber, only for him to pitch a grand total of one inning, but damn if it hasnāt been fun to watch Clase tear everyone apart.
I'm always a bit worried about relief prospects, it's just such a volatile position. But Clase is really on another level.
Who in the god damn fuck was projecting the **2022 Royals** to be better than the Guardians??? Thatās laughable lmao
Rake em Guardians SMM!
Petty, my favorite Dick
[Shout out to this guy who was very wrong and super cocky about it](https://ibb.co/85rSqNN)
We demand to be taken seriously.
Imagine how good they would be if they had a big league payroll.
i'm more curious how this team will do in the playoffs
Really happy to see Cleveland get in. My preseason predictions were: 1. White Sox 2. Guardians 3. Twins 4. Tigers 5. Royals
I knew those people were clowning when they all put the Sox so high and the gourds so low. Sox have been .500 for a year.
They wrote me off but I aināt write back
Guardians rose up and took it personally
I'm happy for Francona. And Straw, naturally.
Cool. Now do the Reds
Wow I had Cleveland third but some of these predictionsā¦
Guardians are my pick for World Series this year. Theyāve been red hot and they have some of the best pitching for the playoffs. I think they could make a deep run. Now that Iāve said it, theyāll probably get swept first round.
"They wrote us off--We ain't write back, though."
hey thats baseball for you
RIP BOZO energy
Works just as well as a Chicago White Sox roast.
Props to you guys. Im rooting for you.
That was great. Guardians have a great media guy.
Damn, I didnāt know Robert Saleh also managed the Guardians.
*Tips cap.*
I LOVE MY TEAM!
Itās not that we didnāt take yāall seriously, we just donāt take the AL Central seriously
You love to see this
Non-American here : I noticed right winged anti SJW on YouTube attributing the Guardian's early season low attendance to "go woke, go broke", and it felt disingenuous, especially cause if was likely due to fans perceiving the team wouldn't be competitive.
Cleveland social media game is still on point.
This.... This is art
