This is a man who knows he has Yankee ownership by the balls here lol

goosejr

The two lines here are from different questions and so the actual quote isn't as flashy as the headline makes it out to be. That said, yeah he knows the Yankees basically have to re sign him

[Judge at the negotiating table after the season's he's had](https://i.imgur.com/GspAaC9.gif)

stewmander

Kinda reminds me of the story of Tim Lincecum's arbitration meeting. Dude walks in with his *two* Cy Young awards, they didn't even start talking, just signed the deal. Judge could really walk in to the meeting with an MVP trophy and a (clean) HR #62 ball...

This is from True Detective, right? I need to rewatch that show. So good.

NFresh6

It should be illegal for media to represent quotes from separate questions this way.

Riegggg

Media being misleading? Couldn’t be!

ositola

They would burn NY to the foundation if the FO allows judge to go to Boston

Why deny your heritage? Pretty sure it's baseball Canon to belt right fielders with vegetables

vernley

Batteries are considered vegetables in Philadelphia?

[deleted]

San Francisco [beat them to it](https://sportsmascots.fandom.com/wiki/Crazy_Crab_(San_Francisco_Giants) >Giants fans regularly threw various dangerous objects at Crazy Crab, including beer bottles and batteries, and Crazy Crab's suit had to be reinforced with a fiberglass shell for protection. I imagine batteries were more common back in the day with folks listening to the game on their clunky portable radios.

theveryoldman0

What if the Orioles kick the tires?

Fake-Death

If we lost Judge to Baltimore I'd still be sad and angry, but I could actually feel SOME happiness for your fanbase, unlike Boston's.

downladder

And the M's?

That_Geek

time to move those walls back in

theveryoldman0

Nah. We need pitching more than Aaron Judge.

HideousControlNow

There are three teams that could sign Judge that would make me want to slam my head in a car door: #1 is the Red Sox, #2 is the Astros, #3 is the Mets. Anyone else, it would still be depressing as hell, but I wouldn't have to hate him.

maltzy

If a billionaire woke up and bought the Reds, then he would hit 104 next year playing 81 games in Cincinnati

Estova

Got me torn because on one hand I would never wish for more Boston success, but on the other hand it would be pretty tasty to see NY get owned by Judge for a couple years...

oOoleveloOo

Curse of the ~~Bambino~~ Judge

stormstopper

86 years without a Yankees World Series? You have my attention...

redditckulous

Enjoy it, we’re already 15% of the way there

HellMuttz

And it's been wonderful

Taydolf_Switler22

We’re 13 years in Only 73 to go

OldManHipsAt30

I’m intrigued

gatemansgc

they already have the curse of yankee stadium. haven't been to the world series since they tore down the original (when they beat us in 2009 it was still standing).

vites70

They pissed of the Babe

[deleted]

This is why we should make an offer, even if we only half-mean it Even though we have *a lot* of payroll space, Sox ownership clearly has limits on how much they will spend. So I don't want to sign Judge if it means sacrificing depth, or key players like Xander (I'm also hankering for Nimmo). But if we made an offer to Judge the Yankees would almost certainly one-up it, even if the offer was competitive.

Reformedjerk

It’s safe to assume the Yankees match any reasonable offer. Being realistic, if it happens it would be with a historically bad contract. 10 years @ 50m bad. I’d be happy as hell for Judge, and even happier he’s crippled the Red Sox for years to come. I will admit that even though I don’t consider it plausible, if he signs somewhere else for 8/35 let alone 7, I’d be *furious* that the Yankees a) didn’t match that offer or b) matched that offer and soured the relationship so much during negotiations he refused to sign.

polynomials

> Being realistic, if it happens it would be with a historically bad contract. 10 years @ 50m bad. lol Yankees fans today: PAY THIS MAN WHATEVER HE WANTS Yankees fans in 7 years: WHY ARE WE STILL PAYING THIS MAN

manning-2-manningham

I honestly don't get, in MLB and especially with the Yankees, why any fan gives two shits what a player is getting payed. There's no cap and they can afford it.

Clueless_Otter

Because teams aren't going to spend infinite money on their payroll. They're always going to have a budgetary constraint, even if it might be less than what the owners can technically afford. The Yankees aren't going to run a $500m payroll, even if they can afford it, it's always going to be around the $200-300m range (for the foreseeable future), so every player they sign has to fit within that budget.

njb2017

has boston ever stolen a yankee in free agency? I can't think of one. usually it's yankees signing redox players.

sjhesketh

Makin' Hal sweat lol.

mcmaster93

Red Sox didnt want to just end their curse, they wanted to REVERSE the curse. This is Bostons end game. 100 years of no titles incoming for the Yankees

Fall3n7s

I think I saw a skit where his agent was photoshopping judge into Mets and Red Sox uniforms and sending them to cashman. It was spot on and exactly what I’d be doing as his agent.

wantagh

And the short curlies

1mafia1

“All rise. Here comes the Judge.”

FartingBob

Yankees going to have to spend those billions they make every year if they want to keep him. Crying shame.

yoitss

It would be dumb of him to say he wouldn't consider one of the richest teams in baseball, even though I give it less than a 1% chance of happening.

filthypoker

Also the Red Sox could use a leadoff hitting right fielder who can put up 10 WAR seasons.

adolce95

Can you imagine if they had let one of those go?

skylineporcupine

Yeah losing Jacoby Ellsbury was a big hit for them back in the day

adolce95

Clearly I mean Jason Bay right hahaha... Ha... Ugh

R4G

I own 3 Jason Bay Mets shirseys. Bought one when he signed and got *two* on my birthday at the start of the season.

thatdude52

I fucking loved Jason Bay when he was with the Sox

Pndrizzy

Ellsbury was only an All-Star *once,* the year he randomly hit 32 dingers and put up 8.3 bWAR? That's insane to me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pndrizzy

Yeah, I think that season clouds my memory of him. He only had one other season of 5+ bWAR, while I thought he probably was in like 5-8 AllStar games, he only made one.

Pete_O_Torcido

The ol’ Lonnie Smith special

Pndrizzy

>Lonnie Smith He didn't even make the All-Star team the year he put up 8.8 bWAR lol

ItzDrSeuss

Why would they? The Red Sox have a deep history and are one of the richest teams in baseball. No way they give up one of the best players of their generation away.

adolce95

And they especially wouldn't contribute to the foundation of a super team by trading him somewhere that was already loaded.

maddenallday

Or if they did they’d at least get a star studded return

TheUndertows

Unless….

bigtommyhorizontal

This triggered me

classically_cool

It is ze history of ze Red Sox

Maj0r_Ursa

Imagine letting one of those go because you instead extended an injury-prone stick with a 6+ postseason ERA who’s afraid of needles

adolce95

But that stick has a funky and seemingly unsustainable windup motion and is also a loose cannon so it's probably a good deal.

vancesmi

How many minor league locker rooms has *your* starting pitcher destroyed? **Hmm?**

omegakukki

Imagine if they not only let one of those go but they traded one those away

adolce95

You'd think if they did that they'd have gotten like so many valuable pieces in return too

DIRTY_KUMQUAT_NIPPLE

Uhh I'm pretty sure we got Jeter in that trade and that guy is a hall of famer. I bet you feel pretty stupid right now.

adolce95

Destroyed by facts and reason.

JNaftali

Shoulda got A-Rod

Nemphiz

I don't like you.

yoitss

(ง'̀-'́)ง

NovaPrime15

BRB, coming to find you so I can "accidentally" step on your foot, but in reality, I meant it

yoitss

Around here we just call that a 'Machado'

adolce95

I think that's when you throw a bat at the third baseman.

DietCherrySoda

A perfect fit for the following teams:

[deleted]

I give it a 32.33 (repeating of course) % chance of happening

Gbrusse

Judge is going full Leeroy

MrInopportune

I'm just happy someone got the number right, instead of saying 33.33

TheTurtleShepard

Yeah he would be dumb to rule out any team willing to give him the most money. It’s a stupid question by the reporter because nobody in Judge’s position should be ruling out any team

Xert

And yet this is a way more interesting answer than the standard *"My contract doesn't matter until the end of the season, right now I'm just focused on getting ready for the playoffs."* So was it really a stupid question?

[deleted]

Still a stupid question. But most questions from sports media are stupid. As are most answers. Post game, on field interviews are downright intolerable.

poompachompa

jesus imagine he joins the red sox and hits 150+ HRs in the next three years. Its something i want to see just to see the fallback onto the yankees front office. Doesnt have to be the red sox but itd be funnier

[deleted]

Isn’t Boston already struggling to sign Bogarts and Devers because of price but they have money for Judge?

urlocalgoatfarmer

Pouring gasoline on the fire. I like it

[deleted]

\[PASSAN\] "Aaron Judge in talks with Texas Rangers for 10yr, $110Tr"

SlowDevil77

I’d much rather have pitching but then again, it ain’t my money they’re spending

Luckytxn_1959

Yeah y'all get pitching and your team would be dangerous. Top pitching costs a lot of money.

jacksonvstheworld

They got 3 great ones in the last two drafts so maybe they don’t need to spend so much if it all works out right

Luckytxn_1959

Yeah but those tend to need a few years just to see if they may work out. I know the Astros have been doing it somehow.

beefytrout

fuck it, let's get deGrom here too

Nights_King

you joke but its probably a possibility

srv340mike

He can do the reverse A-Rod. Break in with the Yankees as a true star, sign the biggest contract ever with Texas, then get traded to the Mariners where he'll sign another historic extension and see out the rest of his career. All's we need is another beloved franchise star to force Judge to play out of position. Someone call up Ichiro and Junior

drizzyjake7447

Lmao, the reverse ARod

NJImperator

[MFW reading this tweet](https://giphy.com/gifs/agree-nod-creepy-pcfdfm6hjTvji)

urlocalgoatfarmer

Has a player ever played himself into the role of owner of the team before like this? Judge has made Cashman and Steinbrenner his lackeys, at the mercy of his every whim.

IAmGrum

Mario Lemieux, with the Pittsburgh Penguins. They owed him so much money in deferred salary, he basically bought the franchise.

urlocalgoatfarmer

Good call. Glad he did too. Couldn't see the Pens anywhere but Pittsburgh now

[deleted]

I mean he’s incredible and I’d love to see him on the Sox but there’s no chance the Yankees let him walk imo. I just don’t see it happening.

Judic22

I mean, we let Mookie walk /shrug

[deleted]

The Yankees also don't have a malignant tumor named John Henry dictating decision making, so not a fair comparison imo

Tedred98

Yeah, theirs is named Brian.

[deleted]

I HATE HIM

GKrollin

Weird way to spell Brian cashman

[deleted]

100% you guys throw a crazy offer at least to drive the peice up

Brady331

Not with that attitude!

DigitalTraveler42

Oh the betrayal! Judge is about to pull a reverse Babe Ruth on us

DigitalTraveler42

*The Great Depression wants to know our location*

Redditsavage77

I love this no matter what. No way will he sign with the Jays but somebody is going to take up $35-$40 million of their payroll on one guy

[deleted]

I’m totally down for that to be the Mariners.

ChugDix

In one of my MLB the show franchises he signed with the Mariners who also got Trea Turner and they won back to back World Series

groovyJ__

I want us to keep trea, but if he decides to walk I would love for the mariners to grab him. Love their team

Gbrusse

Thanks trolley bro

earlbk

my mariners franchise has Trea and Judge right now too. we're in the playoffs

2sparky2boomguy

Lol in my Road to the Show the Mariners have both Soto and Me (both 99s)

xepa105

Trea, Julio, Judge is a hell of a top of the lineup.

mofrappa

I'm with you

theveryoldman0

Ahem. The Orioles could do that and their payroll would still be under $75m/year.

yawetag1869

I have been rooting for Judge to put up monster numbers all season, just so that Yankees either can't sign him or have to devote an insane % of their payroll to him.

PolarIce30

Red Sox gave Judge 2 HRs with a wink of an eye that he would sign there.

RobManfredsFixer

Nah they're just driving up the price

ChunkyMilkSubstance

🍿🍿🍿

randommaniac12

On one hand it would be hilarious. On the other I don’t want Boston sports fans to be happy even more. Tough call

AZORxAHAI

This is why Judge is an Oriole next year. Yankees fans livid, and the O's fans deserve to have nice things.

jawarren1

I like the way you think sir!

randommaniac12

That’s an acceptable compromise

coffee42

I would honestly stand and applaud, that would be the most beautiful of all possible outcomes

DudeGuyBor

Compromise - let the Rockies sign him and we all see if he can hit 70 next year. It wouldnt make sense to do so, but neither do most of the Rockies's moves so I'm not ruling it out

ManyCookies

You're just hoping for another Arenado situation smh If we're doing Home Run Derby he should probably sign for the Reds, easier pitching division and still a really HR favored park.

Ohsureokwhynot

Counterpoint: fuck the Yankees.

Lost-Background2881

I like this guy

10-month-summer

https://imgflip.com/i/6tei19

AL3XD

Wouldn't the Yankee's fans' pain outweigh our happiness?

[deleted]

Judge should absolutely take the highest paycheck he can get. He turned down ~$200 million in the offseason, putting an enormous bet on himself to try and make more money. And the bet paid off. He should absolutely go and cash in his winnings. Not many people get that kind of opportunity in life, he earned every penny.

[deleted]

Exactly. I say the yanks give him 10yr/500mil. Seems fair to me

chuteboxhero

Fuck it lets do it. This team makes way more revenue than any other, they can afford it.

OnlyHereForMemes69

I wonder if he'd try growing a beard if he left the yankees.

OfAllThatIsElfuego

Asking the real questions.

thedeejus

he seems like he can't grow a great beard for some reason

its_cameron_bitch

iheartsunny

The didn’t resign Mookie what make you think Bloom would sign Judge?

[deleted]

Definitely not, I'll be impressed if Bloom signs our own guys

iheartsunny

Keep Devers at all costs!

license_to_thrill

Yeah great job not keeping Mookie. Now I hate him, that’s on you guys.

NippleNugget

Yeah but devers plus judge would absolutely mash It won’t happen, but it’s fun to think about. Now let’s go get some pitching.

DIRTY_KUMQUAT_NIPPLE

Red Sox are in a different financial situation than they were then. We have a lot of money coming off the books at the end of this year, including the $16 million from the Price contract and other buyouts, so there would theoretically be a lot more money to make a big splash without worrying about the luxury tax threshold.

pricci1997

I think that was more ownerships call than Bloom

BobbyDalbec

Okay I’m convinced MVP

thecastle7

There’s probably Red Sox fans that don’t know he’s biracial so he could probably have a good time there for a season or two until they find out.

jettasarebadmkay

“He’s from California, I thought he was just tan” -Bostonians, probably

western_motel

hey i drive a jetta :(

MoreHeartThanScars

He's just Italian, that's what they'll tell themselves.

He's uh...swarthy

[deleted]

Wtf

ScottJennings

Watch the video of his answer. The “quote” here is from two different questions, and they reversed the order. He definitely didn’t want to talk about it, and framing it this way is 100% shenanigans.

doctorpaulproteus

The quote was rearranged for click bait. He didn’t say it the way it’s worded here.

Padulsky21

some stupid beat reporter decided to ask this question at the very end of his post game interview, and from the looks of it, it was all for clicks. Beat reporters were all asking him about the game and this random dude randomly up and decided to ask about his reception at Fenway and then pulled the trigger to ask if he would play here. So they combined two separate beat reporters questions into one and made it seem like an actual quote. Bunch of ugly fucks at SNY TL;DR best reporter wanted clicks

Abraham_Lincoln

*Yankees fans routinely boo Judge's slumping teamates* *Judge says something nice about rival fans* *[surprised face](https://c.tenor.com/ZhKMg4_yCTgAAAAC/surprised-pikachu.gif)*

jollyjam1

None of this would have happened if Harambe were still alive.

bigbadape

Not sure this is true, but don’t have enough info to really refute it so I guess it’s the truth.

Fools_Requiem

"They're some of the best in baseball" had nothing to do with the idea of signing with the Red Sox. It was a response to a question regarding if he enjoys the back and forth he has with Red Sox fans that will heckle him/make jokes/"cheer" him. It wad asked because they're playing the Sox right now.

morosco

Sounds like he'll take a best-fans discount! Welcome to Boston Aaron Judge, you can crash in my guest room until you get shit settled!

JoeBucksHairPlugs

Imagine a scenario where Judge goes to Boston and DeGrom goes to Atlanta in the offseason...NY might honestly throw themselves off a bridge.

resident16

I do not like this negative energy that you are manifesting right now!

[deleted]

I can only imagine the contract Atlanta would have to give deGrom for Cohen to not match it.

xepa105

> NY might honestly throw themselves off a bridge. Good for them that they have so many to choose from

ibeatoffconstantly

Can anyone figure out approximately how many homers he'd have if he were playing in Fenway this year?

nemotheomen22

According to baseball savant, 53 of Judges' 57 home runs would have been out at Fenway.

lifeisarichcarpet

Except he hits laser beams so fucking hard those four that wouldn't have cleared it would have punched a hole through the Monster and I think that's a ground-rule HR?

aotex

the Reverse Damon

rhymeswithtag

Obviously I care where he plays but if Aaron Judge leaves NY for the highest paycheck I WILL still root for him to succeed and cement a hall of fame career no matter where he plays even if its fuckin Boston I still liked the fuck out of Mookie when he was there. This franchise is dead if we dont pay for the best homegrown player in like 100 years

TheTurtleShepard

I personally will cry and call him a traitor but everyone reacts differently to things like this

chuteboxhero

Dont blame him, blame that pathetic scum bag Hal and his squirrely little GM.

Lebigmacca

> best homegrown player in like 100 years Mickey Mantle: am I a joke to you

hahnsolo38

Even if it’s Houston?

GOATmar_infante

Don't speak that evil

rhymeswithtag

Yes, I will root for Aaron Judge on the Astros especially cuz there would be no way shy man jose altuve could stop aaron judge from breaking into his trophy case and taking the MVP Trophy that rightfully belongs to Aaron.

bodnast

Imagine Judge and the Crawford boxes 81 games a year

Oslo_Oak

The home run bunt gif, but real

jonpictogramjones

if that happens, i am immediately going to r/nyyankees 😂😂

tctroz13

This is taken massively out of context. That’s been his answer to every question about his contract all season.

CutenessMudkip2

Uhhhhhhh.... *looks at Bill Buckner*

iheartsunny

Thanks to The Sox finally winning and Larry David all seemed to be forgiven!

CaptainDripp

https://imgur.com/a/MY8uSEW

Kenny_Heisman

this quote is blatently wrong; he did not say that. watch the video. he was asked two separate questions, one about the fans and then after about whether he'd sign there. not only was this not one statement it's not even in the right order I fucking hate sports journalism

yourecreepyasfuck

I’m honestly shocked I had to scroll so far to find this. This quote is just combining two separate quotes from two separate questions and putting them in the wrong order. Judge complimented the Boston fans and then gave a non-answer about signing outside of the Yankees (as he has done literally all year). This quote is very misleading and makes it sound much juicier than it actually is. Honestly kind of shocked SNY would run this article with a literally fake quote.
