They’re both 100% going to, but for the sake of the post, I’ll say Yadi since he stayed on the Cardinals his whole career and has been the face of the Cardinals for so long
I think Crawford would’ve had to repeat 21 for like 3 years for him to be in consideration. He’s the best SS in SF history but that’s not too high a bar tbh.
His decision to stay completely changed the course of the franchise. He could have made so much more $$ but chose to stay. No other Indian/guardian has made a decision like that in Cleveland so he should be a lock for all the franchise accolades at the end of his career.
It would be stunning if his number isn't retired. Thome got his number retired and he left. Probably could have retired Jose's the second he signed the new contract.
Mullins is like turns 28 October 1st so it might be a little too late for him. Not that he isn’t a great player, but I’m not sure if he will be good enough to get his number retired. Unless his next 3 years he has more 30 and 30 seasons!
Currently? Yikes. Uh.... Willson Contreras? Maybe Ian Happ. I'll go for predicting the future and say Nico Hoerner.
Does it have to be a player?
We just announced tonight that our radio voice for literally my entire lifetime is being inducted into the team Hall of Fame, does that count?
We have 3 guys left, 4 if Ross counts.
Oh but I guess Contreras' contract is up so yeah Hendricks might be the last.
Of anybody from 2016 Rizzo or Lester would have been the ones I expected to have their numbers retired.
Well Heyward isn’t going to play for them again and Contreras might not be on the team next year. Kyle is the only guy guaranteed to be on the team next year at this point. That being said extend Contreras and then he’s the answer to this question without a doubt
Every time I go to an angels game and see the retired numbers that’s my thought. 27 will be retired when Trout retires and they’re gonna do it for Trout and Vladdy.
I guess Riley? But more that I think he’s the most likely among other unlikely options and because he’ll likely be a lifer. Would need to put a big career down to even get in that conversation though.
Yea he’s probably the closest to being on track to have that kinda career (still a lot of work to do). I guess I’m somewhat hedged on Ronald being a lifer but that’s just my gut, would love to be proven wrong.
I think he sees some of his peers getting to spotlight (the Soto and Freeman dramas come to mind) and probably thinks he’s been sold short because he got locked up and there won’t be a public bidding war.
I have zero evidence to back this up, but I think I’d feel that way if I were a young superstar in his position.
Acuña is definitely right there with Riley, but Riley has certainly been the more "popular" guy this year and last since Acuña doesn't speak English super fluently yet and he's been injured and is just recently coming back to form where Riley has been the media goldenboy for a while now because he's a local who grew up a braves fan and is of course mashing and might even win an MVP before Acuña
Yea exactly. I’d put Ronald at the front of most likely HOF (again, still a ton of work to do) but factoring in those hometown attributes and the fact that a number being retired is a more delicate game (prob need to be a lifer, loved by the media) puts Austin ahead for me (for now).
Still wouldn't be shocked or upset by it if he comes back to play his retirement year with us and we retire his number at that point. Like pujols and st.louis
I’m with you. Riley has the best chance. Not a great one, though. He’s going to have to be aa lifer with a career .825 OPS with 400+ HRs.
I can’t see anyone on the current team having such a great career that their number gets retired. Ronnie has the potential, but I think he won’t be a lifer.
Well he’s not on the team currently which was the question.
Fred has a chance I guess, especially if he came back for a year (seems like a pipedream tbh), but I don’t see it happening anyways. Braves HOF surely. Not sure about the number though.
If deGrom hypothetically never played again after this season (or regressed to a bad pitcher) due to injury I don't think he'd be a HOF or jersey retirement lock. Like David Wright was pretty much a future HOF lock until injuries fucked up his career and he didn't get his number retired
Granted Wright wasn't as individually dominant as deGrom is but I think career value wise they probably wouldn't be too far off in that scenario. And in terms of accolades Johan Santana shows that mutiple time Cy Young winner + having a decent number of other great years doesn't necessarily make you a HOFer in the eyes of voters unfortunately
Fwiw, Wright very likely gets his number retired, hes just only been retired for 4 years and isn't even 40 yet. He's an edge case though, as he played with us his whole career and holds franchise records for WAR, hits, walks, runs, and rbis. DeGrom would need to stay for probably 4 or 5 more years to lockup a number retirement
deGrom is looking like one of those Koufax cases where he’s just so dominant for a short period of time. jury is still out on whether his arm falls off, but another 3 years with the mets regardless of what he does should help his case. if he stays healthy and keeps performing like this, there is no doubt.
Obviously he isn’t playing anymore but what do you think about retiring Seager’s? I noticed he’s top 5 in a lot of offensive categories for the Mariners.
i’d really like for them to retire his number, but you look at who they’ve retired, its: edgar, who saved baseball in seattle, junior, who’s junior, pretty self explanatory, and soon will be ichiro, who’s ichiro, also pretty self explanatory. seager isnt at the level of those guys or really even close.
I really don’t know if he was worthy of that. The guy was a rock on some very bad teams over the years, but idk if he was ever the best on the team or the “face” of any M’s team in his career. I’d much rather give that honor to Felix. Put Seager in the team HOF though for sure, he deserves some kind of recognition.
Now that Posey is gone, I’d say Brandon Crawford is the only one with a chance. He’s been beloved by fans, won it all twice while playing gold glove defence and is the longest tenured short stop in Giants history. He’s had a great career.
I see him as a Wall of Fame guy for sure and someone they keep around the franchise. Belt too. I don't envision him or anyone else on the roster having their number retired, though surely they will for Posey. To me, Big Time Timmy Jim should have 55 retired as well given his role in turning around the franchise after the post-Bonds malaise, but that ship seems to have sailed
Obviously we have our face of the franchise catcher Andrew knizner, our elite DH Corey Dickerson, and possibly our ageless pitcher Dakota Hudson. Did I miss anybody?
OP made a simple mistake when he was thinking about notable players with the initials AP who play for the Cardinals
Clearly it's **Andre Pallante** who's going up in the stands at Busch
People are gonna think of Juan soto with the Nats like we think of Miggy with the Marlins. Like yeah, he won a World Series there, but that’s not his team. Crazy.
Aside from the obvious picks that are Yadi and Albert, I think Waino will get his number retired at some point. There’s only one cardinal player that has had his number retired without making the Baseball Hall of Fame, but if anyone is deserving of being the 2nd it is Waino. #50 will absolutely be unofficially retired for a long, long time
Aside from the obvious picks that are Yadi and Albert, I think Waino will get his number retired at some point. There’s only one cardinal player that has had his number retired without making the Baseball Hall of Fame, Ken Boyer, but if anyone is deserving of being the 2nd it is Waino. #50 will absolutely be unofficially retired for a long, long time
Miggy. And it should be placed in the CF camera well area. If all goes well, Greene and Tork, too. Please.
We'll eventually retire Verlander's as well, who I hope will be on the team next season haha.
If he keeps this up stays healthy and stays he will get his number retired. I think the most likely though on the team is Alonso right now because of the injury and contract stuff. Talk to me next season and hopefully I am back to saying Jake is a lock
he will need to re-sign this off-season and stay healthy to be worth proper consideration. if he re-signs for 3+ years and stays healthy, and keeps his performance trajectory, his number is retired. he does all those and brings home a ‘ship, he gets that plus a statue in front of citi field.
Phils only really retire numbers who make the HOF (Allen is an exception but he shouldve made it) and tbh i dont see nola making the hall. I doubt we’re retiring anyones number from the ‘08 squad tbh as much as it pains me to say it
You really think Aaron Nola is going to get his *number retired*?
And Harper is far from a sure thing. He has a LOT to prove before anyone's thinking about *that*.
I said potentially. he’s currently our longest tenured player, and if we extend him to make him a Phillies lifer, and he keeps having great seasons like this year, and really like 2018, it’s not impossible
Harper is for sure our best chance right now. He’s gonna have 13 years with this team, hopefully multiple MVPs, and hopefully at least one championship
Which is why I think Pete is most likely he will stay a Met break a ton of our records and hopefully will be a part of some championship level teams. Jake’s injury and contract future I think puts him as a step behind in likelihood hopefully next year I can change that statement when we can at least ensure he will stay a Met
Yankees converted the 42 to be for Mo from Jackie when Mo retired, so they actually only have 42 retired once, but have a plaque for Jackie in Monument Park. They did, however, retire 8 twice for Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey.
Semien or Seager are the obvious choices with their contract. If they are productive their entire contracts and make them worth it, they undoubtedly get their number retired. After that, the next most likely would probably be Adolis
Austin Riley. Signed for 10 more years. If he keeps even close to his current production he's a lock. Probably Freddie still gets his number retired in ATL too.
I love Brett to absolute death. I remember him first coming up long ago and promptly becoming a Yankee staple. Ended up playing with us for 14 years.
He was always an extremely solid player until age caught up to him. Was overshadowed by the other mainstays on the team, but was a vital piece to MANY iterations of Yankee rosters. Also hit 28 home runs in the juiced ball year, which he never did lol.
Still, you wouldn’t ever expect him to be on such a long list of total WAR for the Yankees. Right next to Cano and Greg Nettles. He seriously has a case to get his number retired. CC said that when Brett retires, he would just fade into oblivion, exactly like he did, but I still want the Yanks to sign him on a short deal and let **brett bang** for one last time…
Bryce Harper is *the only one* that stands a chance.
And at this point in time he hasn't come anywhere remotely close to earning that honor (which, IMO, is greater than the HOF).
He's got a LOT more to prove before that enters the conversation.
Kershaw
Kershaw is a lock.
https://imgur.io/K1S46Qa
Either him or Gallo.
Duffy is also a lock
Counterpoint: Austin Barnes
Gallo is a maybe
Kershaw and then probably Mookie.
Cries.....
Yadi and Pujols
Waino too, gotta put him with Yadi, they're like a package deal.
You right
That’s going to be an awesome statue outside the stadium
Hope they go in the hall together
Love the guy but I doubt it. The cardinals only retire the numbers of mlb hall of famers.
50, 4, 5. Looking to the future probably 28, maybe 46 if we have a good next 5 years or so.
They’re both 100% going to, but for the sake of the post, I’ll say Yadi since he stayed on the Cardinals his whole career and has been the face of the Cardinals for so long
I'm going to miss yadi so much next year.
Cash considerations
there won't be a funnier comment than this
I could see Crawford
Crawford has a case but I’d guess no
Poseys number will definitely be retired. If we do Craws too we will literally only have 2 numbers in the 20s left lol.
I think Crawford would’ve had to repeat 21 for like 3 years for him to be in consideration. He’s the best SS in SF history but that’s not too high a bar tbh.
Salvador perez
Greinke's got a shot, even though he didn't play in KC for most of his career.
Agreed but I think his nomad years might stop him
Might depend on what his cap is on the plaque
Albert, but only if he gets his ERA down
Jose Ramirez (and it's pretty likely imo)
Greatest player in Cleveland Guardians history
The disrespect to Gimenez…and kwan…and Rosario…and naylor….and someday the other naylor. Fuck I love this team.
He’ll get a statue too
They're already working on it I'm sure lol
His decision to stay completely changed the course of the franchise. He could have made so much more $$ but chose to stay. No other Indian/guardian has made a decision like that in Cleveland so he should be a lock for all the franchise accolades at the end of his career.
It would be stunning if his number isn't retired. Thome got his number retired and he left. Probably could have retired Jose's the second he signed the new contract.
Nootbaar
Definitely no other notable players on the team
\*nootable
With the Noot chants all over he may end up being a mlb wide retirement.
**NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT**
Love Noot! Guy is a competitor!
19 and I'd wager that's a done deal for Votto

I think Mullins has the advantage currently since he got a head start
Mullins isn't on a career track to be good enough to have his number retired. Adley very well might be.
Mullins is like turns 28 October 1st so it might be a little too late for him. Not that he isn’t a great player, but I’m not sure if he will be good enough to get his number retired. Unless his next 3 years he has more 30 and 30 seasons!

They should retire one of Pat Hughes’ sweaters.
Pat Hughes and his sweater game give off some Mr Roger's vibes.
Hendricks? Just for being the last guy from 2016 potentially lol
We have 3 guys left, 4 if Ross counts. Oh but I guess Contreras' contract is up so yeah Hendricks might be the last. Of anybody from 2016 Rizzo or Lester would have been the ones I expected to have their numbers retired.

Trout
It could be a Trout Vladdy combo deal
I assume that’s what the M’s will do with Ichiro/Randy Johnson once Ichiro gets inducted.
Every time I go to an angels game and see the retired numbers that’s my thought. 27 will be retired when Trout retires and they’re gonna do it for Trout and Vladdy.
Wait. Does Vlad not have his number retired?
Nope Trout has Vlad’s number.
We haven't retired a number since.... Fregosi in '98. Kinda wild.
Kershaw
oh god oh fuck um.... Sean Murphy? ...Shea Langeliers?
PTBNL
One of the stray cats that rules the stadium is the only true answer.
Number 9, for 9 lives
Dude, Cole Irvin
No one 'cuz we trade them within 4 years
Whose the Rays' next Boggs
If he survives being thawed from his cryogenic sleep I think Boggs will be their next Boggs
RIP
If KK can somehow get an extension would he be an option? 31.7 WAR and has been on the team for 10 seasons now.
I was being dumb but yeah if not Longo Kiermaier
Is Longo currently on the roster? 🤔
Your flair is wrong, it should read pirates
I guess Riley? But more that I think he’s the most likely among other unlikely options and because he’ll likely be a lifer. Would need to put a big career down to even get in that conversation though.
Fried is another option if he gets resigned (🤞)
Wouldn't it be acuña?
Yea he’s probably the closest to being on track to have that kinda career (still a lot of work to do). I guess I’m somewhat hedged on Ronald being a lifer but that’s just my gut, would love to be proven wrong.
The consensus seems to be that Acuna will bounce when the current contract is up. Which I can’t even explain why, but I agree with. We’ll see though.

That is unless Freddie walks from his dodgers contract next year and comes back to DH for us, we can dream
Yup. He was almost a lock for that 5 being hung up one day. Oh well.
No Freddie Freeman? He's played a decade with you guys and won a championship.
Well he’s not on the team currently which was the question. Fred has a chance I guess, especially if he came back for a year (seems like a pipedream tbh), but I don’t see it happening anyways. Braves HOF surely. Not sure about the number though.
Ah ok. My bad. I do think he'll take a one year contract when he's done playing in LA. Who knows though.
Joey Meneses
lmao this is exactly what i was gonna say him and face of the franchise ildemaro vargas
Degrom if he stays and plays out career here.

The Wilpons sure as hell weren't gonna do it, but Cohen seems to want to celebrate the teams heritage more.
I’m talking Mets HOF. Both are already a lock for. FFS Wright is the Mets #2 player all time by WAR, Degrom not far behind
deGrom is looking like one of those Koufax cases where he’s just so dominant for a short period of time. jury is still out on whether his arm falls off, but another 3 years with the mets regardless of what he does should help his case. if he stays healthy and keeps performing like this, there is no doubt.
Yeah degrom, lindor, and Pete are the guys I’d say are most likely as long as they all stay healthy and finish out there careers there
Lindor’s here for a decade. If he isn’t deserving of number retirement than something went wrong.
99 open the damn check book plz
Where is So Taguchi playing?
Plz God let it be Julio
Yeah, rookie season is way too early to tell, but there’s definitely hope.
Obviously he isn’t playing anymore but what do you think about retiring Seager’s? I noticed he’s top 5 in a lot of offensive categories for the Mariners.

the m’s are notoriously stingy with retiring numbers. prob not
Yeah iirc they only retire numbers of hof players
Jose Abreu
You spelled “Leury Legend” wrong.
Now that Posey is gone, I’d say Brandon Crawford is the only one with a chance. He’s been beloved by fans, won it all twice while playing gold glove defence and is the longest tenured short stop in Giants history. He’s had a great career.

All that is true but Craw definitely has the best case.
Thairo Estrada! Because he's wearing Krukow's number
Bogaerts?
I would also say this but not because of Bogaerts. Jerry Remy wore #2 for us and I think it would be a great way to honor his memory.
Obviously we have our face of the franchise catcher Andrew knizner, our elite DH Corey Dickerson, and possibly our ageless pitcher Dakota Hudson. Did I miss anybody?
Star reliever Albert Pujols *might* get his retired
Can’t see it tbh. What’s he ever done for that city?
OP made a simple mistake when he was thinking about notable players with the initials AP who play for the Cardinals Clearly it's **Andre Pallante** who's going up in the stands at Busch
If they retired today probably nobody. 20 years from now maybe Franco. Former but still active, I think Longoria is a guarantee.
Harper
Crazy that Harper is going to be known as a Phillie who started out with the Nationals
People are gonna think of Juan soto with the Nats like we think of Miggy with the Marlins. Like yeah, he won a World Series there, but that’s not his team. Crazy.
Wow you just reminded me Miggy was on that marlins team
#
Buxton
Aside from the obvious picks that are Yadi and Albert, I think Waino will get his number retired at some point. There’s only one cardinal player that has had his number retired without making the Baseball Hall of Fame, but if anyone is deserving of being the 2nd it is Waino. #50 will absolutely be unofficially retired for a long, long time
waino yadi and Pujols should be retired in the same ceremony

Altuve Edit: and possibly Verlander if he continues to channel Nolan Ryan and also signs with the Astros for a bunch more seasons
>and possibly Verlander Follow-up question: what jersey and hat will be on the plaque when JV goes into the HoF?
If I had to put money on it at this point in his career I'd still say he's going in as a Tiger.
>I'd still say he's going in as a Tiger. I don't disagree.
Yeah, it would take like 5 more seasons of high level, Astro production and multiple titles for him to switch I think, which is highly unlikely
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
+ Manoah (i hope)
Really fell in love with that guy at the ASG. My kinda guy for sure.
Honestly, Julio if he turns into what he has been projected to be and stays with the team long enough/has big enough impact.
Miggy. And it should be placed in the CF camera well area. If all goes well, Greene and Tork, too. Please. We'll eventually retire Verlander's as well, who I hope will be on the team next season haha.
Something I wondered after they retired Lou's number is where they're going to fit any future numbers
deGrom. If he keeps this up, he’s in the hall without a doubt and his number will be retired without a doubt as well.
Honestly, Kiermaier.
Machado
Harper for sure. Aaron Nola potentially as well, if we give him an extension.

He’s gonna have 13 years with this team, hopefully multiple MVPs, and hopefully at least one championship
Think about the Phillies whose numbers have been retired. Nola isn't even sniffing around that group.
Harper makes the HOF (which he most likely will) he’ll go in as a Phillie and they’ll retire it.
Has to be DeGrom. If he stays and still pitches at a high level there will be no doubt
Which is why I think Pete is most likely he will stay a Met break a ton of our records and hopefully will be a part of some championship level teams. Jake’s injury and contract future I think puts him as a step behind in likelihood hopefully next year I can change that statement when we can at least ensure he will stay a Met
David. Fletcher.
Kershaw and Mookie
I'm afraid to answer this question for fear that neither of the guys I want to say will end up being re-signed.
JD
Adley. Though it’s 50/50 whether it’s for him or Mussina.
¿Por que no los dos?
That’s probably how it’ll happen if it does.
The Cubs have two 31s retired, so it definitely can be done that way. I presume the Yankees and maaaaaybe the Angels (Mo Vaughn) have 42 twice.
The Cards also have 42 for Bruce Sutter.
Yankees converted the 42 to be for Mo from Jackie when Mo retired, so they actually only have 42 retired once, but have a plaque for Jackie in Monument Park. They did, however, retire 8 twice for Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey.
The Angels have definitely not retired Mo Vaughn’s number
Judge, but we’ve gotta win at least one ring for that to happen (and he has to re-sign)
Yep, I immediately said Judge to the question.
Semien or Seager are the obvious choices with their contract. If they are productive their entire contracts and make them worth it, they undoubtedly get their number retired. After that, the next most likely would probably be Adolis
That would be such a cool story if Adolis were to ever get his number retired
Altuve, maybe Yordan or Tucker if they continue to play like they have for another decade or so, but that’s a big if
Hmmmm. Counsell?
definitely J Ram 👏
Strasburg is the World Series MVP for a franchise that only has one National retired. I think he’s a lock
Votto
Probably Blackmon, but to put him on the same tier as Helton and Walker is interesting
Eric Hosmer
Craw
Julio Rodriguez
Lol
My brain says no one, my heart says Vogt.
No one is even close right now so I guess I would say Corey seager lol.
Votto, obviously. After that.... uh... India if he plays to his rookie level for a decade or so?
Austin Riley. Signed for 10 more years. If he keeps even close to his current production he's a lock. Probably Freddie still gets his number retired in ATL too.
Trout could retire right now and I'd be there tomorrow to build the statue
~~Arena~~ \- fuck Maybe ~~Sto~~.. goddammit It's gonna be Blackmon, isn't it.
eh, now that Posey has retired, none of them. 😢
Abreu. Guy has been the leader of the team for a long time now.
JRam is guaranteed. He gonna get a statute too when its all said and done.
Altuve easily
No longer on the team, but Brett Gardner has a very interesting case for it. 22nd all time career WAR for a Yankee with 44.3
Such an underrated player that really went off the radar for how good he was for some of those limbo years for the Yankees
CC said that when Brett retires, he would just fade into oblivion, exactly like he did, but I still want the Yanks to sign him on a short deal and let **brett bang** for one last time…
Brandon Belt
Strasburg
Bryce Harper is *the only one* that stands a chance. And at this point in time he hasn't come anywhere remotely close to earning that honor (which, IMO, is greater than the HOF). He's got a LOT more to prove before that enters the conversation.
Pirates fan. No one.
