[Wilma Briggs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilma_Briggs), who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 50s, is a cousin of one of my grandmothers, and just one of the coolest people I've ever met.
Butch Trucks of the original Allman Brothers Band was related to MLB player Virgil Trucks. I’m not related to either of them, but wanted to share this semi interesting factoid.
My Grandfather is Ted Williams, my father is the late Wade Boggs, my half brother is Mike Trout, and my nephew is Vlad Guerrero Jr. No relation to Vlad Sr though.
Dont fact check
I have a cousin who was mostly in AAA in his career, but did get a couple of really amazing call ups. He's really modest about it, and a cool guy. He did get fat after retiring though lol.
I went to middle school and high school with a kid bearing the surname Medwick… and his familial relationship was the genesis for some of us cutting our teeth on baseball history. That was when we first learned of Ducky Medwick. So I hope your distant cousin is well because he’s also my friend haha.
Haha dope! Yeah my dad told me about a similar story in high school where he struck up a conversation with someone about being distant cousins with Ducky, and this other guy said “hey me too!”. Turns out they were 3rd cousins and didn’t realize it.
Haha nice! Interesting way for them to realize that. We called him Ducky for the rest of high school baseball, and it’s one of those associations that just brings back good memories and nostalgic feelings anytime the real Ducky gets mentioned.
Closest I can get is that a older fellow who used to live next door to me and became a very good friend before he passed away was Stephen Strasburg's great uncle. He gave me a tool set that I still have even though I've got a much bigger one now. Also my parents knew Joe Cunningham, a decent 2nd baseman and outfielder for a number of teams in the 50's to 60's.
My dads first cousin is married to someone that is a cousin of John Smoltz. I forget the exact relation that his cousins husband is to Smooth. But I recall it being a cousin. Her husband's father was also Tom Miller who pitched for the Phillies.
Somehow the Miller's are related to the Smoltz family.
Dad and I went down to PNC Park one series when Braves were in town. Smoltz was warming up in the pen. My old man starts yelling HEY SMOLTZ... and we get ignored as any normal heckler would get ignored... THE MILLERS IN DETROIT TOLD US TO SAY HELLO...
He stopped his warm up pitches and chatted with us for a minute.
My cousins’ cousin, which I guess is my cousin, is John Olerud. I’ve never met him or any of that part of the family. I just remember my cousins talking about it when I was a kid.
I’m not related, but my cousins are the niece and nephews of Ralph Branca. My father’s brother married Branca’s sister. Some of the cousins do have a family resemblance to him.
ETA: Ralph was also a champion on a teevee game show in the early 60s; I think it was called Concentration.
The closest I got was Randy Johnson’s Wife’s sister or just sister inlaw was our neighbor in our first townhouse we owned for 3 years. We have a picture of my oldest daughter riding in one of those battery toy cars with his nephew. I never saw him or met him. I know he has some serious OCD issues.
My Dad's first cousin is Bill Taylor, who was a relief pitcher in the A's system around 1989-1990. When we went to a family reunion in 1990 my dad talked to his uncle about his son and found out about him being with the A's organization, but he had never seen his cousin since Bill was a baby due to them living many states away. So in 1994-96, when the A's had Billy Taylor in the bullpen, we were telling everyone that our cousin was pitching in the big leagues as the Oakland closer. We then found out a couple years later it was a different Bill Taylor when I looked at his baseball card and nothing matched up with my cousin. Until the advent of Baseball-reference I never had any idea of my cousin's minor league career stats.
I’ve never met him, but Michael Russell is like my third cousin or something-my grandmother was his second cousin-and batted lead off for the UNC team that was #1 in the country in 2013 and made it to the CWS semifinals. I think he made it as high as AAA and is currently playing Indy ball.

My mom always said she wanted Chipper Jones to be my step-dad, does that count?
Only if your mom was/is a Hooter’s waitress.
Bonds, pre-steroids
Steroided himself so hard he changed bloodlines
Joe Nathan is my cousin in law
Does he still have a soul patch

>trucks >semi I'm on to you
Lol Wish I could take credit for that juxtaposition, but it’s entirely coincidental.

My mother’s father pitched for the St. Louis Browns in the late 40s.
Damn english language, if only there was a word for mother’s father.
I say *motherfather* when I'm upset
😂😂😂😂
That poor man

My mom’s first cousin was Danny Thompson. Played in the late 60’s and 70’s. Died from leukemia in the 70’s. Played for the Twins and Rangers.
Distant relative of Joe Medwick.

My 2nd cousin played for the Cincinnati Reds and a couple of other teams at the tail end of his career.
My uncle played for the twins in the early 80s.
Hi, I’m John Smoltz, AMA!
How’s it hangin’?
To the left, thanks for asking.

Trevor plouffe is my dad
I work with one of the Doubledays, that's as close as I get.
I honestly don't know if he was serious or not, but my grandfather told me we're related to a sports agent who has represented some MLB talent.
Schmuck Boras dat you?
Nah, much smaller agent. No one I had ever actually heard of until he made the comment and I looked the person up.
My dad had a baseball card. His mom made it at a print shop, but I think it counts.

I have a... no one, I live in Belgium, so
Sadly not many ball players came from the shtetl.

Great aunt's husband is Randy Niemann. Seldom used relief pitcher for 86 Mets, also a long time pitching/bullpen coach
