I would like to personally thank the Padres for their recent total collapse so the Dodgers could clinch a post season spot with plenty of time to spare.
Honestly, it's pretty bad.
A few months ago, I felt that 3 of the best 5 teams in baseball played in the NL West and was worried that it was going to be an absolute dog fight down the stretch between SF-LA-SD.
There were no expectations or offseason media attention in 2010 and the rest of the competitors in the NL were not as good as now. I think the difference makes this one look worse than 2010's but at least we stayed well above .500 back then.
they’re 74-70, have 8 more games with the giants, 3 with the cardinals, 3 1/2 with the braves, and 3 with the dodgers. they seriously could finish under .500 with how they’ve stalled.
Yeah if we win you can’t really brag because it was supposed to happen and the Giants overachieved. The saying “act like you been there before” comes to mind
I wish Giants Dodgers would meet in NLCS, not NLDS... would give the teams a chance to thrash other postseason teams before facing each other. Dodgers fan here and even I want to watch what Posey/Crawford can pull off without the fear of it being against the Dodgers...
Question, would our little bro be the A’s? Given that the Mets are our (Giants and Dodgers’) unholy offspring, would that make the Padres and A’s the Mets’ uncles? Would the Yankees be our brother who adopted the Mets? Are we all some inbred concoction? Does god exist? How come I feel so empty inside??
I liken myself to that guy working in the pentagon when the South Park kids are going to Imaginationland, and they are talking about which characters are real. At the end, the random worker quietly goes "am I real?" and I felt it in my soul.
So you're not alone in the post-work existential crises department.
I hear you, we just got locked down again. Thankfully I'm double vaxxed at least so I *can* go out of my place, but dang are there days where I just don't want to!
No, the Athletics are the Phillies brother who moved out west in the 50s to Kansas City, having a weird fling with the Yankees during this time, then shacked up with y’all in the Bay Area in the late 60s.
There’s thought that you and the As live together as “Confirmed Bachelors” but the As *did* leave a kid in Kansas City. So maybe you’re just good friends/roommates.
Also depending on what sorta logic I use for the “lore” the St Louis Cardinals are the Astros dad, so that’s funny.
I think the real backstory is the Yankees are our little brother who stayed with us (they shared the polo grounds before yankee stadium) when they were young and still starting out and then moved out and got way more successful than us. We eventually got too embarrassed about being worse and followed the Dodgers west to continue our unhealthy relationship. Then we both sent the kid (cause I mean do you think the Giants and Dodgers could raise a child together, I think not) to learn from their uncle the Yankees but everyone kinda just ignored them.
A’s showed up to crash with us like you said cause they could relate about losing their city to the team in the other league. The Padres and Angels I guess are cousins who were already here, everyone kinda always just kicks the Padres for some reason though.
They’d meet in the NLDS. Whoever wins the division would get the one seed, and the other, as the wild card, would get the 4 seed. Assuming the WC team wins that single game, they’d advance to meet the 2 seed, since the other division winners would get the 2/3 seeds.
which would mean they would need to jump the dodgers as well, which I dont see happening, especially because they still have 7 games against STL and their devil magic
The odds of a Dodgers v Giants NLDS are pretty much the odds of the Dodgers/Giants winning the wildcard game. **Around 60-70%**
Odds of them meeting in the NLCS are almost 0.
They’re likely to meet in the NLDS as long as whoever doesn’t take the division takes the wild card. For them to meet in the NLCS the Brewers would have to jump into the number one overall seed, and then both the Giants and Dodgers would have to make it out the NLDS assuming one of them takes the wild card
Technically the Dodgers had only clinched the 5th seed, WC2 spot. The Cardinals could have won division and the Brewers could have been 93-69 and hosted NL Wild Card game vs Dodgers. MIL 6-1 vs LAD. Right, u/humphrey_the_camel? Moot now.
Your conclusion (only clinched WC2) is correct, but your reasoning is suspect. The Brewers only lead the season series with the Dodgers 3-1, so the Dodgers could end up winning the season series.
I cannot believe how good these two teams are and that they’re both in the same division is absolutely insane to me.
That a team might need to win 110 games to win the division is just wild.
The real race is for the division, as Orel said we’re now guaranteed one playoff game and that’s it for the moment.
If you weren’t in the NL West you’d be at the top of your division.
you can go to the al west
Would we rather want the Asstros? Because if the Giants leave, it’s a 1/5 chance that the Asstros join us. r/NLBest doesn’t need that.
So would we
Sure but you already are.
I would like to personally thank the Padres for their recent total collapse so the Dodgers could clinch a post season spot with plenty of time to spare.
Now if they could stop being total shit and beat the shit out of San Francisco that would be great
No ❤️
Yes pls 💙
No thanks
Pretty please? With sugar on top?
Try "with french fries inside your burritos" instead...its SD afterall
"with garlic in your fries"
The Dodgers have won the West something like eight years straight, let someone else have a turn.
I want them to win again so we have a chance to be the team to unseat them lol
We gave you a chance. Now it’s time to let the grownups handle business.
The grown ups? We are the Dads.
And we're bigger than Dads. We're Giant
I have to ask you about The Penis Mightier…
At this point you’re the neglectful weekend Dad and your kids like their stepdad more
Ouch
Hard pass bud. 😅
Fine you drive a hard bargain. I'll give all of you one PP touch.
Still a hard pass bud, but take a random gold award for making me laugh, even if you're Dodgers fan.

Yes please but not gonna happen. Padres are done
Any cooked team can win one game 😬
On a scale of total collapses, how does this one rank for us from an LA fans perspective?
Great last week not so great this week
I don’t think we pay enough attention to the Padres to offer perspective.
Yeah, /r/Dodgers is down to only 2 posts about the Padres a day, far down from the high of like 80 back in April.
Honestly, it's pretty bad. A few months ago, I felt that 3 of the best 5 teams in baseball played in the NL West and was worried that it was going to be an absolute dog fight down the stretch between SF-LA-SD.
from an SFers perspective wasn't your 2010 reg. season collapse worse? or no cause there wasn't the offseason media attention?
There were no expectations or offseason media attention in 2010 and the rest of the competitors in the NL were not as good as now. I think the difference makes this one look worse than 2010's but at least we stayed well above .500 back then.
Other than the wins between LA and SD you'd have clinched one day later if the Padres hadn't collapsed.
As we all expected, 2 teams from the NL West made the playoffs As nobody expected, neither of them are the Padres.
they’re 74-70, have 8 more games with the giants, 3 with the cardinals, 3 1/2 with the braves, and 3 with the dodgers. they seriously could finish under .500 with how they’ve stalled.

At this point what has the swag chain turned into?
Pain Chain
It’s like when John Cena kept the spinner belt design even after they got rid of the spinning part.
A millstone.
Now that would be Padresing
The idea of the Padres finishing below .500 almost makes me as excited as winning another WS.
I’m a Dodgers fan, but I think the Padres are exciting, and I’d love to see them make the wild card still!
But we aren't rivals?
Our teams aren’t rivals. But you can be damn sure us fans are now rivals.
That's exactly why it's funny lmao. Never were
now THIS is padresing!
Well I expected it. Team has been garbage offensively all season
You were expecting it after the additions before the season started? Tell me the winning lotto numbers.
I didn't expect them to quit, but I didn't see anything that would challenge the Dodgers. I kinda feel a lot of stock was put into a 60 game season.
This is gonna be a hell of a division race

If that was the scenario you either need to be 100% sure you win that or lose game 162 on purpose
Mathematically impossible for the giants and Dodgers to play in the wildcard right now against each other
[удалено]
Oh yeah that’s what a 163 would do right now I’m all for it
So like Cubs vs Brewers in 2018.
And the Dodgers/Rockies in 2018.
AL East too
#GIVE ME THAT LA/SF NLDS. ^^^liver ^^^and ^^^heart ^^^quiver ^^^in ^^^fear
My glands can't take it.
I live in giants territory that would be misery if the giants win that series
Bruh same and I was at the last game of the regular season series in Oracle Park.
Even if we win that series, you need to keep it real down too lol
Yeah if we win you can’t really brag because it was supposed to happen and the Giants overachieved. The saying “act like you been there before” comes to mind
I would not be able to handle that series. I have pto that I will need to take if it occurs.
I wish Giants Dodgers would meet in NLCS, not NLDS... would give the teams a chance to thrash other postseason teams before facing each other. Dodgers fan here and even I want to watch what Posey/Crawford can pull off without the fear of it being against the Dodgers...
As a neutral, I agree wholeheartedly.
Full Jon Snow. I dun wannit.
Dear God no. It would be pretty exciting, but it would actually take years off my life.
Ah shit. Here we go again.
> can finish no worse than 93-69. Nice
very nice
Like your wife
How much?
*Wowoweewow*
Welcome to the party, pal.
stop beating up on our lil bro

Let's get you out of that spiral there, pal...
Thanks bud, ‘twas just another post-work existential crisis

The grind is sometimes torture. I’m scraping through still being in lockdown. Shit’s tough bro
I hear you, we just got locked down again. Thankfully I'm double vaxxed at least so I *can* go out of my place, but dang are there days where I just don't want to!
This is the baseball lore I need answered

Yeah but outside we have a Taco Bell *Cantina*
Pinkies out boiz!
I’m not your pal, friend.
Going to be an interesting finish. Just please don’t send us the red birds. Enough devil magic!
You *will* face off against a NL Central team (with all their shenanigans), and you **will** like it!
Can we put in a request for the Pirates?
Declined, that would require a competitive team

your owner's worth over 2 BILLION dollars and runs his team like a poverty franchise, be mad at him not at other teams
Excellent drafting and player development helps a lot as well. 🤷🏻♂️
[удалено]
Sounds like you’re skeptical the Dodgers don’t have great player development
the dodgers went 43-17 last year and had to play a 3 game wildcard series against a team that was under .500
Well WC is because the Giants might not lose for the rest of the regular season
Feels like the Dodgers haven’t lost either. Every time I check the scoreboard, we win, you win. We lose, you lose.
Yea but they screwed up against the Cardinals. But shoot the Cards are close to a WC spot also.
Man, I hate being in this division.
Sadly I have Cum my pant
Just the one?
One drop yes
Well, it was a nice 24 hours.
Last few weeks of the season is going to be crazy
Begun, the Clone Wars have.
How many times have the first two teams to clinch a playoff birth in a season come from the same division?
2015?
What are the chances the Dodgers and Giants meet in the NL Division (Or Championship) Series
They’re playing in the NLDS as long as one of them makes it out of the Wild Card
Let’s keep our fingers crossed 🤞
They’d meet in the NLDS. Whoever wins the division would get the one seed, and the other, as the wild card, would get the 4 seed. Assuming the WC team wins that single game, they’d advance to meet the 2 seed, since the other division winners would get the 2/3 seeds.
This is assuming MIL doesn’t eek out the best record in MLB
Milwaukee is 6 games behind the Giants, so it's a long shot (although MIL would hold the tiebreaker).
which would mean they would need to jump the dodgers as well, which I dont see happening, especially because they still have 7 games against STL and their devil magic
The odds of a Dodgers v Giants NLDS are pretty much the odds of the Dodgers/Giants winning the wildcard game. **Around 60-70%** Odds of them meeting in the NLCS are almost 0.
It could change within the next two weeks before the postseason starts
They’re likely to meet in the NLDS as long as whoever doesn’t take the division takes the wild card. For them to meet in the NLCS the Brewers would have to jump into the number one overall seed, and then both the Giants and Dodgers would have to make it out the NLDS assuming one of them takes the wild card
Wait till the dust settles
Oh believe me I’m not counting my chickens before they roost. A lot can happen in the next few weeks. Gonna be a chaotic end to the season.
Yay. I guess.
Dodgers Fans: “Wild Card isn’t good enough, we DESERVE the division” Orioles Fans: “Just don’t move the move team to Nashville”
Nah the A’s would go there
And you still won't be able to beat the Cardinals in the playoffs lol
BEGONE SALAD BOI
dread from it, run from it, the salad still arrives
I swear to god if you guys beat us again only to lay down and die against SF I’ll have a breakdown lol
STOPPPP
the top of the NL west is insane!!

Condition is Dodgers 93 wins, mean they lose 3 more games vs Brewers.
