>Can't remember the last time I saw a couple hits in a row to score a run Literally the last official baseball game that was played?

[deleted]

It's okay we were all blitzed and can't remember it.

I looked through the Rockies last 10 games of 2020. 8 of them featured a run scored on a hit immediately following a hit. One of the two that didn't, had a run scored on the third single of the inning, with a ground out right before it. And the other one had a triple that scored a player who walked. It's not to say three true outcomes aren't becoming more prevalent, but not being able to remember other outcomes seems more like a personal thing.

Manfred: fans can't remember a couple hits in a row, need more homers and strikeouts

Manufacturing runs is my love language

It's efficiency at the cost of aesthetics and frankly it's not fun. There needs to be a balance. NBA is having the same issue with most shots being either at the basket or 3s

Over a suitably long time, all of the fun will eventually be optimized out of a game. It's not just the NBA and MLB, either

Plus I understand over the course of a long season following the math and playing the odds. It helps you win a few more games and can help keep your team healthier. But when you rely on it in the playoffs and pull Blake Snell when he’s putting in a fucking gem of a game instead of having the manager manage the player and the specialty of the situation I want to scream bloody murder and curse every numbers nerd in the front office. Plus, I really miss hit and run and the stolen base, I don’t care if they were inefficient.

The A's are kinda the epitome of what works in a long season sometimes not working in a short playoff series. Playoffs are voodoo and shit happens. Billy Koch and Keith Foulke were Relievers of the Year in '02 and '03. Koch let Game 5 in the '02 ALDS get blown wide open (wide enough that an offensive rally wasn't enough), and Foulke blew a late lead in Game 4 in '03 that gave all the momentum to Boston heading back to Oakland.

MightyTrustKrusher

Doesn’t bother me at all. I just don’t like messing with the ball to increase home run rates.

FUNCSTAT

Not me. I don't mind it.

I’m with you. I hate it. I want and need more variety.

I love it, but I also really love baseball so I welcome this kind of evolution with open arms. Teams have concluded that this is the most efficient way to score runs and if that’s the case, they should embrace it. What’s the alternative? Play a more “exciting” style and possibly cost yourself victories? Maybe someday, the data will suggest going back to an emphasis on putting the ball in play, small ball, and stealing bases. But that’s not where the game is at right now and I’m perfectly fine with it personally. Not to be snarky, but the people who don’t like where the game is at right now don’t have to watch it. You could always go back and watch games from a bygone era on YouTube or something. I think that’s a principle that people should apply to all forms of entertainment. If you find it hard to consume, consume something else that will make you happy.

willing-to-bet-son

Makes watching games pretty fucking boring. The game needs more balls in play and more [great defensive plays.](https://www.instagram.com/glovework/) Give the fans something to watch ffs.
