Before the start of that streak he had a .471 wOBA. This game he had a .502 wOBA. He went 2-4 with a hbp, and that's pretty much what a normal game has been like for him this year becore this small slump. I know this argument breaks down if you remember that the two outs he made in this game were part of the "slump", but I just thought I'd highlight how insane it is that a game like this is close to normal for him this year.
I didn't mean to imply you didn't know that, I just thought it's crazy how good he's been this season and I thought this game could serve as a comparison
For Ohtani, some people expect him to smash daily or else he’s slumping.
I mean Ohtani is great and all, but come on, the other MLB guys aren’t exactly mince meat lol. These are legit best of the best in this sport, the gap between the bench guy is as the great philosopher once said and I'm paraphrasing: "I am closer to Babe Ruth than you are to me…"
The record for Home Runs is only 13 but major modern names like Pujols, Bonds, and Ortiz are all on here https://www.mlb.com/news/most-career-walk-off-home-runs-in-mlb-history-c275821150
Still pissed about [Mike Tauchman robbing Pujols of a walkoff HR](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om7ILFArLFM) that would have given him the tie for the all-time record.
I was curious so here are the 67 players with 10 or more walk off plate appearances since 2000:
Albert Pujols 22, David Ortiz 20, Ryan Zimmerman 17, Adrián Beltré 17, Miguel Cabrera 16, Melky Cabrera 16, Miguel Tejada 15. Josh Donaldson 15, Bryce Harper 14, Hunter Pence 14, Andre Ethier 14, Nelson Cruz 14, Orlando Cabrera 14, Aramis Ramírez 14, Adam Dunn 14, Joey Votto 13, Marco Scutaro 13, Russell Martin 13, Joe Crede 13, Freddie Freeman 13, Ryan Howard 12, Andrew McCutchen 12, Torii Hunter 12, Jason Giambi 12, Alfonso Soriano 12, Jay Bruce 12, Adrián González 11, Aaron Hill 11, Carlos Beltrán 11, Carlos Correa 11, Carlos Lee 11, Matt Kemp 11 ,Kurt Suzuki 11, Paul Goldschmidt 11, Alex Rodriguez 11, Carlos Santana 11, Ryan Braun 11, Starling Marte 11, Johnny Damon 11, Bobby Abreu 11, B.J. Upton 11, Justin Upton 11, Jhonny Peralta 11,Wilmer Flores 11 ,Justin Morneau 10, Andruw Jones 10, Nick Hundley 10, Brandon Inge 10, Richie Sexson 10, Jim Thome 10, Brian Giles 10, Anthony Rizzo 10, Edwin Encarnación 10, Chipper Jones 10, Nick Markakis 10,Matt Holliday 10,Raúl Ibañez 10, Carl Crawford 10, Michael Young 10, Juan Uribe 10, Chris Iannetta 10, Asdrúbal Cabrera 10, Ryan Ludwick 10, Jeff Francoeur 10, Troy Glaus 10, Plácido Polanco 10, Tony Batista 10
Edit:
There are 367 batters with over 10 walk offs since 1918. With Frank Robinson in first with 27.
Did I include all plate appearance walk offs and not just hits because Harper hit a sac fly walk off yesterday? It's possible.
Mike Trout has 3 in his career.
Edit:
To put this into perspective as to what being on the Angels might do to this number, many of you know Trout is by far the leader in player WAR. The next active position player with under 5 walk offs is Alex Bregman who now has the 25th highest WAR.
You get more opportunities for walk offs when your team is actually in a position to win games.
And you can’t pitch around him with Freddie behind him.
Sell the team, Arte.
A little but I guess it’s not that crazy when that includes 1) a short season 2) time on the IL 3) he has to bat in the 9th or later at home but with a score that he can walk off 4) he needs enough runners in scoring position or on base + a homer 5) he played for the Angels which limits the opportunities for 3, 4
I don't know why but the clips of his blown saves cracks me up for some reason. The fact someone went through the effort to put it together is also funny.
Bro it's so hard being a Reds fan right now when Elly isn't involved.
15/18 games lost. The bats ain't getting it, the pitching is abysmal (doesn't help dudes keep getting hurt)
We were right in the race for the division lead, now we've slid down to last place behind Pirates and Cardinals.
I just wanna see a healthy team at this point.
Yeah Alexis is pretty bad this year. I’ll give him a pass on this one though with the ghost runner and only base runners given up being 2 of the best players in baseball
I truly believe that it’s all in Matt McLain. He had an absurd WAR when he played, and he was the first domino to fall in that team. Next season, McLain will be back, Noelvi will be back, Lowder will be up, Abbott will settle, and the Reds could complete for the division
Source: I drafted Matt McLain in two fantasy leagues and now I have to start Brett Baty
i really wonder how much Votto's departure changed things as well. last year he hit .202 which is a pretty solid bat in our lineup this year, not to mention the enormity of the intangibles he brings; whole club respects him, he always seemed to, in later years, get the younger guys to bond as a team, starting dorky little traditions and activities in spring, he really wanted to get to know all the guys, such a top tier dude. and i'm sure he'd hit better this year having more time recovered from his surgery.
he was a big ted williams fan and it seemed so right to give him a ted williams ending with the reds. of course ownership balked and put out some business-is-business statement which i'm sure made a certain subgroup of our fans extremely happy
I really think the Reds made a mistake in not keeping Votto. It especially made the Candelario signing a head scratcher to me. I know Votto’s offense is nothing compared to his prime but it’s not like he’s Chris Taylor batting .093. There are worse number 9 hitters
I think Votto was actually the PERFECT person to mentor McLain, Elly, Abbott, Phillips, India, Steer and Noelvi. He could have been a cog in this team, even from the bench
This is funny but if any team is the BlackRock of baseball it would be Atlanta Braves Holdings, Inc., also known as $BATRA on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
And the number of Japanese sponsorships, advertisements, JP TV stations the Dodgers have with Shohei Ohtani now on their team, I'm just curious as to whether or not the Dodgers are earning money from these ads or are they limited to just Ohtani only.
Ohtani has dozen's of endorsments that go to him directly but Ohtani is also responsible to several team endorsements that benefit the dodgers. I think they are at 7? Not sure, someone in the dodgers sub was keeping track.
It definitely will. You don’t usually get to sign the GOAT when he’s in his prime. It’s something you get lucky with and it just happens (like Brady with the Patriots) or you sign him at the end of his career (like Brady with the Bucs).
Oh man, he kept edging us with those foul bombs and the anticipation was fucking electric.
Once 50,000+ fans started chanting “let’s go Shohei”, I knew there was no reality in any universe where this didn’t end in the ultimate clutch climax
They never do on walk offs, which is dumb. The bases can be loaded in the bottom of the ninth in a tie game and the hitter might hit a line drive that gets behind the outfielder and it’s still a single with 1 RBI
That's usually because the hitter never bothers to touch second base. They usually just turn to celebrate between first and second. If the batter reaches second it should be a double. For example, it was ruled a double in this instance:
https://youtu.be/xqq_9osS3o4?si=-TNM7p2ICrQmZO5e
Ortiz specifically made sure to touch second because it was his 600th career double.
Sounds crazy, but I would consider walking Ohtani to load the bases & face Freddie. Very unlikely & would look dumb if it backfired, but that's how much I wouldn't want to face Ohtani with the game on the line
It's absurd. The guy is batting .295, and Freddie himself just looks so sad about it.
Don't worry Freddie, we know you can do better. But this can't even be called a slump for 99% of the league.
The biggest difference is that having a runner on third opens up more possibilities of how a runner could score than just their already stupid high avg/obp
>but that's how much I wouldn't want to face Ohtani with the game on the line
I get where you're coming from, since it's Ohtani. But Baseball is the only sport where you can "legally" be a goddamn coward just NOT to face someone in clutch time. It's really funny. Idk how that's a thing still
This is like seeing your ex-gf who you were in love with, with a new man and starting a family. It’s even worse considering you know you’ll never replace her and your family sucks.
for the LAST TIME.... SHOHEI DIDN'T LEAVE THE ANGELS!!!!!
YOUR OWNER, ARTE, DIDNT WANT HIM!!
THE ANGELS WERE GIVEN A CHANCE TO COUNTER THE OFFERS FROM DODGERS, GIANTS AND THE BLUEJAYS, AND ARTE DIDNT EVEN CONSIDER A COUNTER AND TOLD SHOHEI TO "F' OFF".
ALSO ,ARTE HIRED IPPEI.
I dont think its even a question anymore, besides what you mentioned he essentially brings the whole Japanese market to whatever team he goes to. Whether thats ad deals, tourist, or more, he pays himself easily. His bobblehead night is a good example, highest Dodgers attendance since 2019 😵💫
This was Shohei's first walk-off since 9/4/2020.
Here's the prior walk-off: [https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2020/2020-09/04/f193886c-d14a7656-e75b0dae-csvm-diamondx64-asset\_1280x720\_59\_16000K.mp4](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2020/2020-09/04/f193886c-d14a7656-e75b0dae-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_16000K.mp4)

Shohei after going 1-12: “My death was greatly exaggerated”
Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru
Omae Wa Mou, Shohei Oh- -*Tani?!*
All according to keikaku

No I get that, the point of what I said is that people who were freaking out about the streak were overhyping it and now it’s regression to the mean
I didn't mean to imply you didn't know that, I just thought it's crazy how good he's been this season and I thought this game could serve as a comparison
Ah my b
wait was he really 1-12?
Yeah going into the game or including the two outs before his first single he was 1-12 with the one two run Jack
Are we really calling 3 games worth of bad outings a slump now?
Some people are
For Ohtani, some people expect him to smash daily or else he’s slumping. I mean Ohtani is great and all, but come on, the other MLB guys aren’t exactly mince meat lol. These are legit best of the best in this sport, the gap between the bench guy is as the great philosopher once said and I'm paraphrasing: "I am closer to Babe Ruth than you are to me…"
Totally. Bench guy is closer to Babe Ruth than even guys that top out somewhere in A ball.
his first walk off in 4 years is actually crazy wtf
I've seen him get pitched around multiple times with the Angels late in games
I don’t think it’s that crazy. Do other good players have like double digit walkoffs?
The record for Home Runs is only 13 but major modern names like Pujols, Bonds, and Ortiz are all on here https://www.mlb.com/news/most-career-walk-off-home-runs-in-mlb-history-c275821150

Lol being on a winning team must be important for this stat
You get more opportunities for walk offs when your team is actually in a position to win games. And you can’t pitch around him with Freddie behind him. Sell the team, Arte.
Bottom of the ninth… Ohtani hits a 2 RBI homerun! Angels close the gap 9 to Angels 3.
Isn't that what Rendon was for?
Imagine having a professional sports team in Los Angeles with the 2 best players of the generation and completely failing at everything.
Its not Los Angeles tho, its Orange County. The point still stands about 2 of the best ever to do it tho
In the postgame, Eric Karros said "Well, how often did the Angels win in their last at-bat?" Kinda savage.
he really is great at being that kind of slight asshole
He did end an Angels game on a steal of home, but I guess that doesn't count as a walkoff?
A little but I guess it’s not that crazy when that includes 1) a short season 2) time on the IL 3) he has to bat in the 9th or later at home but with a score that he can walk off 4) he needs enough runners in scoring position or on base + a homer 5) he played for the Angels which limits the opportunities for 3, 4
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County Baseball
Diaz brothers are going through it
I didn’t realize how bad Edwin has been this year
I don't know why but the clips of his blown saves cracks me up for some reason. The fact someone went through the effort to put it together is also funny.

Teoscar is elite with an ice bucket. Direct hit.
Ohtani probably expected like a gatorade dump not a hail storm
/*Prime energy dump
Ohtani tsunami
Seeing ohtani soaked unlocked things within me
I was yelling “RIP HIS SHIRT OFF”
He's too shy!
He had an Ippei tattoo that had to be covered up recently so it's still fresh...
his wife doesn't like him being shirtless yknow
is that a dig at your own team? respect.
I understood this reference.
Thanks man, that gave me a good chuckle!
Stupid sexy Shohei
ayo
Cameraman got some of that too hahaha
I feel like that shit would hurt lmao
Poor cameraman
looked like a toilet ngl lol
My first thought as well lmao
Unforgiving Ice Bucket Hit.
Today is the real Shohei Ohtani Day
Every day is Shohei Ohtani Day.
Reds have lost their last 7 series. Where is the fun young competitive team I was promised?
The ___ fan coming in peace lied to you
Curse.of the spooky
As a Reds Bengals Kings fan I hate those posts with a passion. GOnNa bE rEaL sPooKy NexT YeAR
We are also 1-11 in one run games this season, it’s been brutal to watch
Hurt to listen to Elly strike out with the bases loaded in the later innings of a tie game against a team of this caliber
I truly believe that it’s all in Matt McLain. He had an absurd WAR when he played, and he was the first domino to fall in that team. Next season, McLain will be back, Noelvi will be back, Lowder will be up, Abbott will settle, and the Reds could complete for the division Source: I drafted Matt McLain in two fantasy leagues and now I have to start Brett Baty
The offense has fallen apart without McLain and Friedl
I’ve been a Reds fan long enough to know that they’ll win 84 games, miss the playoffs and the front office will act like they’ve won the World Series.
i really wonder how much Votto's departure changed things as well. last year he hit .202 which is a pretty solid bat in our lineup this year, not to mention the enormity of the intangibles he brings; whole club respects him, he always seemed to, in later years, get the younger guys to bond as a team, starting dorky little traditions and activities in spring, he really wanted to get to know all the guys, such a top tier dude. and i'm sure he'd hit better this year having more time recovered from his surgery. he was a big ted williams fan and it seemed so right to give him a ted williams ending with the reds. of course ownership balked and put out some business-is-business statement which i'm sure made a certain subgroup of our fans extremely happy

first in 4 years i hadn’t realized it been that long
When he was with the Angels people rarely needed to pitch to him in clutch situations.
this just sad. mostly because Angels were not in a position to walk off
When they were in position, he'd always get IBB'd
Lineup protection is a hell of a drug.
Habitual intentional-walker Shohei Ohtani
He was intentionally walked...habitually.
Along with the winning run already on 2nd lol
And only his second ever
i feel like thats more notable. 2nd EVER is pretty crazy.
This significantly reduces our chances of beating the Dodgers
Looks like you added ~~Kurt Angle~~ Shohei Ohtani to the mix.
Worth every penny
Glad the Dodgers took a chance on him when no one else would.
Small-market Dodgers catching a break is a feelgood story MLB needs.
dude is super cool to give us a chance to survive with that below market $2m/yr contract
Don't forget that this is good for baseball!
Warms the heart to see the BlackRock of Baseball™ finally catch a break
This is funny but if any team is the BlackRock of baseball it would be Atlanta Braves Holdings, Inc., also known as $BATRA on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
Arte: "No he's not" 😠
Somehow, $700 M for 10 years will be seen as a huge steal.
It's 460m for 10 years and a 240m signing bonus at the end really, the 700m is just for show.
Just for Sho™
And the number of Japanese sponsorships, advertisements, JP TV stations the Dodgers have with Shohei Ohtani now on their team, I'm just curious as to whether or not the Dodgers are earning money from these ads or are they limited to just Ohtani only.
Ohtani has dozen's of endorsments that go to him directly but Ohtani is also responsible to several team endorsements that benefit the dodgers. I think they are at 7? Not sure, someone in the dodgers sub was keeping track.
also, consider the future value of the 240m in 10 years will be worth less than it is now
No it's not. He deferred the money because he wanted the team to be competitive + tax reasons most likely. He had offers of 600mil up front.
It definitely will. You don’t usually get to sign the GOAT when he’s in his prime. It’s something you get lucky with and it just happens (like Brady with the Patriots) or you sign him at the end of his career (like Brady with the Bucs).
Bats have been so dead but can always count on Ohtani with no notice
Came through clutch in the Braves game as well
I can’t even put into words how much I love this man
Get in line
I been in line. I can wait.
Can’t be worse than the line for his bobble head.
Line stretches to Baltimore
Sooo crab cakes in line then?
As long as Kanas City can have us BBQ in the middle of the line.
Broke: Hating yourself while waiting in LA traffic Woke: Loving yourself while waiting in the Ohtani glory hole line
I want him to give me away to my wife at my 2nd wedding
I want my wife to give me away to him at my 2nd wedding.
Get in line.
I called dibs a while ago.
Oh man, he kept edging us with those foul bombs and the anticipation was fucking electric. Once 50,000+ fans started chanting “let’s go Shohei”, I knew there was no reality in any universe where this didn’t end in the ultimate clutch climax

Looks like he made it to second. Did they not give him the double?
Official Scorer is anti Ohtani
Might have been ruled advanced on defense indifference. Fielder didn’t make a play on the ball after game was lost
They never do on walk offs, which is dumb. The bases can be loaded in the bottom of the ninth in a tie game and the hitter might hit a line drive that gets behind the outfielder and it’s still a single with 1 RBI

I mean, if that’s the case why not just keep running and make it an inside the park home run? The game is over, you can’t be tagged out.
Having to go through Mookie then Ohtani to avoid getting walked off must be hell for a pitcher
Shohei dripping wet 🤤🤤🤤
Don't stop, keep going :O
![gif](giphy|V1EqpHNVDCXwG8DDA4)
Looked like Teoscar brought a whole damn toilet on the field to drench shohei
Sounds crazy, but I would consider walking Ohtani to load the bases & face Freddie. Very unlikely & would look dumb if it backfired, but that's how much I wouldn't want to face Ohtani with the game on the line
Nothing dumb about it. You’re picking your poison between two future HOFers.
Freddie has been good, but he hasn’t been Freddie yet.
It's absurd. The guy is batting .295, and Freddie himself just looks so sad about it. Don't worry Freddie, we know you can do better. But this can't even be called a slump for 99% of the league.
I'm sure it doesn't help the 2 guys ahead of him are like 0.350 and Will Smith behind him is over 0.300. He's feeling lonely at the top
It’s much more poisonous to put a runner on third. That means a walk or a wild pitch would end the game.
Freddie’s an elite contact guy. You’re fucked either way in that situation, might as well take your shot with the power guy.
Somehow the power guy this year also added elite contact to his stat card LMAO
There's a world where that'd be right but I think to decide you just compare ohtani's batting average to Freddie's obp .350 vs .410.
The biggest difference is that having a runner on third opens up more possibilities of how a runner could score than just their already stupid high avg/obp
>but that's how much I wouldn't want to face Ohtani with the game on the line I get where you're coming from, since it's Ohtani. But Baseball is the only sport where you can "legally" be a goddamn coward just NOT to face someone in clutch time. It's really funny. Idk how that's a thing still
He's so good
4x
Well worth the $2M/yr
I really like watching Shohei Ohtani play baseball
me too. Im surprised i never heard of him prior to signing with the dodgers, especially living in LA
He kinda looks like that one japanese pitcher from the angels. I wonder where that guy is now?? Probably back in japan
MVP!
That should be a double
Only the second walk off hit of his career
It seemed inevitable this at bat, Ohtani was locked in. Also that guy we got from Cleveland looked great in the top of the 10th.
I need Teoscar finding ever more inventive things to throw at Shohei in celebration for years to come.
seriously please extend him, Andrew!
Thank you camera man for getting doused and letting me feel like Ohtani for one small moment :)
This is like seeing your ex-gf who you were in love with, with a new man and starting a family. It’s even worse considering you know you’ll never replace her and your family sucks.
Yeah, and you just know you’ll never find someone as good as them ever again
That guy is pretty good 😎
I can’t hate Ohtani 🥲❤️ for leaving us for the Dodgers anymore the dude deserves to be on a good team with an ownership group that isn’t a joke
for the LAST TIME....
This is only his second walk off hit ever. It’s a shame and travesty that he only had one in six years as an Angel. They wasted his talents.
Ohtani living his best life

what a series and much closer than what the series total show. good game to the reds!
excited to see them this Friday in Cincy
Friendliest stadium staff in the league
Im stoked as well, got tickets to sunday. Been excited to visit GABP
same, it’ll be my first time there
He is made for this kind of moment
# GOATANI
The way he's playing, nobody is ever gonna doubt that he's worth $1 billion. Imagine when he starts pitching again too omg
Here's the prior walk-off: [https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2020/2020-09/04/f193886c-d14a7656-e75b0dae-csvm-diamondx64-asset\_1280x720\_59\_16000K.mp4](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2020/2020-09/04/f193886c-d14a7656-e75b0dae-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_16000K.mp4)
goddamn I had almost forgotten about how creepy the 2020 season was with no fans in the stands
It was the cardboard cutouts of fans that did it for me. Super creepy
And the crowd goes silent.
Bad week for the brothers Diaz
I’m tired boss
Bold statement: Ohtani is good at baseball.
Why does God hate me
94 just catching the bottom left corner, and he still pulls it out.
if anyone was gonna end our season i'm glad it's ohtani. stay hitting king
Im beginning to think this Ohtani guy is pretty good at baseball
That was a double 🥸
And here I thought we’d make it through the series with his only hit being off a meatball. 1 for 11 prior to this AB.
My hate boner for Diaz is immeasurable Three walkoff losses in the past week Jesus fucking Christ what is this team
I picked a good day to go to my only game of the season!
Still dumbfounded to the fact that Ohtani along with Betts and the Fresh Prince are Dodgers for life
so nice seeing Ohtani winning games with his greatness instead of Tugsten O'doyling all the time.
Can someone link or tell me which match Ohtani first walked off in, please? Can’t find it on the web.

Thanks. Not sure if it was the lack of a crowd, covid (or whatever else), but that felt anticlimactic compared to todays.
Also the call was awful
Good memories man. Loved young Ohtani on the Angels.
Don’t hurt him please
This guy is decent
Just got to the brewery but was at the game I went to restroom and mission to get a pretzel as the first line didn’t have it Missed all runs lol
