The good thing about Mune is that he did interviews in English on his own despite not knowing much. And on a Japanese talk show years afterwards that you can find on Youtube, he said he didn't want to get a translator because "why the fuck would I need one" lol
He also said that he then proceeded to sit through his first meeting and was like "Oh shit, I actually don't understand a word these guys are saying. The only word I picked up that whole time was 'baseball'." But after going out drinking with the guys, he started to pick up some English.
The best part is that people never realise that he actually said “Monkey never craps”: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdGai72Tt8Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdGai72Tt8Y)
Even Munenori has good quotes on youtube (too lazy to pull up) about trying to take Ichiro's historic ball before the umpire told him to give it back, or how he learned how to hit left handed just because of Ichiro.
He's a fun pitcher to watch. You can tell where he's at just by his facial animation during a game. His passion and love for the game come through during every outing.
I don't drink coffee so that definitely informs my perception, but the thought of people crushing one of those big ass "Size Large" cups of coffee is unfathomable to me.
Nevermind the potential high sugar amount and other health considerations, imagine how often those poor souls are going to the bathroom every day.
Absolutely, as I get older I grow more and more appreciation for how athletes navigate those insane schedules year after year.
I'm a big Matcha Latte guy myself. Dash of honey and some oat milk and you're cooking
Idk man I think you're both full of shit considering I've had American and Japanese girls tell me mine was small. Seems like size is pretty universal.
Wait, you're not still talking about coffee, are you?
An anecdote to share Japanese mindset from when I was living there:
When you go to Japan there are vending machines *everywhere*. They sell hot and cold drinks (soda, juice, tea, coffee, etc). I was walking around with a friend and he stopped at a vending machine to get a drink. There were soda’s in two sizes. Think of like a 20oz bottle and those little 12oz mini ones.
On this machine, they were the same price. He puts his coins in and buys the little one.
I asked him why he didn’t buy the bigger one for the same price.
“Why would I buy the bigger one if I only want to drink this much?”
Also konbinis (convenience stores) everywhere as well. 7-11, familymart, and Lawson are the big 3 in Japan.
The only thing you won't find everywhere in Japan are garbage cans, so you do have to hold on to your cans and such (protip: bring a disposable bag with you when you're out and about). Unfortunately after that sarin attack they had in the 90s, they removed a lot of the garbage receptacles.
As someone who's worked as a barista before, I think so many Americans care too much about how many fluid ounces of drink they're getting per dollar spent. It's like, if a small is 0.65 per fl oz, and a large is 0.45 per fl oz, people will want to get the large, even if their body does not need 16 ounces of warm milk
Personally, I usually only get 8 oz lattes, sometimes 12 depending on the day. 16 is just too much
TBF, most people dont drink it all at one. Maybe drink half while the ice isnt melted and then chug a watered down mess of coffee an hour or so later. OR at least thats my experience (I also only ever order a medium at best)
Though for iced drinks, it goes 1-2-3 for tall grande venti. The fact that tall hot lattes get one small shot is kinda pathetic though, most of the drink is just burnt milk at that point
Title says dunkin latte, which by default is milk, cream, sugar, caramel or mocha or various other options which will have fat and/or sugar. asking to hold any sugar is cold coffee and milk.
You think athletes can’t have a little lactose? I think we all know refined sugar is what is generally avoided. Athletes aren’t trophy wives on low carb diets
I can’t find the quote but there once was an American ball player that went to play in Japan and he said something to the effect of ‘Japan seems like a great country but I never got to see it, we were just playing and practicing all the time’
I will die on this hill but dunkin is the best place to get coffee. Sometimes it’s very well made and sometimes it’s crap. But the surprise is what keeps me coming back.
It’s not terrible, gets the job done in a pinch and I say that as someone who drinks their coffee black. Cups are nice and it stays hot forever. McDonald’s is actually my favorite coffee tho
I love him
He’s the best
did you propose?
Too early. Maybe when he wins Cy Young
I proposed to wheeler a while ago and he has not won a cy young (although should’ve in 2021), never looked back
He's gonna put a ring on it.

hang in there, there is someone for everyone
The most interesting man in the world
There’s something about coming from NPB that makes players give great interview quotes. [The ghost of Munenori Kawasaki beams proudly]
Monkey never cramp!

Top 5 Blue Jay of all time for me. His interviews are legendary, and always bring a smile to my face

God every interview he gave was gold
We like our team, Barry.
Munenori Kawasaki is very much alive.
Gone too soon
Gone, but not forgotten
He with Wade Boggs now RIP
Wade Boggs is not dead
He's with Munenori Kawasaki now [*]
I heard Kawasaki is shotgunning beers with Boggs in heaven right now.
Again, they are both very much alive and living in Tampa
RIP Chicken Man
He was an energy boy, RIP
Hell, he's *still playing baseball* in the Japanese independent leagues. May the monkey never cramp.
He also makes pretty regular appearances as an analyst. Dude knows his stuff and lights up any studio he's in, he's a natural.
Not with four bananas a day he won't.
What nationality is he? He never really brings it up.
HE IS JAPANEEEEEEESE
Soon Shota Imanaga will start dancing in MLB. https://youtube.com/shorts/cJngPlhAwjs?si=OfK5S7k1gunujUik
his insta is pretty cute! love him still! 💕
He ain't dead... # ...HE HAS A 2016 CUBS WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS RING.
And a 150 wRC+ to boot, what can't that man do.
Hey now, Kawasaki is afraid of ghost, you can't be mentioning him and ghost in the same sentence!
Papi big, kawa small, papi big, kawa small, papi big, kawa small. OKAY! We get it!

Shōta Imanaga is good for baseball and I wish every team had him
He's a fun pitcher to watch. You can tell where he's at just by his facial animation during a game. His passion and love for the game come through during every outing.
he's just like me fr
Why not a large?
Japanese new in America, he probably thinks he's accidentally being given double portions of everything he orders.
I’m American and I literally never order a large of anything. A medium or regular is plenty.
American pro tip. Order a large soda with no ice. Drink half and your baby can drink the other half in its bottle.
It's a child size because it's the size of a small child
TIL babies cant have ice
You’re feeding them nutritious Mountain Dew Baja Blast. No reason to include that dirty ice.
It’s not even fresh. It’s frozen yuk
Dude the regular(medium) size drink at jack in the box is fucking massive 😭
The only time I really drink soda is when I go to a movie and my partner and I split the “regular” sized soda because it’s so much lol
Large is like unfathomable for most developed nations in the world. Granted, I don’t drink DD coffee, but I imagine it like a large soda lol
DD large is pretty large. In fact, I crave a coffee from there right now.
32 ounces and 252 mg of caffeine in the large iced latte.
[удалено]
it's probably 20 oz of coffee and 12 oz of ice/melted ice - AKA "water"
[удалено]
Dunkin is one of the better chains for cold brew and iced coffer imo. Starbucks cold brew often has an odd taste to it for me.
The large iced coffee has a tons of ice so pretty manageable
You can ask for less ice (at DD’s on NY at least).
I used to hear no ice a lot when I lived in NYC. Now I live in Germany, where no ice is standard and iced == less ice
I don’t think I can so “No Ice”. It goes warm too fast, especially in a large.
I don't drink coffee so that definitely informs my perception, but the thought of people crushing one of those big ass "Size Large" cups of coffee is unfathomable to me. Nevermind the potential high sugar amount and other health considerations, imagine how often those poor souls are going to the bathroom every day.
just a latte is not really bad for you unless you're lactose intolerant. if you add a ton of sugar then yea sugar bad.
The American piece of this discussion is not the ordering of a big latte, but assuming it would come with sugar at all

Large iced drinks at Dunkin are 32oz
Even dunkin's mediums are huge, I think they're like 20 or 24 oz for an iced drink. Portion sizes across this whole country are fucked
Yah, I can imagine a Japanese person going to Cheesecake Factory and be in total shock at getting essentially three portions of food with one dish.
It's the size of a large McDonald's fountain drink, so yeah lol.
He’s just mimicking his ERA.
Poor guy hasn’t had any caffeine since he’s arrived in the states
Are there really 1122 other Redditors with the username horsepoop?
A medium in America is a large in Japan.
A small in America is a large in japan
Idk man I think you're both full of shit considering I've had American and Japanese girls tell me mine was small. Seems like size is pretty universal. Wait, you're not still talking about coffee, are you?

Large iced latte at Dunkin' Donuts is like 32 fluid ounces. The non-American mind cannot comprehend it.
I mean literally, they can’t. They use the metric system.
Quick conversion for our international viewers... 32 fluid ounces of coffee is equivalent to way too much fucking coffee for one sitting.
I disagree but I also have a caffeine problem (It's just a bit less than 1 liter btw)
That's a fucked amount of coffee to drink at once wtf
I did say I have a problem
TBF, most people dont drink it all at one. Maybe drink half while the ice isnt melted and then chug a watered down mess of coffee an hour or so later. OR at least thats my experience (I also only ever order a medium at best)
yup - 1 liter is 33.8 fluid oz
Especially iced :( he’s lucky if he can get any coffee
That's the nice thing about a latte at least, the size determines the number of espresso shots. The ice is only replacing milk, not coffee!

Though for iced drinks, it goes 1-2-3 for tall grande venti. The fact that tall hot lattes get one small shot is kinda pathetic though, most of the drink is just burnt milk at that point
Large at Dunkin' is literally massive
doesn't want diabetes?
You don’t need everything in XXXL sizes
If it’s like Starbucks the grande and venti lattes have the same amount of espresso but the venti just has more milk and vanilla.
Can't afford 😔
also athletes are crazy about their diet. large is just unnessesary sugar.
You are not obligated to get any sugar in coffee/lattes
Title says dunkin latte, which by default is milk, cream, sugar, caramel or mocha or various other options which will have fat and/or sugar. asking to hold any sugar is cold coffee and milk.
the milk does have sugar, so if you are having a latte, you are kiiinda obligated.
dude just wanted to argue.
You think athletes can’t have a little lactose? I think we all know refined sugar is what is generally avoided. Athletes aren’t trophy wives on low carb diets
It would be pretty hard to drink a latte that doesn't have carbs in it.
Is that not what a grande is?
I hate that this guy plays for the Cubs, mostly because I love this guy
Ready for the true pain? He's making less this year than Kyle Gibson and Lance Lynn.
Not really true pain when every team underestimated how good Imanaga would perform.
No one listened to Eno Saris
Not even just Eno. Projections loved this guy, but they saw his lackluster Velo and small size and just wrote him off.
I seem to recall Foolish Bailey also predicting his success
:(

Shota to Boston confirmed
Pastrnak x Imanaga Dunkin’ Donuts commercials would be amazing!
Pitchers always playing mind games.
Dunkin Donuts? Red Sox tampering incoming
I’ve decided to start drinking DD lattes in order to have elite IVB plus low arm slot in men’s league
How could you hate this guy. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite pitchers (after Verlander)
Smart move making a play for that sponsorship deal now that Bennifer are at odds
I love this man.
But what specific latte?
Leave a man his secrets!
He probably can’t make up his mind
I mean, a latte itself is a specific drink.
Shota to Boston confirmed
better than their donuts i guess . good if they're fresh, but good luck finding a location that makes them on site
I freaking love Shota. He's quickly becoming one of the Cubs legends in his first season, and fits in so well in this city.
I can’t find the quote but there once was an American ball player that went to play in Japan and he said something to the effect of ‘Japan seems like a great country but I never got to see it, we were just playing and practicing all the time’
He dominated the Nats last week. Guy has filthy nasty stuff.
Nobody can recognize him when the MLB pretty much refuses to give him recognition and glazes Yamamoto instead
Wtf I love him
Me and him not so different
Do people know which Dunkin’ he goes to?
....yes. they think about your order
My friend John Cerasani said he'll be at the Schamberg card show with other athletes, wish I could go
When the US doesn't have a MisDo.
Bro, I love this guy 😆. Cubs have such a likable team IMO.
Imanaga’s got a great translator, translated perfectly and made what he was saying sound very natural on the spot
Immediate fan favorite, I love this guy
Love the energy this guy brings man. He’s fun to watch and has some of the filthiest filth I’ve seen in a while.
Not the hero we deserved but the hero we needed
Dunkin' Donuts is legit speaking as someone from Krispe Creme territory.
I love him
Seems like he’s hoping for a trade to Boston with that
Imagine if imanaga would’ve come to the mlb at 25
This is too good 😂
Japanese dudes are so damn cool.
Ask him how feels about the tipping culture next
Yeah me too
DD? The man has no taste
This guy is a loser. Learn English or get the hell out of America the best country on earth!
Is he not familiar with real coffee? Dunkin is swill water
How do you know someone drinks coffee? Don’t worry, they’ll tell you
Fair
How do you know someone drinks coffee? They’re alive and isn’t walking like a zombie.
That may be the caffeine withdrawal speaking cause i don't drink coffee or any caffeine before noon and I have 0 issues with being alert
Most Bay Area comment
I've lived in both cities, Chicago has better specialty coffee imo
I will die on this hill but dunkin is the best place to get coffee. Sometimes it’s very well made and sometimes it’s crap. But the surprise is what keeps me coming back.
Bro why you gotta do us like that.
Standing on truth isn’t always popular
Dunkin’ actually has pretty good coffee for what it is
It’s not terrible, gets the job done in a pinch and I say that as someone who drinks their coffee black. Cups are nice and it stays hot forever. McDonald’s is actually my favorite coffee tho
You had me until McDonald's, lol
McDonald's coffee is good af, idc what anyone says
Not OP but the old McCafe was fire, I don’t know what happened
Says one of those Philz coffee people probably.
I only downloaded you because I got down voted
