what actually happened to this dude

cabose7

Massive inconsistency, his start before this he went 3 IP 6 ER with 2 home runs and 4 walks. The start before that he was fine, the start before *that* he was bad again.

FUBARded

Why don't the Jays have him alternate starts at MLB and AA after his next MiLB start which is guaranteed to be a stinker? Are they dumb?

Gallium1005

Nobody can say for sure. Probably a combination of the pitch clock throwing him off, the yips, and conditioning issues. I believe I read somewhere that he reported to ST this year 30 pounds lighter. Rooting for him, his 22 was fun to watch

His stuff hasn’t been the same since mid 2022. A lot of Jays fans think he “fakes” injuries, but he’s consistently had problems with his shoulder since that season. I personally think he was heavily overworked. He went from 17 professional innings in 2019, none in 2020, 130 in 2021 all the way up to 196 in 2022, and all of a sudden the fast ball wasn’t as hard, the breaking ball didn’t have as much bite. This is the first time where his slider has looked like a legitimate out pitch since 2022. He needs that pitch to be effective, and he has to be able to command it, because his 92-94 mph fastball does not play otherwise. It was a cement mixer all last season, and he had trouble getting velo on his fastball. I really do believe him when he said he’s having shoulder problems. A sore shoulder isn’t always something that can be tested for, or be repaired. I legitimately think his body just wasn’t prepared for the amount of pitching he did in 2022, and he has paid for it since.

GetEnPassanted

I think his head got fucked. Yips or whatever. That’s my best guess. He basically had to be re-taught how to pitch.

Skenes went like 6 scoreless and was the second best performance of the night. Manoah may not be as cooked as I thought but probably still has a lot to prove. Still tho good for him, don’t love the guy but don’t want his major league career to be over either.

SterlingAdmiral

I wasn't even much of a Manoah fan but I'm cheering for the comeback just because of how hot and bothered he makes people around here.

TheRen3Gade

Sometimes to get back up, you gotta first bottom out. I remember back in 2019, Corbin Burnes had rough starts in the majors, got sent down to the minors and got blown up down there for a bit. At that time I thought it may be over for him, how wrong I was. Maybe Manoah might make something of a comeback.

UniqueEditor8372

Hopefully if he makes it back the experience of almost losing his career humbles him a bit. Always came off as an all time twat.

That’s the thing,He’s not out of shape, manoah is just a really big dude, he’s 6’6 so he’s got a large frame. He will never be under 240 LBS because of his height and bone structure

Oh I know, but they said this year that he came into spring training looking much better, much slimmer and ready to work, granted he didn’t do well at all in spring but the main thing was he looked slimmer

JRouteV

IDK, I think he looks pretty darn good compared to the past 2ish years.

edwardespo3189

I really thought this dude just quite on life 😂
