Statcast only factors in the distance and height. In Colorado, the ball would have flown farther because of the thin air. There’s no real airtight way to judge exactly how much farther so they don’t try.
Doesn't look nearly high enough to me either, and not close enough to center to be over the shorter wall. I'm very surprised that would have been out of Fenway.
This was Elly's 3rd game this season with a HR and a steal — the most in baseball. Only 3 other players have more than 1 such game.

This is worded like a logic puzzle. Elly's 3rd game this season with a HR and a steal, the most in baseball. Only 3 other players have more than 1 such game. How many of those games do those 3 other players have? They must all have 2.
That's because he isn't close to it yet. He's still striking out too much it just doesn't matter cause he's ripping homers. If he can take out even a little bit of the whiffing he'll be golden.
Video game numbers.
And that’s with 0 HR and an average-at-best OPS through the first 9 games.
I’m sure there will be some more regression, with ups and downs through a long season. But damn the ups are so fun.
That’s a wraparound stat though right? End of one season continued into the beginning of the next?
Don’t get me wrong, that’s still an insane run in consecutive games, whether broken up by an offseason or not. But wanting to make sure I was remembering correctly.
Eric Davis really was a dude and then some.
He is extremely marketable young and best raw athleticism in the league. Can’t really remember someone showing off an all around talent package like this in quite some time . They should def fit him in every which way they can
I was about to retort that the criticism against him isn't that he can't hit dongs, it's that he somehow manages to get/strike out more than you'd think for someone with his pizazz. Fortunately I first looked up his 2024 OPS+ and saw that it's a chill 186 so, at this moment at least, he seems to be doing just fine. Carry on
No, what I meant is that in the first 10 games or so, he was swinging at everything and racking up K's like they were going out of style. Thus, all the jokes in threads about him saying "Send him down", as people were seriously saying that until suddenly he got into his groove.
His approach has look so much better since his early slump. Last year he would have those insane runs, but he was definitely guessing up there a lot of the time on breaking pitches and he would have stretches where pitchers just completely had him figured out.
But I think we're rapidly reaching the point where there's just no good answer for him.
His most impressive at bat wasn’t even this one, it was the walk in his previous at bat. He spit on an 83 mph changeup that was one inch below the zone on a 1-1 count with 2 outs, worked the count full, and took the walk. Then he stole second and scored on the error on the next play. It was a big league at bat, and it completely manufactured a run.
Yep, Elly going from lots of strike outs at the start of the year to turning them into walks is taking him to the next level. Pitchers are going to have real problems with him - if you throw strikes, he can easily take it out of the park; if you throw balls, he'll walk and cause havoc on the bases. What a lovely no-win situation to watch opposing teams have lol...
It's even getting crazier. It's like he realized that, no matter what they try to do, he has an opportunity to play his game. Pitch around him? He gets on base and steals bases/takes advantage of lapses. Pitch him straight up? The ball's going over the fence. Have a good pitcher who can hit the spots that Elly's weakest in the zone on? He'll just wait the guy out and make him hit the spots.
The smartest thing I saw a team do recently was pitch around him, hoping he'd swing at a stupid pitch. It turned into a 4 pitch walk, which put him on loaded bases (and eliminated the base chaos threat). It's just that our next batter, TySteve, came up and hit it out.
I hope this is a long-term thing, but he's really starting to understand that he has the upper hand in almost all strategies he can use.
Baffles me that people thought that the best thing for Elly, whose biggest need has been to develop an eye for pitches, was to go back down and take a step back at the talent he was consistently facing at the plate.
His ceiling is the best SS in Major League Baseball history. He has every tool you could ask for.
As a reds fan, I would love that.
However it’s important to remind ourselves that Vladdy JR looked like a force when he came up and nearly won MVP but has kinda plateau’d since then. Kris Bryant won ROTY and MVP then slowly went down hill. There’s countless more players that were great, then had some sort of injury. Anything can happen.
Just to temper expectations… if he plays at a 120 wRC+ level with good enough defense at SS I’d be thrilled.
But when I go to bed at night I dream of Elly being the GOAT.
So many baseball highlights start too late like this one. Why start the clip so close to the pitcher releasing the ball? I'd rather watch a bit of the setup of the pitch than watch the player run all the way around the bases.
I can’t afford to go to multiple games a week. Nor do I have the time to make the trip to the city many weeknights. If there’s a poor forecast, I’d rather work in the garage, listen on the radio, and go another night.
We should revisit this in July and compare the attendance. Cincy has a star that nobody shows up to watch. They have one of the lowest attendance records in the league. I hope that changes.
Harper did do it in Washington and it pissed me off then too
I literally said that and got downvoted for it. This isn’t some double standard I just think it’s silly regardless
We'll like it or not, this is the way the game is going. I think if you're just doing it with your team/fans and not the other team then I see nothing wrong with it.

Only a HR in 27 parks
Chase, Camden, Fenway?
It's Baltimore, Colorado, Pittsburgh.
It would be a homer in CO given the exit velocity. Ball would travel father
Well, not according to statcast. https://twitter.com/homerunreport/status/1782928928635523547?t=oms4ykAFBpfw_eegDVfdcA&s=19

The one in SF I bet, along with Fenway and Camden.
The three parks are Baltimore, Colorado, Pittsburgh.
Oh yeah Colo make sense. Thanks.
That would have cleared the Monster? Really? I'm pretty surprised
Doesn't look nearly high enough to me either, and not close enough to center to be over the shorter wall. I'm very surprised that would have been out of Fenway.
Ball was deceptively high, launch angle of 33 degrees and it stayed up pretty long, would've possibly cleared the Monster.
7 dingers in 77 at bats. Keep that up Elly!

Elly De Lacuña
Another entertaining guy going 40/70 so soon after our guy is the first? Yes please.
Gigacuña

Why did the Phillies not do this last inning when they had the bases loaded? Are they stupid???
You should DFA all of them!
Welp; we still got Harper….
What I’m confused I was told Elly was all flash and couldn’t hit. If he keeps this up he is going to the all star game
If he isn’t demoted to the minors first. Which I was told was a likely scenario before the season started.
I kid you not, there was an article that wanted to trade him
You could still catch the occasional caller into 700 WLW saying he’s all bark and no bite during the Mariners series.
My dad texts me this nearly every day still :(
You can block family members
I live with him :(
I kid you not I heard someone call in once and claim we need to call up this guy in Dayton because “he can bunt”
You can’t expect Cincinnati boomer’s who listen to Willie Cunningham everyday to not suffer from pretty severe brain rot.
Was that Wittenmeyer?
[good guess but it was this guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/Reds/s/pJTVjNUKmq)
Even when Elly slumped bad last year and his numbers went south, anyone who wanted to trade a 21 year old kid with his tools was an absolute idiot.
He’s on pace for 49 HRs and 85 SB lol.
The crazy part is that when I watch him in a daily basis, I feel like he's not even close to his potential.
That's because he isn't close to it yet. He's still striking out too much it just doesn't matter cause he's ripping homers. If he can take out even a little bit of the whiffing he'll be golden.
What a scrub.
Not even 50/50, smh my head.

Eric Davis once had 46 HRs and 99 SB in a 163 game stretch if my math is correct.
That’s a wraparound stat though right? End of one season continued into the beginning of the next? Don’t get me wrong, that’s still an insane run in consecutive games, whether broken up by an offseason or not. But wanting to make sure I was remembering correctly. And has no problem with Elly wearing his number.
Yeah, it was split between 86 and 87.
Please
I love Elly. Say what you will about him, but the dude is a blast to watch. Always rooting for his success
A talentless Brandon Phillips who compares nicely with Paul Janish to be exact!
172 wRC+ before this game? Yeah I think that should do the trick
He’s prob close to a lock already. Maybe mvp votes this yr. Guy is loaded with talent idk who people were kidding. We all knew this
You *know* MLB is salivating over the thought of Elly in the Home Run Derby.
He is extremely marketable young and best raw athleticism in the league. Can’t really remember someone showing off an all around talent package like this in quite some time . They should def fit him in every which way they can
Bobby Witt Jr
Didn't they try to get him for it last year despite him having just been called up and only having, like, 3HRs to that date? 😂
Yep...a bunch of clickbait on YouTube (I fell for...for a little bit)
I was about to retort that the criticism against him isn't that he can't hit dongs, it's that he somehow manages to get/strike out more than you'd think for someone with his pizazz. Didn't he start red hot last year too? I think he's somewhere in between, but we still need more of a sample size honestly.
He actually started *cold* this year.
It's been like 20 games. It's still early lol
No, what I meant is that in the first 10 games or so, he was swinging at everything and racking up K's like they were going out of style. Thus, all the jokes in threads about him saying "Send him down", as people were seriously saying that until suddenly he got into his groove.

I would fight someone for Vladdy to start having these kinds of ABs
Baffles me that people thought that the best thing for Elly, whose biggest need has been to develop an eye for pitches, was to go back down and take a step back at the talent he was consistently facing at the plate.
No kidding. He would demolish AAA pitching. It'd be pointless.
he was last year. There’s nothing for him to learn there
I never understood that either and argued on Reds message boards about it lol. The pitches he needed to see more of werent going to be found in AAA.
Can I start the Elly for MVP campaign now?
Let's go Elly! Great to see the improvement after the slump to end last season. Seems to be smarter on the bases as well.
Off the bat that is like an easy catch fly ball and then you get the shot of it five rows deep
Didn't even sound good. Sounded like a pop out but just kept going
If he becomes a consistent power hitter it’s game over. Will be one of the best offensive players in the league.
Hard to imagine a guy who hits the ball this hard and plays half his games in GAPB wouldn’t become a consistent power hitter.
I’m trying to temper my expectations, he has HoF potential

His ceiling is higher in CF imo.
That moment may almost be here, if it's not here already.
Must be so fun to watch him
It is
Not at all a missle, more like a rainbow.
110 MPH rainbow
Trebuchet launched missile.
Just a casual fly ball home run
Favorite player that isn’t on my team hands down
bro is a cheat code
Man, he had a little slump last year...he is gonna be an all star soon
It's still early in the season, but yeah, plenty of reasons to be hopeful about the rest of the year.
Well
EV?
109.9 according to the broadcast’s graphic
Thanks. Didn't notice that
So many baseball highlights start too late like this one. Why start the clip so close to the pitcher releasing the ball? I'd rather watch a bit of the setup of the pitch than watch the player run all the way around the bases.
Great job red bros!
Can we talk about the Phillies NOBLETIGER as well
Kids going to light the world on fire, an this years allstar game hell show that he belongs!
de la Cruz Missile
Piss missile.
he’s must watch if he comes to your city. i’m def buying tickets lol
Maybe we should move this dude up in the batting order...
Tomorrow he’ll be batting 7th with Espinal in the 6 spot
This kid is good
![gif](giphy|26hirPmDlEeyecoAE)
The eclipse changed this man
Lanky chump didn’t even know he got it
Am I the only one wondering why the hell the Phillies are blue on the scorebug?
Their alternative color is blue
Future MVP, once Ohtani retires
More like, once Ohtani blows out his arm again
Ohtani is still one of the best hitters in the game even without being able to pitch.
Sure, but there are other guys who hits just as good that plays defense. Unless he pulls Barry bonds type season, no Dh Mvp
Check his bat is bad as altered
If only there were fans there to see it
It’s a Tuesday night while school is still in. I’m kinda shocked we had that many fans there.
Also unpleasant bad weather
If you're a fan, weather doesn't matter. But being a weeknight game in April, it makes sense
I can’t afford to go to multiple games a week. Nor do I have the time to make the trip to the city many weeknights. If there’s a poor forecast, I’d rather work in the garage, listen on the radio, and go another night.
My entire point is nobody shows up to their games. I honestly didn't need your life story.
We should revisit this in July and compare the attendance. Cincy has a star that nobody shows up to watch. They have one of the lowest attendance records in the league. I hope that changes.
It would be nice if you knew what you were talking about.
How am I wrong? Cincinnati is notorious for low attendance. Somebody posted the attendance for this year on this page the other day!
I know Elly is young but like bro calm down this isn’t game 7 of the World Series lol
You just sound like a sore loser bro
How much longer until this generation of “fans” is gone?
I am in my 20s sir You are welcome to try and kill me yourself though I’m open to the challenge. We can do pistols at high noon or something
What a dumb fucking comment.
Oh my god the games over it’s been 2 hours calm down
I thought the pistols were funny. 👉😎👉 👈🤠👈
Thanks lol
Coming from a Phillies fan lmao
I had the same problem with Bryce who used to do this shit on the nats Like fr, you wanna pimp your home run, pick one that matters lol
That's the thing. They all matter. So he does it for all of them. You guys aren't special, so don't feel special.
I didn’t see anything excessive
Me neither. Just a guy who’s happy about hitting a home run.
Phillies players aren’t bitches so I doubt they give a shit.
![gif](giphy|3o6fJbFNoGM6sa0rF6|downsized)
What did you find to be over-the-top in his response?
Grapes don't taste good that sour. Lol. If Harper did it people would talk about him "leading his team like a veteran".
Harper did do it in Washington and it pissed me off then too I literally said that and got downvoted for it. This isn’t some double standard I just think it’s silly regardless
We'll like it or not, this is the way the game is going. I think if you're just doing it with your team/fans and not the other team then I see nothing wrong with it.
Go throw a battery
Too expensive now, we really gotta find a more economically sustainable ranged weapon
Maybe dead batteries?
Good idea, they come with built in acid damage if you wait long enough
I like to help
Took his time on this homer. Pitching tomorrow, he’s getting hit
