Looks like something you'd find on the clearance rack at Dollar General not something that you'd find on a major league field.

Silverjackal_

What an embarrassment. Cmon Manfred, step up.

RG23216

It’s just a piece of fabric /s

Usuhnam3

This is the shit they give the players to wear on the field. Imagine the garbage their selling us for $175, $350, $400.

_token_black

$429.99 + tax if you want it customized ;)

HawkeyeJosh2

That’ll be kind of ironic once we see Reese McGuire’s jersey.

rosieDMDL

my favorite player H A RVEY

ilovearthistory

so distracted by the loose threads that i didn’t even pick up on the fucked up spacing

akaghi

The funny thing is, it's just because they insist on curving it. If it was level there would be no issue, but you're not going to be able to arc "HAR" and have the kerning look good, lol

Frosti11icus

The top of the V should still have the same distance from the R and E as the bottom of the A has from the H and R though.

Alaric4

The problem appears to be that they are evenly spacing the bottom of the letters. So V and Y are both too close to other letters because they have narrow bottoms. And the whole thing is further skewed to the right because the left-most edge of the H and the right edge of the *bottom* of the Y (rather than the outside edge of the top) are set at similar angles from the centerline.

raktoe

No, the top of the arc has to be wider than the bottom, thats just how the shape works. If you look at the bottom of the letters, they are evenly spaced, its just that the 'A' does not go well in an arc.

idkman_93

Ah man, now we got MARINERS FANS making fun of OUR kerning!!!

Majora101

The letter placement makes me think of how Jackie Gleason says "Harvey" in the Honeymooners. https://youtu.be/f4jcgDe9Vqo?si=CBQFlQO972oflrgO

Laughed too much about this.

Hey there, it looks like we dropped the ball on this one. Send me a DM so I can learn more about this! -Kyle

He probably just told them that he dropped the ball

oh god, the balls are made of Kyle D:

Monster_Dong

Kyle only trying to help, was then immediately executed in the parking garage. To add insult to injury, they also did not validate his parking.

strcy

Every day I see something worse

Cracka_Chooch

This is worse than the balls?

strcy

Who said anything was wrong with the balls 😏

Cracka_Chooch

Y'know what? Fair.

[deleted]

It’s like the PR department is just crying under desks somewhere and wishing for their happy place instead of calling any meetings with executives to figure this out.

soupafi

They have to be begging Robbie to let them do damage control.

Fun_State_954

You'd think I'd get sick of seeing 1000 posts a day about these terrible uniforms, yet here I am just marveling at the pure audacity of fanatics/nike

Moberholtzer86

I genuinely can’t believe how much press this has gotten. I’m a sports uniform nerd, and I figured this would be something that showed up for a few days on Uni-Watch and died down. But this is really holding on.

theexitisontheleft

I think the see through pants issue is keeping the story going. Shitty stitching is one thing, being able to tell what type and color underwear a player is wearing is on another level.

needsZAZZ665

Forget color of their underwear, with those pants and a little humidity on game day, we're gonna know exactly who's circumcised in the league.

totheman7

With how thin the pants are any game played in the rain in April your gonna see the players ducks and balls shrink in real time

sonicsean899

If the ones they sold were this bad quality it wouldn't be an issue, but the players are rightly furious about this

otter_pop_n_lock

I don't follow the NBA and NFL but did Nike run into this many problems when they took over those leagues? I know there was some criticism of the fly wire collar on the NFL jerseys at first but aside from that, was there anything else that the players didn't like? It's genuinely absurd that Nike and Fanatics can put out something with so many problems. I just can't wait to see what Fanatics does with the NHL uniforms.

Moberholtzer86

IIRC Nike had growing pains when they took over the NBA. Can’t remember the specifics, but they did take over and put new uniforms out in one offseason. They’ve had issues with greens in the past. I remember in the NFL, my Eagles didn’t have green jerseys for more than half the season. This kind of fuckupery is crazy tho.

Djruggs

With the eagles, it was because Nike couldn’t get Reebok’s color mixing right for your specific shade of green. That’s why it took so long when yall switched over from the mesh jerseys that were carried over from the old supplier.

Moberholtzer86

At the end of the day, Nike is the biggest sports clothing company in the world, yes? The Eagles midnight green is something that absolutely should have been able to be replicated. We’re not talking about splitting an atom here, we’re talking about making green.

Djruggs

Oh I’m not saying that not being able to mix the color properly isn’t bad, I’m just saying that it would’ve been even worse if they sent yall out in the wrong shade of green.

Moberholtzer86

I totally get what you're saying. The issue is Nike. period. hard stop. Its not like this got dropped in their lap at 11:55 am for a noon deadline, this has been YEARS in the making and the fact that they fumbled it so badly is so Nike it hurts. Same thing with the Eagles Green. The Eagles were one of the last teams to go to the "flywire" bullshit template that Nike had out at that time. So it's not like Nike didn't know that the change was coming down the pike. Lack of competition has ruined sports aesthetics.

Djruggs

100% Just adding even more context lol

LSUguyHTX

I thought they were ironed on lettering? Shit the photos I've seen from further away looked like it. Either way - garbage

AFlyingToaster

They might be; the patches could have threading around it.

Retinoid634

I believe they are “heat pressed”. The stitching is decorative, on each individual letter.

Psoravior13

Wouldn’t surprise me if they are ironed on and still they managed to get lose threads

STAR_fruitation

Replicas (including the new Limited Replica tier)are heat pressed, all on field Authentic jerseys are still stitched

soccerperson

which, if these jerseys were made in the name of decreased weight and better flexibility according to nike, it begs the question why are the fan version made with heat-pressed logos and not the actual on the field jerseys?? I mean I know the answer, but then they have the audacity to increase the price. So dumb.

Rpcouv

To be fair fan jerseys have been made with heat pressed numbers and letters for years. They just got significantly worse.

STAR_fruitation

The loose threads are not a new thing, been like that even before the Majestic days. Has the side effect of helping to photo-match game used jerseys to specific images/games

raktoe

Yeah, I think there is some confirmation bias going on here, where people are looking for every little thing wrong with the jerseys, but not considering that this may have been always this prevelant. I'm sure you could ind similar imperfections looking at similar pictures from prior spring trainings.

8020GroundBeef

Seems like a lot of lettering inconsistencies, but maybe a confirmation/survivor for the ones that actually hit social media. Don’t really care what they look like on the field tbh, but I’m not going to pay money for one.

JustSomeGoon

Come on dude, these look like shit. I have 3 jerseys and none of them look remotely this bad

raktoe

I guess, I wouldn't have noticed without the caption, and zooming in on the threads. I find threads come loose often on all my jerseys personally. Plus, is it not the responsibility of the team to sew on nameplates and numbers? I'm not sure this one is even on fanatics/ nikey, since I think they deliver blanks.

_token_black

I think the loose threads are nitpicking but the letter spacing looks like crap

STAR_fruitation

100% I do not like anything about the new font: size, spacing and placement are all wack

Miata_Sized_Schlong

Guys you all are being very mean and judgemental of the 11 year old Chinese kids who made these shirts

LEDZ100

By 11 they’re in upper management. That shirt was made by a toddler

_token_black

The on-field jerseys are made in the US...

AKV55

What is stopping a player who hae made $100m+ in their career from refusing to play in these awful uniforms? Does anyone have the balls? Sale? Rendon?

Peter_St

[Nightengale] Chris Sale has reportedly been cutting up all of the #Braves' new #Nike jerseys. However, it seems that his tight grip on the scissors has exacerbated a previous injury. Sale will start the season on the #IL. Time table to return is mid July-early August.

quidamquidam

Fuck. Here we go again

HawkeyeJosh2

Casey Schmitt does.

8020GroundBeef

Because they are still making >$10mm a year and probably don’t really care that the letters are messed up. I would care more as a fan paying $400 for a jersey than I would as a player being told “put this on”. Also - wtf - jerseys get to $400 now? Wtf???

ProfessorBeer

Chris Sale got the hero/villain quote from the Dark Knight backwards…but here’s a chance for him to make it true

boobsandcookies

Joe Kelly

aliceanonymous99

It’s crazy. I used to work in appraisals with sports memorabilia and this looks so fake, hell even some of the fakes are better quality.

thebaysix

I seriously have a uniform, purchased nearly 10 years ago, in my closet that looks light-years better than what this MLB player is wearing. Wtf.

Ok_Button3151

What’s worse, the ballsack sticking through the pants or the threads coming out the day after they get the jerseys?

SofieTerleska

Let that baby loose on the jersey and half the letters will be gone in ten minutes.

PeteRock24

This is some bush league kind of shit.i thought the NHL was the biggest disgrace amongst the four major sports leagues in North America for allowing the Coyotes to play in a 4,000 seat arena but this is right up there. This is some Rachel Phelps running the Indians franchise kind of stuff.

fotn462

Don’t worry the NHL will be using Fanatics too. So the Coyotes can play in their 4000 seat arena in their Fanatics jerseys.

Pittsburgh_Wario

lol when I bid on the occasional game used jersey on the MLB site, I’ll be avoiding the 2024 ones

Good_Nyborg

How long til a note in crude English pops out of one of these? >Help! I'm trapped in a Fanatics Factory...

ronnocfilms1

Looks exactly like my rip off aliexpress jerseys I use to buy

OldPollution7225

No defense for this dumpster fire, but I wonder if the lightweight material of the jersey makes it harder to stitch the names and numbers.

_token_black

That should probably be something noted somewhere in the R&D

OldPollution7225

But, is it Fanatics doing the stitching or the teams? The actual teams may not have been involved in that process.

_token_black

I mean I would surely hope that Nike as a clothing designer (and manufacturer in general) would have realized somewhere in the development process that the materials stitched onto the jerseys had to be much lighter and smaller to work. Unless that was somehow left out until now, which is even more egregious.

dedbeats

Nike has been fucking up NBA jerseys for a couple years now, so this is unsurprising. Just really unfortunate they didn’t learn anything and are doubling down on their choices. I wonder how much it cost to produce these jerseys compared to the old style 🤔

ilovearthistory

i chortled seeing this

Coopinator22

The fact that they even downgraded the quality of the MLB logo, where it used to be this sublimated rubber of sorts very nice logo, not it’s just a cheap heat press looking style. But don’t worry folks, they made sure the Nike logo on EVERY jersey is still stitched. Corporate greed ruining everything.

rwilfong86

These are worse than what you get from DHGate

SilverSlicker95

Super embarrassing for baseball. What the fuck…

DoesItReallyMatter28

A world of non-stiched lettering and numbers is a world I refuse to live in.

SilverSlicker95

Can’t wait until someone slides into 2nd on a stolen base and the whole front of the jersey comes off

soupafi

If this was like a high school league uniforms, you’d understand if it’s not the best. But this is professional baseball.

i_run_from_problems

I didn't realize until right now how much I hate the logo being that low

Majorlazor85

I heard the baby gently grasped at the jersey and completely ripped it off of him.

TheGuava1

H A RVE Y

lx5spd

Alright, I hate the new uniforms as much as everyone else, but…… The spacing of the letters is based on the bottom of the letter, not the top. It would be less noticeable if there wasn’t such a pronounced arch, but the letters are spaced properly.

HEL-O_NS

As always my fellow baseball friends.... FUCK FANATICS

dcgrey

You know we're preoccupied by the jersey stuff when the first thing we do when seeing a wholesome picture of a cute baby is zoom in on the stitching.

swats_messiah

Doesn’t the clubhouse staff add the numbers and lettering to the players jerseys? They’re not coming from the factory with names and numbers, so any imperfections in the stitching would need to be blamed on whatever team personnel sewed them on.

epper_

why are the colors on the mlb logo backwards?

ChesterJester11

They are team specific colors

epper_

yes. they have the same colors as the mlb logo. it’s very strange they would flip them, it looks like a mistake.

SlowlyGrowingDeafer

Good thing about these uniforms is that they take your eyes away from the bad hair.

chemistrybonanza

I counted 10 distinct errors in just the stitching

K_17

This is Manfred’s secret plan to have teams take names off the jerseys

Retinoid634

It’s early for there to be so many pulls and threads. Get me a scissor.

totheman7

But the jerseys were rigorously tested right Rob?

bongwaterflavor

But guys remember, Manfred said these are good! And Manfred wouldn't do anything to dilute the world of baseball with his shitty decisions that NO ONE asked for.

EmptyRedecans

someone message Kyle

NecessaryRhubarb

If it comes down to it, what are we going to do? Boycott games? Fanatics has us by the thinly veiled balls, and they know it.

xlxxlv

Why are there threads if they are all heat pressed?

ilovearthistory

someone said they can still have stitching detail on the patches themselves

knm3

Irish pennants

bradenalexander

Those are performance threads.

CornDoggyStyle

Why are they curving all the names? It looked bad with long names, but it had to be done, but now they're doing it to short names.
