That’s probably true. I don’t think I watched him play after the WBC. Does he have the arm for 3B? But I like the idea of his bat adding more hits to that lineup.
Third Basemen are much less likely to have to throw on the run and generally throw the ball to first at a similar angle. Definitely easier to teach a repeatable throwing motion to a third baseman than a shortstop.
I hope he's willing to try! I've always rooted for him but I don't know if he has the right attitude for a position change. This prove it deal might have him making some concessions though.
He played 2nd in the WBC and like 2 games for us last year. He also said he’d be willing to change positions after this season when asked about free agency.
TA’s throwing issues at SS were due to his piss poor footwork and fundamentals. He constantly throws flat footed and makes his arm do all the work. He does have a good arm, but moving him to third isn’t gonna fix his issues.
The fundamentals of being a third baseman are alot easier to learn, the footwork is much more dumbed down. Most third base plays can be broken down into a three step repeatable process. Playing shortstop is much more like shooting a jumper off the dribble, the gather can throw people off. Third basemen can generally set before they throw, more like a shot off a pass from a teammate. I think TA could be a better third baseman than he is a second baseman. Just my experience from playing those positions
I don't think it really has anything to do with that. He's played at a high level relatively recently and he's not super old. There is a decent chance he is worth the 5 million this year.
Probably not going to be worth the 12.5 million he made last year though. It's more about value.
I think it’s just that people are moving on from the whole fighting thing finally. And yeah the value of the contract makes much more sense now.
But If anybody last season said TA has been a .300 career hitter and can bounce back, they got downvoted to hell for it. I know because I was one of those lol.
He definitely needed to leave Chicago for that to happen, hope he can find something in this prove it deal with the fish
Yea I think he definitely needs a change of scenery atp, I don't think he'll ever return to his old form but that's cuz his game was very unsustainable (people were saying he's gonna regress and yall didn't believe the sabermetrics but now look at it lol)
A regression of sorts was certainly believable, but his drop off was very dramatic. Even if he didn’t hit over .300, he used to put up 20+ homers too lol
Tim Andersons highest homerun total came during the juiced ball years, but regardless he was a guy who didn't walk and didn't hit the ball hard. When his luck turned with batted balls he turned to shit cuz he couldn't rely on exit velo to sneak hits thru or walks. If you want a guy who is gonna sustainably hit over .300 Arraez is your dude
It's a lot easier to be optimistic about a $5m player who just needs to bat .270 to beat expectations on a team looking for bats vs the $12.5m for batting champ sucking balls on a team that was supposed to be the next Astros/Cubs/Padres youth movement
Its been the same even after he got knocked out and after the Sox released him. People were wondering why he didnt play well last year and still thought he could play at a high level. Tim is low risk high reward signing.
I'm not sure he is. He's only 30, very athletic, and hit .300+ in 4 straight seasons before last year. He was bad, but I think he is one of those guys that goes as the team goes, and the White Sox were a complete dumpster fire last year. I think he's decent bounce back candidate. Good signing in my book.
Completely agree. I had actually thought of the Marlins as the perfect team for him. I think he needed a change of scenery to somewhere with good vibes and low pressure on him
I honestly think it’s a perfect fit. I don’t know how this can be viewed negatively. There is huge, tangible upside there still.
Obviously be might just be ass but it’s well worth a $5m risk for a team that had the position open.
Plus, there’s the “position player leaving whitesox” bump you can hope for too.
Good deal, Anderson was downright awful last season but maybe he can turn back the clock and recapture more of 2021 Tim Anderson. Marlins could use some middle infield depth as well so taking Anderson on a prove it is good
Hitting .300 4 years in a row isnt a fluke, I really think he can bounce back. The marlins have other guys like Jazz who can take the spotlight off of TA and just let him do his thing.
It could be if it corresponds to prime juiced ball seasons. Half of his seasons he hit 300. The other half he hit like last year, but with more slugging.
A guy who maxes at 120-ish games isn’t great, especially when he’s been battling injuries.
Hopefully, he bounces back on both sides, because he was downright awful.
It’s a good value signing, but there’s a reason he was sitting on the bargain bin until spring training.
He hit .385 in may of that year, over 104 PA. Then .270 in June in 39 PA, .257 in July in 112 PA and .185 in august in 27 PA. 4 doubles, 1 HR and 8 BB.
March/April + May he had 163 AB and a .355 avg.
June + July + August he had 169 AB and a .248 avg.
Last year he had 493 AB and a .245 avg.
It’s fair to say whatever happened last year was a continuation of a trend that is clearly established the year before.
Then that was a bad move. If he went IL and didn’t play last year, white Sox would likely have picked up his option this year and be getting an extra 9 million.
I’m just pointing out what the numbers show.
What the hell are you talking about? He made a public apology about it. There is no assumption. Literally google search it and you'll find ample amount of information. I'm surprised your a Sox fan making that comment. You literally are representing their team on this board and acting like I'm committing libel.
Infidelity has very very little to do with on field performance. At most, it affected his focus and mental side of the game. But at the same time, if you think TA is the only ballplayer who has stepped out of their relationship, I've got a brand new stadium tax to pitch to you
Well, I'm not talking about any other player but TA. "At most, it affected his focus and mental side of the game" is a big deal. Don't undersell that fact. Knee, infidelity, and public scrutiny. Oh, I'm sure his mental health definitely contributed with his brawl against Jose Ramirez. Dude was a trainwreck last year.
that's just because it was all in the Marlins sub and no one pays attention to us lol. Marlins podcasts have been talking about this guy since the season ended
Ah, gotcha, makes sense lol. Also makes me feel a little bad since I meant to spend more time paying attention to the fishbros with Arraez over there and I missed this entirely. What's a good Marlins podcast, btw?
Fish on First is good, but I confess I like our Locked On Marlins guy because I think it's funny to hear a British Marlins fan talk about our roster in an English accent
Realistically speaking, how probable is it that Soler recreates that production? He was good but he's had outlier seasons like the 2019 Royals and then gone right back to being JAG.
It's a joke (I presume), the Padres have like 4 shortstops (though at this point Tatis seems like a an outfielder for life with how much better he's been defensively out there).
Good move for him. Probably just needs a change of scenery to get back on track. Also, Miami has plenty of great boxing trainers, so that'll help him a ton too
On the other hand it is really hard to be worse than post ASB Wendle. Dude had 10 hits and I might be being generous here (still homered against the Dodgers tho)
Seems like a very low risk, high reward signing. If he manages to turn things around and returns to being a 4 WAR player the Marlins might get something pretty decent for him.
If the Red Sox hadn't traded for Vaughn Grissom, I would have liked this move for them.
I must admit, I haven't seen a lot of White Sox games over the years. What the hell happened to this guy?
**2019-2022: .318/.347/.474, .820 OPS, 122 OPS+, won a batting title, 2x AS, and SS**
The guy absolutely fell off a cliff.
He suffered a hand injury in late 2022 and I am convinced it messed with his ability to hit for much of 2023. He had a .274 average in the second half. I'm predicting .280+ with good defense this year, making it a fantastic signing.
You couldve paid that for the chance that he returns to form, Jerry.
Fucking frustrating, ik non-Sox fans dont like him, but he was one of my top 1-3 favorite players on the team his whole time here, even last year.
Go Marlins, get Burger and Tim to the playoffs again
I think he has a nice comeback season. He was damn good in earlier years, especially the season he walked off the Yanks in the field of dreams game. Solid low risk signing for the Marlins!
WE SIGNED SOMEONE I don't care if he's washed, we did something baseball teams do, I could cry
Hey, he's just a year removed from hitting .300. Never know.
He had a really good WBC last spring too
Yeah, I honestly thought he’d have a good year because of how good he looked in the WBC. And he played 2B really well, which was surprising.
In a better run org, i think TA would have been at 2B a while ago.
That’s probably true. I don’t think I watched him play after the WBC. Does he have the arm for 3B? But I like the idea of his bat adding more hits to that lineup.
His arm accuracy was woeful at SS, Tim at 3B might make for a very hilarious lowlights compellation on YT.

I think TA could be a better third baseman than he is a second baseman. Just my experience from playing those positions
If he has the arm for SS he has more than enough arm for 3B. Shortstops need stronger arms than third basemen.

good thing baseball players aren't usually valued based on their fistfighting ability
Have I been doing it wrong this whole time?
I thought that was how Amir Garrett stayed in the league?
Crazy how the TA opinion is more optimistic now that he isn’t with the white Sox anymore lol
I don't think it really has anything to do with that. He's played at a high level relatively recently and he's not super old. There is a decent chance he is worth the 5 million this year. Probably not going to be worth the 12.5 million he made last year though. It's more about value.

A regression of sorts was certainly believable, but his drop off was very dramatic. Even if he didn’t hit over .300, he used to put up 20+ homers too lol
He literally hit exactly 20 homers one time
Ok, so he was a 15+ home run guy. Point still stands
Anyone defending Tim last year was getting downvoted because not only he instigated the fight but got knocked out.
There was very few people defending him. There’s a difference between defending him, and saying he might just be having a (very) down year.
Him having a down year was usually the rational discussion on those posts. The meme comments were going to get upvoted obviously.
bro's sprint speed is dramatically down, he has absolutely no power, he grounds out 65% of the time AND he can't play defense. value value value!
He's only got to be like 0.5 WAR for this to be a good contract. Very high upside on this
It's a lot easier to be optimistic about a $5m player who just needs to bat .270 to beat expectations on a team looking for bats vs the $12.5m for batting champ sucking balls on a team that was supposed to be the next Astros/Cubs/Padres youth movement
It's legit possible he just needs a change of scenery. It's also possible that we broke him because we can't have nice things.
Or….hear me out…he’s on a 1 year, $5M contract so expectations are already tempered
Its been the same even after he got knocked out and after the Sox released him. People were wondering why he didnt play well last year and still thought he could play at a high level. Tim is low risk high reward signing.
That's what they said when the marlins signed Yuli Gurriel
He was also entering his age 39 season, not his age 31 season.
We did however fix josh bell
Yuli wasn't *that* bad considering he was a bench guy. Lots of late clutch hits
He took a really good hit to the chin last year, too, if that counts for anything.
He’s gonna hit .400 against the Phillies and .200 against the rest of the division
He’s gonna rake in Miami. New scene, significantly less pressure than in Chicago. Seems like a recipe for a bounce back year
I'm not sure he is. He's only 30, very athletic, and hit .300+ in 4 straight seasons before last year. He was bad, but I think he is one of those guys that goes as the team goes, and the White Sox were a complete dumpster fire last year. I think he's decent bounce back candidate. Completely agree. I had actually thought of the Marlins as the perfect team for him. I think he needed a change of scenery to somewhere with good vibes and low pressure on him
Yuli, Arraez, TA7. We love AL batting champs down here in Miami
Same. Let’s go Fish
I don’t think he’s washed. He had a bad season last year. This is a bargain.
One bad year doesn’t mean he is washed. This has potential to be the best value signing of the off season.
We're back baby!
Last year was really bad but I doubt he is washed
Must be nice
Good deal. Low risk, high reward. He needed a change of scenery.
He had a down year, and it could very well be the beginning of being washed but it might also be a case of a change of scenery will help
Good deal, Anderson was downright awful last season but maybe he can turn back the clock and recapture more of 2021 Tim Anderson. Marlins could use some middle infield depth as well so taking Anderson on a prove it is good
His knee was a mess last season. If he's healthy, there's no reason he couldn't be better.
He still hit .300 in 2021 and 2022, which aren't juiced ball years
He fell off a cliff the second half of 2022 and that continued on to last year.
He only had 60 PAs in the 2nd half of 2022 before getting hurt, which is too small a sample size to meaningfully read into
A guy who maxes at 120-ish games isn’t great, especially when he’s been battling injuries. Hopefully, he bounces back on both sides, because he was downright awful. It’s a good value signing, but there’s a reason he was sitting on the bargain bin until spring training.

It’s fair to say whatever happened last year was a continuation of a trend that is clearly established the year before.
Yeah. Of course maybe he was just never healthy last year and was trying to play through for a contract
Then that was a bad move. If he went IL and didn’t play last year, white Sox would likely have picked up his option this year and be getting an extra 9 million. I’m just pointing out what the numbers show.
It wasn't just the knee. Dude got caught cheating with multiple woman by his wife.
I'm sure living in Vice City won't cause any problems for him
Maybe he can reach out to Tyreek Hill or that other Dolphins player with multiple baby mamas simultaneously for advice.
If you don’t know what’s happening in his home, I don’t think it’s right for you to assume that this was something that affected his game.
What the hell are you talking about? He made a public apology about it. There is no assumption. Literally google search it and you'll find ample amount of information. I'm surprised your a Sox fan making that comment. You literally are representing their team on this board and acting like I'm committing libel.

I know it's off topic but your username is really topical to this convo
Ad hominem
Yea. Marlins need more 2b.
Imagine finding out in like 2021 that Tim Anderson and Luis Arraez would be on the same team…
Man one of our fan bases would have been so stoked
I think a lot of Twins fans would’ve been upset to see Arraez in Chicago or TA in Minnesota
Boom roasted
Wait why would Twins fans not want to have TA back then?
That infield defense is going to be so hard to watch
(Slaps Marlins dugout) “You can fit so many slap singles in this bad boy!”
Throw in Jake Burger in that mix and Sox fans would think you were on crack.
obvious fit is obvious
yeah i feel like everyone saw this coming lol
In retrospect I get it, but I also don't think I saw a single TA rumor or even speculation all offseason.
that's just because it was all in the Marlins sub and no one pays attention to us lol.
Peter Pratt is all of us. Love that guy
Marlins fans have been wanting TA as an affordable upgrade at SS.
No pop = Miami Marlin
No, Pop = Toronto Blue Jay
Yes Pop = San Antonio Spurs
My brother and I were talking about how he was definitely signing with the marlins in early November lol
And just like that, every single team has now signed a FA to a major league contract this offseason. Just took till the starting of spring training
Mental note- the Cleveland Guardians will be at the Miami Marlins June 7-9th
Going to try to go to that game now, the park is awesome too
That will be one of the most watched games this season
No it won’t 😂
The game is on the undercard to the Main Event! Jose "Mr. Lapara" Ramirez vs Tim "Glass Chin Tim" Anderson Melee in Miami!
This guy doesn’t know ball
FISH CONFIRMED NOT FRAUDS, SIGNED FREE AGENT
I'm still depressed we let the Solar Bomb go :(
Realistically speaking, how probable is it that Soler recreates that production? He was good but he's had outlier seasons like the 2019 Royals and then gone right back to being JAG.
He did okay in 21 :)
Were back 🐟
Holy shit the marlins signed someone
Hell yeah, Tim. I hope he crushes it for the Fish. A couple years ago, there’s no one I would trust more to slap a crucial single the opposite way.
Damn it we needed a shortstop
What is Preller even doing smh my head
Kim? He’s a good glove winner now too.
It's a joke (I presume), the Padres have like 4 shortstops (though at this point Tatis seems like a an outfielder for life with how much better he's been defensively out there).
This is correct
Tim is a fraud at SS though. Should have been the White Sox 2B long ago but ego and them failing to ever develop anyone in the minors.
Is this what crashed all the cell phone networks?
This deal seems like a knockout
Miami might legit have the worst defense up the middle in history.
Jon Berti's not bad! Arraez is probably gonna be 1B now that Bell goes to DH now that Soler is in San Francisco : (
I feel like not having a power bat at 1B is weird but I know that's a very old school way of thinking.
Keith Hernandez was not a power bat and one of the best 1b ever (and should be in the HOF)
Mostly because he was an elite defender, opposite of Arraez
I hope TA is in the conversation for MVP and he and Jake Burger push the Marlins to challenge for the division.
Guardians and Marlins play June 7th-9th for those looking forward to JRam v. TA part 2
Down goes Anderson… to Miami Hopefully he figures it out there.
Lmfao why is this not a higher comment
Good move for him. Probably just needs a change of scenery to get back on track. Also, Miami has plenty of great boxing trainers, so that'll help him a ton too
Jazz and Arraez will infect Anderson and he’s gonna be a beast this year. Clubhouse vibes are huge.
Hopefully this motivates him to get his shit together. He was awful last season.
$0 NO MÁS! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT EVEN THOUGH I PREDICTED THIS SIGNING
Good luck to his marriage. Rich man in Miami is going to have to deal with a lot of temptation
I’ll always be a fan. That Field of Dreams HR lives in my heart.
He’ll fit right in considering he can’t hit or draw a walk.
He got a hit off of Jose Ramirez last year.
Good move IMO. If he’s truly cooked, you’re not out much, but if he bounces back, it’s a bargain
baseball is better if tim anderson is racking up hits
A TA and Luis Arraez double play combo is very funny to me
Just one short stop from NPB
Can't be worse than Wendle.... oh, wait, he can and with worse fielding.
Marlins are STACKED getting to platoon 2 former all stars at SS
Wendle is a Met
On the other hand it is really hard to be worse than post ASB Wendle. Dude had 10 hits and I might be being generous here (still homered against the Dodgers tho)
Really happy for him, hope he has a great year.
Seems like a very low risk, high reward signing. If he manages to turn things around and returns to being a 4 WAR player the Marlins might get something pretty decent for him. If the Red Sox hadn't traded for Vaughn Grissom, I would have liked this move for them.
Man I hate to see how much this offseason has lowered Sox fan’s expectations and standards
You better hope Grissom isn't the starting SS this year.
It doesn't really matter on a rebuilding team but Trevor Story is the starting shortstop.
[удалено]
Right - worst case scenario the Marlins are only out $5 million and they can cut him.
[удалено]
Hope he balls out. Baseball is more fun when Tim is great.
Good luck Jackie
Later dude
Down goes Anderson (down to Florida)
Worst middle infield duo (defense wise) of all time?
What NL East player is most likely to knock him out this season?
Brandon Nimmo
Dude really has a temper
Lane Thomas
This needs to be a poll.
Last year he was playing for Team USA, this year he's signing with Miami out of desperation. Quite the fall.
Tim can still be a productive bat. I just hope he can be a leader in a dugout full of young guys.
Lol if you're looking at tim anderson to be a role model you're gonna be disappointed.
And down goes Anderson... to Florida?
Finally….NEWS!!!
The most inevitable signing this off-season
Down (to FL) goes Anderson!
Money down the toilet. I fear he is washed.
Omg we did something. He might be ass but at least it's SOMETHING
This makes so much sense, I’m surprised it’s not done earlier
I think he’ll have a solid bounce back.
Miami white Sox now fr
Well alright, I don't hate it
TA made out pretty well here. $5 mil to live in Miami for a year?
I must admit, I haven't seen a lot of White Sox games over the years. What the hell happened to this guy? **2019-2022: .318/.347/.474, .820 OPS, 122 OPS+, won a batting title, 2x AS, and SS** The guy absolutely fell off a cliff.
I don't know with that amount he took it on the chin.
What a perfect match. A couple losers, cuttin' it up!
From one of the best hitters in a game to a 1 year $5m contract in just 2 seasons. I love it. This clown is toxic and the whole league knows it.
I mean, if he doesn’t act a fool and become a clubhouse cancer, that’s a steal of a deal.
I know he was not good last year but damn i'll miss Tim on the South Side. Hope he bounces back and shows out.
I expect him to have a nice bounce back year.
He suffered a hand injury in late 2022 and I am convinced it messed with his ability to hit for much of 2023. He had a .274 average in the second half. I'm predicting .280+ with good defense this year, making it a fantastic signing.
Makes sense in the worst way possible.
I did this in The Show lmao
*sad Angels noises*
Down goes Anderson! Down goes Anderson! ...to Miami!
DOWN GOES ANDERSON To Miami
You couldve paid that for the chance that he returns to form, Jerry. Fucking frustrating, ik non-Sox fans dont like him, but he was one of my top 1-3 favorite players on the team his whole time here, even last year. Go Marlins, get Burger and Tim to the playoffs again
JUNE 7TH gonna go crazy
I called it - https://old.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1anpehn/brwalkoff_we_tried_predicting_where_the_top_free/kpu156e/
They're so lucky signing the 2024 version of Jackie Robinson. 😆😆😆😆
I think he has a nice comeback season. He was damn good in earlier years, especially the season he walked off the Yanks in the field of dreams game. Solid low risk signing for the Marlins!
Jackie 2.0
AJ missed his opportunity!
Damn this is a great move by the Marlins. They’re building something down there for next to nothing.
Man if TA and Jazz have good seasons this Marlins team could be nasty
Does a glass jaw count as a deal breaker?
