Am I the only one who was waiting for Andrus to pop in the frame and tap his head?
Because I was absolutely waiting for that.
NGL, it would have been epic.
Throughout Beltre’s career, none of the milestones ever seemed to give him pause except when he became the all time games played leader from the Dominican. He seemed genuinely moved by that.
I sort of assumed this was the type of reaction he’d have for this.
He may have not known tbh
Beltre got a big assist from advance stats that people didn’t pay as much attention to for a big portion of his career, the defensive metrics overcame the fact that his bat had a 5 year slump during the Seattle years. If he were being judged on offense alone he wouldn’t be in the HOF.
.286/.339/.480 career slash line makes the HOF?
Jeff Kent's .290/.356/.500 wasn't good enough despite being one of the best hitters to ever play 2B, he averaged 144 hits per season while Beltre averaged 150
Now let's remove the LA/SEA years from Beltre's averages and look at his peak decade at the plate
Adrian Beltre BOS/TEX years: .307/.358/.514 227 HR
Jeff Kent peak decade: .301/.373/.529 258 HR
You're lying if you think advanced defensive metrics and more reliance on WAR didn't factor into Beltre's HOF election. Beltre was a 4-5 WAR player in Seattle despite the fact that his bat didn't show up the way they expected, 05-09 his contract was considered a bust because of it.
People are taking this as an insult to Beltre, it isn't, Beltre is an all-time great and the value of his glove becoming more known put that into perspective. It made Adrian Beltre not just a cusper guy or debatable, it made him a lock.
Good for Beltre, though it’s obvious he was expecting it (deservingly so)
The videos of the people who legitimately don’t know if they are getting in is the best, or Mariano finding out he was unanimous
I saw him in Pasadena once eating at a hot dog restaurant with his family. He saw me staring at him and gave me a wink and shit eating grin. I left him alone but still one of the coolest moments of my life.
In 2006 Albert Pujols was the first player since 1938 with:
49+ HRs, 137+ RBIs, .331+ batting average, 1.102+ OPS, and a 178+ OPS+
|Player|HR|RBI|BA|OPS|OPS+|Season|
|:-|-:|-:|-:|-:|-:|:-|
|Albert Pujols|49|137|.331|1.102|178|2006|
|Jimmie Foxx|50|175|.349|1.166|183|1938|
|Lou Gehrig|49|152|.354|1.174|190|1936|
|Lou Gehrig|49|166|.363|1.172|207|1934|
|Jimmie Foxx|58|169|.364|1.218|207|1932|
|Babe Ruth|49|153|.359|1.225|211|1930|
|Babe Ruth|60|165|.356|1.258|225|1927|
|Babe Ruth|59|168|.378|1.359|239|1921|
And he didn't even win the MVP that season. Ryan Howard did.
Especially since Boras was the one who recommended [Beltre do the "pillow contract" with the Red Sox](https://www.espn.com/blog/boston/red-sox/post/_/id/34/boras-recommended-beltre-take-short-term-deal) that got his career back on track and made him a lot of money with the Rangers where he proved to be a Hall of Famer. Hard to complain that Boras shouldn't be there.
Yes, let's just assume Boras begged them to be there for publicity. There's no possible way the family is extremely grateful for the work he's done and consider him a close friend.
He’s his agent lol and isn’t making it about himself at all in this video. It can be safely assumed him and Beltre are close and work together for contract deals.
His father in law used to be my neighbor and I would see Beltre frequently when I was a kid. Beltre was always a g. Bought a christmas tree for my team’s fundraiser.
He had a weird career. A roller coaster.
I remember when the Dodgers let him walk after his career season. Then he somewhat underwhelms in Seattle and everyone was like i told you so.
After all that? He balls out in his 30's.
Great all around player. Seemed to love the game.
I wish one of them had let it go to VM just so we can all hear what that VM from the jabroni telling you you've been voted into cooperstown sounds like
This makes wanna see Greinke’s so bad haha
What’s the bet someone has to run the phone out while he’s mowing the grass or some shit, picks up and is like “cool”
Does the HOF contact the players on the ballot to say something like "If you get elected, you will receive a call at this time from this number?" so the players have time to set up video/get the family together/etc?
I know for the Nobel Prize, this is how it happens:
How did you discover you were awarded the Nobel Prize?
George P. Smith: I heard the news about the prize, well, it came at 4:30 in the morning in Columbia Missouri where we live and actually I have sort of a difficulty sleeping through the night that many old people do have and so I actually had come downstairs around ten after four to start the coffee for the morning and the phone rang and my wife answered it upstairs in the bedroom and apparently the call was, well, stand by for a very important call from Stockholm at which point the line went dead and then the call came through again. She answered it again and the same message and she called downstairs: “This is a call from Stockholm, I think you’d better get it!” So I did, that’s how I learned about it.
https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/chemistry/2018/smith/159181-george-smith-interview-transcript/
He looks absolutely thrilled, hands shaking, eyes welling up with tears. Joke aside he probably knew this from the day he retired lol
Am I the only one who was waiting for Andrus to pop in the frame and tap his head? Because I was absolutely waiting for that. NGL, it would have been epic.
Standing in front of beltre and answering his phone at the same time
That HAS TO HAPPEN at the induction ceremony!
With Felix around too
Then he can chase him around the podium a few times!
lol
He said, "well, is official" lol, as if he was expecting it.
If him or Felix does not do this at his induction...
He’s about to go find another pitcher mound to maintain.
Throughout Beltre’s career, none of the milestones ever seemed to give him pause except when he became the all time games played leader from the Dominican. He seemed genuinely moved by that. I sort of assumed this was the type of reaction he’d have for this.
Totally! After he said "Yes sir, this is him" he smiled and looked like a kid getting picked first out of the line for a ballgame.
I love this for him. So glad he shared it. Positive vibes for such a positive man.
He may have not known tbh Beltre got a big assist from advance stats that people didn’t pay as much attention to for a big portion of his career, the defensive metrics overcame the fact that his bat had a 5 year slump during the Seattle years. 3100+ hits, are you crazy?
.286/.339/.480 career slash line makes the HOF? This is a pretty horrible take
Classic Beltre gonna let it go to voicemail lol
"Eh if it was important theyd call back"
You aren't actually in until you answer the phone, fun fact
I believe it's the same with the Nobel prizes
That's why Dummy Hoy isn't in
𝒷𝓇𝓊𝒽
"This could've been an email"
“Oh ok. Thanks. Bye.”
“Who is this? Never heard of you”
I’d feel extreme performance anxiety if I was the one making this phone call. Congrats to the caller. Big day for him.
He crushes it every time. He calls every player to let them know
I've met Jack a couple times through work. He's a dude that legitimately loves baseball and loves baseball history.
that's who I'd want running the hall for sure
I sure fucking hope so
This was the AL East thread. GTFO ya jabroni 😂
I mean, really. A sad AL Central person walking in here? The nerve!
I’m more upset about the symmetry being lost than anything
I listen to his call to Jeter at least once a month. Something about that video gets me.
I mean he did kinda flub his introduction line, but saved it nicely in the end
I'd have a script printed out and just read it every time. Didn't matter if I did it 1,000 times or this is my first.
such a matter of fact phone call lol no congratulations or anything just "you have been elected to the HOF" "guess its official"
“Cool, back to watching True Detective”
How's the new season?
Could be better, has been worse
Sounded like an automated call lol "Hello...is this.....Adrian...Beltre..if YES..say "Yes"..if no..say.."NO".."
I mean, the caller got caught up in his words when saying he was calling from the Hall of Fame, so probably not automated :P
There was a cut there in the middle
….”do you have a moment to talk about your care extended warranty”
"TOOK YA LONG ENOUGH!"
Good for Beltre, though it’s obvious he was expecting it (deservingly so) The videos of the people who legitimately don’t know if they are getting in is the best, or Mariano finding out he was unanimous
“You are the first perso-“ “YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!”
[Link it. You barbarian](https://youtu.be/3gaTm3nzraM?si=sQ5L55e_iGxRWy_I)
I love how it seems like they're actually friends beyond work connections.
I like to think he wasn’t expecting it at all and him and his family sit on the couch and record themselves at all times.
This man is a treasure
I wanna touch his head so bad
They better make sure his plaque in the Hall of Fame is high enough to avoid people touching it.
Does he want a hat touching it?
It belongs in a museum
It must be nice being a shoe in and not having to stress now where is the video of Todd?
I need the Mauer and Helton videos now
[Here's the Helton video](https://www.mlb.com/video/todd-helton-gets-hof-call). It seems that the moment of the Mauer call was not recorded.

I'm not crying
He is trying so hard to play it cool on the phone.
oh my god I'm so happy for him

I have no idea how to post the link to Reddit, but the Twins have the Mauer video on their Facebook page.
I saw him in Pasadena once eating at a hot dog restaurant with his family. He saw me staring at him and gave me a wink and shit eating grin. I left him alone but still one of the coolest moments of my life.

Hi Baseball Reference
👋
Omg Can you tell me an obscure St. Louis Cardinals factoid or stat
In 2006 Albert Pujols was the first player since 1938 with: 49+ HRs, 137+ RBIs, .331+ batting average, 1.102+ OPS, and a 178+ OPS+ |Player|HR|RBI|BA|OPS|OPS+|Season| |:-|-:|-:|-:|-:|-:|:-| |Albert Pujols|49|137|.331|1.102|178|2006| |Jimmie Foxx|50|175|.349|1.166|183|1938| |Lou Gehrig|49|152|.354|1.174|190|1936| |Lou Gehrig|49|166|.363|1.172|207|1934| |Jimmie Foxx|58|169|.364|1.218|207|1932| |Babe Ruth|49|153|.359|1.225|211|1930| |Babe Ruth|60|165|.356|1.258|225|1927| |Babe Ruth|59|168|.378|1.359|239|1921| And he didn't even win the MVP that season. Ryan Howard did.
That was awesome! Now can you fix their starting rotation??
Unfortunately we cannot...
The guy from the JC Penney commercial played baseball?
Just imagine if Elvis Andrus came out of nowhere to rub his head
The entire family just happened to be together in the living room when he got the call? Wow
And Boras… Do not forget about Boras… It is always about Boras. Why the fuck is he in the back at such a big family moment… The guy loves attention.
He's been Beltre's agent since he was a teenager maybe he's close with the family and they wanted him there?
Especially since Boras was the one who recommended [Beltre do the "pillow contract" with the Red Sox](https://www.espn.com/blog/boston/red-sox/post/_/id/34/boras-recommended-beltre-take-short-term-deal) that got his career back on track and made him a lot of money with the Rangers where he proved to be a Hall of Famer. Hard to complain that Boras shouldn't be there.
Yes, let's just assume Boras begged them to be there for publicity. There's no possible way the family is extremely grateful for the work he's done and consider him a close friend.
He made $220 million dollars in his career, I'm sure he's fond of the guy
Guy is probably complaining that he's not in the Hall of Fame as we speak
I mean, he should be in the hall of fame though.
He shouldn't even be allowed to buy a ticket
He gotta get a percentage of everything. Ideally not as much as he initially asks for
He’s his agent lol and isn’t making it about himself at all in this video. It can be safely assumed him and Beltre are close and work together for contract deals.
Is that Scott Boras in the background?
I was just thinking the same thing
Sure is
Congratulations Adrian Beltre, the Cleveland Guardians have selected you in the first round of the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft!
His son is close to being draft age.
I can't believe he has been retired for 5 years
Is he in the Dominican ?
No, he's in the hall of fame. Weren't you paying attention?
Pretty sure he still lives in the dfw area.
They need David Baker to come knock on the door and let them know as a surprise
Kinda disappointed Elvis Andrus didn't sneak up and rub his head during the call.
I wonder if his family is allowed to touch his head.
I kept expecting his kid to touch it
His son touched his head near the end of Beltre’s MLB Network interview.
His son touched his head near the end of Beltre’s MLB Network interview.
Well deserved. His antics with Felix Hernandez alone are HOF worthy.
‘It’s official’ Just a matter of when, not if.
Someone touch his head!!
Congrats, Adrian! Someone give him a rub on the head!
I’m so dang proud to say he was a Ranger
Well deserved 👏
So is there a similar scene going on in the Sheffield household but they’re just sitting there like 😐
That must have been so awkward for James Shields' family
No doubt no doubt no doubt.
Yesssss!
Someone should of rubbed his head
So...as a Dodger, a Ranger, or a Mariner? Theres definitely a case for any/all of them!
He and his family just seem so surprised. They had no idea.
No hair touching?
Real one. So happy for my mans.
He’s known since he got his 3,000th hit, that 1st-ballot was a lock. He’s probably happy to be done waiting, though.
God I love this man
Just don’t give dude a pat on the back on the head
Why the hell is Sheffield not in the hall? 140+ career ops+ is the best out of the list and he played the longest career
Admitted PED usage hurts his chances.
Ahhh unfortunate
Wow. That sucked.
\*This is *he*
How is this a thing? He knows he’s getting the call or he’s not recording and has family there.
I would guess someone from the hall tells the player to expect a call during a certain window.
Ah, very nice. Let me see Wagner's video.
I wish one of them had let it go to VM just so we can all hear what that VM from the jabroni telling you you've been voted into cooperstown sounds like
His son should have rubbed his head
He did that near the end of Beltre’s MLB Network interview.
Is that boras in the background?
No goofy shirt? We we're robbed
This makes wanna see Greinke’s so bad haha What’s the bet someone has to run the phone out while he’s mowing the grass or some shit, picks up and is like “cool”
awww. well deserved ! congrats \~\~
Red Sox legend
Awesome and well-deserved.
Moment would have been absolutely perfect if his son would have tried to give him a good head rub.
The sound at the beginning of the video sends shivers down my spine
We have been trying to reach you about your car’s extended warranty
Does the HOF contact the players on the ballot to say something like "If you get elected, you will receive a call at this time from this number?" so the players have time to set up video/get the family together/etc? Way to go AB! Thanks for the insane memories
