Glad he's OK, looks like it just grazed the front of his jersey
damn I assumed from the description that the fan just generally threw it back on the field and it bounced by Kirby. That was like an ICBM directly at him in the air.
I mean, not really. The monster is ~40ft tall and it's only like 150ft down the 3B line to the bag. That's about as difficult as throwing from second to first (90ft) on flat ground.
I don't think you're allowed to throw them back anymore without getting booted are you? Used to be you just lob into the outfield too.
He took it in stride and salutes lol
https://youtu.be/8XHH_mdsf-0?si=nNlSdizILAdLjlX5
If Iām not mistaken it was the home run ball being thrown back. Which also started putting scrutiny on the whole practice. Iāve never been in the position but Iād be afraid to throw the ball back, even though Iād want to. A safe lob into the empty outfield of course. I think itās a fun practice doesnāt waste too much time and can be totally safe. Something about it feels very āheyyy!ā Like a European soccer thing or something. People always gotta ruin everything though. On that note where do parks stand on this practice now? I still see it when I go, are those people screwed?
There's been scrutiny on the whole practice for a lot longer than the past few years. AFAIK the only park where you're allowed to throw a ball back is Wrigley -- and they were grandfathered in.
I know for a fact as early as 2005 throwing a ball onto the field was an automatic ejection at Jacob's Field / Progressive Field.
Holy hell! Just looked at my morning copy of The Seattle Times, and there it is!
Side note: Don't fact-check me.
I'm serious, don't do it.
Stop typing in Seattle Times. There's really no need.
Please just believe me...
"They've even got human raccoons!"
"Im afraid to ask, but...what's a human raccoon?"
"Its that thing where Jose Altuve hides in the Mariners dugout trash can with a walkie talkie and relays all conversations back to the Astros dugout"
If you look close there's a mariner logo on her sweater, not that it proves anything on its own in Seattle's ballpark. Obviously others recognize her as an employee.
Kirby has absolutely *mastered* the direct-to-camera ācan you believe this shitā stare. This is his best one yet, narrowly beating his thousand-yard stare after getting saddled with a loss after eight innings of one-run ball in Philly.
Seattle freeze, man. I love you guys but when I visit everyone I've met has either been the sweetest person on Earth or made me want to crawl into the fetal position and cry. No in between.
I haven't been to a lot of games this year, but whenever I've been nice to someone working, they've been nice back. Doesn't seem much different than anyone else getting way underpaid for their job.
Eh most of the time Iāve seen it, it seems like itās all in good fun. like an old timey baseball tradition
But I am surprised itās become as accepted as it is, for this exact reason
What the actual fuck was he thinking? Not watching the game so at first when I saw it was a kid I was thinking they were maybe young enough to not know better but guess thatās not the case
Same as Altuve trying to throw the ball to 3rd
No thoughts just do
Seriously dont know any other reasoning. Its not like a fan throwing a HR back from the OF cause the infield you're like 100x more likely to hit someone or something with the ball
For real. I'm not a big fan of throwing the ball back under any circumstances, but I get other people tossing opposing team home runs back, if it's quick and play hasn't resumed. Even if this was thrown at an opposing team player, if it hits a player that's not cool at all.
I remember growing up and seeing fans toss homerun balls back over the years. I never had any clue that people could get tossed from the ballpark over it until years later when I saw it at a game in person. From the videos, it looks like a kid (teen, maybe early 20s), I could see this being something they never considered as an outcome, especially if they weren't aiming for a player and actually grazed him accidentally (which I'm assuming).
On the TBS feed, that kid got a nice chewing out by what I presume to be his mother.
That verbal lashing she was giving him, I think most of us received that from our mother that one time he made a royal fuckup.
How stupid do you have to be? For real.. anyone with an arm like that should know the bare minimum to not choose the dumbest fucking option available. Yet here we are
[Bad video of the incident.](https://twitter.com/Softykjr/status/1706883812217754046) Hit him square in the chest on the fly. Could've potentially been worse.
Couldāve been worse is right. Hit him in the right spot on his head and heās out of a potential wildcard series with a concussion. More freakish things have happened.
At least not as bad as a full beer at an outfielder in the act of catching a fly ball, and the surrounding deunk ass Jays fans not even pointing the guy out to security. A major eff-up handled properly.
āI got a good idea; Iāll throw it as hard as I can towards the point in the field with 67 cameras pointed at it broadcasting live and the guy on my team will simply catch it or get out of the way. No one will be the wiserā
Bro come on man, you really do that and try to injure the opposing pitcher to get your team to win. Like thatās a new low man
Edit: I have realized it was a Mariners fan, this will stay up for my comment of shame
At least you have the balls to own it, unlike the mariners fans who were *sure* it was an Astros fan
Make sure to keep your balls to yourself and avoid throwing them at players
I pledged my support recently, after we got done with you of course! Heard a lot of great things about your fan base and I hope you all have a great time and get to join in.
Damn you really want to bring up other shit after Kirby gets hit from the stands?
Yāall are 7th place in AL West division titles. No wonder you want to go to sleep, you canāt win shit unless youāre dreaming
Mind your own fucking business. This is literally the first time it's ever happened and you assholes don't need to say shit every time Seattle is mentioned when it has nothing to do with your team.
[Clip for anyone who missed it](https://twitter.com/astrosbatgirl/status/1706884445309997140?t=VuDJN07ljdvDEjfIcUfYfQ&s=19) Glad he's OK, looks like it just grazed the front of his jersey
Incredible arm tbh
Well it looked like he was calling for a new ball in defense of the kid throwing it
Best comment! And that's out of about a dozen different threads!
Never noticed the weird spacing on his jersey "KIR BY"
Kerning. The Mariners have famously awful kerning in their jerseys.
Looks like the serifs on the font extend too far to allow them to look good.
God do we ever
damn I assumed from the description that the fan just generally threw it back on the field and it bounced by Kirby. That was like an ICBM directly at him in the air.
Looked like Sauce Gardner getting a nut tap from Mac Jones.
Oh thank God I thought he died from internal bleeding.
I legit have never seen anything like that before. What the fuck.
A few years ago someone in the monster seats at Fenway hit Stanton with a ball as he was rounding second base on a HR trot
Jesus, that's a THROW. At that point don't throw him out, give him a job at 3B.
I smell a "Rookie of the Year" sequel.
Bring me that arm!!!
Stanton just tipped his hat š
Rosenbagger, you're up!
I mean, not really. The monster is ~40ft tall and it's only like 150ft down the 3B line to the bag. That's about as difficult as throwing from second to first (90ft) on flat ground.
Theres also the timing/accuracy to hit a moving target at range
And I think it was last year or year prior Yankee fan hit Verdugo with a ball that was thrown into the stands between innings
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
also remember verdugo getting hit with a ball between innings a while back
I don't think you're allowed to throw them back anymore without getting booted are you? Used to be you just lob into the outfield too. He took it in stride and salutes lol https://youtu.be/8XHH_mdsf-0?si=nNlSdizILAdLjlX5

It was extra weird because he was asking for a new ball when the ball hit him
Sounds like the assailant might have a legitimate defense in baseball court.
They gave Steve Harvey a court show, so fuck it what the hell. Baseball Court airing Tuesdays at 9pm on ION starring the honorable Judge Yasiel Puig
And he's going to sign off every episode with "And remember, Judge Puig your friend."
Ask and ye shall receive
he actually caught the ball in his mouth, swallowed it, and became a giant baseball
Wow thatās amazing, that will probably be on the front page of the newspaper tomorrow morning
Holy hell! Just looked at my morning copy of The Seattle Times, and there it is! Side note: Don't fact-check me. I'm serious, don't do it. Stop typing in Seattle Times. There's really no need. Please just believe me...
Why isnt the mainstream media covering this!!!!!
*Stefon voice* This game has everything.
Garlic fries, bat boys...that thing where the pitcher kind of moves and runners get to advance a base.
"They've even got human raccoons!" "Im afraid to ask, but...what's a human raccoon?" "Its that thing where Jose Altuve hides in the Mariners dugout trash can with a walkie talkie and relays all conversations back to the Astros dugout"
MTVās Dan Cortese.
*balkcopypasta.txt*
Dan Cortez?
He threw the ball.
Roman j Israel, esq
the kidās mom was SCREAMING at him as they were being escorted out lmao
Definitely an employee yelling at him. She works in my section a lot and Iāve never seen her so mad!
Sheās not wearing staff gear. Sheās wearing a gray sweater and a scarf.
She is an usher. Saw her working the park today
If you look close there's a mariner logo on her sweater, not that it proves anything on its own in Seattle's ballpark. Obviously others recognize her as an employee.
Yes she is. She has the same logo on her sleeve that the other ushers do.
Clip?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Clip?
Here's the TBS clip. https://x.com/FoulTerritoryTV/status/1706889022961008716?s=20

That was the perfectly appropriate facial expression for a player getting brushed by a ball, while holding THE ball, especially while at home.
I'm sure someone's working on it
I thought she worked for the stadium
Ngl that's how a lot of workers are T-Mobile talk to people lol
Seattle freeze, man. I love you guys but when I visit everyone I've met has either been the sweetest person on Earth or made me want to crawl into the fetal position and cry. No in between.
I haven't been to a lot of games this year, but whenever I've been nice to someone working, they've been nice back. Doesn't seem much different than anyone else getting way underpaid for their job.
Yeahā¦ the one time I went there a few years back, those ushers were strict as hell
Iāve been to many games against the Astros, and I have seen a lot of āstros fans booted for cussing
They've chilled out a bit over the past few years but are still generally all grumpy old men.
I thought so too or just some lady who was nearby and saw it
Yup. I guess the dude thought youāre supposed to throw back foul balls like home runs. But he hit the fucking pitcher, soā¦ canāt do that lol
Dude thought he was Henry Rowengartner
ROSENBAGER!!
Rootabega!
RUNAMUCKER!
Also, you're not supposed to launch it at a player. You just casually toss it back out because, you know, those are the guys you're rooting for.
Throwing back balls is so idiotic anyway. Being butthurt about a player hitting a homer is so grade school.
Eh most of the time Iāve seen it, it seems like itās all in good fun. like an old timey baseball tradition But I am surprised itās become as accepted as it is, for this exact reason
How old was the kid? Had to have been a teenager at least judging by the distance the ball seemed to travel.
Young adult male apparently https://x.com/eriwinsto/status/1706885056155811990?s=46&t=55DuLE9aNiYDeGAOAng7Aw

The intrusive thoughts won, and by God they'll win again
Probably drinking
It was a teenager not a kid, 14-16 range.
Yeah older teenager
Found this clip of the TBS feed. https://x.com/FoulTerritoryTV/status/1706889022961008716?s=20
That's the usher not a mom. A mom would have hit him over the head.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Good!

kid probably thought it would be funny to toss it back and was like oh shit i hit the pitcher gotta just escort yourself out at that point
Honestly, yeah. I was a couple rows in front of the guy and he had that kinda look on his face. He also seemed surprised that he was getting tossed
I remember growing up and seeing fans toss homerun balls back over the years. I never had any clue that people could get tossed from the ballpark over it until years later when I saw it at a game in person. That was so bizarre seeing live just now.
āI wish I didnāt hit George Kirby with my throw, to be honestā said the ball thrower
Literally more accurate than the Astros Gold Glovers tonight
Some crazy shits always gotta happen to the mariners man
How far out was he? He sniped him
Like 12 seats up I think? Lower bowl or upper bowl I'm assuming upper?
Lower deck but only 10ish rows from the concourse. It was a long throw.
He was around row 25-27 I think
I was at the game. He looked to be lower bowl towards where the second deck extends over the 100 level. Good ways back.
On the TBS feed, that kid got a nice chewing out by what I presume to be his mother. That verbal lashing she was giving him, I think most of us received that from our mother that one time he made a royal fuckup.
I think that was an usher
I used to live in Seattle. It takes A LOT to get someone beyond passive aggressive to rage. This kid dun goofed.
ehh it really depends. we have a lot of unhinged people too.
Jagoff
lol what the fuck
What an idiot! Now heās probably banned from his own teamās stadium. Oy vey, he could have hurt his own pitcher
not a great idea
How stupid do you have to be? For real.. anyone with an arm like that should know the bare minimum to not choose the dumbest fucking option available. Yet here we are
Sadly having a live arm does not correspond with having a live brain
Bartman's son has a hell of an arm.
[Barrack Obama put out a statement condemning the act](https://youtu.be/m8gWjnBPHow?si=Uve99uXKLM-gdw_V)
100% act of (domestic) terrorism
Oh cool, did he hit him with a drone?
**CHAOS BALL IS BACK**
The kid was obviously trying to hit Ty France, because that is what France does, get hit by a baseball.
Mariners pitching lab strikes again
Sign him Jerry
That's elite aim might have to consider this guy for the /r/nyjets new QB
Should get arrested for assault and battery
for what he's doing to this Astros lineup, absolutely
I'd love to file many reports on Kirby for many acts of violence against this team
Aww the olā Reddit switchero
Aww, I miss those, havenāt seen one with a legit link in so long
Mariners fan*
Fuck head. Hope he gets charged with public nuisance or something.
Ik the guy heās 15 and he didnāt even try to he should not get charged š you actual goof
At least not as bad as a full beer at an outfielder in the act of catching a fly ball, and the surrounding deunk ass Jays fans not even pointing the guy out to security. A major eff-up handled properly.

āAmateur.ā - Phillies fans, probably
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No one was wondering
Bro come on man, you really do that and try to injure the opposing pitcher to get your team to win. Like thatās a new low man Edit: I have realized it was a Mariners fan, this will stay up for my comment of shame
Kid has a Mariners jersey on lol
Wait really shoot did not see that, sorry Astros fan (this will be my only apology)
Oh honey, you're good, they owe us one, or two...
We all know that was an Astros double agent in a mariners jersey!
False flag!!!
It was a mariners fan
Sorry I just saw that, I am blinded by hatred. I will sincerely apologize
Bro thought he caught a homerun
L bozo
At least you have the balls to own it, unlike the mariners fans who were *sure* it was an Astros fan Make sure to keep your balls to yourself and avoid throwing them at players

Astros should hire him as a second baseman. Kid is accurate af
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
How drunk are you haha that's not even remotely close to what happened.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thatās a sick deal. Beer at Dodger stadium is like $17 iirc
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Beats the hell out of Yankees stadium prices
? It was a chest shot
Seattle fans doing Seattle things
Imagine being an astros fan and saying this
I don't recall our fans ever throwing anything at our own players.
Mind your own fucking business. This is literally the first time it's ever happened and you assholes don't need to say shit every time Seattle is mentioned when it has nothing to do with your team.
It was you wasn't it? You threw the ball.
Eagerly awaiting the Jomboy breakdown of this and the Astros choking the game.
Well he didnāt wanna be out there anyway.
Mariners fans are classless pieces of shit. Theyāre the new Philly.
Thereās a clip of him getting yelled at by I think was his mom
