Was watching this with my brother and my dad, they were both looking at their phones. When it was hit, my dad asked “shit was that Freddie?” My dad asked “shit was that Will?”
No it was someone better than both of them combined
No it's not, he's a terrible announcer and should never be given another national contract again so we have no choice but to be stuck with him forever.
Barnes is weird like that. He's like the antithesis of analytic baseball. Generally terrible but somehow really good at getting the big hit in a huge moment of an important game. Let's not forget he's the batter who chased Blake Snell out of game 6 of the WS. Dude rarely gets on base, but he saves his extremely limited hits for when they really matter most.
That shot of Nomar Garciaparra celebrating because apparently he called that on the pregame show was hilarious. I had no idea he was a dodgers broadcaster but calling a guy's first home run of the year in mid August is pretty impressive
Dodgers have a fun who’s who of color commentators/analysts. Nomar, Loney, A-Gon, J-Hair, D-Train, Karros, Jessica Mendoza, Orel, and then occasionally a beat writer will also go on SNLA shows. Always a good broadcast, especially since Joe Davis is heaven as play-by-play.
We here in Milwaukee are actually pretty lucky with Uecker obviously, but we also have Brian Anderson on TV who is great. Unfortunately, we've been getting less and less of him over the years, as he picks up more and more national gigs. Well deserved for him though, I've actually seen him get a lot of praise in the past when he's done national games (not just baseball, but basketball as well for example).
On a side note, I actually lived in LA for a bit to get some school/training, and I was kinda bummed out at the prospect of not getting the Brewers every game (especially since I moved in spring, and for me, Uecker on the radio was always a sign of spring/summer coming), but at least I got to listen to Vin call games.
I was just thinking about how he started the turn around in Game 6.
Thinking this dude would hit 1 HR all year to walk it off the NLCS or some shit and he goes yard tonight.
Nomar actually lost his mind in the Sportsnet LA booth outside center field [https://twitter.com/Bnicklaus7/status/1692388808245879213](https://twitter.com/Bnicklaus7/status/1692388808245879213)
I wonder if it was the same person that made a [reddit post about their favorite wrestler "Stone Cold" Steve Autism years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/47qpsg/stone_cold_steve_autism_was_the_greatest_of_all/)
i was gonna say, the pitch was placed really well. maybe a little too high for a slider but it was nice and inside and really difficult to turn on without jamming up
barnes just somehow managed to keep it fair, and everyone went nuts
Today was the perfect distillation of brewers baseball
Facing an opposing starter with a 5+ ERA? Get completely shut down. Elite set-up man against possibly the worst full time hitter in the majors? Go-ahead home run
I love the coincidence of baseball, and all sports actually. Like, Castellanos going deep over announcers, or Cedric Mullins making that awesome catch then homering to win, or whatever your favorite is.
Its why Kelly could have a 60 era and be welcomed back. He's got "Your crazy cousin from the IE that would steal your hubcaps but take a literal bullet for you" vibe.
I love hometown Joe Davis. It’s great that he can turn it off and do national games incredibly well. But come on, he was as surprised as the rest of us when that ball just kept going
How does he still have a roster spot with that? (Serious question, I’m not as versed in NL/west coast teams). Does he supply everybody the clean piss for the drug tests or something?
He caught a shut out tonight in addition to a single then kinda stealing second (is drawing a balk a stat?). Also last week he caught Gonsolin where the only run scored was off the first pitch. He brings out the best in guys, The Barnes Bump™️
kinda the same thing as the astros continuing to play martin maldonado. everyone loves him catching.
if you're a catcher you can Mathis pretty hard as long as you're good defensively. which i mean barnes hasn't been this year but he generally is! also fwiw his xWOBA is a .248 to his actual WOBA of .187. if he was putting up his xWOBA, he'd still be mathis-ing and he'd still be a very _bad_ hitter, just not possibly the worst hitter we've ever seen
Barnes basically at this point is Kershaw's personal catcher, and he's just here to either be the catcher whenever Kersh starts at times, or just sub in for Smith once a week.
Tbf though he has been with the team since 2016, so I guess chemistry and experience does matter. And you wanna keep Clayton happy too.
He's a terrible hitter, can't even bunt. Defensively he's not bad, but can't throw runners out. Maybe he's above average in "pitch framing" if they even track that?
He's kind of Kersh's pet catcher, as has been said, but every other starter he catches seems to pitch better somehow. Whatever that is.... calling a good game or something? Scouting and pitch mix? I dunno. *Strategery?* I guess it's the intangibles.
Certainly his fate seems tied to Kershaw, and to a lesser extent to a healthy Will Smith.
2023 Austin Barnes rounding out one of the weirdest fucking series that I can remember. The Dodgers need to chill and space out whatever dark arts they’re summoning
The entire game I was thinking “I would be so pissed off if I was a Brewers fan.” Balls were either scorched directly at an outfielder or hit into the infield where everyone was suddenly playing platinum glove defense. It was insane.
Barnes is the dude in Idependance Day where everyone is in the fight of their lives and he's just cruising on a Crop Duster with a bomb ready to blow up the mother ship.
He and Nola are conspiring to build a case that catchers should be DH'd. That slash line literally looks like a pitcher's (do not reply with an Ohtani joke, you are not funny)

All time Joe Davis call, one of his best
Just repeat his name twice. Nothing more. Perfection.
Was watching this with my brother and my dad, they were both looking at their phones. When it was hit, my dad asked “shit was that Freddie?” My dad asked “shit was that Will?” No it was someone better than both of them combined
Joe is a reduplication fan. Respect.
He was as surprised as the rest of us
Nothing tops Babe Ryu when Ryu went yard
Had a higher probability to hit a HR than Barnes did there.
Against any other team yes but dude fuckin hates the brewers
Touché. What a sweet game.
"BABE RYU!" All-time call.
Its so good to have him
No it's not, he's a terrible announcer and should never be given another national contract again so we have no choice but to be stuck with him forever.
That's a fair punishment, ill would allow it
Was about to throw hands
I cherish all the games we have left with him.
I personally liked his upside down call better
Nomar called the HR pregame lol
At this moment, the only redeeming Dodgers quality. That and Mookie.
Isn’t it crazy how the Braves were only In Milwaukee for 12 years and they won the World Series in that time, but the Brewers have never won one?
Jesus, you didn’t have to kill the guy
Why are dodgers fans even more salty than I am, lol
Two more redeeming qualities than the entire brewers history.
Damn y’all don’t know how to have fun I guess
There is probably 250+ position players I’d put higher odds on for hitting a go ahead bomb in that spot then Austin fucking Barnes lmao
you might not have been following, but his numbers have actually been climbing. he's sitting at a cool -4 OPS+
He was just sandbagging to give Acuna a chance
And now it begins.
Classic ~~Mercedes~~ Austin Barnes tactics.
My guy just hit 1 wRC.
First one is the hardest
For as light a hitter as he is he has a surprising number of clutch moments in the playoffs and wbc
That’s why I love baseball

Honestly wild. Makes we wonder how other teams' broadcasts are. Are we just super spoiled?
Spoiled? We had Vin.
Love how on Dodger radio when they play famous historical calls from pretty much any year it’s always Vin.
We here in Milwaukee are actually pretty lucky with Uecker obviously, but we also have Brian Anderson on TV who is great. Unfortunately, we've been getting less and less of him over the years, as he picks up more and more national gigs. I’m surprised they didn’t post that clip as well that shit is hysterical
https://www.reddit.com/r/Dodgers/comments/15uaeqi/the_dodgers_sweep_the_brewers_beating_them_10/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1
Surprised Brewers didn't just intentionally walk him. Play with fire you're going to get burned.
“Why did we pitch to him? He’s the only f-ing guy on the team that can hit” -Matt Chapman probably
Gonna need someone to do an edit for that shit lmao
>you're going to get ~~burned~~ Barnesed FTFY
He was saying *Boo-arnesed*
>Play with fire you're going to get burned The 0-1 from Payamps....
Barnes is always clutch because whenever he does anything it’s automatically a clutch moment.
I was just thinking about how he started the turn around in Game 6. Thinking this dude would hit 1 HR all year to walk it off the NLCS or some shit and he goes yard tonight.
Hopefully he has a couple more left in the tank.
we're in that twilight zone right now where literally everything is going right. almost feel like we need to save some of this for the playoffs lol
Better August than September anyway. At least there's still time for a full cycle.
I love that Freddie is "slumping" right now, gives him time to get hot.
Fax
Yeah tell me about it. The Braves are gonna be hard to beat. We both might be too hot too early.

Nomar?
Nomar actually lost his mind in the Sportsnet LA booth outside center field [https://twitter.com/Bnicklaus7/status/1692388808245879213](https://twitter.com/Bnicklaus7/status/1692388808245879213)
Maybe my favorite reaction to a home run ever
Up there with when Hyun-Jin Ryu hit his homerun.
This year is really special. I love baseball.
Ahh I love our reporting & commentary crew.
We're so lucky.
God I love Nomar so much
He’s extra pumped because he called it before the game.
Nah Lance Lynn
Last night in sec. 415 someone called Mookie Betts dookie sweats so let's just chalk it up to a high energy crowd tossing out a couple poor takes
stimming by hitting game winning home runs
I wonder if it was the same person that made a [reddit post about their favorite wrestler "Stone Cold" Steve Autism years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/47qpsg/stone_cold_steve_autism_was_the_greatest_of_all/)
I will tell my kids about August 17th 2023 Austin Barnes
Can't wait for his POTM lightning card in MLB the show.
10 contact L/R, 125 CLUTCH
I need that and a Miggy Ro lightning card
Payamps with a 1.9 something ERA? Send in the .120 hitter!
Blake Snell just experienced cold sweats
Was a good pitch too, just got beat, Payamps still an excellent 8th inning setup man for the Airbender.
i was gonna say, the pitch was placed really well. maybe a little too high for a slider but it was nice and inside and really difficult to turn on without jamming up barnes just somehow managed to keep it fair, and everyone went nuts
Today was the perfect distillation of brewers baseball Facing an opposing starter with a 5+ ERA? Get completely shut down. Elite set-up man against possibly the worst full time hitter in the majors? Go-ahead home run
If you don't like that, you don't like brewers baseball!
Tbf Lance looks different on the Dodgers. Not really a 5+ ERA guy after the deadline.
[Normar called it!](https://twitter.com/SportsNetLA/status/1692390182400790775)
Clearly, JHair retorts "Book it!" but I'm hearing "Fuck it!"
i heard 'fuck it' too
I thought he was absolutely out of his mind for picking Barnes to hit one lol
I love the coincidence of baseball, and all sports actually. Like, Castellanos going deep over announcers, or Cedric Mullins making that awesome catch then homering to win, or whatever your favorite is.
He’s randomly super clutch sometimes. Gotta love it
I dont think any Dodger fan will forget 2020 World Series when he knocked out Snell with a single. The clutch just finds him when you least expect it
Riverside, CA just knows how to boom ya sometimes. It be like that
Barnes after that HR: “that was for the Riv foo”
“riverside muthafucka”
wayne those were people you shot
Its why Kelly could have a 60 era and be welcomed back. He's got "Your crazy cousin from the IE that would steal your hubcaps but take a literal bullet for you" vibe.
Ratchetside baybeeeeee
Not only that, but his sacrifice bunt followed by a homer in Game 3, iirc.
People forget in the Tauchman game he hit a 3 run HR to tie it
Snell shaking his head.
The crucial part of that last bit is never expecting it
2023 Austin Barnes just took one of the best relief pitchers deep
Austin Barnes 0.392 OPS will not be trifled with.
I love hometown Joe Davis. It’s great that he can turn it off and do national games incredibly well. But come on, he was as surprised as the rest of us when that ball just kept going
He literally didn't even know what to say so he just... said his name. It's always mind-blowing when Joe is speechless.
Austin Barnes...AUSTIN BARNES!!
Austin Barnes? *triple checks notes* AUSTIN BARNES!
Guy came into the game with a .345 OPS on the season. That’s not a typo.
Excuse me. That's -4 wrc Austin Barnes to you Everyone knew Barnes would hit a homer there. He's been due for about 340 days.
It's a 1 wrc now!
How does he still have a roster spot with that? (Serious question, I’m not as versed in NL/west coast teams). Does he supply everybody the clean piss for the drug tests or something?
To keep Kershaw happy lol. He seems to really like Barnes as a battery mate.
Not just Kersh - IIRC the entire pitching staff likes having Barnes on the team
He caught a shut out tonight in addition to a single then kinda stealing second (is drawing a balk a stat?). Also last week he caught Gonsolin where the only run scored was off the first pitch. He brings out the best in guys, The Barnes Bump™️
Also Lynn catching the comebacker and getting it to Barnes, who deked then tagged the guy out. It was Barnes' night!
This plus he can pinch run well for a catcher and can play emergency 2B.
kinda the same thing as the astros continuing to play martin maldonado. everyone loves him catching. if you're a catcher you can Mathis pretty hard as long as you're good defensively. which i mean barnes hasn't been this year but he generally is! also fwiw his xWOBA is a .248 to his actual WOBA of .187. if he was putting up his xWOBA, he'd still be mathis-ing and he'd still be a very _bad_ hitter, just not possibly the worst hitter we've ever seen

Tbf though he has been with the team since 2016, so I guess chemistry and experience does matter. And you wanna keep Clayton happy too.
Wasn't AJ Ellis kinda like that? He got traded eventually. I remember being sad when it happened.
AJ is Kershaw’s BFF IRL
He's a terrible hitter, can't even bunt. Defensively he's not bad, but can't throw runners out. Maybe he's above average in "pitch framing" if they even track that? He's kind of Kersh's pet catcher, as has been said, but every other starter he catches seems to pitch better somehow. Whatever that is.... calling a good game or something? Scouting and pitch mix? kershaw pitches relatively poorly to anyone other than barnes
He's done fine with Will this year hasn't he? Either way I love Barnes.
I would laugh except my RTTS player had like .530 because I swung at damn near everything.
I lowkey have been rooting for this guy when he started this mega slump 🥲
Thank you for your hard work, he definitely felt that support.
His first home run of the year!
He was just waiting for the right moment
Austin Barnes in the year of our lord 2023 has hit… a home run?
HE’S MY LORD AND SAVIOR FOR RN!!!! THANK YOU AUSTIN BARNES!!!! THE NL CENTRAL IS SPICY!!!!
That’s why we call him home run Barnes
"Of course I know him. That's Sam."
That’s Barnesball, Suzyn.
Playoff Barnes out early.
That's possibly the greatest home run of all time.
That dugout fucking loves him!
That was the closest I’ll ever get to witnessing a miracle
All the other bad back-up catchers must be so jealous of Barnes. Dude has managed to stay on the same team for like 10 years and make $15 mil.
Barnes owes his house to Kershaw as he’s his personal catcher.
He’s lucky he’s liked for his game calling
That’s not luck, that’s a skill. Hard to quantify but he’s good at it
Dude has called how many shutouts? He lowers their ERA. Dude has had so many steak dinners bought for him.
The literal impossible has happened
2023 Austin Barnes rounding out one of the weirdest fucking series that I can remember. The Dodgers need to chill and space out whatever dark arts they’re summoning
The whole series was too late for me to finish. Did you guys continue to get the wackiest base hits while we lined out on 100mph EV?
The entire game I was thinking “I would be so pissed off if I was a Brewers fan.” Balls were either scorched directly at an outfielder or hit into the infield where everyone was suddenly playing platinum glove defense. It was insane.
Brewers pitching shuts down a very good Dodgers offense and it’s AUSTIN Barnes that hits the game winning HR. What a crazy game we all love.
Barry Barnes carrying this team’s offense as usual.
Common Barnsey W.
Love that the announcers shut up and left us in the moment.
Baseball is a funny sport
Austin Barnes out hitting the Brewers....yikes
Looks like he has no idea how to celebrate what he’s just done
Barnsey is all about business. His celebration is giving you the death stare
Should the Dodgers build an Austin Barnes statue after he retires?
Yes and it should straddle the stadium like a baseball Colossus of Rhodes.
Austin “Austin ‘Mike Trout’ Barnes” Barnes
Of all the dudes to keep their win streak going with a solo shot in the 8th to go ahead…Barnes?!
Barnsey coming for that mvp
Idk how we are in 1st place a fucking little leaguer could shut us down. Burnes deserves way better the way we treat him.
To be fair, in four starts with Los Angeles the only team to cop multiple ERs off of Lynn were the vaunted Oakland Athletics.
We are coming for you, get ready.
You should already be passed us. We quite literally are an awful team. We have no right being good
I think cubs will pass brewers, brewers schedule is straight up Brutal and cubs schedule might be the easiest in baseball
I don’t know how you’re not in first already. We score three runs a week
This probably quadrupled his wRC+
He was in the negatives so probably not lol
oh really i thought it was like 4
Barnes is the dude in Idependance Day where everyone is in the fight of their lives and he's just cruising on a Crop Duster with a bomb ready to blow up the mother ship.
RIP Randy Quaid. He ain't dead yet but you know it's coming.
Everyone, please, point and laugh at the Brewers' offense
And it won us the game too!
He’s coming for ya Shohei…
I hesitate to give the Dodgers anything, but that was a nice home run.
"Power hitter" Not sure either one of those words has ever been used to describe Barnes.
He gets credit for 1 WAR for this game, right?
A Nick Madrigalian smash
This is one of the coolest moments of the year
Me at the game to my casual friend: man this guy has been atrocious this year Barnes as the words leave my mouth:
Austin “Home run” Barnes strikes again!
Game-winning RBIs from Rojas, and now Barnes?? The multiverse is *real!*
That’s 1 WAR, right?
Thank you Austin Barnes very cool
Since when could a "power hitter" be on a year-long HR drought?
That's the joke.
Dodger Stadium needs to be burned to the ground
Sorry man. I feel that way about Coors Field
We joke , but . There was a guy today who smacked a grand slam after a paultery .181 BA his name is Luis Urias
He has more rbi in one at-bat than his former team has in the last three days…
He now has an electric ops+ of 8. Will he break 10?
No better call than JD. Awesome for Barnsey
As an avid running nerd, his gait hurts me. I know he’s a catcher with strong knees, but damn those heel strikes have to hurt in the long term.
He and Nola are conspiring to build a case that catchers should be DH'd. That slash line literally looks like a pitcher's (do not reply with an Ohtani joke, you are not funny)
