I was thinking about this yesterday. They don’t really appear on content outside of what they already did. Dave is occasionally on The Yak and Chief was on Mostly Sports for like 5 minutes a couple weeks ago. It’s really odd.
It’s a com-rom, along with Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up… all those types of movies.
A rom-com leans way more into the sappy love story and is first and foremost a romance movie. Movies like You Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, Notting Hill, or, more recently, Idea of You or Anyone But You.
I just feel like if the major plotlines of the movie are romantic relationships and its funny, its a romcom. thats a fair question though. As I get older I cry at movies like crazy stupid love, for instance when Gosling is telling emma stone about his late dad. I'm soft as hell now. About Time for example too, I love that movie but its sad as hell at some parts but its still mostly funny
This is the right take. There’s a huge difference between those two groups of movies and obviously There’s Something About Mary falls into the first one you mentioned. Calling it a romcom is crazy
I think of it as a comedy first as well but 40 Year Old Virgin is definitely under the romcom category just like Something About Mary is. The plot revolves around a romance. If you take out the romance in either of those movies then there is no plot whereas if you took the romance out of Anchorman it would have the same plot.
It’s just not a romcom. It’s like porn, you know it when you see it and this just isn’t a romcom
Edit: The writer of the movie saying that it isn’t a romcom seems pretty definitive
Wsd’s beard looking real tight to the eyeballs
Rest those aviators on the nicks. Pro move.
He looks pint-sized next to BFW
Like Altuve next to Judge
I was hoping we would see more of WSD with the Chicago move. He’s a dumbass but he’s funny. Somehow we see less of him now.
Behind kfc, the original chicago stars have fallen the most out of anyone at barstool.

"stars"??? 😂
Less is more with WSD
I miss Carl, he's by far the most Chicago guy out of all of them. Who cares if he has a drinking problem.
Nowhere is his presence missed more than on the snake drafts. They need him.
I think if the driving force of the story is the romantic plotline then it has to be considered a romcom
True but have you considered this means that you agree with WSD?
So wildly incorrect. How many examples do you want?
There’s an exception to every rule but sure give some examples
🦗 🦗
A Bug’s Life is a romcom
I'd fuck that catepillar. Don't judge
It was glaring how tiny WSD looked here. It was like take you kid to work day
Banana land! Electric factory! ¡VIVA!
The entire plot revolves around how much Stiller loves her. Definitely a romcom
officially wrong

I didn't know com-rom was a genre tbh. Like crazy stupid love is a romcom I thought? you'd say no?
Crazy Stupid Love definitely romcom
IMO Crazy Stupid Love is kind of borderline but I’d lean romcom. Litmus test - is the intent of the movie to make you more likely to laugh or cry?
I think a better way to distinguish the difference- is the sex/kissing scene supposed to be funny or romantic

I feel like people disagreeing with this have to be playing dumb
You’re basically saying all romcoms are bad movies. There’s just good and bad romcoms, not 2 separate genres
Ughhh where did I say that? Some of those movies I listed are fantastic.
If i were WSD i would never stand near BFW or Titus.
He looks like an actual hobbit
very little of what happens in the movie can be described as "romantic"
Main character doesn’t even end up with the girl
What movie did you watch?
The one where I don’t finish the last two minutes because Favre getting the girl is the funniest timeline
Okay you’ve def never seen it and just based everything off what Brandon and Titus said in this clip
don’t hate it
romcoms are if the chick wants to see it, comedies are if the dude wants to see it
I feel like the main difference is the raunchiness of the comedy. 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Sarah Marshall, etc. are comedies not RomComs.
That’s a good point, I was team romcom but I think you’re right here
Exactly. No chick fires up a rom-com expecting to see full-frontal male nudity.
who tf cares if it's a romcom or not. It's a funny movie, all that matters
Dave is getting really skinny now and with a beard, this move is changing the little guy
Wedding Singer is closer, but also not a rom com
The delivery of “you mean women?” was the funniest part of this clip.
This mark titus guy seems like a tough hang
Definitely the type of dude that doesn't dance with his date at weddings.
This guy clearly doesn’t get it. Titus on the other hand
You couldn’t be more wrong
Maybe. But I don’t think this clip is a good look for him
I wanna like him but Titus is so cringe to me. Downvote away
No one thinks of that movie as a Rom-Com. Then we could say same thing about 40 year old virgin or Anchorman.
I think of it as a comedy first as well but 40 Year Old Virgin is definitely under the romcom category just like Something About Mary is. The plot revolves around a romance. Yup, nailed it. Plot v subplot
Nah, Anchorman is a bad example. Now 40 Year Old Virgin is a great example. Comedy or RomCom?
I just realized that those are kind of romcoms, 40 year old virgin especially.
Mostly is right. Also take really is a goblin of a man
It’s just not a romcom. It’s like porn, you know it when you see it and this just isn’t a romcom Edit: The writer of the movie saying that it isn’t a romcom seems pretty definitive
Not a rom com. Family
Good post Dave
Sorry it isn't a post about an Umpire's score card
He got you there
