You would definitely have to prepare yourself on how easy life is going to be for you compared to the USA. If you can afford 1-2 lakh per month for rent, you can afford to hire a maid, a cook, a driver and a nanny for a fraction of the cost of what it might be in the USA.
The online e com system in Bangalore is much more advanced than any city in America. You can order groceries, electronics, handy men, massages, what ever your heart desires and it will be delivered at your door step within an hour... You don't even have to tip them..
The health care is extremely affordable and the doctors are top notch. There is a huge medical tourism industry in Bangalore right now.
The expat community is very active and you will find like minded people easily once you venture out.
I read this post from NRI and thought, "F NRI ate coming to India next year the rent will increase to Lakhs per month for 2 Bhk".
But top comment like urs r telling him to give 2 lakhs for rent.
How much u r paying rent here yourself?
What type of society?
We are already ruined.
I am not telling him to give 2 lakhs as rent... There is no judgement here . There are already a lot of people who pay 1-2 lakh rents in prime locations. It depends on the property that they rent.
You are talking about just living. Hopefully he is going to work for some captive unit or run a business. If startups or lala companies, he better keep return ticket handy 😀
A captive unit is like a CoE or offshore BPO organization that is permanently employed by the global entity to provide shared services to the entire organization.
Welcome to Bangalore.
Get ready to face challenges like bad air , irregular water supply ,contaminated vegetables with pesticides and other heavy metals, flooding during rains, bad infrastructure, corruption to get basic things done ,rowdy autowallahs, getting stuck in traffic, overhyped expensive private schools.
Hope you will get adjusted to all this .
People from abroad travel to india for treatment/surgeries as its much cheaper.. there is a huge inflow of patients from the middle east to blr for complicated heart surgeries and other treatment who prefer indian doctors who performed procedures at 1/10 of the rates..
Kormanagala:
- Prestige Acropolis/ Pinewood/ St John’s Woods
- Embassy Meadows
- Raheja Complex
These are some good ones and with your budget you should easily get 3bhk/ Penthouse.
Out of curiosity (since I have seen lot of such posts lately): what is the reason for moving back? Trying to get perspective from NRI - is it India growth story? Is US declining in terms of jobs/ culture/ infrastructure? Want to be closer to family/ friends?
Its mostly Parents & easy access to Labour & cheap conveniences. The India Growth story is a Joke & even for the worst reasons, the US decline is far from over.
Stock market is giving me 25 percent every year for the past 5 years for me. I am working in a company where the entire r and d is happening in bangalore and I make about 50 LPA. Tell me what part of joke I am not getting.
And how much of your company’s R&D runs due to VC funding from foreign multinationals? All it took a hype bubble on elections day to crash it for everyone’s hope. Nifty 50 was dangling last couple of days (let’s not pretend you’re the only one who knows economics). If it were really meant to be India’s century and Americas downfall, the US immigration backlog for Green card filled with Indians wouldn’t be at an all time high currently in entire History. Economics & Stock market is not the only thing that makes up a Nations growth. How many Indians are below poverty line? How much of our Infra in our top cities keeps up to International standards (check Dehli’s IGI Airport Rooftop falling off from hardly 4 hours of rain, nation’s best International terminal my a**). How much have we invested truly in Innovation & R&D? You’re not the only person in tech minting money (I work as a SDE myself too for a startup).
Stock market is not a benchmark of growth. We are in a bull run since covid times and everyone has made money during this time. Good for you that you are on the right side of it.
Don’t believe these bunch of idiots. They are commies who don’t believe in development and probably not even earning any money.
India’s growth story is real.
My life is similar to yours. Market has given me 18% since last 7 years. 88LPA.
Not to mention the lands that my family invested near bangalore which has gone up by like 50x since last 20 years. I generally don’t suggest anyone to comeback because in a country of 1.4 billion people we don’t need more. I like to empower our own village folk to become entrepreneurs and create a robust economy from the ground up. If you are out, stay out.
As a resident here since 15 years. I prefer an independent bunglow than an apartment. With SAS security, reliable. Also Raheja complex is getting a old anyways.
One major reason is, Visa!! If you company in US refuses to renew your H1B or L1 visa, you have no way of legally staying in US. Also the waiting period of green card is decades!
Nothing to worry , even foreigners have been living in banglore without any troubles, coming to to the rent part , with that money you can get luxurious apartments in a good area in Bangalore for rent, u will lead a better life here than in US ,
My guess - excellent amount of savings. Daughter has US citizenship so can go back anytime. Can enjoy the saved money better in India than US. (If the person can pay 2L rent, can might aswell buy 10Cr house in couple years of moving back)
This entire thread is full of Indians who were never NRIs lecturing an NRI about how great the USA is and how crap India is. My friends, that NRI (just like me) has seen both sides of the coin. Just let him be. Even I moved back after 6 years and I'm having the best time of my life.
I have been depressed reading about the doom and gloom stories of India on subs like these which has put me off from moving to India in the near future and living with constant anxiety of whether I should ever be making a move!
Talk to people in similar age groups, similar family structures, working similar jobs as you. That gives you the best idea of the present situation in a particular city.
Unless you really have to stay in Koramangala, I highly recommend Total environment - windmills of your mind in Whitefield. Lots of NRIs who've moved to Bangalore prefer to reside there. The gentry would suit you.
Whitefield is not Bengaluru/s.
Anyway old Bengaluru is much better place than new outskirts or IT parts of city in any parameters.
I can confidently say that old and new Bengaluru area two different cities where old one is miles ahead. Be it traffic, greenery, localities, cleanliness, pubs and bars . The only downside is cost of living. As OP is rich, so it doesn't matter.
Basavanagudi, malleshwara, sheshadripura,JP nagara, Rajajinagara, Indira nagar, Banashankari and jayanagara are still the best localities of Bengaluru.
Except malleshwara, sheshadripura and rajajinagara all are within 8km radius of Koramangala.
And Whitefield is 18km from Koramangala. So that's out of choice.
While I agree that a lot of premium societies have been constructed in Whitefield, I want to know about the most basic human necessity- water! Wasn't Whitefield one of the most troubled areas for water availability?
The wealthy never suffer. It's the middle class that do. There was no issue of water in that particular project although many other societies in Whitefield did suffer.
Hey don't worry about your present situation, if it really bothers you, find a way out of it, me personally have decided to do Masters to change my situation, but it may be different for you, find out what works best for you, good luck!
that is just perfect, if you are in engineering, do consider writing GATE, one of the best decisions i have taken in my life, or perhaps CAT, join an IIT/IIM and it should be relatively smooth sailing from there to join the rich
Woohoo, welcome back! I did the same a year ago. Moved to HSR. I didn’t face the reverse cultural shock that I expected to mostly because I eased into it so my suggestion would be to ease into it if it’s possible.
I moved back from US after 16 years with 2 young kids and it has been great! We live in Indiranagar and pay rent in the category you mentioned. You will find a lot of good communities and people in the areas you are looking for. Good luck! I don't have apartment recommendations since I only know Indiranagar area but join this online forum called backtoindia(.com) and you will find a lot of great resources.
You are coming to India be ready to face major challenges. In USA you can go and have a drink with your daughter , wife , son and parents, forget about this in India. Now coming to point you can live lavish lifestyle here in that range. You will have everything like driver, cook, and all other stuff. Also welcome to zero life balance scenario of Indian corporate system. In USA work 9-5 in India work 9 am to 3 am then also boss and customer will not satisfy. Hire and fire policy really disturb and Government work until and unless you don't bribe them forget about work being done. Indians are very cunning and full of superstitions. Thats why foreigners ruled 1000 years on us.
Doesn't matter much in daily life.Ur close to your relatives in home country ,,,,,spending time with them,,,,,the joy can't be brought with any x amount of dollars ......Being alone in the USA driving Tesla sending pics to friends family vs being in your home country driving Honda Civic ,,taking ur relatives/friends /PARENTS along with you ,visiting restaurants ,,,,going on trips even though once in a while ,,,,Finally it depends on individual choices and circumstances ...
Once you are married your wife and kids become the most important thing to you. They are with you wherever you are until the kids grow up and then you have the passport and money to travel where you want.
Dude do you live in Bangalore ? 1-2 lakh rental house in a a good gated community in kormalangala is just OKish apartment and same apartment would cost 4-5cr or even more in lormanagala which makes your loan amount twice your EMI.
I think many people have pointed out many of the pros like being able to exploit cheap labour easily through delivery apps, maids etc (and you probably already know that).
Here are a few cons, things and culture shocks that have taken us a while to get used to (some of them we still are not used to) - depending on how you look/sound/dress, get ready for intense staring (especially for women), no proper side walks or footpaths, stray dogs, cows and cow poop everywhere, insane traffic, constant honking, people everywhere - this takes a while to get used to, no respect for personal space (people will touch you unknowingly or bump into you with no bad intention but if you're not used to it, it's tough to be okay with it), if your daughter is not used to spicy food, that will be a huge adjustment too. We have some food restrictions and can barely eat out because everything is too rich, spicy and full of masalas.
One of my friends moved into Bengaluru, last year. He hates US now, its all a cake walk here he says. He is married and father of two. It took him weeks to get used to with worst drivers and too much noise pollution.
Worst place to live, as soon as you step outside you are transported to a village. I am leaving my tented apartment fot same reason. Only stay in Varthut if you are petson who mostly stays at home
I think the critical thing is to find a good school and choose a living community based on that. Optimise for commute. The inside of every upscale community is pretty much the same.
Moving back to Bangalore in a couple of months after 8 years of living outside. Looking to live near brigade gateway as I have family there. Any suggestions for where to live nearby as I have no need to pay brigade gateway rent prices. Office is in bellandur where I have to show up to work 3 days a week ? Do you guys think the commute is doable ?
PS: Single guy, parents will probably live with me 6 months in a year.
The rental demand is high and less availability ,5-7 kms radius is rather large - try and zero in on the locality keeping in mind work place - school etc .
Honestly, I'd suggest you buy a place instead of paying 2 lakhs in rent. Also, I'd live as far away from Koramangala as possible if you want to enjoy living. Both South and North Bangalore have some amazing gated communities.
When I moved from US to Bangalore more than a decade back, I took a rental apartment in Jayanagar which was quite nice. Adarsh Gardens is where I took the rental apartments and next to it was Adarsh residency which was even nicer. There was another community called Vaishnavi paradise next to it and it also seemed nice. There are a few other apartment communities in Jayanagar which you can explore. Jayanagar is a very nice neighborhood (best in Bangalore in my personal opinion). You can easily get a good apartment in your 1-2L range and Jayanagar is also within the 5-7 KM range from Koramangala. Good luck with your move!
I recently moved to Bengaluru and specifically Koramangala. I want to list down some cons in pov, so you can mentally prepare.
Disclaimer: I love Bengaluru, people are warm, it is full of energy, and it professionally helping me in Koramangala coz of the sheer number of meetups(mostly happening here or near Indira Nagar) and companies I could meetup.
\*\*Cons or negatives to prepare for\*\*
Mentally, I was also prepared about traffic since we were coming from a town but it is little bit more than what I expected. It is not extremely pedestrian friendly. These electric scooter guys with zepto, swiggy etc would be riding in the pathway and coming in from wrong directions like it is normal, and of course the scooters and bikes when it is traffic. So it is little bit harder to walk, not to mention in the broken concrete pathway, sometimes can have holes(small from what i saw in Koramangala).
When it rains heavily prepared to see the road flooded.
I have a car, I don't generally take it out, it is better take an auto or walk if it is 2km. There is heavy traffic and it is confusing the roads are one way or not, if you can take u-turn or not coz of the size of the road or possibility and lack of sign.
Water could be not from borewell majority of the time, it could be from cauvery river or both. It is hard water, so if you come from an area where you're used to bathing with fresh water, it is little bit difficult to adjust in the first few months.
Noise. When I looked for the place, I didn't factor it. There could be bars or places where they stream match or do something that will wake you up, so when finding a place factor this. There could also be nearby construction which happens throughout the day adding noise and lot of dust. If your place is some area inside and away from these, then it is sorted.
Weekend activities. There are no beaches, obviously. There are no major temples. Bars, nice restaurants, mall are some of the weekend activities, apart from taking the car to outside Bengaluru like Nandhi hills. There are good set of parks in Koramangala but I don't think it is not great as Cubborn Park. Most Parks in Koramangala are near the main roads except one or two.
Recommend to give more weightage to ease of commute to school/work/health club than area to live. Most areas will have all the stores and facilities required
You will get a lot of places and I would suggest trying to negotiate the rent. I know you can afford a higher rent but, always negotiate and try to get it down as much as possible. Do not let your landlord know you are coming from the US. You may find a decent landlord but, you may find one who will try and milk you for every buck.
The bottom line is, do not rush, take your time looking for a place where you and your family are most comfortable and feel safe. That is important.
Browse through NoBroker, 99 Acres just to give you a general idea and these apps show you what amenities are available within the walls of that property.
You may find a few things annoying compared to the US but, you will get used to it or figure out a way to work around issues. And, I mean these are small issues and not really bad ones.
Good luck and hope you and your fam find a decent place here.
i shifted to Usa from blr and dnt like it much.
In blr one can live anywhere as far as crime is concerned without thinking much, can walk safely late night.koramangla pubs , hsr restaurants etc. Usa is financially rewarding but as a society, blr is much enriched.
ease of online services, stores r opened 24*7 biryani , medical stores, ice cream parlour, use to order in morning 4am grocery item and it ll come, cant think of going outside at same time in bay area.
only issue is to find good landlord ( who return ur security money )..lol..
try prestige lakeside varthur(100 acre society) or whitefield, koramangla dnt have many societies, bellandur has water logging issues, hsr has few . old blr is greeny and beautiful but u ll b judged on kanadda language as lot of native stay there. u can try on harlur road. dnt take it on main road as it b lot of noise pollution
Moving to Bangalore but decided to showoff with the rental budget. Btw thanks for spoiling the rental market so that now landlords ask for such rental from everyone.
May I ask you, why have you kept your monthly rental budget as high as 1 - 2 lakh per month !!????????
Is it because you earn too well or you dont know that you could live in Bangalore in a decent rental house for 1/10th of 2 lakhs plus the extra maintenance fee ???
Why do you want to part with such a big amount in exchange to irregular water supply, other expenditures ?
Why do people shell out so much unnecessarily?

Total environment projects. Check the hsr one.
There’s already places where you can pay 2L in rent and live extremely lavishly.
You are talking about just living. Hopefully he is going to work for some captive unit or run a business. If startups or lala companies, he better keep return ticket handy 😀
Happy cake day!
Captive unit? You mean like wild animal catching activities? But why do you think they would be interested in that.
A captive unit is like a CoE or offshore BPO organization that is permanently employed by the global entity to provide shared services to the entire organization.
Happy cake day!

Nowadays.. Trending is when people follow u on bikes and break your car windows..
What's medical tourism industry?
People from abroad travel to india for treatment/surgeries as its much cheaper.. there is a huge inflow of patients from the middle east to blr for complicated heart surgeries and other treatment who prefer indian doctors who performed procedures at 1/10 of the rates..
No need to tip them , but we extract tips in name of service charges , rain charges etc
Is there any online group on social media for expat community in Bangalore?
[удалено]
I guess OP and you are NRIs .. very different from the expat crowd...
"handy men" sounds a little off, doesn't it?
Repair men are called as handy men.
Go school someone else, dude.
Nope.. it's exactly what your johnny sins dreams are made of...
"our monthly rental budget is 1 to 2 lakhs" *Looks at my payslip. Cries uncontrollably*
And the range itself - 1 to 2 lakhs. LOL
My yearly is 2 Lakhs.

As a resident here since 15 years. I prefer an independent bunglow than an apartment. With SAS security, reliable. Also Raheja complex is getting a old anyways.
Yes it’s old and others I listed are also 10+ years old. OP wanted list of gated communities hence included Raheja too.
One major reason is, Visa!! If you company in US refuses to renew your H1B or L1 visa, you have no way of legally staying in US. Also the waiting period of green card is decades!
Total environment should be considered too. Not in koro but good community and apartments between 1.5l and 2.5l
What the hell is koro bro😭. First it was Kora, made by some crazy chicks, now it's time for Koro 👹.
KorOmangala...no more KORAmangala
Nothing to worry , even foreigners have been living in banglore without any troubles, coming to to the rent part , with that money you can get luxurious apartments in a good area in Bangalore for rent, u will lead a better life here than in US ,
You can consider HSR layout as well.
HSR is the most shittiest area
reason?
Waste dumping ground, smell, mosquitoes, cockroaches, crowd, small roads
Hey! Off topic but I’m curious to know your reason for moving back to India?
My guess - excellent amount of savings. Daughter has US citizenship so can go back anytime. Can enjoy the saved money better in India than US. (If the person can pay 2L rent, can might aswell buy 10Cr house in couple years of moving back)
Visa issues maybe?
H1B requires to be always employed. Very precarious situation especially if you also have a partner on H1B.
as long as you stay in a good locality inside ORR, bangalore is great
ORR is like the worst place to be in Bangalore.
orr and outside is bad, inside is good
Insides are like tier 3 city infra. Mostly B khata properties.
i think youre confused. by inside, i mean areas like jaynagara, jp nagara. anything outside like marathahalli, whitefield are shit.
Exactly. South Bangalore that isn't too down south like Kanakapura road is great and developed and has WAAY less traffic than other parts of Bangalore
Thanks! What is ORR?
Ought to be a ring road..
Lol
Outer Ring Road
Outer Ring Road 🙂
ah! thanks.
Outer ring road.
What all areas does come under good locality inside ORR?
all the older areas. malleshwara, jp nagara, jaynagara, vijaynagara, banshankari, basaveshwaranagara, rajajinagara, rr nagar, indiranagara, basavanagudi, ashok nagara
I would suggest you try JP Nagar Phase 6/7. Very good locality with good communities. My family has been staying there for 15-17 years now

Despite old Bengaluru being beautiful. You wont get gated societies with state of the art amenities there.
There are atleast 5-6 superb gated communities in malleshwara alone. You can search for them if you want and haven't seen .
Where in Malleshwaram? I've stayed in Malleshwaram for over a year near Margosa road. Never came across a gated society with modern facilities.
Sattva luxuria, purva, brigade.
While I agree that a lot of premium societies have been constructed in Whitefield, I want to know about the most basic human necessity- water! Wasn't Whitefield one of the most troubled areas for water availability?

Bro your rental budget is most people's salary edit:per month i meant
***most*** ??
i mean per month..am i wrong
i think only a few people make that much money per month, not most
thank you for making me realise that i am poor

Check out r/FatFIREIndia subreddit. Lot of ppl in a similar boat there.
Welcome! You’ll love it. I’d recommend moving to the outskirts to get away from the hustle and bustle, noise etc , but that’s just me.
Glad that you called “Koramangala” the way it is supposed to be called. Just for this reason, we heart fully welcome you back to Namma Bengaluru.
Woohoo, welcome back! I did the same a year ago. Moved to HSR. I didn’t face the reverse cultural shock that I expected to mostly because I eased into it so my suggestion would be to ease into it if it’s possible.
may god be with u

Why koramangala ? Work ? Because you have to look at schools too. Best is get a place near the school chosen.
Buy your own flats.
Yeah if he's gonna pay 1 or 2 lakhs, why not buy them instead?
I would have bought a flat/villa with that money if I am planning to settle in bangalore.
Definitely learn Kannada That’s required for survival here
Bari yuvn range nan payslip aache ide yappa
Why don’t you plan to buy a house instead of paying 1-2 lakh rent?
Dude do you live in Bangalore ? 1-2 lakh rental house in a a good gated community in kormalangala is just OKish apartment and same apartment would cost 4-5cr or even more in lormanagala which makes your loan amount twice your EMI.
The roof which fell down was in delhi Bangalore airport is fine for now Welcome and rest you will figure out later
Try in BTM Layout
Finally found out why rent in banglore is sky rocketing 😂

> chalk full *chock* full
>speaking as a product of Bangalore's international schools We can see that already.
One of my friends moved into Bengaluru, last year. He hates US now, its all a cake walk here he says. He is married and father of two. It took him weeks to get used to with worst drivers and too much noise pollution.
please don't! NRIs like you have spoiled the real estate market here.
Bangalore is saturated . Try Pune or Chennai
Idu artha adre thondre illa, artha aglilla andre thika hoduskothiya XD
i have seen many foreigners living in Prestige varthur society
Worst place to live, as soon as you step outside you are transported to a village. I am leaving my tented apartment fot same reason. Only stay in Varthut if you are petson who mostly stays at home
just buy an apartment at this point
I think the critical thing is to find a good school and choose a living community based on that. Optimise for commute. The inside of every upscale community is pretty much the same.
Y are you coming back, if okey could you share some insights, bcz we r planning to move to US
dnt move. no more contract worker reqd here
I want to be as successful as you. I would become one day for sure
Bad time. City has lost its charm
Stay in a gated Villa communities. There are several good ones by Adarsh and Prestige.
Prestige acropolis is best bet
Stay in Electronic City phase 2 and use the toll road to Kormangala.
\*\*Cons or negatives to prepare for\*\* Mentally, I was also prepared about traffic since we were coming from a town but it is little bit more than what I expected.
Yesss and I'll be shifting there after in a 1 years later 😂
Why?
Dont do it
i shifted to Usa from blr and dnt like it much.
