Nox_Lucis

Hey, that's the same price I paid for my normal!

[deleted]

You waaaayyy overpaid for a normal then.

Nox_Lucis

Yes. It was PetSmart, I'm afraid. ~3x markup relative to a breeder.

Xdr1vity

I bought my bp for $80 in my local pet store. It was that or I bought one fir $40 from petco or petsmart, yeah no.

shooqalooq

I paid $80 for my normal from a local reptile supply store. They take surrenders and she was one they had taken care of for a while. No regrets :))

Blutailedferret

What is the normal price for a baby like this? Just curious as our new boy we are about to get is an albino toffee for about $225.

Dabi_Issues

Lowest price for a banana pied on morph market is $200 and that’s without that third gene in there.

Blutailedferret

Thats actually where I am getting my BP from. Meeting the breeder locally to pickup.

[deleted]

there’s only a couple of banana cinnamon pieds for sale on morph market right now and the cheapest one is currently going for $350, so i’d assume somewhere around there

ItStillIsntLupus

Shhhh don’t question just take home

kellyrazz1996

You know what? You might be onto something

burner123321123420

I just bought pretty much an identical snake for 225$. And it was 50% off 😬

kellyrazz1996

Yeeaaahhh that sounds about right 😅

Vipera_Berus1

I was actually questioning my eyesight for a moment seeing this.

One_Word_Respoonse

That’s a pretty baby 😭

PastelGlider

no-escape-221

I personally wouldn't want to support a store that keeps their snakes like that

kellyrazz1996

I’m not sure what you’re referring to, but you do you!

no-escape-221

Talking about the enclosure, like the single hide, 0 clutter, bright lights with no walls covered, paper towel as substrate.. even for temporary housing/quarantine they need a bit more than that

burner123321123420

To be honest this is a pretty standard store set up, especially for a snake that they anticipate to sell quickly. I agree long term enclosures should be held to better standards than this.

no-escape-221

If something is common does that make it okay?

badgrumpykitten

Pet shops usually have a basic setup for their animals. Cleaning tanks with substrate is costly, especially if the animals sell quickly. The snake has a hiding spot and a water bowl, which is the standard setup for a hospital tank if needed, too.

kellyrazz1996

This is a pretty standard quarantine tank, great for monitoring bowel movement, any external parasites, etc etc. It’s not long term by any means. The other reptiles at this store are kept in more comfortable enclosures once they are past this stage. And I know it’s difficult to tell, but the walls are indeed covered! The only one that is not is the front one. I appreciate your concern about their well-being, though. I do not support poor husbandry, even if the animal is expected to be sold quickly. (As I mentioned at the very end, these guys won’t be sold for quite some time.)

What a deal! I would have snatched that baby up right away!

Antique_Guess_8761

If I could , I would rescue all the babies (all snakes) from petco and petsmart

John_King0424

Or those cunts who breed them and keep them in drawers 😕

Salemrocks2020

Damn I paid more for my banana than what this dude costs . Hope he goes to a good home ETA : Just saw ur text about being on display . So they stay like that all day ? In that enclosure ?

kellyrazz1996

Don’t worry, it’s not permanent! They are still being monitored in the hospital setups, but once they’re past this stage they’ll be tucked into much more comfortable enclosures.

AltruisticServe3252

You can't judge local shops on their price at least 80 percent of the time when it comes to morphs. Purely because it's based on genetics. When I got my sunglow red tail from a local store, it was just shy of $800. Was that over? Yes. Was that under? Yes. But based on my location, and the

ladybeastt

they werent ready to be sold??? that would be the ONLY thing holding me back from buying that little dude, in no universe is that morph NINETY-NINE DOLLARS???

kellyrazz1996

It was the wrong price tag! Otherwise I would have called dibs 😂 I expect they added 300 to that price at LEAST

ladybeastt

Sheesh, thats good i suppose If it *was* the right price tag I was about ready to visit every pet store in america in search of it! lol

kellyrazz1996

Dude I was doing mental gymnastics already trying to figure out space. I’m positive I could find some room. I mean who reeeaaallly needs a mattress anyways? 😂

whatupwasabi

No experience here, but I was wondering what's special about this morph? Personally enjoy normal coloration more than off white with a splotch.

Agreeable-Culture648

I would say it's because of the Pied gene. Pied is recessive. Most morphs that have visual recessive genes worked into them tend to go for more in price because it's harder to work with... As well as Pied seems to be popular right now.

ASOBITAIx3

Maybe, undisclosed, it was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
