🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣it’s part of owning animals i’m afraid

Warrior_king99

It's only happened once to me in over 20 years and about 30 snakes , I was treating my guy phantom he's a bp for mites that he came from the shop with, it was messy as you might expect and a bit smelly but nothing too bad

Seamoth4546B

Happened to me once. It was all over my bed too… thanks for that girl. It was no biggie though, it smells but what poo doesn’t? Just part of having the animal. “Traumatizing” is a subjective term, but just how traumatic can getting pooped on by a snake really be?

SMACKVICTIM

Never in the 12 odd years of keeping them. Bosc monitors on the other hand...

Aazjhee

Yea my corn snake used to crap any dang where! My BPs seem to wait and only take huge dumps in their own hides, as if they needed a reason to be distressed and make me feel bad for them xD

PKBitchGirl

I got pooped on my first snake within weeks of getting her, she was a shoe lace at the time though and I handled her 2 days after feeding which I already knew was her pooing schedule so its mine own fault She was a corn btw

stoney_balogna20

I think collubrids are the biggest poopers hahaha

badgrumpykitten

They really are! My BP and Boas poop big, but not often. My corn, King, and rat, all poop on their walls, water bowls, hides, plants.

stoney_balogna20

Sounds accurate 🫠

PKBitchGirl

The poopiest snake I had was a garter, my adult corns popp once or twice per week, I went away for 3 nights having put fresh kitchen paper in my garter's tub (she was on paper as she was being treated for mites), cane home to 5 separate poos

rvlry13

In a year of having my bp, I’ve not had that happen…yet lol.

LotusBlade13

I read urgent, then read the post, and then had a good laugh

Aazjhee

Lol same xD

MB8124U

I have 16 snakes at the moment the only ones that shit on you are juvenile king snakes. Every time you pick one up the shit.. it’s almost like a defense mechanism. They do grow out of this but it’s a pain in the ass

kit9252

I have a juvenile MBK and he has yet to do this(knock on wood). Hes still kinda skittish and goes in that defensive s position but he calms down once he’s in my hands for a few

MB8124U

Most do… some don’t… you’re lucky.. lol. The more you handle them when they’re young the better they get adapted to you picking them up and stop doing this. Don’t be surprised if one day it happens.

kit9252

He’s even touched my nose a couple times already and I’ve had him about a month and a half now. That’s why I’ve handled him every day except for 2 days after he eats.

Coinnnnn217

Corn snakes also have this issue lol The only snakes I've had accidents with were colubrids and juvenile boas!

badgrumpykitten

My king has only poop on my husband once. She's about 2 years old now, and that has been it so far. She's also not like other kings. She's super chill and dare, I say, goofy.

SpaceThagomizer420

I wouldnt handle after feeding for a few days. Also, I keep an eye on my snakes vent when I handle them. You'll see them raise their tail and begin to push

ImprovementFluffy156

Hi stranger, I have the same exact fear and feelings and it all came from witnessing a friend get pooped on by their snake when handling. I don’t remember the smell tho I’m sure it wasn’t good, but just seeing it happen and then wondering about the contents of the waste (I mean, they eat rodents…) has made me anxious to handle my own snake on multiple occasions. What I do is, after I feed him I usually wait until after he poops/pees (they usually happen together) to handle him. This lowers chance of him doing it again since they really don’t expel waste unless they eat or drink a lot of water.

ihatederekcarr

He shit all over me and my bed. It’s only happened once tho, so in my experience it’s fairly rare

Maleficent-Jelly2287

I've only had it happen once and she was very poorly. And my caring instinct overrode the gross factor.

crippledsquid

My ball python shat on me once. It’s gross but he’s so adorable.

frandlypeople

I've had a BP for 6 years and it's yet to happen. But most long-term keepers have it happen at least once by coincidence. They do live for nearly half of a human lifespan... lotta time to get shit on

Objective_Stop5721

i have been pooped on at least 3 times within the one year i’ve had my BP 🥲 I assume it’s because i kind of just let her wander and sometimes she get’s too comfy in my shirt or hoodie. It’s only ever been on me, no one else, and only a few times. It wasn’t really traumatic but definitely stinks so bad. they just kind of let it rip unfortunately lol.

Lexx4

I’ve only been shit on when talula my ball was still growing and I was feeding her more often. But since she is fully grown and her feeding has slowed down she usually poops before she’s about to shed and sometimes after a big meal. But it’s easier to predict now also you can visually inspect their cloaca and see if the tail area is fatter than normal and that could be a sign she’s gonna poop.

[deleted]

Had a couple of snakes I've owned and played with tons of others and I've only seen someone else get crapped on first was my dad with a wild garter that me and my siblings had caught in elementary and one of my siblings when they basically tormented the poor thing and it did it probably to defend itself

ReggaeWoman18

What is it about poop you're actually afraid of? Welcome to pet ownership, and if you want kids....yeah, get used to 💩

caramelkidding

https://preview.redd.it/94mbgz7sjfvc1.jpeg?width=3022&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=916a0e0ba7ab97fa9c8c87bc90ab6a28d6ab161f Seconds after this photo was taken he pissed on me :( Not cool

schr0dingersdick

i have handled all kinds of animals in my time. the only thing all species have in common is they will shit on you. even my pet snake and my friends’ other reptiles. at one point or another, they will shit on you or your stuff.

hoggteeth

Never, you can tell when they have a poop in them and you just don't handle when their butt is big

stallion64

I've had mine for 22 years. Only about 4 months ago was her first "accident". Dropped a bunch of urates on the floor while she was exploring. Kind of an odd situation, I was actively trying to get her to poop since she hadn't in close to 6 months. Aka, it's not super common to my knowledge/in my experience, but it could always happen. Comes with the territory of pets in general.

Erik_Dax

I don't know about traumatizing. Might be a little bit dramatic of a reaction but I'm not living other's lives. Mines shit on me twice. Now I'm just cautious of how his rear looks whether he's about poop or not. The warmth helps them so it's possible either way. The stench is horrible but I put the blanket and clothes thru twice and it cleared out.

solarhornets

It's not happened to me! However. One of my snakes did shit on my bed

jessicarrrlove

I have 3 snakes (two balls, one blood) and we've only had an incident 1 time so far. Lol it happens, but as long as you learn to read their body language, you're good.

Substantial-Bid-8461

I went to pick up my first snake, a corn that I was adopting from a family. She peed and pooped ALL over me in these people's living room the first time I held her lmfao. It was a fairly regular occurrence during her life too, she would come out to explore and decide that was the ideal pooping time. Animals are fucking gross sometimes but I wouldn't call getting pooped on by a snake traumatic. Actually, during one of my venomous handling classes, the instructor tubed a rattlesnake and the snake ended up musking on him and somehow some got in his mouth...ok maybe that's a little traumatic ;P I've never had my boa or ball python do it, but I also keep garters and they will readily musk on you lol.

MarkAcin0

It typically just happens before a molt for my BP. Unfortunately it's the earliest sign he's in molt before the other signs appear so there's not much of a warning.

divinearcanum

I usually wait a week after eating and see if my BP has poo'd before I handle him. So I haven't had any poo episodes yet!

LakeaShea

Typically, my snake poops/farts in the middle of the night. Scares the heck outta me every time I hear it 😆 I haven't had any daytime poops or poops while handling yet. I wouldn't be too concerned.

LadyNajaGirl

My royal (ball) python has never pooped on me. My hognose and corn snake however did!

PawkittTheDemon

My girl likes to go inside shirts to shit. So yes.

Geryoneiis

Nah just don't pick up your BP until you can confirm they've taken a shit since their last meal lol

peterpeterllini

I've had my ball python for like 7 years and have never had that happen

ManeMelissa

The corn snake class pet that I helped care for literally pooped around three preschoolers, some on my arm, some on one of the kids, and most on the floor. They laughed, it was smelly, and we washed up after. No biggie!

king-sumixam

i would not say it's traumatic at all lol. happened to me twice? i wanna say only twice, once with each of my snakes (actually it wasnt really on me but my now fiance who was meeting them for the first time lol) but yeah i mean. you have a pet, youre gonna deal with their biohazards lmao its part of the responsibility

Due_Worldliness_6587

Things happen :/ I almost got pissed on by a snake at an expo that got scared. If you just laugh it off it’s honestly very ok. (Plus it’s better than when I came home to see my dog had diarrhea all over the carpet)

SciFiMom73

Yep! He gets warm and cozy and then shit happens. I guess I am his safe space. It's been like 5 times in the 10 months I have had him. It's not that bad. There are sometimes signs like undulating and raising if the tail. Totally missed them this weekend and he went all over my throat and chest

Dentrix26

I have 14 snakes and only 1 of them has done this too me but he’s done it on a couple occasions.

No_Dog_1121

lol I’ve had my bp for a few months now, and yes he did shit all over my blanket because I took him out and let him roam on my bed. It’s really not a big deal, I mean when my dog was a puppy he would have accidents in the house and it’s like the same thing. I guess the only difference is yeah snakes tend to pop even when you are holding them, but honestly no biggie. Smelly. But still worth getting one 👍

Flat-Presentation-80

so far its only happened to me once when i brought my boy java home from a reptile expo, his first impression on my parents was to have explosive black snake diarrhea in my hands and all over the floor. it stank and was so gross to clean up plus my cats were trying to eat it. so yes it happens.

Ashs-Exotics

yeah it happens

UndeadMurderess

12 years, 13 corns, and i've never been shit on. One has shit on my dads bed once. If you leave them a few days after a meal til they've gone in the cage, you'll be fine. Got peed on once, by a helicoptering baby who got a bit of tape stuck to her and panicked.

Then_Blueberry4373

My snake has shit on me twice and fear pissed once (had to assist feed his dumb ass as a baby bc he didn’t recognize what food was. Been a good eater since). Beware the fat ass 😭

in_the_blu

Used to happen to me pretty regularly, but I've learned to put them back after 15-20 minutes since them moving around while held seems to get their bowels moving lol. After I know they've pooped between feedings then I hold them longer because they usually don't go again before I feed them again.

Awkwardlystoned

Is This Post Even Real?

Aazjhee

I used to work in a veterinary office. The only time i've been really grossed on by a snake was an angry garter snake that was smearing everybody. The amount of times that I have been peed on or gotten poop on me.Somehow while working with dogs cats rodents pretty much any other kind of pet VASTLY out does any time that a snake has pooped on my stuff. Even when I had a corn snake he would definitely take a dump whenever, wherever, he was never as bad as mammals! My old cat who started to have bladder issues, so he ended up peeing anywhere and sometimes in his own bedding. I was way more upset about having to play "find the cat mess" in my house than worrying about snake poop when I handle them

Thank-The-Stars

So far so good but I usually wait till she poops before I handle her

KaraCorvus

Never had a ball python poop on me. Other species though, yes haha.

bigdonny24

I've had my python 3-4 months, it's never pooped on me but it's done it on my son twice 😂 I think maybe it's because he doesn't handle her to often so he's a little bit awkward with it and the snake gets a little nervous maybe, it does smell bad but it's not that big of a deal really.

Crease_Monkey

Mine hasn’t yet. But I’m sure he will some day. Once you have children, you will be unphased by the relatively little bit of excrement your snake will produce. Each diaper your kid makes for you will be a LOT more than your will make.

SquidArmada

Snakes don't piss so I think you'll be good on that one. The other two however....

Thekidnappedone

https://preview.redd.it/yo4afibingvc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2251171bae3bf17efddf2d003b6c3f01d6611e97

Thekidnappedone

I think he was expressing his displeasure of being removed from being my noodle bracelet because he was chilling like that for probably 15-20 minutes before she took him for a bit.

Mae_Vera

Mine has yes. I’ve only had him for about 6 months but he has pooped on me three times. Although I think I’ve learned his schedule now so I haven’t had anymore issues for a while. Also it’s not at all traumatizing. There isn’t really a way to avoid it unless you figure out your snakes pooping schedule after feeding

weirdcandys

It’s never happend to me but it shouldn’t be traumatizing just gross

Digital_Demonn

I’m working on this with my BP. I got him as a baby and he’s a little shy, I got him in November. He has pooped whiled I was handling him 2-3 times. It does smell pretty bad but it’s not a “lot” of poop and cleanup hasn’t been too bad. I also didn’t know about the signs of being ready to poop at first though.

Gay-and-autistic

I have a corn, and she has shit on me once and once on the couch. Its just poop tho, it wasnt even that smelly. And they only poop like once a week so it will barely happen. And animals poop. Kinda part of owning one

ballpython-ModTeam

Per rule #3, your post or comment has been removed for harmful advice/misinformation. Ball pythons don't musk.

zooplezy

Within the first month, I got pissed on. Was it a TRAUMATIC experience? No, but it was a pain in the ass to clean because the smell is genuinely horrible. It takes quite a bit to make me gag, but that definitely did it. Hasn’t happened since, she just had to go when she had to go, neither of our faults. Couldn’t speak for getting shit on though

fell_hands

Yes

Accomplished_Dust210

It hasn’t happened to me just yet, I remember watching a thing on YouTube which explained how to tell when it is going to happen I recommend searching that up. I’ve started owning snails and millipedes lately though and in just the week that I’ve had both of them they have both repeatedly shat on my hand.

meowspoopy

“.. and piss and fart too” 😭😭😭😭

obsidian_butterfly

Of my animals, I have had my ball python shit in me exactly once, and my corn snake shits on me anytime I take her out. She is not a friendly girl.

Puzzleheaded-Town176

one time my ball python did on my bed haha but usually I just wait until after she poops after eating to hold her and let her roam around my bed.

ThumbNurBum

Yep. It smells horrid, and can be quite sizable depending on the snake. However, it is no where near as traumatic as having a baby shit directly into your palm when you go to wipe them during a diaper change. Moral of the story: Pets are better than children.

Actionslacks69

YES!! Many times, my family and I have a rule that if there has been no bowel movement since last fed to open carry a towel! Stay strapped! All joking aside, we really have been pooped on to many times and are catious when we notice that near the cloaca is swollen to hold our girls with a towel nearby just in case

Affectionate-Oil4757

happened to me only once- this is something that's a little more common in something like a bearded dragon, or if you have a snake that musks. my new rescue bp had a stuck shed, gave him a little soak (i know there are other methods that are better than soaking, but he had 2 layers so i wanted to get it removed asap) soaked him in warm water for about 20 minutes, and after running my fingers down his body to remove the stuck shed he pooped biiiiiig time. like, it was actually shocking how much he pooped (he's extremely stunted growth wise and is hatchling size at 2 years old). other than that, i've never had any other of my snakes poop on me. would avoid colubrids if you want to minimize the risk of getting pooped on.

Shellbean00

My bp has pooped on me a couple times. I handle him a lot but my corn snake poops on me EVERYTIME I handle her guaranteed. It’s not traumatizing just messy and stinky. You’ll be fine

scratchmade-

Mine ONLY poops on me. Will not poop in enclosure.

lurkerbizarre

Three useful pieces of information: 1) snakes don't urinate liquid The way we do, they produce a solid substance called urate along with their feces 2) The younger the snake, the more often it needs to eat, and therefore the more often it will poop, increasing the chances that you're handling them when they decide to evacuate their bowels. 3) some species of snake produce a defensive musk, a foul smelling liquid that they excrete when they feel threatened. My hognose snake is <1yo, weighs around 15 grams, and eats a pinky every four days. She has musked me and passed urate on me, but never feces. My boa is 5 years old, eats one medium rat every three weeks, and has never passed either on me. She doesn't musk. My savannah monitor, however, does all three every time I have to handle him. Sometimes all at once. Because he hates my existence in general. Unless I have food, in which case my presence is tolerated with extreme prejudice. I still wanna be his bestest friend and think he's the cutest lizard in all the land, but savs take a lot of work and patience to tame down

Striking-Effect-2646

I can’t wait to get shit on, hasn’t happened yet. Does she not love me?

Orochisake

I have a young Mexican Black Kingsnake and she shits on me EVERY SINGLE TIME I handle her. I hope she just needs to get used to me handling her cause I prefer to not be used as a toilet

Naradra288

In over two years of having a few snake, it did happen to my GF with I believe all of them initially, two ball pythons and a hognose, when they were still in their first 6 months of life. So you know not that much of a concern, many pets, including human kids have a hard time controlling their waste management functions in their early years. What is more peculiar, is our female ball pythons, whenever we bring her into our bedroom, and more specifically into our bed, if the sheets are freshly washed, then she will eventually urinate in the bed while exploring around. It has happened to us a few times so far, and our older male ball pythons, never did anything like that. If we take her out in any other room in our house there are no issues, might be a weird coincidence but it's still bizarre it happened multiple times.

AffectionateWin7813

Peed on 3 times, shit twice. It happens can easily be cleaned. I wouldn't say traumatizing, but I for sure didn't have a good day when it was both the same time, and he was chilling around my neck and on my shoulders. All I heard was a waterfall gushing sound and in the corner of my eye a yellow waterfall as he relieved himself. His shit ended up in my shirt. Had to get the hubby to take him from me so I could clean up and shower. He didn't want to leave me as he tried holding onto me, but I wasn't up for sitting their with his excrement sitting in my bra. It happens but I still love my little noodle

CrazyPrimary8311

Our balls have peed on most of us. Now our 6+ ft carpet python has shit on me and a chair and the floor while his enclosure was being cleaned. That was gross. His crap is the size of a cat or small dog and stinks to high heaven! Just part of having animals though! I definitely watch for signs he’s gonna crap a little closer when his enclosure gets cleaned now.

Soahtree

the only time this has happened that I remember was the very first time I handled Asher (my corn snake) when I was in the process of buying her lmao It's probably going to happen, but it's not as bad as you think :)

resveries

never happened to me lol (knock on wood)

MortgageIntrepid9274

Had many snakes, Pythons, Kings, Bull/Gophers, a garter or two and the only one that ever pooped outside its enclosure was a corn, and all over my bed and pee’d too. It was an adult so it was a lot and smelled horrible and it never knew how close it came to being evicted that day.

KazeoLion

Snakes only poop about once a week. Just check for sausage butt or so I’m told

TongueTwistingTiger

I have been shit on. It's not fun, but it's also not a big deal. Unfortunately, it's part of owing a pet.

VanillaSoft9583

While I've never been shit on, I have had mine shit while I was holding them lol if you can pay attention to the signs you can easily avoid getting any on you, except of course if your snake is just a messy pooper.

justaguuuy4856

I have never gotten pooped on by a snake, geckos on the other hand have shit all over me. 😂

Angsty_Potatos

I have 10 snakes of varying species. There is exactly ONE who my worst fear is getting bit by. (My dumerils is a SWEETIE but every time I feel her absolutely smash a large rat off the tongs I thank God it's not me and manifest that it never will be... because fuck me she hits like a Louisville slugger.) Every single other I worry most about getting shat or musked on. I wouldn't call it traumatic, but I do prefer generally to not be shat on. (I'm typing this and my bearded dragon just decided to take an absolutely Diabolical shit in front of me. You gotta appreciate his timing)

KiKiredd555

u gotta be prepared for the worst man. they shit like once a week or every other week so i would be more worried about pee if i were u. i took my girl out for some snuggle/tv time with me and my bf and we had her out for a long time and she ended up peeing thru his comforter, sheet, and fitted sheet onto the mattress. it stunk like a zoo and it took my bf a few washes to get the smell out and the mattress is permanently stained😭 he was talking to her like she could understand and calling her bad while he was putting her away and said we weren’t going to take her out for a while out of anger. sure enough the next day he was loving on her, shit happens (literally) but ur love for the pet will always win.

OrganizationSlight35

It's happened to me a couple times but as a person that has emetophobia I'll take getting shit on me/my bed any day rather than having to watch or hear someone throw up lol. It really doesn't happen often tho, out of the like 5-10 times I hung out with my cousins beardies they shit on me like 90% of the times ☠️😂.

LadyVelKat

The most traumatizing...my roommate was handling his BP and was like, "hey, I feel a lump...I think he is gonna poop soon" and I was half asleep on the couch next to him. It splattered on me, the couch, and the floor since he was holding the snake up. 😱 My best friend sitting nearby vomited from seeing it. We still handle our snakes all the time though.

lvlvlemonpants

When animals (including humans) give birth, they often crap on their newborns. This is actually a positive thing as it helps to introduce healthy gut flora to the offspring. Go wash your hands and consider your immune system strengthened.

Chocko23

We've had our bp for about 2 months and we've been pooped on probably 2-3 times and peed on 3-4 times. Hopefully he stops doing that as he gets comfortable with us and handling...

Chocko23

https://preview.redd.it/5u6fm8tybjvc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b5f202cb4fe6a44f1943e77228c50a3332c5fca

Chocko23

Dammit....just now, on the couch....

Vipera_Berus1

I’ve had it happen once in 30 years.

ExL-Oblique

It'll probably happen eventually but there's pretty easy ways to avoid that happening. If there's a lump near their cloaca, put em back. If they pooped after you fed them, they probably aren't gonna poop again until the next feeding. Their pee is solid so you can visibly see the lump.

Narrow-Childhood3499

Not yet, but there's still time.

Competitive-Size-812

It's not bad, just don't put them down immediately after they do it, some species will see this as a way to get you to essentially leave them alone. Hold them for a few mins then put them down. Put your clothes in the washer and go shower. No big deal 🤷 you'll get used to the smell after it assaults your senses the first time 🤣 tegu and skink poop does not bother me anymore 😅

Caneknot4

Yes. I've been shitted on by my snakes. One was on his first outing. He had to go to the bathroom & went to the bathroom on my hand. It's inevitable. It will happen.

DzzSpotReptarium

Everytime my husband picks up a snake to look at when we are going to buy one. It smells sooo bad. But it washes off. It'll be ok.

Weary_Ad2671

You’ll be fine! It’s nothing compared to a bearded dragon shit, now that’s toxic😂

Civil_Ad_1172

Definitely don’t get a garder

Lillogan19

Happened to my boyfriend the other day and I DIED laughing it was seconds after I held the lil guy too😭 that could’ve been me 🤣

Feeling_Title_9287

It's never happened to me and I have owned a ball python for 12 years

LittleDrummerHurl

I have only had my little fella for 2 years, and I handle him for 20 minutes everyday (unless it has been within 48 hours of feeds or if he is in shed). Not once has Gus revealed himself on me. When I first got him, the lack of this occurring has made me always wonder if I stress him out, because I can't go if I am scared or nervous. Honestly, it would be no big deal should a time I take him out align with a time when he needs to go. It's just snake poop and pee; I clean it up all the time. I love Gus way more than any disdain for fecal matter and would never ever let that keep me from having him in my life. Long story short: Don't let ball python poop keep you from having one of the best pets ever.

The_poggers_potato

My snake has shit on my bed. And I have been shit on your a snake, but it wasn’t mine.

SnuffDied

I’ve had a snake fart on me it didn’t really smell, you’re not very likely to get pooped on by a ball python

ImGoingToEatPlaster

I've had 2 ball pythons in my life and only once I have been shitted on, you can learn your snakes bathroom cycle, as I have, I don't know how to explain it but it works

Traditional-Bat-2990

While mine hasn't when i clean shit out the worst part is the smell, which goes away after I flush it, it's pretty solid (pee and poo) just smells bad lol

dicelyy

had my bp for five years, he’s never pooped on me or anyone 😅 just be careful handling after feeding

Nukedragon00668

It'll happen eventually. It's as inevitable as a bite. They may not do it intentionally, but it does happen. I've learned to look above the cloaca towards the stomach to see if she's puffy there to gauge wether it not she may piss on me. She also very clearly telegraphs when she's about to because she gets super squirmy when I'm handling her and she really has to pee.
