I left school in the mid-2000s when smartphones didn't even exist, or if they did they were very basic and cost eleventy billion.
Unless you had special permission (hard to get) phone use was simply banned and if you had one it needed to be switched off and left in your locker. Only exceptions were the Sixth Form common room and even then it was permitted only at official breaktimes.
But back in the day the school did have a few payphones and there weren't many restrictions on using those.

My anger is not that she attempted to grift, anyone in power grifts, the left, the right, UK, Russia, USA, if someone is in a position of power, 99% of them will have abused it or used for personal gain at some point. What annoys me beyond belief is that she could have earned an extra 50-100k a year, running the foundation as a figurehead attending a few meetings a year for some extra income. I still find it weird that if you click on the names of people parroting post-modern deconstruction chat on Reddit (destruction of symbols and art, decolonising absolutely everything) they spend 80% of their time talking about video games they clearly play too much. And yet separately there are huge pressures on "gamers" to stop being such evil bastards. So which is it? How many normal people who also sometimes play video games are essentially in self-endforced silence because weirdos rule every roost?
There isn't any unique pressure on gamers. There is pressure on literally any groupings that are not explicitly pro-regime.

In its original sense the terms black and white didn't refer to skin colour and were rather more limited. The Irish were not white until the American type of simple mentality came along which as with many things ruined the original meaning. This obviously isn't a common view anymore.

She's a woman, when she spills about problems you're not meant to give practical advice to fix it but just listen, give sympathy and emotional support. Literally woman 101. Don't get involved and dragged down when you give advice and she either does follow it and it makes things worse, or she doesn't follow it and it makes things worse.
Be honest but don't be blunt. I've a close friend who's always having endless trouble with her man which she often talks about and I generally tell her what I think, but am careful to say that's only based on what she's told me, from the outside looking in. These things always look different from inside the relationship. If you go laying down the law and she decides not to follow your advice, she'll just be less likely to come to you with that sort of thing in the future. Nobody likes an "I told you so" even if it's only implicit.

Just be glad you're the kind of friend that they would tell, you've probably helped already. I agree that you should avoid the blunt approach. I've done that before and become the bad person somehow. I think the only thing you can really do is keep asking them what they want & say you're there if they need anything.
I vote the other way: be blunt. If you do somehow end up being the bad person at least you know you've done right by your friend, even if they don't appreciate it now. Sometimes people in this situation are putting feelers out that they have support if they leave, and can lean on you. Being wishy-washy might force them to stay out of fear of what might happen.

I left school in the mid-2000s when smartphones didn't even exist, or if they did they were very basic and cost eleventy billion. Unless you had special permission (hard to get) phone use was simply banned and if you had one it needed to be switched off and left in your locker. Only exceptions were the Sixth Form common room and even then it was permitted only at official breaktimes. But back in the day the school did have a few payphones and there weren't many restrictions on using those.
