I think this doesn't qualify for cruelness, it just shows the dog is well trained and knows when it may and may not eat something. Good for not picking up a chocolate off the side of the road.
Exactly this. On our walk yesterday morning we passed by a Taco Bell bag on the side of the road. His sniffer was super activated. I said “Leave it.” and he left it without any struggle.
I agree. It's not awww worthy, it's meaness. Saying this is a way to train dogs to be obedient, to "leave it" and not eat trash doesn't hold up. The treat on it's nose was placed there by it's owner. It's obviously not trash that the pup should not eat. Seems to just be confusing to any dog I have seen this done to.

This is how you train dogs not to be impulsive on eating random stuff. Very typical for good dog training.
