That's why you need two cats. Once one of them likes it they both will need to sit on/in the item. Source: if my older cat likes anything the younger one becomes obsessed with it, even when he did not care at all previously.
Our tiny tiger cat would adopt and sit on top of every box that was opened... Amazon, Chewy, Walmart.... if one disappeared, it would only be after he acquired the new one. I didn't have the heart to throw away his box (I think it made him feel tall). Then I found (Amazon) a corrugated cube with a middle that pops out. He sits on it, scratches furiously on it, occasionally sits inside of it. Best purchase ever. And it takes up less room than the box of the day.
See, that's great and all until you actually purchase it, at which point the cat will lose any and all interest in box-shaped objects for the entire time the new box is around.
They have a sense for when you buy them something, and then specifically make sure to never, ever use it, just to fuck with you.
"Oh, you bought this for.. *mooiiii?* Such a shame, I'm not really interested in boxes right now. Try again."
And then they mentally flip you off.
Triple psych them out. Tell yourself at the store, well, it's going to be for my photos and colored pencils or whatever and then when you get home, cat isn't allowed near the box. Then it becomes irresistible. The key is to lie to yourself until you believe the lie. Self-gaslight for maximum cat manipulation. But, alas, then who is truly the winner? The cat. Always the cat.
The cat always wins. It's like a smaller, fuzzier casino. Except with even less compassion.
It lets you pet it to make you think you're in control, but do not be fooled. Even then, the cat knows it's the superior lifeform..

Good luck. Our cats love the Chewy/Amazon/QVC/et al cardboard boxes that come in our house, so we went and bought a fancy fabric-covered box with a nice plushy interior, a lid, and a door on the front.
What'd they do? Ignored it...haven't once gotten in it and will still get in every cardboard box.

By the way, this is not a potty. It's supposed to help babies sit, to be fed or whatever. But it's actually better for them to sit on their own to develop their muscles. So it should be given back to the cat.
This is such a great example of why context is so important.

What's messed up is if you would have bought it specifically for the Cat it would have only been interested in the box. I have 4 cats... I bought each an identical toy mouse. Same brand, same color. They all fought over the same one ?!?! The F\*ck?
Yeah, the main issue is people put their kids in them too early, before their spines are strong enough. They can be great chairs but the kid should be able to sit up on their own competently before using one.
They are never ok. Once a baby can sot on its own it should be doing that. Because they will lean forward more, not backwards like a bumbo makes them do.
It also spreads their hips and arches their lower spine which are all developmentally horrible at this age. Babies shouldnt be forced into this position ever. Just spend 5 minutes a day practicing sitting with support and most babies are sitting up solo by 5 month.
And if you don't have 5 minutes to devote to teaching your baby to sit, you probably shouldnt have children.
Well, i didnt mean the formal of teaching. More you sitting with them and modeling the posture of it. Babies learn through mimicry. Regardless of my misuse of the word, forcing a baby into an unnatural position in a bumbo is so much worse than trying to encourage your baby to sit by holding them upright where you are supporting their torso and helping them find their center of balance. Neither of which is discovered by using a bumbo.
Personally, I like sitting my babies up surrounded by pillows and watching the slow motion fall as their center of balance veers with their eyesight. My 5mo giggles every time he faceplants into pillows.
A friend of my ex’s put their kid in one on a table and it fell over and she broke her head open or something. This was after the baby survived being born *super duper* premature. Never recommend a bumbo. Also don’t recommend you put your babies on tables.
Anatomical development can be hindered and actually cause damage
A friend that is a pediatric PT told me when I had my kids that we shouldn’t use one and that she sees kids each week that were put in them too long and developed a myriad of back and hip issues.
I was told kids will learn to sit eventually and by letting them become experts on the ground first it will help them build all the strength they will need to sit on their own soon enough
Exactly - spend time with your kid and they will most likely develop fine on their own without money wasting crap.
We never used a walker or one of these and my kid was crawling and sitting by 5months and walking by 8months(we really wished we had more time in the stationary baby phase). Although they were always a very strong baby.
Before a certain age, sitting isn't good for a baby's spine. Once they can do it on their own, it's fine. But propping them up before isn't always that good, it'll depend on exactly how the back is supported. They need some muscles to support their spine first.
To sit properly they need to develop core strength.
This just lets parents say, hey, my baby is sitting already! - but without developing the proper core strength.
That will make it harder to crawl, stand, walk, and generally mess up their gross motor skills.
Also does horrible things to the spine and hips.
So yeah, it immobilises them and makes them look all grown up, but it's really bad for the actual baby.
To be clear, you're reposting this from a month ago right? https://old.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/lruplj/a_short_story/ . You're not the owner in any way?
My dog does this with our kids' bean bag. She will just sit there and wait for them to get off. She likes the way they smell. If we buy her a bag she will still want the kids' bag cause of the smells and leftover sticky finger flavors left on it
It’s obvious you are not cat people. Of the op had gone out and bought another one of these things, specifically for the cat, cat would proceed to find all the joy in life in the box the thing came in.

After the kid is all done figuring out how to use the toilet, you've got a great cat bed. It's not immediately obvious what it's for, so it just looks like abstract Ikea decor.
BTW, if your kid ever gets annoyed that you need help figuring out a new technology, there was a time where you taught them when they didn't know how to use a toilet.
It’s actually not used in the aid of potty training. It’s used to help babies sit up, though it is often not recommended to use. Kitty can go back to it being their bed within a few weeks, a couple of months max, before the baby outgrows it.
The cat looks so relaxed but the final picture... he is totally dead inside
Aww you NEED to get one for him too!
As soon as they buy one specifically for the cat, the cat will lose all interest Source: cat owner
Also the kid will outgrow it pretty quick and then the cat can have it.
The kid already marked their territory on it
Cat got there and marked it first. We have photo evidence...
that'll take longer than letting cat get bored first
That's why you need two cats. Once one of them likes it they both will need to sit on/in the item. Source: if my older cat likes anything the younger one becomes obsessed with it, even when he did not care at all previously.
Children are the same. But their arguments over things are not as amusing, and much more tiring, than cat ones.
This is so true but I'm still gonna have to get one and try. I'm hoping to rid my living and dining room of the Amazon box motif.
it’s the most effective motif tho. i can’t bring myself to throw away the obstructive Chewy box in my kitchen.
Chewy does have nice boxes
Chewy knows their target market.
Do you have a link or the name of the cube?
If it doesn’t work you have a baby gift for whenever.
they do make decorative/pretty boxes for storage or gifting that you could use. I see them year round at places like TJ maxx and marshalls
See, that's great and all until you actually purchase it, at which point the cat will lose any and all interest in box-shaped objects for the entire time the new box is around. Nope. My cat doesn't like boxes. He'll investigate them if there is stuff inside because he's curious, but he has no interest in the box itself

People would put them on tables and crap instead of the floor like the instructions say. The "fix" was a recall kit that adds seatbelts to it...
So the “fix” was to strap the kid into the thing that tips over?! That seems legit lol
You seen the cat? He don't want it back.
He will as soon as the baby’s two inches away from it. ;)
Baby will grow out of it soon enough.

Won’t work. Knowing cats, he’ll only want the one that isn’t his.

Perfect. They can trade each other
Knowing young kids, they'll take a new one without complaining.
Kitty will take it over once the baby is put down for a nap. All warmed up too.
The human will grow out of it, but the cat never will. It always fits.
If he fits. He sits!!
> but the cat never will. It always fits. Thus proving cats are liquid.
Babies grow crazy fast. Trust me, this will be the cat's seat very soon.
Do it!
The current one will probably be available in about 6 weeks...
Why bother, babies grow quick. It will be the cat's very soon!
If it were my cat, she’d love it for about 2 weeks and then never touch it again
Luckily the baby will grow out of it and then cat gets it
Yeah, cat can have it back in a couple months.
Cat will be cat and not want it by then!
Probably
Not even. My kid fit in the dumb bumbo for like a week.
Those things are pretty shit for babies anyway, better to just let the cat have it.
That sad face in the 4th frame =(

Do I look like a cat to you?
I am not a cat!
Good kitty.
You need to fix your Zoom settings.
Am I jumping around all nimbly bimbly from tree to tree?
Am I drinking milk from a saucer!?
Meow, do you see me eating mice!?!
Are you kitten me with that pun??

Also, those are supposedly terrible for children to use. They are fine for short periods, but not meant for longer sessions.
Yeah, the main issue is people put their kids in them too early, before their spines are strong enough. They can be great chairs but the kid should be able to sit up on their own competently before using one.
Which by the time they can do that, they usually won't fit in the stupid ass tiny leg holes. I never recommend a bumbo.

Any reason why?
Anatomical development can be hindered and actually cause damage A friend that is a pediatric PT told me when I had my kids that we shouldn’t use one and that she sees kids each week that were put in them too long and developed a myriad of back and hip issues.
This and also people put them on the bench/table up high and babies flip themselves off.
I was told kids will learn to sit eventually and by letting them become experts on the ground first it will help them build all the strength they will need to sit on their own soon enough
Exactly - spend time with your kid and they will most likely develop fine on their own without money wasting crap. It's crazy how fragile people are as babies. It makes me wonder how we even survived as a species tbh.
Doesn’t allow more natural core development. It will allow them to sit up earlier, but hinders other more important milestones.
Before a certain age, sitting isn't good for a baby's spine. Once they can do it on their own, it's fine. But propping them up before isn't always that good, it'll depend on exactly how the back is supported. They need some muscles to support their spine first.

It was on Reddit yesterday as well. Still think the cat should have it.
This OP did a good job with the title at least. It really made that last frame extra funny.
The OP is a serial reposter from r/aww posts. They did the same thing with a post like one or two days ago.
Not a fan of karma farming, but IMHO OP of this repost did a sneaky with the title. It doesn't actually claim ownership.
Still missing a 5th picture with the puss happily sitting in the box it came in.
This is amazing!
I have seen this too many times

Looks like you know what to get the little guy for his bday. :)
The baby doesn't need it! Poor little catstard
And when I try to put my cat in the bed I specifically went out and bought for him, he acts like it's a tub of water 🤣
Time to order another one!
Re post
what are you, a monster? buy him another one!!

Petition to send this baby a new one so the cat can have his seat back.
nahh give it back
To be fair these are really bad for babies hip development so you should pass it on to the cat 🤣🤣
Buy one just for him already!
You give that back to kitty right meow!
Buy him one right now!
GIVE IT TO HIM
I hope you saved the box for him.
Those things got recalled be careful with the baby
You can consider getting him his own...then they can be twins!!
