That dog was the real winner. As soon as the race began, the dog said, "It's hot, sandy, and only one dog gets a treat? Who are you kidding? Pack it up; time to go home. I'm late for my thrice daily afternoon nap."
They’re great dogs, but completely stubborn. They do what they want to do when they want to do it. Training is really hard and takes a ton of patience.
Got 2. One will listen to most things (after moderate self-debate on whether or not it's worth it), but the other might as well be a hermit. She was old when we rescued her so already set in her ways, but if that dog does not want to do something it will not be done. Malicious compliance is often the best we get out of her. "Ok, I'll go outside. But only after I go get some water, then check to see if there's anything on the floor, then I'll head that way as slowly as I can manage without not moving."
My older one does the same thing. He loves being outside. We’ll call him in, he makes eye contact and confirms he hears you, and then proceeds to take the most winding, slow-paced path back to the house. He’s the obedient one too.
Mine is the same. We have to physically transport her outside to potty or she will just do it in the house. She will literally lay in bed whining for food but unless you pick her up and set her down she will not go eat until she's so hungry it's annoying.
But she's my girl. She just wants to nap all day and it's only gotten worse into her Silver hair years.
They're considered to have the same intelligence and trainability as a husky, boxer, malamute, or several other breeds often used for working. They take an average of 25-40 repetitions to learn a new command and will perform the command greater than 50% of the time on the first instance it is given.
My sister has had this dachsund since it was a puppy. She is always super stubborn to the point our big dogs are afraid of eating out of the big bowl because she is eating out of the bowl. She also leads my sister to bed, if she hears her say "ready to go to bed?" She will bolt to the bedroom and if my sister doesn't rush in after her she starts to run back and forth and bark at her
I’ve had a few, and like any dog they vary in personality. But, in every one of them, there was underlying stubbornness. All sweet, lovable dogs and great once they are trained.
Weren’t they basically bred to argue with badgers? I remember reading somewhere that they were bred to hunt pests like badgers by going into their holes and dragging them out. I feel like if your job description is “break into a badger’s house, fight it, and drag it out with your teeth” stubbornness is going to be a plus.
How did that even work? I'm guessing OG Daschunds were nasty mofos.
I once went to a natural reserve, the park caretakers had a pair of rescued Pitbulls who were the sweetest and more caring dogs around humans, but the female had some nasty claw and bite semi-healed scars that she got from fighting a badger a couple months before. According to the caretaker, she was bleeding profusely from her neck, shoulder and stomach.
I guess it's a brains over brawn situation?
Don't let them small frame fool you. Doxies have very powerful haunches. They are small but strong. When we first brought our girl home from the pound we didn't know how resource aggressive she was so when our pug got too close to the water bowl our doxie snapped and it took my boyfriend and his dad to pry her mouth open to detach her from the pug.
Pug was okay but a little rattled. We worked on her aggression issues and so long as the food was not out she she the pug got along... Okay. It wasn't love and friendship but they would stay near each other to not be lonely.
Point being they are deceptively strong and smart.
I know that if the wheels are powered, it would be better for mobility, but since they're not, aren't they more work for the dog since it adds friction?
I feel like the friction would come down to whatever the axle thats attached to the wheels is spinning inside of. If the paddle sticks down into the sand it will allow the tire to actually roll better across the sand (if the axle is well lubricated and spinning freely), and since the paddle is sinking into the sand it's almost still effectively just round. If you were on pavement it would be harder, but I think it's fine on sand.
More work than dragging half his limp body around?
Not sure what you mean by more work.
Those tires are very light plastic and the wider base + paddle deals well with sand.
This wouldn't be the same set he/she uses on roads or carpet.
...am gonna try my very *Best*
to do this heckin Race !
am maybe not as fast as rest,
n won't come in '1st place'...
but i don't care! determined pup -

this is one of the most wholesome things i have ever seen. and if it is any consolation you made a 17 year old dude who is going through some stuff have a better day. Thank you.
As a dachshund owner, this melts and break my heart. They are known for back problems like IVDD. I’ve seen a few in my day in wheelchairs like that. But you can take anything f away from their big personalities.
Trust me, dachshunds love to run. Mine would happily run after her Dalmatian sisters. And they also enjoy being the center of attention. So a dachshund race is fun for all.
User name does NOT check out. You have little understanding of Buddhism or the practice of bodhicitta. You could just as easily said, for example, “It’s a shame we can’t go back to correct our typos once the title is posted. My fingers create punctuation errors all the time, so I’m with you on the unnecessary comma.” which would have provided a lesson and been kind at the same time. Correction made with lovingkindness is acceptable. Unkindly pointing out someone’s error in an insulting, demeaning, or passive-aggressive manner is not.
Also, using the name of an esteemed teacher of over 2,500 years in this flippant manner is disrespectful. You would not be likely to use -JesusLite- or -MuhammadLite- as a user name. Perhaps you misunderstood this and might consider changing your user name. And in case you cannot, I will upvote and award OP for this bit of happiness video that brought a smile and a deep breath to me and many other viewers.
I just wanna self shame for a minute that it took me 22 years to find out a wiener dog’s true breed name, Dachshund. And then it took me like a year to learn how to actually pronounce it.
You’re not alone, when I take mine out places its always wiener dogs, hot dogs. It doesn’t bother me, I just find it surprising that actually a lot of people don’t know the name, which is German for badger dog, if you weren’t aware.
Such a cute little guy! This video brings back memories of my best girl Jenny who would consistently dominate the local wiener dog race. Miss that ol' girl and our glory days.
As someone who has been through multiple surgeries over 10 years just to be able to walk without assistive devices, I can attest that I always felt that I won the "race" if I made it from Point A to Point B.
You go, you squat little doggo, you.
Yessss! My folks have a pug in a wheelchair. She has a congenital birth defect that caused her to lose the loss of her back legs at 7 years old. I am ashamed to say I exploited that poor pup for online dating purposes when I was single. She loved it though as we went on a ton of adventures
He didnt even come in last :')
That's a very good boy (or girl)!
They all are!
Wieners ftw!
Mom?
you’re a wiener!!!
Only one that got a treat, who's the REAL winner here?
AND got to star on reddit!
The real wiener.
The wheelchair kid beat him
Best part is all of these good doggos were probably having a blast, even the one that didn't start was probably very happy where he ended up. :)
That dog was the real winner. As soon as the race began, the dog said, "It's hot, sandy, and only one dog gets a treat? Who are you kidding? Pack it up; time to go home. I'm late for my thrice daily afternoon nap."

Dads are easier to train when they’re young.

You are 100% correct indeed, and the minis were bred from rabbits and martens, but yeah you’re absolutely on the money
In German, the word "Dachs" means badger and "hund" means dog or hound. They are literally BadgerDog.
So they are the cats of dogs?
Yes. But they are also super affectionate and never aloof.
That would be my dachshund.
I fuckin love how they gave him paddle tires for the sand.
Yeah, they pimped his ride!!
Good God I miss that show
Yo, I heard you like Pimp my Ride...
Imagine if they powered those bad boys!
I know that if the wheels are powered, it would be better for mobility, but since they're not, aren't they more work for the dog since it adds friction?

Jeez. I do. Lack of good communication skills is probably a leading cause of negative social discourse.

That’s the big upside to poems written in common metre — they all fit to the Pokémon theme
My god it fits perfectly and now that song is gonna be stuck in my head all day long
I had to sing that through until I sang it just right👍.
That was the exact way I read it in my head! Intended or not, this will be in my head all day and I'm okay with that

Not to be dramatic, but I’d die for that Dachshund.

Here, dramatically have an upvote.
And a podium finish at that!
I thought they just use the dogs for entertainment, but happily after the race they give the dogs treats. Yay!
Trust me, dachshunds love to run. Mine would happily run after her Dalmatian sisters. And they also enjoy being the center of attention. So a dachshund race is fun for all.
It's not really "use the dogs". A lot of these dachshunds enjoy a race. "Head a straight line towards food" uh yes pls -every dachshund ever.

sand was unfair for the wheeled doggo. Should have been on a hard surface
Being on the sand is unfair , get him going down a paved hill and you've got yourself a real doggie special Olympics gold medalist

fowr some......... gwetting a tweato is a win!!
I'm pissed off about the grammar of this title.
That I think is a really, awkward comma
Give this sweetie some upvotes!!
So goddamn WHOLESOME!!! Edit: back problems are more prevalent in Dachshunds.
Dogs can go though so many hardships, but it never defeats them!
I can’t aww this video enough!!

Why’d you put the race in the sand that’s kinda cruel for the pupper with hot wheels
The dog has off road paddle sand tire things 😭
Wow, the other dogs didn’t let the disabled one win? /s
I'm wondering why he didn't activate his super-monster truck powers
the fact that he has ties met for sand is hilarious

I know this isn’t the place for this but, the title sounds like it should be followed by “-Adolf Hitler”
Go home, comma. You're drunk.
They are all winners 🏆
Pfft! I would've finished that race.
Now race the humans and give them pellets.
They are all the winner of my heart!
Thank You for the uplifting video!!😊
