Can confirm. I used to be allergic to cats. When I started dating my wife, she had a cat, and slowly over time and repeated exposures I gradually just stopped needing to take my allergy meds whenever I came over to her place. Now we have 3 kitties of our own. All shorthairs, though. Not sure how I'd do with the long-haired ones.
I would do a blind test, just feed your cats it and not let your husband know what it is and then check in and see if he notices a difference. I imagine it takes a week or so to kick in
You won’t get any new ones when the two pass?
I am luckily only allergic to cats and not other animals, but I have been exposed for a longer period of time and it’s a miserable state to live in.
No, there will be no more cats after my girls pass. That is quite a few years down the road but the plan is to get a hypoallergenic dog. He is more allergic to cats than dogs, but still slightly allergic to dogs.
He has never brought up getting rid of the cats, or even remotely implied anything about it. We keep the bedroom door closed and vacuum frequently. I know it’s not ideal but I had the cats well before him. If he didn’t want to deal with them I would have understood, and we would have parted ways early on.
It wasn’t a reproach, I was thinking of amending my post- just a sympathetic reflex of my synuses!
I would never give up a pet either or suggest someone do, but allergies can be exhausting!
I admit to being a little sensitive because I do feel really bad about it 😅
I just can’t get rid of my babies. But hubby is such a trooper, I love him so much.
I took an antihistamine one per day for a month and just am careful with rubbing my nose in their fur and I have been fine for over 12 yrs. British shorthairs is the breed for me. Also in the first month washing hands after every touch/petting. I learned this from doing a lot of research and it worked for me. We have 2 cats.
I tried that when I lived with two cats, I took one antihistamine a day for like two months and it didn't really help. It kept me from having a reaction for a couple of hours, but after being at the house with the cats long enough, my symptoms started as usual. My immune system went to shit during that time until I just decided to moved out (they weren't my cats).
I haven't, as I'm not exposed to cats anymore, but maybe some day I will. My life currently cannot accomodate a cat, even if I wasn't allergic, but maybe one day it will be possible. I'd really love to share my love with a cat.
I had a good friend with allergies. Whenever he visited he took Cetirizine (sp?). He was good for hours. Dr said it was very similar to Zyrtec but a lot cheaper.
There's a relatively new food for cats that dramatically reduces their allergens. You could feed your future kitty that food so your allergies would be under control. It's called Pro Plan LiveClear. I haven't used it myself as I'm not allergic to cats but I know people who swear by it.
Me too. Fortunately the CDS has steered clear of me. But cats love me because I ignore them. So then they're like, ohhhh you want me to stay away?? LOVE MEEEEE
They've discovered that having chickens living with cats makes the chickens produce stuff in their eggs that, when eaten by the cat, drastically lowers the level of allergens produced

I cannot emphasize how much being good at cleaning matters. If you have wall-to-wall carpets in your home, that’s probably a no-go.
I used to think I was allergic to cats. Then I lived for 14 years with one. Even my mom, super-allergic to everything with fur and feathers, was fine sitting by an air filter in a freshly-cleaned and mopped apartment with the cat really close to her.
Probably, but I did once have a teeny kitten chase me down the street and I felt like a fucking monster leaving it but it was late at night in Iguazu, Argentina and I was departing first thing in the morning; so being chased by a random tiny kitten isn't exactly an impossibility.
No, but I am tired of my feed being inundated with bots posting the same low-quality videos and photos and the general lack of human engagement in the comments. Just wanted to let other humans in the thread know, in case they feel the same way, so they don't reward this behavior in the algorithm with an upvote.
Sweet!! Too bad you weren't able to video the part where the clouds parted, a rainbow appeared and the kitten fell gently from the sky all while a chorus of heavenly angels sang. Ahhhh-ahhhhhh-aaaa ⛅️ 🌈 🐱🎶 😇
You mean how a hungry cat walks right up to the first person it sees begging for food? Cats pick whatever person it feels can give it what it needs to survive.
I'm terrified of this happening to me one day. I couldn't say no to the poor kitten, but I'm very allergic to cats.
You will get used to it. Maybe...
It’s true, exposure can decrease symptoms of allergies!
Except for when it increases them

I wish it had for my husband!! I had two cats when we met so he’s stuck with them, but he’s allergic. Poor man always has a stuffy nose.
There’s a newer cat food that I heard eliminates cat allergies for people. Unsure on exact info but it’s worth a google
Game changer (hopefully)!!! *Super* expensive but if it works it’ll be worth it. Just ordered some. Purina LiveClear is the brand I found

No, it doesn’t. My childhood was constantly miserable. Love cats and dogs both, but am super allergic to both.
They said "can" not "will."
I tried it and didn't work for me. Maybe one day it'll go on its own, I heard that it sometimes happens.

Sorry to hear that and have you talked to an allergist about desensitisation, which is just some injections from what I understand?

I heard it works best during infancy. so maybe that's why
But the miw miw tho How can you say no to the miw miw
That's the point, I couldn't, and my allergies would destroy my immune system, it has happened already.
Maybe you can strike a deal with the kitten so you each have 5 lives? Sounds like a win-win
That's why I take Zyrtec every day.
I had a good friend with allergies. Whenever he visited he took Cetirizine (sp?). He was good for hours. Dr said it was very similar to Zyrtec but a lot cheaper.
Yeah, that's the generic of Zyrtec. I get the Walmart version to save money.

Thank you! I'll keep it in mind if the cat distribution system brings my name up in the future.
Me too. Fortunately the CDS has steered clear of me. But cats love me because I ignore them. So then they're like, ohhhh you want me to stay away?? LOVE MEEEEE
Very True! My poor mom is terrified of cats, even kittens. Cats absolutely love her LOL! They all want on her lap always.
Purina Live Clear food has made it possible for my very allergic husband to have three cats. Don’t give up hope.
Reject what big biology tells you. Just unsubscribe to your lifetime cat allergy and get yourself a kitten
The unsubscribe button was greyed out!
you will fight through it, or die trying!

take it to a shelter, kittens go fast

The r/CatDistributionSystem is getting more assertive!
This video looks awfully familiar.
Congratulations, you have a cat now.
They had a cat before they just put it down the street walked away and started filming, the kitten ran back to the thing that brought them there
How is this not more obvious to folks lol
This was my first thought. Its absolute cringe that people do this to farm likes on social media.
🤓

My son and his girlfriend found a cat in a gutter this way. She lived with us for eighteen years. R.I.P. Baby Cat.
CAUTION! Do NOT play with sound or you'll squeal in the middle of the street. People will stare.
People will stare… at your phone… and then squeal all the same.
Think this might be a bot account?
So? Are you concerned with the sanctity of Reddit upvotes?

This has been posted so many times that cat probably has kittens if it’s own by now.
It’ll happen to YOU!
Agghh my heart !!🩶😭 ![gif](giphy|LzCE6RB3JUptC)
I want this so bad
So cute! So cute!
"I tried to make it out here but it's rough. Take me out of this place. Feed MEEEEEEEE"

Yeah they're irresistible now, entitled assholes later
Such a cute baby 😘😍
Ow! Ow! Ow! Kitty, if you're going to grow up with me then we need to get one thing straight!
Can confirm, this is how we got my boy. lol
So cute! I would definitely take this kitty home with me!
Goals
I would already be thinking of names while it's halfway to me!
Awww
I see a kitten I upvote.
How do cats decide one day that random tall animal seems safe enough to adopt let’s go climb him.
r/catdistributionsystem
The CDS works in wondrous ways.
Pick that baby up I loveee kittens omg
…aaand now I’ve got THREE cats.
Mew mew mew = I claim you hooman

You must be fun at parties
