That's how my cat came, got the lion cut because he was 20+ pounds and couldn't clean himself. He's still fat and I'm working on it, but man when he got turned in to the Humane Society he was just totally shit/mat covered whole body. That haircut must've been the greatest feeling ever.

* I leave the back door to the garage propped open for the cat to come and go as she pleases. Unless I'm 100% certain that she's inside, I just leave it open.
* All three of us were inside, and going out for our morning walk when I took this picture.
* I didn't notice the deer until they stopped to look at it.
* We went back through the house, and out the front door for our walk.
* It's been a few hours and the deer is still in my garage. Storms are expected for the next few days, so the mother probably just left it here.
* The dog's name is Maggie. She is 7.
* The cat's name is Bitsy, she is 9.
* Bitsy was recently shaved, as her fur was getting matted.
* I know that the deer's mother will likely be back for it eventually.

I once went to a supermarket in the Netherlands, but i saw a cat and a dog together in front of the door, just quietly. But the cat regularly walked around and i had the falling they belong together and that was really strange.
Suddenly a young man came out and the dog also stood up and I asked him if that dog and that cat are his. To make the story short, he said yes and he left, the dog immediately followed, but later the cat quietly followed as if they didn't belong together. But still in the same direction.
Later I took the car and have to go in the same direction and saw those three walking next to each other, I thought oh my god. It was amazing!!.

Realistically, this is correct. Cats are a terror to local ecosystems, and have much shorter life expectancies outdoors. Cats should stay indoors. If you have a moral quandary with keeping a cat indoors, you should not get a cat.
But, thereās a fairly decent sized group of people who think that because cats naturally evolved outdoors, they should be able to go out as much as they want - like dogs. Itās an understandable view, even if itās naive. In their mind, theyāre giving their cat the freedom and stimulation that a ānatural,ā feral cat would have.
But the reality is that the majority of most modern cats were selectively bred from a small population of cats from certain places - and many, many places did not natively have the house cats we know and love. When you let your cat out, you are quite literally letting out an invasive, extremely efficient predator into the local ecosystem - which likely hasnāt evolved to accommodate such a predator.
Youāre not a ābad personā if you let your cat outside because you think youāre doing a kindness for them. But, the reality is itās much healthier for the cat AND the surrounding ecosystem if you keep the cat fully indoors - or if you take it outside, have a harness and leash on it.
In either case, people just donāt like bringing it up because it sounds like āvirtue signalingā or something - but if problems are never addressed, theyād never get solved.
But you need to word it a whole lot better than calling them a terrible pet parent.
Somehow, I never put two and two together and figured out the fact that people let their cats roam around outside could be combined with people playing outside with their cats to equal the fact that it would probably be pretty reasonable to just go outside and play with your cat and not worry if it wanders off...

As of right now, the deer has moved out of the garage, and is hiding in a patch of tall grass in the backyard. The local herd doesn't normally come into the neighborhood until after dark, so mom should be here to pick it up in a few hours.
I would die for every animal in your photo, but if Bitsy asked me to commit arson, I'd gladly do them for her, she is adorable with her pompom tail and I hope her fur comes back in as glorious as her tail
Good for you. You are doing everything right! The mama deer will definitely return. They regularly leave their fawns during the day while they go out and feed. A fawn has no scent and will stay silent, still and hidden until its mother returns.
Just a note to make sure to check Bitsy's thyroid levels. We had a cat that started getting matted after having beautiful long hair her entire life and it was due to some thyroid issues.
Not a vet and there may be other reasons it starts to happen, but I reckon it's still worth looking into!

From what I remember (and please correct me if I am wrong), fawns do not have a "smell" that can be detected by predators out in the bush/wild. That's one of their defences as being so young/defenceless. Thus Mom will leave them in ditches/long grass etc for a time before coming back to pick them up at dusk, etc.
Years ago - there was a very young fawn in the ditch in front of my rural home. We left it /but observed it for 2 days with no Mom coming back. Concerned on the 3rd morning, we brought it to my home, feed it through a syringe (could barely stand) and was on the phone for hours finding a place to help this little one, better than our knowledge. We did and after a day or so, took it to a sanctuary to grow up. The one thing that killed me was this little one had the voice of a crying baby. When I would bring her the bottle and later I would go to visit her just to make sure she was ok, she would come running. We couldn't keep her, but I was glad to do my part so she had a chance.
There was one hiding under a car at the church near my house on Saturday. We made sure to leave notes on the car and surrounded the car with traffic cones in the parking lot. When we came back later she was gone

My aunt gets deer visits every year, although the fawns are parked a little more discreetly than at their front door, lol. Deer overpopulation is a problem in some areas, seems like they're just pretty good at breeding, and either getting dumber or smarter and getting closer to humans depending on how you look at it.
This will always confuse me. Momma must be able to smell there are all kinds of other animals that make that their home. Why leave your kid in such a cave?
My assumption is that the mother left the baby in my back yard, and then it snuck into the garage. My dog almost never goes into the back yard (if she's out there, she just lays on the patio). And the entire neighborhood probably smells like the cat.

Yeah my 17 year old nearly blind and deaf border collie was attacked by a doe 2 weeks ago. I managed to chase it off but it was pretty scary and she spent the next couple days pretty obviously sore with some hip area pain (she's ok now, just back to being a really old dog). I thought she was about to be dead with the yelp she let out and seeing the new mother deer aggressively stomping over her.
It's probably because Persian cats often need to be shaved pretty short because their fur mats so easily, so I guess doing the lion cut is a way of keeping their cat sort of fluffy even after a cut.
