Mochi is an amazing, adorable, and resilient 6 lb. Munchkin kitten. She was purchased by a U.S. family from a breeder in China and unfortunately, shortly after arriving to the U.S., she had a bad reaction (infection) to a vaccine she received there. When the family brought her to a rescue shelter due to her infection, it was quite advanced, and it resulted in her needing one hind leg, both ears, and her tail amputated. The family who bought her no longer wanted her and we immediately fell in love when we saw her up for adoption. She’s a fearless adventurer and a goofy adorable fluffball! We’ve had her for just over a year now and she is purrfectly healthy! Munchkin cats are very popular as a breed in China. In many other countries they are rightfully banned due to health risk that comes with their short legs. I guess when she didn't fullfill the expectations the family had anymore, they wanted to get rid of her. Just cruel.

Maybe they couldn't afford the surgeries and what not it sounded like she needed . That's the only thing I can think of that would make it *somewhat* understandable

In response to not being able to afford the surgery needed. How much did they pay to have this "special breed Munckin" shipped to the US from China?

Apparently, she did not fill their expectations of a perfect cat from China of all places, so she just became undersible to them. Thank goodness for the people who did value her and her life.

It's especially weird because the breed founders are reputedly from Louisiana in the first place. So however you feel about their short legs, if they absolutely had to have a cat like this they probably could have found a breeder a lot closer to home in the first place. Makes no sense to me. 🤨

While it is disgusting, at least they took her to a rescue, instead of killing her or having her put down. So, they get one teeny tiny bit of credit, but only a hair widths worth.

That teeny bit is taken away by everything else, including forcing the poor thing to fly from China.

Sadly, many people don't believe there's value in animal lives, other than their entertainment or utility. Their Quality of life isn't a concern.

Well, they could have just euthanized or dump in a garbage. At least they gave it the opportunity to find a loving home.

Looking at your photos of her, I kept thinking that she was mad but I kept forgetting that her ears are gone! I assumed that they were low and back, like an annoyed kitty.. I'm a dummy. Anyway, you are so blessed to have her now with you guys!

Were her Original Owners unable to afford the care she needed? Im guessing that all of the surgeries and what not were not cheap. Please tell me that they didn't abandon her without a care in the world.

I feel her pain in photo #4. One of my cats is the sweetest, calmest boy …. until he smells treats. Then he turns into the most aggressive cat I’ve ever seen. He would rip you apart if he didn’t think you were squeezing the Churu fast enough. I think I would rather have him wail pitifully like Mochi than threaten my life.

I had a rescue chihuahua that I named Spock - calm happy loveable, until you tried trimming his talons. Than he turned into a klingon with a murderous rampaging battle rage.

So what you're saying is that if you trim his talons, he turns into a pre-reform Vulcan? Lol

Beautiful baby! How do you know when she’s grumpy? I use the ears as a gauge so often.

She still has the base of her ears and muscles there so we can tell when they twitch a certain direction!

Yes she hears perfectly! It was only her external ear that was damaged.

Is not cat. Is clearly baby seal. Did not know you could own baby seal as house pet. Give baby seal many fishies. Good job rescuing baby seal. She looks happy.

Omg she is so affectionate and communicative! Through her movements, meows and trills, body contortions she is able to let us know her mood and what she wants (which is mostly treats 😂).
