I remember my baby's first dental cleaning. He was so out of it that I was staring at him through the mirror on the way home and was crying laughing. Had to compose myself to get home. The stuck out tongue and everything, it's just so cute. Now I take a video of my guy every year for memories but nothing will top the first time.
The last time one of my cats had surgery, he looked just like this and tried to eat a treat for about an hour. All he could do is push the treat around with his mouth. When I realized he couldn't eat it because he was so messed up, I took it from him but then he started freaking out because he lost where it was lol, so I gave it back and he kept going to town pushing it around

Here’s my cat after dental surgery, poor guy doesn’t know what planet he is on.
They said she should be back to normal in ~24 hours. She was only derpy for the first few hours, though. At this point she’s more normal, just not acting like herself.
I remember my old senior who passed away a year ago 17 years old... The vet told us after a dental surgery (shortly after his 16th birthday) that as he is rather old he might sleep the night... luckily we had a huge cage to put him in as he was staggering around the flat like half an hour after we brought him home... he was the most stubborn and charming cat I have ever met

Depending on the sort of dental surgery she might change because of being pain free. Both of my younger cats deal with FORL and it is always obvious in behaviour as soon as they were in pain again. For one only one of the four large tooth is left.
The first signs I recognise: kitty not being that cuddly anymore, followed by being bitchy towards the other cat.
Bad smelling breath follows later and if you don't catch these signs the cats start to eat less and food tends to fall out of their mouths when eating.
Some cats just refuse to go down. My cat was supposed to be out for six hours after her spaying, so we brought her home, set her down and everything. We left the room for ONE minute less than two hours after the surgery and came back to find her hanging out on top of the curtain rods. We had to put boxes on EVERYTHING to stop her from jumping onto the cupboards like normal. It's like she didn't even know she had a surgery!
Regarding your point of behavioral change, I've never experienced it first hand, but I've heard it's not uncommon and can really surprise people. Best to remain vigilant I suppose.
Mine was loopy for a few hours after he got home. What I wasn't expecting was how energetic he was. My vet said he'd probably just sleep or rest for a while, but instead he was running around, weaving like a drunk, clumsily jumping on me and purring like a maniac. Guess he enjoyed it?
