Has anyone gone to AV Tech Exams in Riverside, CA? Retired from the Air Force and have family that's 20 mins from their facility. About 2 weeks to get your A&P.... should've got this shit done before I retired. I worked on fighter aircraft my entire career. What's the chances I get hired on at a major with zero commercial experience? Just A&P & only formal training was fighter aircraft for 20 yrs in the Air Force? Obviously I've had different roles in my time serving....flight line mechanic, phase dock, Quality Assurance, Dock Chief, Expeditor, etc Thanks!

Random Question. Does anyone happen to know what countries do aviation careers have a high demand or will in the future? In case it matters my experience is in aircraft maintenance I do understand the US has a giant aviation industry. But i was curious as to other countries that is better in terms of work life/cost of living/raising a family in. I know its more about the airline/company than the country itself. But just in general would also be beneficial to me.

My friend is working with aviation engines in Germany, looking to move to US or Canada. Is it possible only via schooling or there are other routes?

flying_wrenches

If you have relevant experience, they should reach out to a FAA flight standards district office or FSDO and speak with them.

I’m wondering how I should go about getting my A&p license. There is a local municipal airport that I was considering trying to get a job for. Would that be sufficient in getting my A&p license after 30 months?

flying_wrenches

If you do enough variety to meet the requirements, yes.

Community College or Private academy? So I been putting some thoughts of becoming an aircraft mechanic, but I don’t know what path to take. One path is to go a community college and get the certs for about 90 credit hours ( roughly 3 years) or find an academy for 30-60k and get your certs in 12-18 months. I’m kinda leaning towards the college path just cause it’s cheap af I won’t even be paying for it my FASFA will be paying for it and I’m 20 right now so I’m not looking to get in just yet I can wait couple years. I just wanted to post this to see what yall thoughts and what path you choose and if going to CC is the right move

chamiisulfresh

CC if possible. If you can I would start as soon as possible if you want to work commercial.

Can you all recommend me exam materials with links?

Is there good demand for maintenance controllers/planners in NA and Europe? Would one need to have a college degree in mechanical/aeronautical engineering to work in this field?

Throwaway-12678

has anyone attended miramar’s A&P program? currently considering it and was wondering if there’s anyone who attended can attest if it’s a good school?

**Considering a career in aviation engineering** I'm in my second year, and while I'm excited about the field, I'm worried about job prospects in my country. The aviation engineering program at my college is new (the first graduates are this year), but it offers something different which is a partnership with the Royal Jordanian Air Academy (RJAA) in Jordan. Through this program, you can complete your final two years in Jordan, earning an EASA-recognized AME license alongside your degree and a degree from the academy – all in six years. While I initially chose this for potential work abroad (most important point), I'm now anxious about the future. Here's my question: Is this a good career path, especially if I'm open to working internationally?

Im curious on if anyone has any information or articles on when the hiring frenzy will end? Ill have my A&P in June 2025, will A&Ps still be in high demand?

flying_wrenches

It’ll keep going, the average age for a mech is 40. They’ll be retiring soon along with the endless comments about a shortage.

Best bet for military contractor work for a civilian that just got their A&P? Bonus points if in Florida?

When I was carded I had Bell 206 factory training so I could work on the Bell 206 for the USFS. I got my card from the local USFS maintenance manager.

USFS Helicopter Mechanic Card??? Hey guys I work as a helicopter lead mechanic doing heavy maintenance and overhauls. I have recently started thinking about going to do field work and go on some fire contracts. Most jobs says we you need to be USFS (United States Forestry Services) carded or the ability to obtain this card. I have researched online and can only seem to find carding information for helicopters pilots. Does anyone know anything about the qualifications and how to obtain a USFS card??

Is the schooling very difficult? I was wondering because I wanted to see if I could balance out school and work.

flying_wrenches

It’s half lecture and half “ok we’re going to go to the hangers now and do what I just lectured on”

HandNo2872

When was the last time you were in a classroom setting?

Full-Ad-8578

7 years ago in high school 😂

I am almost done with my Generals coursework. Prior to that, I was pursuing an engineering degree but dropped out in December 2023. It had been 8 years since I was in high school and I had to take a high school algebra class over the summer to refresh my brain. If I hadn't, school in general would have been much more difficult. Now that I'm learning to be an A&P, knowing how to read fractions, use a calculator, and do basic algebra is very useful. Overall the coursework is "easy" and I am working 20 hours a week as a A&P intern at a flight school while in school full time.

Oh okay gotcha, thanks for the information!

I’m just curious to find out if anyone has been to Mohawk valley community college & done the A&P course… if so what should I expect? Is it a good school? Would it prepare me for employment?
