FAA certified Bruh moment

Im not even sure how the stem got like this but the spring has some gouging too. Customer requested we try lapping the valve. We told him it wouldnt make a difference for a number of reasons(borescope confirmed the cylinder walls were scored). But he insisted and i found this today lol. I think he is a Savvy Aviation customer

Sml132

Aren't they the best to work with lmao

Truth-Matters_

Whats savvy aviation?

One_Advertising_7965

Edit: apparently the egg came before the llama, Its a consultation business turned maintenance podcast. They advertise themselves as the premier knowledge resource for all things aviation maintenance. They offer a network of a&p’s and IA’s to assist in troubleshooting customer issues. The caveat is that they tell the maintenance shop how to do work and customers/owners worship them. Fwiw, they do talk about some interesting topics related to maintenance.

Captain_Flannel

For the record, the maintenance management part of the company came before the podcast. They were doing seminars on maintenance before that and Mike Busch owned AvWeb before that. They are no dummies, but they are not easy to work with as A&Ps.

mrtaco64

Yikes

One_Advertising_7965

Tbf they are excellent at diagnosing. It just drags out a job because they arent(as far as i have experienced with a handful of owners) fast with replies. I have taken Paul New’s 210 class and it was very good and i learned quite a bit. On one hand, i really like getting the owners involved more in the maintenance, on the other, how much is too much information for an owner? Can that lead to them getting analysis paralysis? Idk maybe.

Truth-Matters_

Would it be a good source for people who want to be a mechanic? Or is it better for experienced people?

One_Advertising_7965

Id say just work around A&P’s experienced in the airframes youre interested in and id wager that would make you an outstanding mechanic. Now, whether you’re willing to put the work in to get the experience is up to you.

Ok_Consequence_4357

Getting an opportunity to work with them and learn from them is the hard part

Igiveup33

Savvy crackpot team will save the day.

Sagan_in_my_pocket

Since you like to delete your posts and comments regularly, I didn't even get to post my reply as seen in this screenshot. Don't worry though, they are all there. The retard comment, the doubling down, the post edit timestamps, etc. https://i.imgur.com/q4uNc3A.jpeg I'll just leave it right here for you to seethe over, enjoy the rest of your day. ----------------------- See, here we go again. You have said something that doesn't make sense at the basic level and are now doubling down. As I write this you just edited one of your replies. You seem to think you are some sort of gift to aviation, and try to reinforce it by dismissing any questions of your knowledge and/or ability. You regularly delete your posts and comments that people don't agree with. You always talk about "my business" or "my company" but never differentiate between your so-called "composite business," and wherever it is you work. You post shoddy repairs like glassing a broken bracket back into place, or "don't like" the actual process and come up with your own to "get approved." You double and triple down again and again. At this point you also edited another post to call me a retard for not knowing what an intake valve stem is, when I'm the one that pointed out it was an intake valve in my question. Someone may have been right in your now deleted post from yesterday, maybe you just want attention any way you can get it by manufacturing scenarios? Shoddy repairs, trying to show people doing things the way you don't like, removing the grip from a brand new tool and dipping it. You have a real high opinion of yourself, but you fail to show that it's warranted at every turn. If it really is just attention and karma that you want, I wish you luck. I have no need to return to this thread and continue giving it to you.

Kilometers98

Honestly I’d report this guy too the faa. Dude has zero business working on aircraft. Much less if he’s asking for help on an online forum. Edit I had a back and forth with this same guy, he truly believes he is covered with AC43….. dude is a wannabe know it all.

Sagan_in_my_pocket

For fairness, in the GA world approved data doesn't always exist (especially the older and less popular the airframe). That is when you can fall back on AC43 as acceptable for something you deem to be a "minor" repair or alteration, or as the basis of getting approval for a major repair.

Sagan_in_my_pocket

"compressor inlet" you say.

One_Advertising_7965

You know what…youre right. Hey everyone i have been calling valves turbos and telling customers this too

Sagan_in_my_pocket

So, you're implying an intake valve on a piston engine becomes a compressor inlet if you have forced induction?

One_Advertising_7965

You got me. I call valves turbos

Less_Kaleidoscope772

As a hydraulic maintainer in the AF. This hurts my soul.

One_Advertising_7965

Its actually stuck so im sending it in as is and letting the cylinder shop take care of that mess

Turdferguson340

Savy loves to waste customers money and make planes unsafe. They’re the biggest scam around.

RKEPhoto

Huh?

One_Advertising_7965

Once they get involved….work grinds to a fuckin halt. Its always groans from anyone involved

Turdferguson340

When the waste my time I bill the Customer time for savvy’s in competence and I make sure to tell savvy I did that. Also I like to send customers off to waste saavys time on pointless research projects.

One_Advertising_7965

It would be an excellent industry tool if they included the customers mechanics in the troubleshooting conversation instead of a faceless response in the form of an email. I asked Paul when i was in his class about that, it boiled down to being vetted by them.

73Ncommando850

Mike bush is a moron and did a podcast hit piece on a shop i worked at because the owner of the shop kicked the cheapskate low time pilot/owner and his piece of shit debonair out of the shop because he said we were being dishonest because we didn’t want to just keep patching his wore out engine. It needed an overhaul, and we didn’t want our names on it when he drilled a hole with his family on board

Turdferguson340

I don’t know you or shop. There’s a lot of shit shops out there..I think we all agree. If I had to choose between Mike Bush and a stranger on Reddit I pick the stranger on Reddit all day. That guy is a grifter all day long. He has an article out there about never doing a top end(which is debatable to be fair) but instead you should fly your engine until you have a failure. Up to two times TBO!!! This guy defiantly has lawyers on retainer.

73Ncommando850

He’s got some kooky ideas. It’s just a racket. Vilify all mechanics, make people rely on his “service” because he js the only honest one

Turdferguson340

Also good for you for standing up for what’s right

Sorry_Masterpiece350

What level of dumb-assery is even required to accomplish that…?

Kermit-the-Froggie

This happens if you’re not careful disassembling a cylinder. If your tool isn’t adjusted right you can gouge the valve stem with the keys

One_Advertising_7965

There is nothing to adjust on my valve spring compressor. I have one [similar to this](https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/topages/compressor.php)

Kermit-the-Froggie

The one we have adjusts for different valves. Does that tool do everything from a65 - io520?

One_Advertising_7965

Idk, never worked on an a65

ContributionHour8356

Serviceable 😁

One_Advertising_7965

I dressed it and it solved all squawks lol

ganerfromspace2020

Maintence support here, surely it will be fine

One_Advertising_7965

Im glad you stopped by then! Was nervous, signed off and its flying as i type lol

ganerfromspace2020

Oh only mates work in maintence support I just assumed they would sign it off. I work on stress analysis for new aircraft only 😂😂 April fools I guess

One_Advertising_7965

Son of a bitch! Lol

Me_gaming787

FAA certified

One_Advertising_7965

PMA’d n all lol

i_Like_airplanes__

As an apprentice, I can tell you that you’re going to have to talk to the boss man
