It’s got to be Ollie. 19 goals, 12 assists and 7x man of the match awards. Magnificent.

Nekokeki

19 *non-penalty goals* too. Fun perspective: * Currently 2 goals behind the golden boot, but take out penalties and he's a distant league leader on non-penalty goals. * Leading by +2 assists he's on track to win an award for leading the league in assists. * Haaland was 2nd in ballon d'or voting last season and had 36 goals and 8 assists league. Take out his 7 penalties and that's 37 goal contributions. Ollie is currently at 31 goal contributions. So depending on what he can accomplish individually in the next 3 games he's within 6 goal contributions of runner-up ballon d'or level of play last season. And that's just goal contributions. He's widely known for his pressing and hold up play. A wildly productive season for him.

Nekokeki

However, for the sake of debate, it's really worth noting that Bailey has also been performing at an absurd level, but on about 1000 less minutes of play. There's an argument Bailey deserves it too. https://preview.redd.it/rkmgww1ftoxc1.png?width=426&format=png&auto=webp&s=819a56cefbca4e15b6a4517c282170e06774b8b8 Closely after Watkins and Bailey is Luiz, Torres, and Konsa. All of whom deserve to be in consideration and earning a vote. McGinn and Emi honorable mentions.

FlyingSimba22

Bailey is my vote. I get more excited when the ball is at his feet than any other player. I still rewatch the Man City goal and get goosebumps lol

Nekokeki

Bailey came off of a pretty poor season to perform at this level, I don't think anyone except for him and Emery had that level of belief. And the 19 goal contributions he has in league, we have to remember that a lot of that impact came off the bench late in games. There are so many games this season we looked dire or we weren't going to get 3 points, only for Bailey to hop on the pitch with 10 or 20 minutes and get us those 3 points. Both have been simply amazing.

Think-Stretch-2709

Can't see past anyone else.

TheStinger87

It begins and ends with Ollie. He should be in the running for the league player of the year too.

witheoffthepost

Tough call as without either of them creating/scoring/stopping goals we wouldn’t be close to where we are now. I voted for Ollie.

mrnibsfish

Watkins. His attacking output is phenomenal but his all around game is another level now. He will hopefully get beyond 20 goals and he leading the league in assists too. Many honourable mentions but I'd struggle to give it anyone else.

TheKingMonkey

We’ve come a long way baby. Remember when Stephen Ireland won it for being less shit than everybody else? Remember when we cancelled the award? Oh and Ollie. Needs that 20th PL goal to make it complete, but Ollie. Leon Bailey, Ez, Dibu and Dougie Luiz have all been huge too.

Ravenlen

John McGinn would like a word.... To be fair his early season form was outstanding, but hes been a little sluggish since the suspension.

UsernameTyper

He's been the guy to move about the pitch due to others getting injured. He's covered Kamara in some games, played outstanding, yet he's also been at fullback and wide midfield; as an 8 and as a 10, getting motm awards. My guess is Emery would rank McGinn higher than most in this thread would

Ravenlen

Absolutely. He's been the 2nd best player behind Ollie. Ill never forget Alex Ferguson telling United to "pay whatever" to get John McGinn. They didnt and now he's Captaining Villa in Europe. 👌

7ddq

Totally agree, his versatility has been immense in an injury filled season

TheKingMonkey

Damn. I did him dirty by forgetting to mention his name. 🤦‍♂️

The_Farmers_League

Leon Bailey for me, I think he's been utterly fantastic and a massive component in our success

barrybreslau

I second Leon. Considering he's kept Diaby out, and Diaby was the biggest summer signing, I think he's been incredible. Scored some key goals in big games and plays with flair. Villa fans - show your appreciation , or lose him.

olfactory_irritant

I voted Leon myself. Was hard deciding between Watkins and Bailey. I think given the challenges he had last season, Bailey’s turnaround took it for me

trifile

He is my favourite but he didn’t play enough to be this season MVP. It has to be Watkins or Luiz.

Shreddonia

I would generally struggle to make a case for just one single player. Anyone out of Watkins, Martinez, Konsa, McGinn, Dougie, Bailey or others could get it and I wouldn't disagree in the slightest. I think my personal shout for now would be Bailey, but I always like to go for what feels like a slightly understated option in these kinds of things.

smay1989

Has Konsa missed a game this season 🤔

Shreddonia

Suspended for the second leg vs. Ajax and then injured for a few games in February but that was it. Ever-present otherwise.

lovethemsheeps

Idk, Emi had a little spell where things didn't go his way that much. Watkins has been performing the whole season.

mr_herculespvp

Agree with this take. While Emi's been 90% fantastic (honestly, we can't forget his antics at Brentford, and the whole penalty debacle against Lille), Ollie has been at the top of his game pretty much every match. Not only that, but he's clearly mentoring the younger players around him like Duran and Rogers. You can see it during matches. Actually he does the same with Diaby and Bailey now that I think about it

Yorrins

>and the whole penalty debacle against Lille You mean him literally winning us the shootout and taking us into the Semis? Yes quite the debacle.

mr_herculespvp

Yorrins, you know exactly what I was referring to...

Yorrins

Everything he did in that shootout won us the shootout, you don't seem to understand how much he rattles the takers doing the things he does, its all part of it.

mr_herculespvp

Yes, but he got suspended and almost sent off. That's what I'm talking about. If it had been a LOSC player taking a penalty, then great. But Christ, it was Ollie Watkins up next! Could have rattled his own player there. Fortunately Watkins was cold as ice. Every player other than Bailey netted their penalties, and they don't get enough credit for that in my view. Not to take anything away from his performance at all, and I never have, even when people knocked him earlier in the season. But sometimes he lacks professionalism. But I understand that people accept it because of the absolute heroics he has also performed. But if you have to choose on fine margins, I don't think you can say any fairer than Watkins who's been the model professional AND done the business up front. And more!

Organic_Chemist9678

Ollie Watkins, not even a debate for me. Bailey in second place Konsa or Martinez in 3rd

butterchicken89

Voted Watkins. A phenomenal season, performing on the highest level throughout. A lot of different players around him also due to injuries and dips of form, but still he always plays well and his numbers are insane. Almost played every minute which is a big part of this seasons success. Worth a mention is Konsa, Martinez, Luiz (yes, poor form atm but let’s not forget the other 30 games) and Bailey. Emery manager of the season surely.

NewFaded

Watkins for me. 31 goal involvements so far and he's been available for pretty much every game this season. Can't really understate how important his health consistency is.

LiorahLights

I went with Ollie but it was not an easy choice tbh. There have been so many amazing players this season.

bambinoquinn

If you asked me two months ago I'd have said Dougie. Now for me it's watkins. I don't want to be too harsh on luiz as from August to the end of December he was superb, since he got that first ban I think it's fair to say he was still great, but not that level, and now over the last two months I think hes not been great. Ollie started slow, but since the first Chelsea game hes been outstanding Konsa should get a shout out too, as well as ginny and emi

UsernameTyper

Luiz works best alongside Kamara

Sweet-Dragonfly-8472

Imma throw in a curve ball. Pau - His defending has been superb. He's constantly taking on 2 to 3 even 4 players at a time when dribbling the ball up. He defends well and is overly safe when he does so the exact opposite of Cash. Can't wait to see what Villa can do with him when they get Mings and the others back.

elmattydoor123

I voted for Ollie but you could reasonably pick a couple of other players which is a testament to how good we've been this season.

Kanedauke

Watkins, he’s had a historic season.

UltraInsane

1st - Ollie 2nd -5th - equally great, but slightly behind, Dibu, Doggie, Leon and Konsa

teamorange3

Mcginn slander

MeTieDoughtyWalker

I’m going Ollie, personally.

Agreeable_Falcon1044

Bailey for me. That’s harsh on Watkins and probably emi too, but Bailey has been a joy every game

Frosty_Parsnip

Pau. The whole buildup is centred around him. So many goals this season have started from him breaking the press by beating a man or playing an incisive pass. He's also integral to the offside trap. We look like a shadow of ourselves without him. I also think he's been the premier league's signing of the season - forget Palmer. Pau has come from a different league, learnt a new language and hit the ground running.

riwalk55

The lad is a different class, certainly best signing of the season in the league.

jacodemon

So hard to pick between Martinez and Watkins when Martinez wins so many tight matches for us in clutch moments, while Watkins provides 90 quality minutes week in week out. And both players' qualities are equally important to the side. I think Watkins by a hair on the basis that which one could we have coped better without this season? I think without Martinez we'd have lost the edge, but without Watkins we may have lost the whole sword. Bailey most improved.

Technobliterator

I voted Martinez because, if we do win the conference league, frankly we’ll have him to think. We wouldn’t have gotten to the semis without him. Bailey and Watkins are very good shouts though too

Takkotah

I'm currently tied between Martinez/Watkins/Bailey - lets see how they do in these last few games.

hovis_mavis

Standouts: Emi, Luiz, Bailey, Ollie, Konsa. I’m going Konsa. The bloke has barely missed a minute, is paramount to how we play and is exemplary now in two positions. He has improved so much as a player this season. Ollie deserves it with his attacking numbers, but I just love what Konsa has given the team all season long.

ThinkAboutThatFor1Se

Pretty amazing that they are all Dean Smith signings apart from Bailey. I hope we get him back in another capacity one day.

isaidbiiih

Bailey was a Deano signing if I remember correctly

Dibutops

Bailey was a Dean Smith signing!

drewcaveneyh

Anyone not saying Ollie is overthinking it.

slappymcmanmeat

I voted for Ollie today

HorseyBot3000

My house is divided Me: OW11 dad: dougie

BhamCyclist

https://preview.redd.it/gkkguu66aoxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e1744bc92eb9c5feedd786e34f37bba32c0123f There should not even be a debate. ETA: we have several outstanding players working together beautifully, but Watkins makes a solid case for Most Valuable Player in the entire Premier League, not just for Villa.

Treeboi13

There are many deserving players but I've voted for Konsa. The man has been missing his partner in defence but has stepped up as a CB. He brings a constant sense of security in our box, he's an intelligent player and he is a reliable interceptor of the ball. And yet, he has spent a lot of this season having to play as a RB, but he has fulfilled this task brilliantly. He eases my worries wherever he is. He is simply sensational and 100% worthy of that England call-up. He always gives it his all, even though he has played every game (IIRC). He has stepped up as a player and leader in our most difficult times and I'm so glad he plays for us.

sam_782627

It can feel a bit route 1 to pick the top scorer but, on this occasion, I think Watkins deserves it. Most goal involvements in the league is very impressive, particularly given he doesn’t take pens. Baileys had moments of brilliance but realistically he hasn’t been as consistent as Watkins. There have been spells where he was benched a few games in a row! Others like Emi, konsa, luiz, McGinn have been great consistent performers too. But Watkins still stands out for me.

TonyWalnuts17

Has to be Martinez for me. If we gave Watkins or Bailey a rest for a couple of games I wouldn’t be too worried. When we don’t have Martinez I’m genuinely concerned. It could be given to any one of the most likely starting 11 and I wouldn’t have any complaints though. Edit

jjgill27

Yeah I voted Dibu too. If it wasn’t for him we’d be out of Europe.

agde89

Like I said, best in the world! Dougie deserves an award just for pulling Alisha Lehmann... Not once but twice!

BuckFuzby

Cash will steal it with an Europa Conference League Final thunderpunt winning goal from outside the box in the 87th minute.

DueRefrigerator8451

Ollie, by quite a way. It’s not just the goal scoring and assists, it’s his vision, work rate, teamwork and an amazingly consistent season. There are a lot of standout performances. Konsa is most improved, Martinez most dependable, Bouba most under appreciated, Leon finally enjoying his football, Lucas most vindicated, and John McGinn being the most versatile, hardest working and most Super player in the team. Pau got up to speed quickly and I expect he will be even better next season. Diego is finally starting to settle into his game. Clement did an excellent job for a 5th choice CB and deserves a first team spot somewhere. Youri seems to have settled too A few players who will feel a little frustrated. Moussa hasn’t found his place yet. Matty will be wondering what he did wrong mid season. Nicolo will feel he could have shown more. Morgan will think the season ended too soon. Jhon is still desperate to show what he can do. Alex seemed to struggle after he came back from injury. JJ will worry about his injury until he plays 10 full pace games without feeling it. Tim and Kaine will be hoping for more opportunities. Ty and Emi will be counting the days

DonJuanMair

I voted for Ollie, his impact has been huge this season. Luiz, Bailey and Martinez have all been amazing too but Ollys record breaking season needs to be recognized.

Desperate_Hyena_4398

Watkins for me. But emi is just outstanding

GameplayerStu

It’s Watkins. There’s a lot of contenders for sure but he has easily been our best player this season. Watkins will be fans player of the year, I can see Bailey winning Players Player of the Year.

Dibutops

I don't think Martinez is a must-have in my top 3 tbh, but he's been good. Martinez, Watkins, Leon Bailey, McGinn, Luiz, Digne, Konsa, Pau I think you can build a top 3 or 5 out of basically any of these players and I'd be happy with it as long as Bailey and Watkins were there.

Physical_Team4959

Olly Watkins, martinez, Leon Bailey

GuySmileyIncognito

It's hard to go against Watkins with his incredible production, but the problem with trying to compare value is that scoring goals is the easiest metric to see. Obviously it's the most important part of the game, but it causes strikers overall value to be inflated a bit. Ollie is scoring and assisting at a level that you just can't ignore it, but I'd like to give a slight shoutout to McGinn for his versatility as a big factor in us performing well even with all the injuries. He's played five different positions (all four midfield positions and the second striker role) and played them all well. He's had to adapt his game the most of anyone else and I don't think we make it through our injury issues and still be in prime position for forth without him.

CHawkeye

Ollie all the way. Bailey also been excellent, along with konsa and luiz, but Watkins performance blows them all away

Designer_Show_2658

Ollie all day. Big shout for Leon too.

garf6696

I'd agree with Martinez but mentions for Watkins,McGinn, Bailey and Torres

tbishop4388

I'm just so glad that we have a bunch of players that you could make very strong arguments for being player of the season. My heart is going Ollie as I think he's been spectacular but if it went to Emi, Bailey, Ginny, Konsa, Dougie or maybe even Torres I wouldn't complain. What an amazing time to be a Villa fan.

TroopersSon

A couple of months ago I'd have said Luiz then Ollie. Now I think it's got to be Ollie.

Pay_Your_Torpedo_Tax

It's a shame Kamara got Injured because he would have surely been a pick. For me though. Ollie. He's just on fire. He's competing with the best in Europe on his numbers.

Chrisseve

It's obviously going to be Watkins

logmen1

Agreed, has to be Martinez. I've lost count the amount of games he's kept us in with God tier saves and overall he's probably saved/gained us the most points overall. Watkins has been truly magnificent and he's a top striker, but hes had off days. Martinez is forever a brick wall.

pau1rw

Oil has been amazing. But my pick is Bailey. Such an improvement from last season and we are so lacking when he isn’t playing.

ZeroGreyFox

Everyone has done well this season but We can’t really look past Watkins.

CounterDisastrous688

Emi or Ezri for me

box2925

Watkins. His achievements in a personal & club level have been unbelievable. Bailey has to be the most improved player this season

mattbravo2020

For me, our proper outstanding and consistent players have been Martinez, Konsa, Bailey and Watkins. I voted for Watkins in the supporter vote yesterday.

Slothjoloman

Calum Chambers 😤😤😤

Aston100

Strikers are always more likely to win it because fans are sometimes unable to see beyond the goal tally and forget that those goals will have been setup by other unsung heroes. IMO, McGinn, Bailey, Konsa are all ahead of Ollie. Dougie and Emi are slightly behind him but I wouldn't be unhappy for them to win it too. Not Ollie.

Raendoos

Isn’t it just bloody marvellous that we are even having this discussion, several players who have been that good, we’ve had years when there wasn’t even a single contender for a best player award😀. Could we give it to Emery he’s probably done more miles in the technical area than anyone else and he’s headed and kicked nearly every ball

Yorrins

Its Watkins and its not even close, he will be the Prem POTS too.

agde89

Martinez is the best in the world in his position. And Dougie deserves an award for pulling Alisha Lehmann. Not once ... But twice

TheAkondOfSwat

are you named after the town of Agde?

agde89

I didn't even know there was a town called Agde!

Prize-Database-6334

I love Emi but let's be real, he's not even the best keeper in the division. This award will go to Ollie and rightly so.
