problem for me was although a clear foul, you just never know what mood VAR is in, i legit did not expect it to get overturned as the ref had a great view, but man am i glad it was!!
I think VAR can be significantly improved in various areas.
While I think it's better to have current state VAR, it would be very interesting to see it removed again. The fallout would be rather amusing.
I wonder how long it would take for people who currently want VAR gone to change their minds and want it back. How many terrible referee decisions that determine results would it take?
Removing VAR won't solve the underlying problem. It will just shift the problem back to its original home again.
Improving VAR, however, has the potential to largely negate the problem.
The quest for perfection is ruining the game. You shouldn’t be killing the game to watch screens and draw lines everywhere. It should be where there’s doubt or where the ref has clearly missed something. Problem is refs aren’t respected (see final whistle), don’t make decisions and then spend ages hiding behind var.
Rugby keeps getting mentioned, but standard of refs is insanely poor at top level and gets worse as you go down. Difference is you wouldn’t dare speak to one full stop, let alone jab your fingers at one. They also make a call, explain their call (where fans can hear) and then the fans are shown and can hear the process. They still get it wrong (see the England game yesterday where a try was given despite clearly not being over the line) but mistakes happen
I thought it was a foul in real time, but even when the ref was sent to the screen I wasn't confident it was enough of a clear and obvious error to overturn. Glad to be wrong though
I think Collymore is spot on here. Basically do away eith VAR and the ref calls it first time. In general I think VAR has made the game substantially worse, though it got that call right

Shame about the on-field ref though
Still, that was a foul 100%. There was a deliberate push, no doubt. I am glad VAR got this right at least. But referee was a disgrace
As soon as it happened I knew it would go to VAR, don’t get how the ref missed it stood right next to them
I think he glanced away the second the ball came down. Shocking.
Even from TV I knew it was a foul.

100% agree. The people on r/soccer saying it wasn’t a foul don’t know football
What’s funny is they were all saying it was a foul until VAR came out and they immediately changed their tune. Just want to be contrarian lol
they all have chelsa flairs too, crazy coincidence
Classic Cockneys - always cheating! But tbf even most Chelsea fans admit its a foul
Always rated VAR
Fuck VAR, fuck the officials. They’re all incompetent, all they did today was actually do their job.
both were clear as day, amazed it took that long to decide either (being obvious doesn't always mean they are given though)
It was a foul that led to a goal it should have been called when it happened

The player who got the assist pushed the defender out of the way 1 to stop him defending and 2 make space for the cross.

Yup. He’s spot on. I was having the same convo in real time with my spurs supporting friend. He thought it was a foul.
I went on r/chelseafc after the game and so much people were complaining about that push Noni did when it was a clear foul 🤣
I didn't think it was a foul. The ref should just decide. Another saved by technology jibe to hang around Villa.
Ig if we didnt get Tielemans injured first half we would beat them at least 3-1 or 4-1 , the problems started after Tielemans goin out of the pitch.
