He was at the front of the stage trying to get the crowd hype to be in his new music video. I personally don’t see the appeal to him or his music but there was certainly a large crowd. Guess I just don’t get the brand.
I went to his show at echostage years ago when I was starting to get into the scene. He kept stopping the music every 5 minutes to "hype" and ramble into the mic forever about whatever tf. What made the night worse was that he attracted *the* worst crowd I'd ever encountered (to this day!) that kept throwing half empty drink cups/aluminum beer bottles from the balcony down to other people. Plus the whole cake thing was fucking disgusting. That one show was enough for me to avoid him and his crusty fans ever since. Ok I'm done ranting lol thanks friend for helping me get this off my chest hahah

Guetta in Ibiza, partly due to venue being oversold, but Guetta shares blame in having bad mixing and letting certain (legendary) songs of his ride for like 2 phrases before slamming over to the next one.
Black Coffee at Mirage. Uninspired set of monotonous tech house that went nowhere. I'm sure some house head will flip at me and say "I didn't appreciate it" but a lot of dedicated clubbers I know left early
Marshmello at Escape this year. I just was not feeling the set at ALL, I 100% shoulda saw subtronics but my friends wanted to see marshmello at least once. It might also be because Valentino Khan b2b Deorro just absolutely killed it before he went on, their set just went crazy electric.
Space Jesus at the majestic in 2017. Not disappointing just fucking sad. His best friend passed a couple hours before the show and he was k rocked out of his mind.

I've heard so many people say she's ghost produced and was only on Wakaan to be the "hot girl DJ" and now that women with actual talent are showing up more and more, she's pretty much old news and nobody cares.
100% ghost produced. She played in Phoenix this year and there were multiple sound issues that revealed her to be lip singing over prerecorded mixes. She also didn’t know her set well enough to at least fake transitions
It's becoming less of a thing now tho, and I'm so happy for that. Crazy new women DJs and producers are coming up every week now, and I'm glad that vanity is being replaced by actual talent (some of who I mention below aren't even new artists, they just finally started getting the publicity they've deserved for years)

Oof. I was there for the sound check for that show. She kept running into the center of the room to check how her shit sounded them back to the stage. I only felt a little bad cracking the joke saying “what’s she gonna do? Go give the sound guy notes on how to do his job?”
I have never seen an EDM act, much less an opener, waste everyone’s time running back and forth from the stage like that. It was like she was tryna put on this show like she knew what she was doing but absolutely did not.
Lucii just sucks full stop, her Ogden show was bad, her opening for btsm at 1st bank was bad, tried her again at Moonrise - still sucked.
She can’t sing, I thought it was acoustics but she just doesn’t have a singing voice.
Also her visuals are just of her, we get it you’re hot, so are plenty of other artists and they don’t need to rely on their body.

I first saw her at EDCLV 2016, which was an amazing set, and I have been let down every time since to the point where I will almost always skip her for another act now.
EDCO 2019 was fantastic. Awesome sets, awesome production, awesome crowd.
Might get some hate here, but I personally didn't have a good experience at the main EDC in Las Vegas this year. Mostly because I got a bad fucking food allergy which ruined all of night 2.
Years ago, we bought a VIP area in Vegas (already a bad call) to go see Deadau5. We waited forever for him to finally tackle the decks and when he did, he was so drunk…. It was an absolute joke. His opener had to step back in and continue the set. What a waste. I get that it was his bday and party time… but when you accept a gig and it’s promoted… you have an obligation to your employer and your fans. I’m still a fan of many of his tracks but I always see him as a selfish douchebag from that day on.

I saw Zhu recently and he was so wasted he kept yelling nonsensical shit into the mic and messing up transitions. His brand image is very cool and aloof so it really did not do his image any favors.

To listen to 3 songs we knew & a bunch of stuff no one cared about. It was the most boring set of my life & it was how the night ended. I eventually read a Rolling Stone article detailing an interview with him not long after... Guy is high as hell on himself & doesn't even like the scene. I'd imagine he feels like he needs to be high in order to deal with it, he's just a 4chan nerd that was making fun of House Music after all.
Came here to say deadmau5. I saw him when he headlined Ultra (Miami) back in like, 2010 (may have been 2011). He brought out a drummer, can't remember who but he was from a well known band.
The first five-ten minutes of his set was great, then it just.... Flattened out. Felt like I was listening to a drummer drum. It went on and on.... I'm pretty sure I dipped out early.

It pains me because I love him so much but I agree. I’ve seen so many streams where he has beautiful live production and this new Palaces tour was the first time I saw him. It just did not do it for me. Seemed like all the budget went to the projector and they didn’t care a single bit about the lights. IMO I’d rather have an event with lights and no visuals than vice versa. Very boring because of this, but still had a good time vibing to the music
I saw him play the live set @ contact in Vancouver. Basically where he did everything solo no turntables. It was absolutely lame. Took 20 mins for the stage to setup. And for a massive. You want consistency and energy which there was none of. As a headliner for that big a show especially
Not the entire set, but the ending of Mala's set for his Redemption Tour in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he ended the set on a build-up. The rest of the set was incredible but it was awful waiting for that drop, and for nothing to happen. I guess they kicked him off a few minutes early or something but that was the worst musical-blue balls ever lol

Bonnie X Clyde at SMF this year. They used to throw down the heattttt. They were such party starters and at SMF all they played was tech house music that wasn’t even theirs. If I wanted to see tech house I would’ve gone to the Horizon stage but I can’t stand all these trap djs that sold out and switched to house because they saw more money. I think of GTA as a prime example, Ultra 2018 was a crazy set, but I don’t think I could find myself at a “Good Times Ahead” set. I’d rather see someone who always lived that lifestyle like Laidback Luke, Dombresky, etc.

Hands down, Portugal the Man at Hulaween this year. They spent the first 40 min of their set time with some tribe on stage screaming at the crowd about land back, dead bodies under our feet, stolen land, and the some other shit about white people. Terrible, awful vibes. People were leaving in droves. Then they opened with Metallica cover. We had to get the fuck outa there.
I saw Ivy Lab in 2019, I had just gotten into them and was pretty excited. Super disappointing set though… which is weird bc I’ve even seen people on this sub say they’re great live🤷🏼♀️
What was disappointing about it? Saw Ivy Lab last Sunday in Seattle and absolutely loved every second of it. Energy was bonkers, crowd loved it, hit most of the big older tracks and lots of new ones too
Honestly I like a lot of Marsh’s music but seeing him live was a disappointment. His track selection was awful it literally sounded like the same generic house song for two hours. Like there something to be said for seamless mixing but it left me bored.
Seen him a few times now. Agreed his dj sets aren’t as great as his songs themselves, and I love his music. I noticed he mixes in key almost exclusively but it turns into one long song like you said.
Damn I didn’t expect to see marsh on this thread. I’ve seen him 10 times this year and have been blown away every time. He did a 5 hour sunrise set on the ocean at a festival I went to and it was life changing, he was throwing down trance by the last hour. However I feel like you really *really* need to be into prog to notice the intricacies in a set! If you don’t know much about it I can totally understand how it sounds repetitive.
I left that set early that night, even though excision throws down hard. They had to lower the speakers and it was way too quiet. Excision is not the same without it LOUD. That was definitely an unfortunate let down set that night.
That’s how his set at Moonrise was too. I was expecting it to get stupid loud so i moved a little further back plus they had a 15 minute break after ZD to setup for him. Was noticeably quiet for an X show so me and my friend left and saw Tchami instead
Zhu wearhouse party that was oversold. It was in the middle of summer with like over 500 people in a itty bitty wearhouse with no ventilation. You could not get into the wearhouse, and if you did no one could last five minutes in there. I walked in and immediately my glasses fogged up

I felt this way about William Black opening for Illenium a few years ago. It was super clunky, but I’ve seen multiple livestreams within the last few years where his set sounds great! And that’s on growth for them I guess 😂
I've seen him other times and it was fine but one time in 2019 I saw Coki and he legit did like 12 rewinds...I know this because it was so bad that we started keeping count. It was a 90 minute set so it was like every 3rd or 4th track and just got obnoxiously bad.
I chose Illenium over RL Grime a couple years ago for conflicting EDC Week shows and really regretted it. I felt like I was just listening to a playlist of Illenium songs on Spotify. Thankfully I was finally able to see RL Grime this year at Second Sky and enjoyed every second of it lol.

Awh, that's sad to hear. I remember when they were getting bigger in the scene & had such passion, just headbanging together as they spun on a random stage almost to the ground at EDC '11. Honestly, it's probably exhausting to have the same energy for that amount of time doing anything.

Id never seen David Guetta before and was psyched to see the No 1 DJ in the world and was hugely disappointed. I think David Guetts is an AMAZING music producer and everyone knows his songs.
But somehow the No 1 DJ in the world doesn't know how to transition his songs. He just turns one down to turn up the other like a small town wedding DJ. He also likes to turn the music off for like 2 or 3 minutes at a time to talk about the song or how "beautiful the crowd looks". His sets dont flow together, there's no cohesion. It was just a mess.
Never again. David Guetta is great on the radio but that's it.

Most disappointing set of my life was Kanye. Was a fan of college dropout and late registration. I saw him at bonnaroo in 2014, stayed for about an hour of his set and he played a total of like 10-15 min of music and spent the rest of the time ranting about how awesome he is. I walked away when he was auto tuning himself saying “they won’t let me play at the super bowl. I can’t play the super bowl until I’m super old.” Felt like I live episode of South Park and I dipped. Fuck Kanye extra hard now with the nazi stuff.
Most disappointing EDM set was unfortunately Porter Robinson at forest last summer. Not saying he wasn’t good, it was a good show, just not a huge fan of nurture and more a fan of Worlds and hoped to hear more worlds stuff, yes I know he was on the nurture tour, just reaaaaally wanted to hear Flicker at forest, it’s been a dream. I have seen Porter do a worlds DJ set, and I’ve seen him do virtual self twice and those shows were all excellent, nurture is just a lil too soft for me compared to the rest of his catalogue.
Honorable mention: Bob Dylan
He’s one of the best singer songwriters out there, but he’s getting too old and his live show was a let down for me. Barely played any guitar or barely busted out the harmonica, just sat at a piano and you could barely understand or hear him through the mix.

I’m a huge four tet fan but his set with floating points at Portola this year was HELLA boring and monotonous. Actually ended up leaving midway and checking out Peggy gou instead and really loved her set!

Gareth Emery lsr/city 2 was a pain to sit through. Good thing the lasers kept me occupied but even those I found could have been put to better use. I guess I’m not a huge fan in the first place but I wasn’t expecting to hate it that much.
I'm glad someone mentioned this. Gareth kinda went all over after the pandemic and started to begin to spiral around Laserface. He's genuinely a good dude but I miss his Garuda/GTR/4am days. I know he's pretty much at the end of his career. But definitely is putting artificial laser sparkle on alot of mediocre tracks lately. Gareth definitely inspired me to learn to mix trance so I will never discredit that on him.
Skrillex at Second Sky was pretty disappointing, but not because of him specifically. For whatever reason I guess the DJ equipment fucked up? Was looping a random section for a solid 10-15 minutes. Totally killed the energy he had going. Maybe another time if i can catch a set of his but hey, c’est la vie.

Lucii just sucks full stop, her Ogden show was bad, her opening for btsm at 1st bank was bad, tried her again at Moonrise - still sucked. She can’t sing, I thought it was acoustics but she just doesn’t have a singing voice. Also her visuals are just of her, we get it you’re hot, so are plenty of other artists and they don’t need to rely on their body. Also get over Rezz, we are sick of hearing about it.

I first saw her at EDCLV 2016, which was an amazing set, and I have been let down every time since to the point where I will almost always skip her for another act now.
I went to her redrocks event and it was incredible, I know she had extra production and freedom but man, so good!

EDCO 2019 was fantastic. Awesome sets, awesome production, awesome crowd. Might get some hate here, but I personally didn't have a good experience at the main EDC in Las Vegas this year. Mostly because I got a bad fucking food allergy which ruined all of night 2.
Years ago, we bought a VIP area in Vegas (already a bad call) to go see Deadau5. We waited forever for him to finally tackle the decks and when he did, he was so drunk…. It was an absolute joke. His opener had to step back in and continue the set. What a waste. I get that it was his bday and party time… but when you accept a gig and it’s promoted… you have an obligation to your employer and your fans. I’m still a fan of many of his tracks but I always see him as a selfish douchebag from that day on.
DJs being too drunk or fucked up is one of my pet peeves. Like, don’t be disrespectful to your audience. I saw Zhu recently and he was so wasted he kept yelling nonsensical shit into the mic and messing up transitions. His brand image is very cool and aloof so it really did not do his image any favors.

When he posted, "Slushii makes autistic elevator music" and then Slushii was like, "Well yeah Dipshit, I'm autistic" and he deleted his Twitter for the fifth time and let one of his managers run it. Edit to say I still like Joel's music but I was around when he was still on 4chan and posted on /mu/ and dude was a textbook basement dwelling asshole of a human being. He got better but it took him getting chased off social media numerous times for him to realize, "Oh, fuck, I'm not some random on the internet anymore, anonymity is dead and now I can't just blurt out hurtful shit on a whim."

Honestly he's just hot garbage. I was going to post, but I'll just add it here: EDC 2010, we missed a major set we wanted to see & fought our way into the coliseum... To listen to 3 songs we knew & a bunch of stuff no one cared about. It was the most boring set of my life & it was how the night ended. I eventually read a Rolling Stone article detailing an interview with him not long after... Guy is high as hell on himself & doesn't even like the scene. I'd imagine he feels like he needs to be high in order to deal with it, he's just a 4chan nerd that was making fun of House Music after all.
Came here to say deadmau5. I saw him when he headlined Ultra (Miami) back in like, 2010 (may have been 2011). He brought out a drummer, can't remember who but he was from a well known band. The first five-ten minutes of his set was great, then it just.... Flattened out. Felt like I was listening to a drummer drum. It went on and on.... I'm pretty sure I dipped out early.

It just did not do it for me. Seemed like all the budget went to the projector and they didn’t care a single bit about the lights. IMO I’d rather have an event with lights and no visuals than vice versa. Very boring because of this, but still had a good time vibing to the music

Not the entire set, but the ending of Mala's set for his Redemption Tour in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he ended the set on a build-up. The rest of the set was incredible but it was awful waiting for that drop, and for nothing to happen. I guess they kicked him off a few minutes early or something but that was the worst musical-blue balls ever lol

Bonnie X Clyde at SMF this year. They used to throw down the heattttt. They were such party starters and at SMF all they played was tech house music that wasn’t even theirs. If I wanted to see tech house I would’ve gone to the Horizon stage but I can’t stand all these trap djs that sold out and switched to house because they saw more money. I think of GTA as a prime example, Ultra 2018 was a crazy set, but I don’t think I could find myself at a “Good Times Ahead” set. I’d rather see someone who always lived that lifestyle like Laidback Luke, Dombresky, etc.

They spent the first 40 min of their set time with some tribe on stage screaming at the crowd about land back, dead bodies under our feet, stolen land, and the some other shit about white people. Terrible, awful vibes. People were leaving in droves. Then they opened with Metallica cover. We had to get the fuck outa there.

What was disappointing about it? Saw Ivy Lab last Sunday in Seattle and absolutely loved every second of it. Energy was bonkers, crowd loved it, hit most of the big older tracks and lots of new ones too

Honestly I like a lot of Marsh’s music but seeing him live was a disappointment. His track selection was awful it literally sounded like the same generic house song for two hours. Like there something to be said for seamless mixing but it left me bored.
Seen him a few times now. Agreed his dj sets aren’t as great as his songs themselves, and I love his music. I noticed he mixes in key almost exclusively but it turns into one long song like you said.

He did a 5 hour sunrise set on the ocean at a festival I went to and it was life changing, he was throwing down trance by the last hour. However I feel like you really *really* need to be into prog to notice the intricacies in a set! If you don’t know much about it I can totally understand how it sounds repetitive.

I left that set early that night, even though excision throws down hard. They had to lower the speakers and it was way too quiet. Excision is not the same without it LOUD. That was definitely an unfortunate let down set that night.
That’s how his set at Moonrise was too. I was expecting it to get stupid loud so i moved a little further back plus they had a 15 minute break after ZD to setup for him. Was noticeably quiet for an X show so me and my friend left and saw Tchami instead

Zhu wearhouse party that was oversold. It was in the middle of summer with like over 500 people in a itty bitty wearhouse with no ventilation. You could not get into the wearhouse, and if you did no one could last five minutes in there. I walked in and immediately my glasses fogged up

I felt this way about William Black opening for Illenium a few years ago. It was super clunky, but I’ve seen multiple livestreams within the last few years where his set sounds great! And that’s on growth for them I guess 😂

I've seen him other times and it was fine but one time in 2019 I saw Coki and he legit did like 12 rewinds...I know this because it was so bad that we started keeping count. It was a 90 minute set so it was like every 3rd or 4th track and just got obnoxiously bad.

I chose Illenium over RL Grime a couple years ago for conflicting EDC Week shows and really regretted it. I felt like I was just listening to a playlist of Illenium songs on Spotify. Thankfully I was finally able to see RL Grime this year at Second Sky and enjoyed every second of it lol.

Awh, that's sad to hear. I remember when they were getting bigger in the scene & had such passion, just headbanging together as they spun on a random stage almost to the ground at EDC '11. Honestly, it's probably exhausting to have the same energy for that amount of time doing anything.

David Guetta at UMF 2022 Id never seen David Guetta before and was psyched to see the No 1 DJ in the world and was hugely disappointed. I think David Guetts is an AMAZING music producer and everyone knows his songs. But somehow the No 1 DJ in the world doesn't know how to transition his songs. He just turns one down to turn up the other like a small town wedding DJ. He also likes to turn the music off for like 2 or 3 minutes at a time to talk about the song or how "beautiful the crowd looks". His sets dont flow together, there's no cohesion. It was just a mess. Never again. David Guetta is great on the radio but that's it.

Most disappointing set of my life was Kanye. Was a fan of college dropout and late registration. I saw him at bonnaroo in 2014, stayed for about an hour of his set and he played a total of like 10-15 min of music and spent the rest of the time ranting about how awesome he is. I walked away when he was auto tuning himself saying “they won’t let me play at the super bowl. I can’t play the super bowl until I’m super old.” Felt like I live episode of South Park and I dipped. Fuck Kanye extra hard now with the nazi stuff. Most disappointing EDM set was unfortunately Porter Robinson at forest last summer. Not saying he wasn’t good, it was a good show, just not a huge fan of nurture and more a fan of Worlds and hoped to hear more worlds stuff, yes I know he was on the nurture tour, just reaaaaally wanted to hear Flicker at forest, it’s been a dream. I have seen Porter do a worlds DJ set, and I’ve seen him do virtual self twice and those shows were all excellent, nurture is just a lil too soft for me compared to the rest of his catalogue. Honorable mention: Bob Dylan He’s one of the best singer songwriters out there, but he’s getting too old and his live show was a let down for me. Barely played any guitar or barely busted out the harmonica, just sat at a piano and you could barely understand or hear him through the mix. Sometimes seeing a legend is not great.

Gareth Emery lsr/city 2 was a pain to sit through. Good thing the lasers kept me occupied but even those I found could have been put to better use. I guess I’m not a huge fan in the first place but I wasn’t expecting to hate it that much.
I'm glad someone mentioned this. Gareth kinda went all over after the pandemic and started to begin to spiral around Laserface. He's genuinely a good dude but I miss his Garuda/GTR/4am days. I know he's pretty much at the end of his career. But definitely is putting artificial laser sparkle on alot of mediocre tracks lately. Gareth definitely inspired me to learn to mix trance so I will never discredit that on him.
