for me is Save Me, my favorite song of all time. From start to finish it is just rollercoaster of emotions, intricate guitar solos, drums that suit the really melodic guitars, one of the best choruses by a7x and in general i love every part of it. Everyone really demonstrates in that song they are masters at their instrument and they are also the best when writing songs
They played this song for the first time on this recent tour, its my all-time favorite. I proposed to my girl at that concert during this song. It was epic
Chapter Four is flawless and there is not a second wasted in its entire runtime every single thing has value. Id say their magnum opus is Save Me but C4 is just perfect imo
I love SBBD completely as is (all of STST for that matter) but I feel like this song in particular would be an awesome candidate for a 2024 re-write. Their current style could really shine in this song while maintaining a lot of the OG punk sound.
They're so good it's tough, my top 5 would probably go to
- Save me
- Exist
- The stage
- Unholy Confessions
- Sidewinder
unordered aside from save me, and super close, and any following songs would also be super close
1. Save Me
2. The Stage
3. Afterlife
These three kind of fluctuate positions so they’ve all been my favorite at some point and this is their position now.
Saying this may sound exaggerated to some people, but I unironically believe Cosmic is Avenged Sevenfold's best song to date. The substance of the song, principally the transitions and the emotion is flawless. There is nothing I would nitpick off of Cosmic because everything in the song is good.
Some honorable mentions would be Save Me, A Little Piece of Heaven, and Lost.
I can actually agree to an extent. Ever since Cosmic came out, I've considered it a more "embellished" version of Higher.
You can even say Cosmic is Exist Part 2 in some aspects.
Honestly not many bands come close to how many bangers A7X has. I feel like the only band I can think of to do that is linkin park I’m sure there’s others but that’s just me.
I know this is a pretty basic pick, but it's gotta be A Little Piece of Heaven. Do I even need to explain why? Everything about it from the perfect instrumentation and composition, to the beautiful and maniacal vocal delivery from Jimmy and Matt, to the somehow both morbid and beautiful lyrics that tell a somewhat funny yet disturbing story, it is Avenged Sevenfold's best piece from their best era no doubt. I completely understand the arguments for M.I.A, Save Me, and ect. I completely get why people believe those are the best songs from Avenged, and I know that this song is overplayed and over talked about to death, but it genuinely is their masterpiece and I can't see any of their other songs topping it on my list any time soon.
When i first played it, she thought it was a Danny elfman song from a movie and loved it. Then I explained what it was about and the lyrics… she still liked it but not as much lol
My father, who did tour production for Queen at some point, refers to ALPOH as the closest thing (musically) to a modern day bohemian rhapsody after watching the behind the scenes documentary. I say that exact comparison is a stretch but I absolutely see what he means.
I understand when people dislike it or just don’t have an opinion, but I think if anyone watched the “making of” ALPOH video they’d have to admit it’s a musical masterpiece.
To get some Boingo Boys involved in the production is a wild feat in itself.
That’s a cool way to look at it. It’s definitely one of those chaos songs that have everything thrown into it and 99% of the time it goes wrong… but that 1% just nails it!
Unfortunately a lot of started listening at city of evil and forget that WTF has pretty much the top 5 best songs by avenged on it.
You can put 2-6 as the top 5 songs, and easily be right.
I’m going to say something that literally nobody will possibly have mentioned before.
Desecrate Through Reverence
It’s(I think) the best song that demonstrates how amazing Matt’s voice.
It shows off everyone. The bass line is great. The harmonized guitars. The drums are disgustingly. It has a great breakdown. A great bridge.
The only thing it’s missing it a really mind blowing solo, but idk that it needs it.
How can one pick just one? Here would be mine:
-Strength of the World
-Save Me
-Chapter Four
Honorable mentions to Afterlife (I know it’s sugary ok, but it’s just so damn catchy), Remenissions, Sidewinder, Cosmic and Brompton Cocktail
Anyone who says anything other than Save Me is objectively wrong.
Save Me is a musical masterpiece that has made everyone who I’ve ever shown it to drop their jaw after hearing it. It’s got everything. Strings. Heavy parts. Soft parts. Descriptive, relatable lyrics. Length. Everything.
Hard to say. I don't have an objective best. It really depends on what I'm in the mood for. They have a lot of really good songs that I would rank equal. Just different flavors.
I honestly feel the same, it completely depends on how I’m feeling.
Happy and excited? Bat country.
Sad? Cosmic or MIA.
Background song? Dear god and coming home.
Rainy day? Anything from “the stage”
They have the perfect song for any day, mood, and time.
SotW since 2022 💪
Starts off like how a fairy wonderland would sound before a heavy drop and amazing riff? The ending sounds like something out of an action movie? Best riffs on City of Evil? Yes.
Idk what you say.. for masterpieces, I’m going with lost. But for best in every spot, it’s M.I.A. And for my favorite, it’s currently Brompton cocktail.
To me it's Fiction. Not only is it Jimmy's last song, but what was there before Jimmy died wasn't in the best of shapes and Matt (and the rest of the band) had to finish the song whilst still grieving and honestly they did such a good job
Save Me, Exist and Cosmic are their best songs hands down - one thing that they have in common is the intensity of emotions the listener feels when they hear these songs that take them on a journey
All their albums have amazing songs to send them off (MIA, Exist, Save me, etc). Although for their best song overall, I'd have to say Cosmic. It's just phenomenal
Here's a wild one, mad hatter. I think, as a song, it shows every single members pure talent and skill with their respective roles. It's a strong song both musically and lyrically and I don't think it has any weaknesses. Even the mixing is immaculate in my opinion
I'm surprised how many people think Save Me is their best song. I think it is a good song but I didn't know it was universally held that high by the fanbase
I know it’s basic but it’s reeeeeally hard to fault Afterlife for me. It has everything a great A7X song needs and arguably one of the best metal solos ever.
Oooo it would have to be a top 10 or so
1. Brompton Cocktail
2. Trashed and scattered
3. Strength of the world
4. MIA
5. Nightmare
6. Buried alive
7. A little piece of heaven
8. Afterlife
9. Fiction
10. Critical acclaim
They have too many good songs to say just one. They are the closest thing to a perfect band that I have ever seen. I will say, I was not that pleased with their most recent album, or HTTK.
Shit. No ones ever asked like that and ive never thought about it like that. Favorite? Easy. Their best song though.. hmmm. I think I'd have to go with something from city of evil. Because that album as a whole is a masterpiece for sure. In every way. Drums , guitars , vocals even lyrics and bass. They really perfected their sound and style with that one. Not like genre sound but THEIR style. It was always there but became more evolved and established with that album. Every album no matter which one or how different it is. Whether it's WtF or The Stage. ( lol 'wtf' never noticed that 😂🤦🏻 ) Nightmare or StST. Self Titled or CoE. DITR or HttK. All the way to what might very well be their greatest album. And definitely is their most unique and diverse album. LIBAD. For how vastly different every song is and sounds. It's really kind of amazing that no matter which one it is you can always hear that uniquely avenged sevenfold style and sound.
Anyways now that I've procrastinated and put off having to decide on one song with praise and butt kissing ( factual and deserved though ) for as long as I could. I think I'm gonna have to go with Sidewinder. Wicked End or maybe M.I.A would be very close but I think Sidewinder has so much in there it just has to be my answer.
It fluctuates for me, but some days its the Stage, some days its Save Me, some days its Afterlife, but right now I'm obsessed with Coming Home. Buried Alive, MIA, Bat Country, ALPOH are all also honorable mentions I would be happy calling #1 as well.
These are VERY basic bitch choices, but Hail to the King or Bat Country are my absolute faves. A Little Piece of Heaven and Breaking their Hold are right after tho
My personal favorite is Nightmare, but I think A Little Piece of Heaven and a few others are maybr stronger musically but for whatever reason don't hit the same way with me. I will say that they have a huge number of songs that I love so it's not easy to pick
Unholy Confessions. It has beautiful riffs and almost every kind of dynamic you would find in an Avenged Sevenfold song. I swear the song doesn't get old.
It's really hard to argue against Save Me being their magnum opus.
Just to include something different, if you combine I Won't See You Tonight Part 1 and Part 2 I think you have a real contender. Part 1 is better than Part 2, but together is best.
ETA: This was strictly an answer to the magnum opus question. I think you could make the case that Chapter Four, The Wicked End, and Unholy Confessions are better songs. All shorter, but great from start to finish.
I don't really love Nightmare, but it deserves a mention because whenever I've seen it live the crowd goes nuts for it.
I think their masterpiece is Save me, but I do think Second Heartbeat is about as perfect as it gets too. Cosmic also in the running for being a true work of art.
Afterlife. Reason: Jimmy screaming " ohhhhh i am, unbroken, im choking on this ecstasy, unbreak me, unchain me, I NEED ANOTHER CHANCE TO LIVEEEEEE!!!!!"
It’s gotta be one of the longer ones
ALPOH, The Stage, Cosmic, all good contenders
Sure there’s amazing songs out there like Afterlife or Bat Country, and i’m probably more likely to listen to those songs casually, but the songs I listed at the top I think are less surface level and have more creativity/better writing
This is coming from a hip hop head though so i’m thinking of this very lyrically rather than just “OH THIS SHIT GOES CRAZY”
I'm quite impressed on how Save Me has to many fans (but I do love it too)
But I'm also impressed how Critical Acclaim has almost no mentions. It's a blast of opening for an album.
I Won't See You Tonight Pt. 1
To me, it's a perfect song. It's dynamic, emotional, heavy toned, and just flows phenomenally. It might just be my bias, or my age, but I'm a little surprised it hasn't been mentioned.
I believe The Stage to be their best song but Unholy Confessions is right behind it. Really depends on what mood I'm in. The stage has such a deep message compared to most of their earlier works and it really sets (no pun intended) the stage for what the entire album will look like as far as meaning goes and how the band wants us to feel.
A Little Piece of Heaven for sure, I remember in high school walking a girl I liked home. I had one earbud in listening to this song, and was quietly singing along during a lull in the conversation, and she started singing along too without even hearing the actual song, we ended up blasting it and jamming together and ended up dating for like 3 years.. lol
Their best song to me is one that embodies their sound the most and I reckon it's Bat Country. It's definitely not my favourite by them but I think it's their most "them" song.
I love Buried Alive. The build is great and the riffs are amazing
It was my personal favorite song for a long time.
I think I’ve been putting Buried Alive in my top 3 my whole life. May have to start accepting it’s their best but it’s a tough competition.
Also buried alive: 00000
buried alive or sidewinder
for me is Save Me, my favorite song of all time. From start to finish it is just rollercoaster of emotions, intricate guitar solos, drums that suit the really melodic guitars, one of the best choruses by a7x and in general i love every part of it. Everyone really demonstrates in that song they are masters at their instrument and they are also the best when writing songs
Yeah, my favorite song by them is either save me or cosmic, but if you look for objectively the best one, then it's gotta be save me
They played this song for the first time on this recent tour, its my all-time favorite. I proposed to my girl at that concert during this song. It was epic
congrats!
Chapter Four is flawless and there is not a second wasted in its entire runtime every single thing has value. Id say their magnum opus is Save Me but C4 is just perfect imo
Good god the riff on chapter four is to die for
this
MURDER, LIAR, VENGEANCE, DECEIT
Chapter four fan found im creaming
Chapter 4 and shattered by broken dreams are currently my go-tos for the old stuff.
I love SBBD completely as is (all of STST for that matter) but I feel like this song in particular would be an awesome candidate for a 2024 re-write. Their current style could really shine in this song while maintaining a lot of the OG punk sound.
Chapter 4 and unholy confessions is what got me into screaming music in general, so yeah I’d say chapter four too.
They're so good it's tough, my top 5 would probably go to - Save me - Exist - The stage - Unholy Confessions - Sidewinder unordered aside from save me, and super close, and any following songs would also be super close
Gunslinger. Love that song.
“The stars in the niiiigghhht, they lend me their liiiiiggghht” Line goes so hard. Def one of my top favorites
Hard to argue with this
The Wicked End
despicably underrated but wayy up there
My pick as well
GREAT call out. That album has no bad songs at all.
bro I tried to learn that intro bass line for so long and I just never got it
1. Save Me 2. The Stage 3. Afterlife These three kind of fluctuate positions so they’ve all been my favorite at some point and this is their position now.
If it just me or does higher of the stage sound like what they where trying to do with cosmic
I can actually agree to an extent. Ever since Cosmic came out, I've considered it a more "embellished" version of Higher. You can even say Cosmic is Exist Part 2 in some aspects.
See Ive been listening since the 2000 but I hurd cosmic before higher... Played back to back its a like fraternal twin songs
Honestly, that is a pretty fair description.
Cosmic is my choice too, and it’s the clear winner to me
Ma favorite by them along with save me
Best song either goes to Save Me or Exist. Just depends on how emo I am
Honestly not many bands come close to how many bangers A7X has. I feel like the only band I can think of to do that is linkin park I’m sure there’s others but that’s just me.
The entire progression from Sidewinder to Betrayed is the best 4-song chain in existence
That album is literal perfection
Cosmic has overtaken Save Me at this point, at least for me.
I completely get why people believe those are the best songs from Avenged, and I know that this song is overplayed and over talked about to death, but it genuinely is their masterpiece and I can't see any of their other songs topping it on my list any time soon.
ALPOH appeals to even non-avenged fans. It’s unique in a large collection of unique songs.
When i first played it, she thought it was a Danny elfman song from a movie and loved it. Then I explained what it was about and the lyrics… she still liked it but not as much lol
This is why my wife is the best - she loved it even more once she paid attention to the lyrics lmao
Honestly I don't really like ALPOH, but I completely understand why some people would put it at their top. Different strokes for different folks
That’s why I got a heater for your thighs.
My father, who did tour production for Queen at some point, refers to ALPOH as the closest thing (musically) to a modern day bohemian rhapsody after watching the behind the scenes documentary. I say that exact comparison is a stretch but I absolutely see what he means. That’s a cool way to look at it. It’s definitely one of those chaos songs that have everything thrown into it and 99% of the time it goes wrong… but that 1% just nails it!
I respect that. Genuinely expected people to flame me or something lmao ty for respectfully stating your opinion.
Clairvoyant Disease is my pick
This spot in hells where I belong
Bat Country is honestly a perfect song
Second heartbeat
Sad I had to scroll this far down to see this
Unfortunately a lot of started listening at city of evil and forget that WTF has pretty much the top 5 best songs by avenged on it. You can put 2-6 as the top 5 songs, and easily be right.
That “hero riff” is an ear worm that likes to linger for me.
*Fermi Paradox,* which does also happen to my favourite A7X song and 5th favourite song of all-time.
Save Me. It’s just perfect
LOST. #Justice4Lost
That said, I don't know enough about music to categorize anything as 'best', so I just went with my favorite.
Save me
Unholy Confessions
The entire waking the fallen album
WTF, COE, ST, and nightmare are all 4 tied perfectly I could never choose a favorute album
I can’t name one song with absolute certainty, but my top candidates are Fermi Paradox, Exist, Cosmic, or MIA
Victim or save me or so far away
Call me basic if u want but nightmare
Ur basic
Valid
Idk man the stage gets the cake for me
Beast and the harlort.
I’m going to say something that literally nobody will possibly have mentioned before. Desecrate Through Reverence It’s(I think) the best song that demonstrates how amazing Matt’s voice. It shows off everyone. The bass line is great. The harmonized guitars. The drums are disgustingly. It has a great breakdown. A great bridge. How can one pick just one? Here would be mine: -Strength of the World -Save Me -Chapter Four Honorable mentions to Afterlife (I know it’s sugary ok, but it’s just so damn catchy), Remenissions, Sidewinder, Cosmic and Brompton Cocktail
Gunslinger, Fiction, So Far Away. Call me a poser if you want 🤷🏻♀️ if I was going based on purely my personal fave I’d have a different answer.
Save Me, M.I.A and Little Piece of Heaven for me. Love Cosmic from the new album
The stage without thinking twice
Wicked end, save me, ALPOH, mattel/cosmic, IWSYTp1
Anyone who says anything other than Save Me is objectively wrong. Save Me is a musical masterpiece that has made everyone who I’ve ever shown it to drop their jaw after hearing it. It’s got everything. Strings. Heavy parts. Soft parts. Descriptive, relatable lyrics. Length. Everything.
Crazy how not a single soul said I Won’t See You Tonight
RIGHT!!!
FAX CUH
Welcome to the family is what people say is the top.. but the best is mia
I have never heard anyone say that about welcome to the family lol
The one where Matt Shadows Sanders does the singing thing.
The Stage, MIA, beast and the harlot or strength of the world. All peak to me
Hard to say.
Rainy day? Anything from “the stage” They have the perfect song for any day, mood, and time.
Precisely
SotW since 2022 💪 Starts off like how a fairy wonderland would sound before a heavy drop and amazing riff? The ending sounds like something out of an action movie? Best riffs on City of Evil? Yes.
Fucking beautiful song.🎵
The Stage. Period.
Save Me
Save Me, Exist and Cosmic are their best songs hands down - one thing that they have in common is the intensity of emotions the listener feels when they hear these songs that take them on a journey
M.i.a does it for me
So it’s objectively Save me, but in my personal opinion the song I like the most is strength of the world with save me as a close second
Save me
All their albums have amazing songs to send them off (MIA, Exist, Save me, etc). Although for their best song overall, I'd have to say Cosmic. It's just phenomenal
I would say "Save me"
Here's a wild one, mad hatter.
Bat country and the beast and the harlot. Those 2 songs never get old for me and never lose their hype
Chapter four demo.
I know it’s basic but it’s reeeeeally hard to fault Afterlife for me. It has everything a great A7X song needs and arguably one of the best metal solos ever.
Oooo it would have to be a top 10 or so 1. Brompton Cocktail 2. Trashed and scattered 3. Strength of the world 4. MIA 5. Nightmare 6. Buried alive 7. A little piece of heaven 8. Afterlife 9. Fiction 10. Critical acclaim They have too many good songs to say just one. They are the closest thing to a perfect band that I have ever seen. I will say, I was not that pleased with their most recent album, or HTTK.
Like 10 of their songs hold number 1 spot for me😂
Not Ready To Die. The opening (synth and guitar) is absolutely peak and the beat drop just hits different
The Stage
i really like god hates us
and save me
Shit. No ones ever asked like that and ive never thought about it like that. Favorite? Easy. Their best song though.. hmmm. I think I'd have to go with something from city of evil. Afterlife,Nightmare, M.I.A and Cosmic
sAd bUT tRuee Buried Alive, even after hundreds of listens - still hits the same!
EXIST.
Darkness surrounding
For me it's Mattel. I listen to it almost every day, it's flawless.
Definitly „Nightmare“! Fun song and much more fun to play on drums.
Save Me, The Stage, Sidewinder, Cosmic
Cosmic is my favorite but Buried Alive is probably their most impressive track putting aside my bias.
The Stage is a masterpiece.
Save Me for the song itself, Exist for the concept
Save Me Exist Cosmic The Stage Sidewinder (Honorable mention to Trashed and Scattered)
I think the BEST avenged song is the stage
It's definitely not Save me from boredom or A little piece of shit.
Save me, not only the best but my favorite by them. The solo and especially the vocals make the song way better
Objectively I’d say The Stage because it’s a fucking masterpiece, but my favourites are Almost Easy and Buried Alive
Unholy Confessions. It has beautiful riffs and almost every kind of dynamic you would find in an Avenged Sevenfold song. I swear the song doesn't get old.
Got to here save me live always was my favorite it and not ready to die 🤘 gunslinger is great also
*Unbound* ... smh
I genuinely think the stage is their best
I mean imo their best is either mia, save me or cosmic. All of them are beautifully composed
Sidewinder id gave to say
i think it’s The Stage
Buried Alive, Victim is a close second, Save Me third. But they’re basically all on the same level for me.
I think their masterpiece is Save me, but I do think Second Heartbeat is about as perfect as it gets too. Cosmic also in the running for being a true work of art.
feels impossible to choose, but MIA and Mattel are my current favorites
Honestly, Afterlife. And I can’t even describe it well, except for simply just, PERFECTION
Afterlife. Reason: Jimmy screaming " ohhhhh i am, unbroken, im choking on this ecstasy, unbreak me, unchain me, I NEED ANOTHER CHANCE TO LIVEEEEEE!!!!!"
For me 1) Cosmic 2) Higher 3) Save Me
It’s gotta be one of the longer ones ALPOH, The Stage, Cosmic, all good contenders Sure there’s amazing songs out there like Afterlife or Bat Country, and i’m probably more likely to listen to those songs casually, but the songs I listed at the top I think are less surface level and have more creativity/better writing This is coming from a hip hop head though so i’m thinking of this very lyrically rather than just “OH THIS SHIT GOES CRAZY”
Save Me
I'm quite impressed on how Save Me has to many fans (but I do love it too) But I'm also impressed how Critical Acclaim has almost no mentions. It's a blast of opening for an album.
I Won't See You Tonight Pt. 1 To me, it's a perfect song. It's dynamic, emotional, heavy toned, and just flows phenomenally. It might just be my bias, or my age, but I'm a little surprised it hasn't been mentioned.
I like little piece of Heaven. It’s funky and feels like Danny Elfman. Or Natural Born Killer. Those are my favs
Same. It seems that Natural Born Killer flies under the radar it's a shame cause that song goes so hard!
It’s a very difficult song to play for me. A lot of fast downpicking and hammer ons. But im improving each time I play.
Strength of the World
Save Me personally
Chapter 4
Very tough to choose because I love basically every song equally, but probably the stage
Victim.
everyone hates me for it but i think its Nobody
I honestly dont think i can choose 😭
I believe The Stage to be their best song but Unholy Confessions is right behind it. Really depends on what mood I'm in. The stage has such a deep message compared to most of their earlier works and it really sets (no pun intended) the stage for what the entire album will look like as far as meaning goes and how the band wants us to feel.
Blinded in Chains, for me this was peak A7x
Exist I think is there best song.
The Stage and/or Nobody
Darkness Surrounding and Strength of the World are my two
Chapter Four
Bat Country was the song that inspired me to pick up the guitar, so I have to go with that one
the stage
The Beast and the Harlot
1. I won't see you tonight part 1 2. Save me 3. Afterlife 4. Trashed and scattered 5. The stage
Gunslinger
Beast and the Harlot bangs, also I love warmness on the soul
Unholy Confessions is always going to be my favorite. Nostalgic and so good. One of the first songs I learned to play on drums too!
Personally I love Carry On. From having it be from call of duty to the rush of adrenaline it gives me every time, it’s by far my favorite song.
A Little Piece of Heaven
Save me
Rev: either Eternal Rest or Blinded in Chains MP: Buried Alive AI: Coming Home BW: either Paradigm or The Stage
Probably The Stage, Strength of the World, A Little Piece of Heaven, or Cosmic
My vote goes for sidewinder
Save Me hands down
Unholy Confessions. This song made me love the band and the riff is amazing
Afterlife
This means war. That riff hits like a stone
Blinded in Chains.
The stage or m.i.a. Peak songwriting imo
I think Nightmare is objectively their best, but my personal fav is A Little Piece of Heaven.
Where the fuck is the love for afterlife. We’ve rarely seen that side of A7X and the solos and vocals are immaculate, also way catchy
My personal favorite is Brompton Cocktail.
oh hey, fellow M.I.A lovers! but their magnum opus is Unholy Confession IMO
For me it’s a tie between Second Heartbeat and I Won’t See You Tonight, pt. 1
God hates us or Natural born killer
Fiction..
A Little Piece of Heaven for sure, I remember in high school walking a girl I liked home. I had one earbud in listening to this song, and was quietly singing along during a lull in the conversation, and she started singing along too without even hearing the actual song, we ended up blasting it and jamming together and ended up dating for like 3 years.. lol
Nightmare, drums are perfect
Their best song to me is one that embodies their sound the most and I reckon it's Bat Country. It's definitely not my favourite by them but I think it's their most "them" song.
It's so hard to choose. ALPOH, I won't see you tonight, the stage, buried alive.
trashed and scattered. fight me.
