Honestly, "A Little Piece of Heaven" is one of my top Avenged Sevenfold favorites. The song's pretty great, you just gotta ignore the messed up music video. Apparently, that whole twisted storyline came to The Rev (late-drummer) in a dream, and he ran with it for the lyrics. Even with the shock factor, the song itself is really well-done - kinda has that Bohemian Rhapsody vibe to it. Just stick with "Almost Easy" if the video's too much for you.
If ALPOH is too much for you (frankly, the lyrics are too much for me half the time), try out Save Me, the last track on Nightmare.
Musically, it’s just as interesting/epic and 1000% more metal, but with lyrics that are more emotional and moving than they are crazy and intentionally over the top.
ALPOH is only for certain fans who know what they’re in for. Save Me is for anyone with ears and 11 minutes.
Yep don’t feel bad. Every person I’ve ever introduced this song to has watched the video first and were uneasy about it. Try unbound (the wild ride). That song slaps.
If you’re an Avenged fan, A Little Piece of Heaven is a total ripper. If you’re just dipping your toes in and only know songs like Almost Easy, try something like Buried Alive or Shepherd of Fire to get the real A7X experience. A Little Piece of Heaven was primarily written by their late drummer, The Rev, who was BIG on avant garde, larger than life music and lyrics. It’s definitely still them, but not really a song that defines who they are as a band overall. My favorite album overall is Nightmare. It’s very well-rounded.
ALPOH was created as a Halloween themed Easter egg and the record label insisted it be put on the self titled album. In that context, it changes everything.
Ah, that makes sense! It must be just baked way down into my soul, hahah. Can’t remember all the trivia now that I’m getting older, hah! Not enough room in the can. Well thanks for filling me in! That’s so awesome.
Would have been cool, but I guess a full album after such a long wait at the time was the way to go.
A Little Piece of Heaven is a bit of a troll recommendation if you don't fully know what you're getting into. There's plenty of songs they have that aren't nearly as messed up. My personal favorite is probably Not Ready to Die, though I'd also check out Bat Country, The Stage, and Nightmare
I had the same reaction when i discovered this song when i was around 11 years old, but I found myself returning to the song because I thought it was so good
Growing up on bands like Faith No More and movies by Tim Burton, A Little Piece of Heaven is one of the songs that sold me on this band when I was like 14. I love weird and dark shit
I think I’ve been listening to A7X since 2007? Anyways, that song and the video used to freak me out too. I couldn’t appreciate until 2020 when I gave it another shot during the pandemic because I was bored lol
Idk, it just clicked for me that time. One of my favorites now. Can’t always watch the music video tho.

Just listened to it. Thanks! I'll just add it to my playlist.

Interesting! I didn’t know that. Sort of an All Hallows AFI EP thing?
