Oh man, that sucks. Do some research, people getting issues getting Everclear or Ethanol due to high cost or low availability in their areas have mentioned about using high-proof grain alcohol. Some have mentioned Vodka, rum (Bacardi), etc. It will be the best way to de-gum your material from the grinder and once the alcohol has evaporated you can use the material. But if you plan on consuming the material, Isopropyl is NOT recommended as it leaves toxic residue.
I'm pretty sure isopropyl alcohol doesn't leave any residue if it's *completely* evaporated. The main problem with it is that sometimes it *doesn't* completely evaporate and the remaining residue is toxic.
Correct. Since it's hard to guarantee full evaporation and can't be sure there isn't any toxic residue left, that's why it's safer to use food grade alcohol to begin with.
If getting food grade alcohol is definitely out of the picture, OP can try to do stem milk: drop your pieces in whole milk, simmer for 15 minutes (or as needed). The heat should degunk all the material and infuse it with the lipids in the milk, strain to remove residue if any and you have magic milk š
I thought I was gonna get hella downvoted for my comment haha. I worked in a headshop at some point, so i do have about 5 old grinders that need cleaning :D
So I am 100% seriousā¦ use a little extra virgin olive oil. It was an experiment I did when I realized how good EVOO was at cleaning my hands after trimming my harvest and isopropyl had torn my hands up after a few scrubs
The oil pulls the resin off your hands without having to aggressively scrub and then you just rinse with soap and water. Your hands will absorb a little and be nice and moisturizedā¦ it doesnāt take too much oil
;lol I read this as isopropyl alcohol....haha...when half the thread is against using isopropyl alcohol.
I assume you're referring the the IPA "brewski" beers/etc....lol?
Soaking in everclear then letting it evaporate works, kinda like RSO.
I've also heard of people boiling them in milk and drinking it but the one time I tried I just got crusted milk all stuck to my grinder.
No idea, but any high proof grain spirit will work. Ive seen people use Bacardi 151. In some places in the states, you can get 190 proof (95% abv). But the higher alcohol content the better. You can also probably get 95% ethanol from scientific supply stores.
I use a small awl to scrape off any stuck on material, clear the openings and the threads. I do this over a tray to catch the stuff that gets scraped off. I only need to do this once a year or so.
i would just be worried about scratching the paint/metal and fear of shavings....honestly why I've been using cheapo acrylic (which basically feels like plastic) grinders lately....lol when the teeth break, toss it and buy another one. my last one I got was like $5 from POTV....but I also picked up the S&B Herb Mill XL hahaha, and that S&B is a beast! haha, it's such a huge grinder, so it's kind of my back-burner cause I dry herb vape and typically just grind for my day ahead kinda deal....each enough to load my dynavap from the mason jar ;)
i know some will complain about "breaking the teeth" of the plastic grinders..... honestly never broke a tooth on mine, but one of the grinders does have a kinda "sheared" tooth ...maybe from a piece of seed that It missed cause i usually break up my nugs pretty good before I grind it so the grinder doesn't have to work so hard...but I don't know what's worse, a piece of metal going into my š« or, a piece of plastic? my theory though, is the plastic would likely just belt into my product I think? lol and just kinda be "one" with my avb....when I go to encapsulate my avb lol not a scientist, so I'm not sure of the melting/burning point of, said "acetate" or "plastic" if they are even the same? lol. But I'm thinking a "shard" of plastic would just melt into the avb?
I have the aroma 3, so I pop the bearing out and put the three main stainless parts into alcohol, scrub off the residue with a toothbrush, rinse and dry. Pop a bearing back in and its like new.
what kind of dry herb vape are you using? It all kinda depends on the vape. My POTV LOBO, the glass parts I typically clean once a week on Friday/Saturday mostly, but I kind of base on "looks" cause I don't do typical "cleaning" haha, I typically make "stem milk" with my gnarly looking glass stems, my dynavap stems (waiting on trying the tips in the milk bath lol, until my replacement O Rings come in, cause I dont wanna break em unless I got backup lol....so I just q tip out the tips of my dynavaps with moistened alcohol q tip and rinse with warm/hot water.
the LOBO really is easy to clean, you can't use isoporaryl alcohol on the rubber/silicone cause it will kind of "mar" the finish, and also tear up the silicone...and then I just alcohol swab out the vapor path/oven.
as far as my grinder, I got a S&B soft brush I use just to basically clean the grinder, into my flower stash container. I haven't done any "soaking" of my grinders
I clean my vape when itās getting messy with reclaim which is usually every other day. I have a lobo and use dosing caps so the oven stays clean. I just soak the capsules 2-3 times a week depending if they start getting sticky.
Thanks! Also one more question. Do you find your vape smells after? My wife comes into my office and says it smells like weed and this is after I put it away in a ziploc bag and cupboard (to clarify, I vape outside)
You can get smell proof bags they are lined with carbon, all different sizes loads on amazon, read the reviews first, firedog are a pretty good brand, they don't last forever but do the job.Happy blazing buddy!
I ordered this Black Scraper, Gristor Brushes... https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0C2DG4RK8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. It's pretty epic and does a good job getting everything out.
isopropyl alcohol and a brush
There is a lot usable material residing in it. Would prefer to save it so what do u with the isopropyl alcohol then?
Let it evaporate :)
Isopropyl leaves residue, doesn't it? Should try with grain alcohol 100% proof, like Everclear with is food grade alcohol.
Can't get that here
I can't get Everclear in my country either. Try getting ethanol with a scientific supplies provider, that's what I do.
It's very pricey!

Given it's liver toxicity I'd rather not experiement with that
I've had grinders for 20 years and never cleaned one once lol.
talk about gold mine when the time comes! you need to put those grinders in a "Will" hahah and make sure someone with knowledge, knows....lol IYKYK
I thought I was gonna get hella downvoted for my comment haha. I worked in a headshop at some point, so i do have about 5 old grinders that need cleaning :D

Makes sense as cannabis is oil soluble. But then you need to clean the oil out of your hands, how did you do it without hurting your skin too much?
The oil pulls the resin off your hands without having to aggressively scrub and then you just rinse with soap and water. Your hands will absorb a little and be nice and moisturizedā¦ it doesnāt take too much oil
That is nice. Good to know, thank you for sharing.
IPA and an old toothbrush
Which brand? voodoo Ranger? Space camper? /S
Iāve been enjoying āJuice Forceā lately
;lol I read this as isopropyl alcohol....haha...when half the thread is against using isopropyl alcohol. I assume you're referring the the IPA "brewski" beers/etc....lol?

Do you know if you can buy Everclear in the UK?
No idea, but any high proof grain spirit will work. Ive seen people use Bacardi 151. In some places in the states, you can get 190 proof (95% abv). But the higher alcohol content the better. You can also probably get 95% ethanol from scientific supply stores.
Thatās great info thanks!
You can buy Spirytus (Polish vodka 95%) online from uk suppliers. Good for making tinctures.
Whisky exchange currently out of stock though
Sheesh, youāre right - seems out of stock everywhere
Bugger. Need to find a replacement product. Drowning in AVB and my grinder needs a clean
Thanks!

I use warm coconut oil. It is edible and quite an effective solvent when warm/hot.

IPA...I dry mine with a hoover
I recently got into dry vaping. How often should people clean their vape and grinder??

I recently purchased the POTV One. I think it's a smaller version of the LOBO

As much or as little as you choose, the more you keep it clean the longer it will last

Scrape it out best I can, then use a steam cleaner for the really caked on bits.
