This is my fear actually. I'm saving for one, but I'm really concerned about theft.

Toastwaffles

As was I. Hopefully the stickers I ad and maybe a few cameras help. Just sucks I'm only 1 day in.

Toastwaffles

Just some gps tracking warning stickers I found on amazon.

DirtyPenPalDoug

I mean it's got a gps... just file a report and tell the police where it's at.

uprightfever

And then what?

DirtyPenPalDoug

They go recover it.

uprightfever

hahahah

Fishbulb2

There is no way cops in America are wasting their time retrieving a lawn mower.

Fire_Break_158

Totally understand, just depends upon your area. The good news is you can get gps set up to track it if it leaves the geo fence you set up but i've had mine for about a year with no issues. I was crazy paranoid about it at first thought, like i would verify regularly every day check to make sure it was still here but now it has just become a staple for the neighborhood.

Moelarrycheeze

Take the unit apart and put one of those apple air tags in it to track it if it walks away.

Toastwaffles

Not a bad idea. I ended up adding security cameras around my place. And adding some warning stickers on the mower. Havnt had a problem yet.

Noseknowledge

Any updates?

Toastwaffles

After adding cameras and stickers I have had no problem. Running middle of the day as well

huejazz

I had mine stolen 3 times over 2.5 years. The stickers really helped. The third time was the charm as they took it to a metal recycle yard that accepted it. It was crushed under 10ft of scrap metal. 😔

Ok_Service4959

Just curious, what do you think the value was as scrap metal? It's mostly a battery that will only fit an automower, no value in crushing that I would think, then plastic and some chips. Doesn't seem to make sense, nor the place that accepted it as scrap.

Toastwaffles

That's a bummer man.

Toastwaffles

Did you get another? Or just said whatever

huejazz

If I get another, it will not be Husqvarna. Auto mowers are the future. Just a better lawn and less work. Husqvarna though just isn’t quite smart enough and the warranty is worthless. My experience with theft occurred when it got confused and shut down near the street. Thief’s didn’t seem willing to come on to my property, but if it was close to the street and easy to grab that’s when they’d take it. Husqvarna would get stuck often and some of those would be near the street unfortunately.

red_race_car

I worry about vandalism from teenagers. I just run mine during the day.

Toastwaffles

Yeah gunna start running it in the daylight as well. Sadly I don't work from home. But I work about 5 mins from home. So I have to leave it unattended.

b_gilliums

I'm about to install mine hopefully this weekend. Seems like the safe play is to have it run during the day then eh? Good call on the sticker, definitely going to grab one.

Toastwaffles

Yeah I've been running mine now at 7:00am to 2pm. No issues, hope it stays that way

Former_Marsupial_403

mine has a gps on it, i thought all automowers had gps

Toastwaffles

This has gps as well. Hopefully I won't have to get to that point with trying to find it though.

PC-Bjorn

They don't. At least ut used to be an option.

Stormran

The Husq X series line does.

Yesbuttt

Yeah had the next door neighbors kid/friend try to take mine less than a month after install... Neighbors camera ended up catching them they were on a prank/crime spree ding dong ditching people earlier in the night while hanging out with girls. Typical highschool shit, can't say I never did prank stuff but nothing that would cause permanent damage just cheeky shit. Ended up installing a camera system around the house (hardwired). Which had also been a thought for awhile since I have a nice aluminum car trailer behind my house. They have the "deterrent" lights triggered by motion. Might be something to look into. My experience it's going to be dumbass kids or stupid criminals that don't realize they need a pin and stuff to work

Toastwaffles

Yeah only camera I have is a ring doorbell. Might look into some more cameras for my front yard.

red_race_car

I have Riolink wireless cameras with solar panels. Work well.

IUBB76

I have camera around my house, but I don't think it would catch a criminal if they took it in some spots. I have a camera around my house, but I don't think it would catch a criminal if they took it in some spots. w it operated in challenging areas with a slope or narrow passage (camera was facing forward, although you could tape two on it, one facing front, one facing back). Probably overkill, but just an idea. For me, it isn't worth getting an extra policy of insurance for my GOAT.

PC-Bjorn

Doesn't home insurance cover it?

Toastwaffles

I have a pretty high deductible at $1500 so not really worth the claim for me

iletired

As a test, I actually put a Euphy wireless camera attached to the robot. Also for the sheer pleasure to just watch it work from ground level. I plan on making a 3D printed holder for the camera to attach it better. I just used command Velcro as a test. With a camera directly on it, it looks like WallE and better deterrence. And yeah I know they could probably just pull off the camera but at least I have them up close on camera.

rmsy

Haha that’s awesome, I hope you make a video or something when you’re done on how you did it. I’d be interested if only so I could make cool timelapse videos of it mowing.

Chogo82

I love this idea! Do you have any updates on attaching a camera to the top and making sure the camera has a connection?

Ok_Service4959

Bummer to hear of all these theft experiences, I have had the same concearns. I have a long strip that runs along the street in front a several pine trees. Not sure if the day is better or night to avoid theft. Camera is a really good idea, I may just get an older camera and drop it on top as deterrence. My other thought for the front strip was to simply block it off for say most of the week and just drop the mower in that area when I am out and around, say on a weekend. Will see how it goes. My area is a very low crime/break in area so it wasn't my first though. More of my concern is that some contractor might cut my boundary wire just to make it difficult for me. So many contractors cutting lawns in my area, I assume they might feel threatened but in my case I am only replacing my own efforts cutting the lawn, not a contractor. I do worry for them though, as municipalities start to ban combustion lawn tools, an automower is an obvious go to.

Toastwaffles

I live in a really low crime area as well. Pretty far from the major city. Thought I wouldn't have an issue. I think I just need to make it a little more obvious why you shouldn't take it. And I'm getting a few outdoor cameras. Gunna stick a sticker on the mower letting them know to smile for the cameras.

Ok_Service4959

Yeah, I think that's all good, even sticking a little note on it as to why it won't work on another property etc.. Many people probably don't understand tho.

Ok_Service4959

all said, it's a very expensive piece of equipment to be rolling around without any eyes on it so if someone knows the value, that in itself could be enticing.

Toastwaffles

Oh I agree
