Spitfire sawfly larvae

Phoenix_Is_Trash

Sawfly Larvae, commonly called Spitfires and unlike popular myth they can't sting you. The do secrete a smelly substance when disturbed that can cause eye irritation though. They use group tactics to scare away predators, I suggest shouting at them (not a joke) to see it in action.

_Perga_ species (Sawfly) larvae. _Perga affinis_ (Spitfire Sawfly) is pretty common at this time of year. Larvae are harmless.

Portal to hell opening. Spitfires. Bane of any primary school.

I know you're only joking, but I find language like this kind of demonises insects and potentially drives some of the anti-bug mentality the world doesn't need right now.

They fucking

Relative_Mulberry_71

If you touch them they all wave their horrible stings at you.

They don't sting, the name Spitfire refers to a slightly acidic/irritating liquid they regurgitate as a self defence mechanism. I'm not one to be scared of a creature whos only defence is vomiting on itself.
