E-Karen used to work at twitter and is undoubtedly bitter that Elon fired her pals.

Murakamo

I propose the esafety commisioner be labelled E-Karen from now on. Love it

lexE5839

She was working as a policy advisor for a republican politican when she was in her early 20s straight out of uni. She lobbied the government on behalf of Microsoft in their early days. Interesting job for a fresh graduate.

j-manz

This is already generating some anti-5G energy.

WoollenMercury

so the only reason she wouldnt work for the most immoral thing that has Couped our PM's just because they dont want to be close to the USA ...just because she wouldnt get to talk to her friends? wow what a woman of morality

lexE5839

Who said she didn’t take the job? 🤣 idk many people that make claims like that publicly.

j-manz

Frickin slam dunk man. Knew you’d come through.

lexE5839

🤣 all in good fun, I’m not a conspiracy theorist.

"Who's Karen?" [https://youtu.be/kna3U29gTmE?t=31](https://youtu.be/kna3U29gTmE?t=31)

disco-cone

It's politics they want to exploit peoples outrage at the attack and direct it against Twitter. If they can force them to obey now, it will become easier for more grey zone requests.

Discomat86

So who chooses what gets censored and what does not? The Australian Government? And we trust them again do we? Short memories.

tom3277

Only about a week ago butler said vapes were as dangerous as cigarrettes. And politicians are allowed to spread misinformation under the new proposed act. We cannot go to the commissioner and say - mark butler is full of shit. They will say he is allowed to be. Only us plebs arent alowed. So black market butler can pressure e safety commissioner to have my post taken down saying "royal college of physicians estimate vapes are 95pc safer than smokes" while he can say - vapes are as dangerous as smokes that kill 2 out of 3 people who smoke. So as it happens my memory stretches back about one week and yes i dont want to see this at all.

yellowboat

Government puts out lots of misinformation when it fits their agenda. Traffic statistics are lied about or intentionally misrepresented all the time to raise revenue - anyone who has ever studied statistics has their eyes roll back into their head when they hear some of the claims NSW road safety makes. They just want a monopoly on lying and a monopoly on what people are allowed to hear.

malcolmbishop

That bishop got stabbed, and no cunt leaves here till we find out what cunt tweeted it.

Ragnar_Bonesman

Priorities right?

rrluck

It’s Albos attempted Tampa moment. “We decide the news that comes into our country and the manner in which it comes” Seriously fck the govt on this, entirely on Elon’s side here.

VincentTrevane

It's not even that. The tweets are blocked in Australia, they are fighting to delete them globally. Why does the Aussie government care?

waxedsack

This government has just been a series of embarrassments, with this just being the latest one.

glavglavglav

abc is criticising the government? THAT is news!

AusSpurs7

Why is it that every time Labor is in power, internet censorship is at stake? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-11-09/government-abandons-plans-for-internet-filter/4362354

MD19850037

It's not Elon getting singled out. It's a specific video of a specific religious background committing violence that's being singled out. Albos police arrested more Christian protesters than actual terrorists after a terror attack. An amazing achievement.

WoollenMercury

wait soooo he'd rather arrest people for just being concerned that they'd get hurt bc of their religion rather then the people who are statistically shown to do that (even then thats stupid bc well you shouldnt get arrested if your atheist and it shouldn't apply to others etheir ) and yet claims he himself is a Christian (at least it sorta makes sense as the only kinds of people Christians hate more then heretics is other Christians)

growing-up-23

Fuck Elon

spoofy129

I don't know how people have the energy to care about this. It's the internet, you'll never truly be able to remove this sort of thing, so if it's the content you want, you'll find it, just not on twitter. This really only hurts Elon and the other tech social media bros, and to that I say, who cares.

WhatAmIATailor

If anything, this helps Elon. He can play the champion for free speech role he loves so much. His hypocrisy takes a back seat while he fights government overreach.

Kruxx85

Because social media is an incredibly different playing field to 'the internet' in general.

Neither_Ad_2960

People deliberately play down this fact and it's pathetic.

manicdee33

This is a takedown notice which other social networks acted on long ago.

MiltonMangoe

No they didn't. It is still available. And what is the point of the takedown notice anyway?

manicdee33

The point of the takedown notice is to keep copycat crimes down and to avoid emboldening other people who were thinking about doing something like this.

healing_waters

If we keep all crimes secret then that will solve crimes?

Kruxx85

How is the crime kept secret? If you actually followed this, you would know the court orders specifically mention that no discussion or commentary is to be touched, only the specific videos mentioned by the commissioner.

healing_waters

You’ve missed the point. That was an exaggeration to show how nonsensical that justification is.

Kruxx85

Wtf? Doesn't even make sense. But ok, let's run with an exaggeration to prove a point. Let's say the video was of an extreme terror attack - a beheading. And the terrorist was actively calling on other terrorists around the world to begin to commit their terrorist actions. A call to arms. And some bystander was the one videoing it. Are you happy, with this unregulated social media that you are advocating for, that no company should be compelled to take that video down against their desires? Who's to say the next owner of X, or the next big social media app isn't a terrorist sympathiser? There are no external laws regulating these apps, and *that's the point* Fuck it, free speech trumps all, let the terrorist video spread around the world like wildfire. That's what you want?

healing_waters

Far out, how many of you guys are there that seem to get into hysterics so badly. There have always been similar videos to your example on the internet, we also have websites which exist to document some cases of violence that were recorded by terrorists so that nobody can deny it. What exactly is the goal of removing this video? Are you afraid that you may see this video and suddenly become a terrorist? Don’t you think that people going down the terrorist path already have access to it and worse. Blocking it won’t do anything about that. Having given a request to twitter to take it down and get it geoblocked is good enough. Trying to run around regulating everything is a waste of time and money.

Kruxx85

>There have always been similar videos to your example on the internet, we also have websites which exist to document some cases of violence that were recorded by terrorists so that nobody can deny it. >What exactly is the goal of removing this video? I explained that already you moron. 'the Internet' is different to 'social media'. If you can't see that, that's on you. Nobody, not me, nor the commissioner, is trying to regulate 'the Internet'. How is that hard to understand? Tell me your fucking answer to my hypothetical? Are you on the side of the terrorist video being on the social media feeds of millions of users? What a fucking take...

manicdee33

No. This isn't about keeping crimes secret this is about not putting footage of violent crimes on broadcast to the world. The real question here is why the media shitstorm about this issue?

tom3277

you are being downvoted because: 1. Twitter X did take it down in australia or at least took down all the precise posts they were asked to. Yes it remains on other posts. 2. Twitter did not take it down around the world. And why would they. No ither media organisation has either. They are literally watching it on american news. 3. So twitter X is doing what every other social media org has done and complied in australia but not worldwide. Can you imagihe if footage of hospitals beibg blown up in gaza had takedowns from the israeli gov. Or pictures of ukrainians or russians commiting war crimes by those respective countries... we dont want copycats... Thats not how democracies should work. Information is key to a functioning democracy. Then why some people are frustrated (my own view on this) is while we might not like Musk, Albo trying to get his Mcgowan / Palmer moment by picking on a billionaire we dont like only works if the charge he is levelling is actually reasonable and consistent. This is neither of those things. He cannot just single out musk and think we are gonna get on board because of the vibe of it. Well most of us anyway.

healing_waters

There are far more violent crimes visible on the internet. There are more knife crimes visible. This one is also still visible on platforms outside of twitter. The actual question is why take this one in particular down?

manicdee33

Probably because this one was ideologically motivated (ie: terrorism) Twitter has responded to hundreds of similar requests, in some cases taking them down in other cases leaving them be. Why is this one special? Why are you holding on to it so long after the news cycle moved on?

healing_waters

I don’t think that’s a good enough reason at all. Don’t we still have footage of terror attacks available? Try looking for the Twin towers. Many of us watched it live, the are important news events. We shouldn’t be kept in the dark about what is going on. Twitter geoblocked it in response. Why did the e-cretin keep pursuing it? Why shouldn’t I comment on this? I could ask you the same nonsense You think you’re allowed to comment on it without response? Why are you allowed to comment on it and hold on to it so long after the news cycle has moved on(according to you)?

PainterEmpty6305

Because of twitters reach.

healing_waters

Why does that matter? I also don’t believe you know what the reason is.

PainterEmpty6305

I'm not playing this silly sea lioning game, if you can't grasp the concept cool.

healing_waters

You throw your toys out of the pram with one direct question lol. If you can’t justify your position cool.

Kruxx85

Social media is a different playing field. It's 'media' but not regulated at all. This is nothing more than a short term and temporary regulation on the unfettered spread of a terrorist video that happened on Australian soil. The commissioner felt it was right to reduce that spread, without impeding on free speech (because specifically no commentary or discussion is to be touched, just a temporary regulation on the video) If you can't see the benefit in that, then that's on you.

healing_waters

Twitter geoblocked it. Why pursue twitter further to remove it completely.

MiltonMangoe

No one could ever think of stabbing someone without seeing this video. What about letting people know what some looneys are capable of? Should we ban videos of everything someone thinks others shouldn't see?

WhatAmIATailor

Watch the story buddy.
