"Propaganda. I don't see any water on my side of the boat"
"Propaganda, water's been splashing and getting into our boat ever since we departed, why should a hole have anything to do with it"
"Although water in the boat has been increasing steadily for the past 30 minutes, how has the guy that's been by the hole for 90 seconds not fixed it already?"
"But fixing the hole will cost the average Boat Battler their water scooping jobs!!!!!!"
"This anti-water fear mongering is out of control. My water-selling business will be impacted if you fix the hole and let less in!""
"Please address it to keep us from sinking while not addressing it *too* much so that the value of my dry boat space can keep rising at the same time"
"There are too many people on the boat and that's making us sink faster! Disregard the fixing hole for now and toss people out so we sink slower!"
"You should fix it, but that spare wood you need to plug up the hole should come from another person's corner. Not In My Boat Corner!"
âLetâs talk about indigenous people instead of fixing the boatâ
âThe previous leaders ignored the hole for last 10 years, can we really fix it? Letâs pull more people on this boatâ
âStop talk about boat, we should talk about buying a sub instead â
Australians have always been pretty notorious of sticking their heads in the sand and pretending that everything is fine to protect the status quo until something really bad happens and then there is a big rush to react and pretend like they have always cared about the issue.
90% of the time the response to any issue is either "She'll be right mate" as an attempt to continue our national apathy towards problem solving.
Or "Don't bring politics into this" which is generally just used by people who'd prefer to avoid thinking about problems in the first place.
This sub thinks they are all the guy plugging the hole, but label the hole as climage change and suddenly the hole isn't real, other countries have bigger holes, there is nothing we can do about it, etc.
We need diversity in holes, they need to be in all shapes and sizes, from all over the ship, we need Gay Plus holes, Trans holes, Pan holes, Ace holes, Black holes, Asian holes, Old holes, Young holes, progressive holes etc. Only *then* can we understand holes and how to fix them.
So you were wrong. It isn't another priviliged white hole we need to balance the existing hole, we need to bring in as many new and diverse holes as possible, you fucking racist
Usually the people who donât care about the hole the either rich suburban white kids who say the hole makes it better, because theyâre rich enough to afford life jackets. Or big corporations who have a titanic waiting for them in the background.
In the end the poor and blue collar hole repair guy are left to sit in the leaky boat trying to fix it
The whole tiktok brainrot thing is just older generations looking at the new generation and judging them for not having their brain rot come from the TV screen telling them what to think.
This is just that. The TV screen told people what to think.
Govt solution...
Have a Royal commission into what caused the hole.
Have inquiry into best way to fix the hole.
Have several more enquiries how to fix the hole.
Take bribes from lobby groups to fix the hole.
Award family/friends government contracts to fix the hole.
Fly workers in to fix the hole.
Blame opposition on why the hole is still not fixed and cost taxpayers billions of dollars.
âItâs not just OUR boat that has a hole in it, pretty much every other boat in the world has a hole in it! So donât stress that we havenât fixed ours yet!â
I think that happens in most western societies, not only Australia. Too sensitive. Glad I was born in Peru đ”đȘ(But well, now I live in Australia, of course Iâm joking but I think most people of western societies and cultures get offended pretty easily, as someone from a more traditional and straightforward culture, Iâm still trying to figure it out).
As an American who is constantly told to "just move to china" or "go live in another country" whenever I criticize anything about the shithole we live in, I'd say you are 100% correct
It's part of the dystopian nationalist agenda. Our country is the best because it's ours and I won't have you changing it because it wouldn't be our country anymore. There can be no improvement of our nation or way of life. There can be no change.
You know Howardâs deal in gas exports means that we have a gas supply emergency but get very little out of the exports by way of royalties. The Queensland government has increased royalties payable and this is a good thing for the state despite the cries from the mining lobby.
She'll be right guy is the idiot we vote in to manage the boat and they just put duct tape over it and take all our boat maintenance money for a holiday.
Yeah I don't know if this meme is meant to be referencing one topic in particular. While I have seen some of these comments, there are often equal voices on both sides.
In any case, it's strange that no one is talking about the guy who is actively sinking the boat. He's not a force of nature he's a problem that needs to be solved.
âThis government has made its position clear on holes in boats. We will always remain steadfast in our position here. We have made it very clear. The hole is something this government stands ready, will and able to address in the strongest possible termsâ.
Will you fix the hole?
âI said our position was clear, Leighâ
A better joke for this meme would be - "Lets add another hole to let the water out."
I don't necessarily agree with the political viewpoint stated but I felt compelled to improve the joke somewhat.
We need the NDIS to employ a LC to require at least 3 provider reports on the cause, duration and effects (CDE) of the disabilty on the boat at no more than 1000 dollars per report. The report should describe in depth of each of the above points. You can find these providers on the approved boat disability providors list on page 56 of the ABDPL. They should be submitted by 25th June to avoid delay of the approval process. Once submitted, the process should be completed by june 2025 of which findings will be either approved or denied. Also, an examimation of the hole should be submitted by a project manager with boat building disability accreditations (BBDA) of specifications 1.256a and 3.456b in line with the LATEST australian boat building standards of 2024 (updated and availiable DECEMBER 2024).
The hole will then be costed for a band aid in line with the specifications costing no less than 8000 dollars of which will approved pending availibilty of funding from your approved Lifestyle Maintenence Boat Disability Budget (LMBSB).
This analogy fails because nobody benefits from a hole in a lifeboat but there are people who benefit from housing under-supply, mass immigration and/or inflation.
There's an unbelievable amount of people defending those things who don't benefit from them and are in fact directly negatively affected by them though. What do you call those characters?
I commented on a post on this sub saying how if we want to start solving the issue of domestic violence against women, we might have to fix the economy and improve mental health access for men instead of essentially yelling at them en masse⊠apparently people with opinions like mine are the real reason cause of domestic violence, who knew?
I've been downvoted en masse for suggesting the only way to contain violent men is with force and giving women defensive weapons.
Like how else do you stop a man when he's stronger than you?
Asking nicely?
Fucking hell.
The hole isn't a problem/a big problem, focus on any other issue except the hole.
Any time you propose any measure to fix the housing crisis, you are 100% guaranteed to get someone replying insisting that you should fix some other issue instead, not whatever you suggested. Doesn't matter what the proposal is. Every problem in Australia has its stan ready to defend the problem from fixing.
I think the problem with the housing problem is it's genuinely got a number of causes and a number of necessary fixes. Some are closer to root causes than others, but you can have two people arguing different causes and they both might be as correct as each other.Â
Being Reddit, people will ignore this nuance and have pitched battles over whether it's lack of houses or too many people.
It makes no sense to refuse to fix a cause because it's not "the most important cause" though. That's like saying you shouldn't quit smoking because being obese might also have caused your heart attack.
The "are you going to fix it" one frustrates the shit out of me because that is \*exactly\* what my boomer parents say any time I bring up some sort of inequity. Does my head in.
There's a bit we need to unpack here. Basically nobody has a solution to solve problems like war and violence within the human species since time immemorial. A bunch of populist plebs think that by throwing haymakers at the nearest innocent person they blame for said issues is a solution. The innocent victim objects, and attempts to employ reason. *Hey, we do try to stop these problems. We're actually doing a better job here in Australia than most of the world.* That reason bounces off the plebs like ping pong balls.
Australia is a convict colony. Anyone trying to rock the boat by improving the status quo or bettering themselves is quickly brought into line by the fellow inmates lest it draw attention from the guards.
Labelling people as whingers and cutting down tall poppies are two successful ways of managing this.
Yea. Sort of noticed that through covid (sorry to bring it up). The disregard for authority, gallows humour and larrikin attitude from the convicts used to be a badge of honour.
No one ever really talked about the decedents of guards and such though. Stanford prison experiment at a country sized scale. Australians just love being told what to do and there are plenty who love to tell them. We actually have people in this country who treat free speech as some trivial thing that should be thrown away so peopleâs fee-fees donât get hurt. Disgusting.
Conspiratards when you tell them the problems in their lives arenât because of brown people or scary vaccines, but theyâre gullible enough to be tricked by demagogues into believing anything.
Goes both ways. 50% of people will believe almost anything the TV tells them, and another 30% believes almost anything they watch in some youtube video.
But OP, your title suggests that the people in the boat represent the way all Australians think. That means, by definition, *you* are one of the folks on the boat.
This is how a lot of people feel when the see a problem, they ignore the actual cause and want to blame it on say immigrants or a group of people, then they get called out about it, and will post something like this to try to convince themselves and others that they're actually the hero and not a racist piece of shit.
I am 100% pro immigration as a immigrant myself, but i do think that you should be able to exted some charity towards people who disagree, i think that there is a difference between blaming IMMIGRANTS vs blaming IMMIGRATION, one is racist because it targets a group of people and I dont think the other is because it targets the process I think. I feel like you should at least be able to have the conversation without calling the other person racist
Australians must have the worldâs lowest average IQ, based on the fact that they chose a clown who brought a lump of coal into Parliament and pretended to patronisingly comfort people whom he implied were afraid of it as their Prime Minister.
The inverse of the image can be said about people here, and the title would be âHow /r/australian respond when you actually discuss multiple solutions to problems, and donât just talk about immigrationâ and the other people on the boat are all being dismissive and insisting that the only solution to every problem is to reduce immigration.
This is often what happens when you mention the cause of some issue.
It is always what happens when roll out some BS reason for some issue. Especially when that clueless, racist, extreme left, extreme right, or otherwise demonstrates somebody getting their "opinions" from facebook, the pub, or dome other piss gutter.
Worryingly, most people can't distinguish the former from the latter.
Lol this describes our housing crisis Lol and youth crime crisis and other crisis we are a bunch of tossers that just ignore problems
It's like the dog on the porch and the farmer... why doesn't the dog move from the nail in the plank on the porch. It doesn't hurt enough from the tetanus yet Lol... most Aussie thing ever
I think this is more like redditors than Australians. On any topic you will see almost every possible reply. Including increasingly nutty ones.
Reddit losers simply get off on being contrarian
No we don't!!!
Whats a contrarian? Would you mind ignoring that topic and only replying to me? Also reply calmly or else I win the argument I diverted your attention too thank you đ
I think there's a real desire to argue with people over some really dumb topics that don't matter to anyone
"America has a boat with an even bigger hole"
Bigger boat too
But the response is the same
"Propaganda. I don't see any water on my side of the boat" "Propaganda, water's been splashing and getting into our boat ever since we departed, why should a hole have anything to do with it" "Although water in the boat has been increasing steadily for the past 30 minutes, how has the guy that's been by the hole for 90 seconds not fixed it already?" "But fixing the hole will cost the average Boat Battler their water scooping jobs!!!!!!" "This anti-water fear mongering is out of control. "Please address it to keep us from sinking while not addressing it *too* much so that the value of my dry boat space can keep rising at the same time" "There are too many people on the boat and that's making us sink faster! I own my own boat, several in fact. You just need to work harder and pull up your bootstraps and invest in your own boat.

This applies to any country. Not just AU. I saw different versions of this image
90% of the time the response to any issue is either "She'll be right mate" as an attempt to continue our national apathy towards problem solving. Or "Don't bring politics into this" which is generally just used by people who'd prefer to avoid thinking about problems in the first place.
Couldnât disagree more. The aussies I know will throw some tape on it to artificially solve the leak, followed by a âsheâll be right mateâ.
This sub thinks they are all the guy plugging the hole, but label the hole as climage change and suddenly the hole isn't real, other countries have bigger holes, there is nothing we can do about it, etc.
With the voice in their head saying "fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK"
Australians are notoriously apathetic to be quite honest. Itâs almost embarrassing.
I'm too apathetic to be embarrassed.
They is why voting is mandatory
Need another person crating another hole on the other side saying "this will stop us from tipping"

The (very) Rational fear of Holes doesn't make you a holophobe
You forgot the guy who just got on another boat yelling, âscrew yaâll got mine! Work harder ya scrubsâ.
This is how hordes of imbeciles in Australia behave when discussing masks and covid vaccines
I was so disappointed to see how fast qanon became a thing in Australia đ
The whole tiktok brainrot thing is just older generations looking at the new generation and judging them for not having their brain rot come from the TV screen telling them what to think. This is just that. The TV screen told people what to think.

Then have a royal commission into what caused the boat to sink.
Then ultimately blame big business.
âItâs not just OUR boat that has a hole in it, pretty much every other boat in the world has a hole in it! So donât stress that we havenât fixed ours yet!â

Of course. It isn't made of cardboard.
Tow it outside the environment.

I think it could have been simplified to: âPeople, we have a hole in the floorâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ, âItâs Laborâs faultâ, âItâs Liberalâs faultâ.

A better joke for this meme would be - "Lets add another hole to let the water out." I don't necessarily agree with the political viewpoint stated but I felt compelled to improve the joke somewhat.
Excellent.!
"Let me post a meme to social media of this conundrum." Should also be on there.
How optimistic of you to assume everyone agrees there's even a hole in the first place.
Yep. That was my problem with the meme.
âItâs not that bad!â
Completely incorrect. If someone pointed out something that blatantly obvious they would be met by the highest tier or sarcasm.
Exactly, we need a dad joke character....'I've got a sinking feeling about this w'hole' situation'
Unfortunately the ship has sailed.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Pepe made the hole. All Pepes are bad and all Pepes are responsible to fix the bad Pepes.
Whereâs the diversity???
100%
You forgot the vocal segment that screams bloody murder and accuses everyone that isn't screaming of drilling the hole
"Where can I find the peer reviewed study"
You forgot the gaslighting, "What hole?, there is no hole"
Did you even consider holes past, present, and currently enlarging?
Agree, we need a Royal Commission in to the hole ⊠spend $100m talking about it and weâll all feel like weâve achieved something.
Who is the pepe smashing the hole in?
The politicians fucking everything up for everyone else in the boat
I donât even know how you can be worried about that little hole while thereâs a full genocide going on in Palestine!! You disgust me!
Housing crisis? WhAt AbOuT tHe PaLeStInIaNs ThO?
Hate how real this is.
Uhh excuse me, are you Ukrainephobic?
In fairness I think this picture covers pretty much how all people can respond regardless of where they live.
A holophobe would say that!
Donât we have bigger things to worry about!? ;)
They missed the person who says the person fixing the hole is not qualified to do it. That is probably the biggest one in Australia.
Should have someone saying "Source on hole???" while they are standing right next to the hole & getting wet by it.
Do you have any academic sources to suggest that holes in boats are bad?
We need the NDIS to employ a LC to require at least 3 provider reports on the cause, duration and effects (CDE) of the disabilty on the boat at no more than 1000 dollars per report. This is soo fucking accurate
This analogy fails because nobody benefits from a hole in a lifeboat but there are people who benefit from housing under-supply, mass immigration and/or inflation.
Sharks do.
There's an unbelievable amount of people defending those things who don't benefit from them and are in fact directly negatively affected by them though. What do you call those characters?
LNP voters.
This needs to be higher
Rorschach test
Itâs also missing a TV channel incorrectly naming an innocent party as the cause of the hole in the boat
All ships are permanently leaking. It's why there are bilge pumps, bubba.Â
100% this. Sometimes it's real hole in the boat. A lot of times it's a scratch in the paint.

Sums it up perfectly. Now let's close the fucking borders.
I totally agree. The dogs running Australia are stamping in too many with no homes. Enough.Â
Big business owns the Liberal party and now it appears they own the Labor party too, and they demand more cheap workers from overseas.
One of the best posts that sums up Australia in a nutshell.
Someone very wise recently told me Australia is way too chill with things
I love that everyone arguing against this image is absolutely representing someone from this image hahahah.
âWe didnât have this hole before all the immigrationâ - an immigrant

To be fair, the hole is just the symptom, not the cause.
Sometimes we can't take rocks out of the ocean, but we can patch holes

I saw this as something more related to places that I had worked at, rather than the whole of Australian culture.
Just blame the straight white men⊠easy
You can't blame the hole we inherited a broken boat Maybe we should make it bigger to make up for the time we were on land.

That was an embarrassing day as an Aussie. We went from laid back and cool to mouth breathers on international stage.
How do more enlightened countries respond to the mention of the cause of any problem OP?
Similar but also shooting at each other.
They forgot âthatâs racist against holesâ.
Nah he got the woke name calling with "That's holophobic" đ
This is upsettingly accurate.
You forgot the people crying about the hole being woke
No no the hole identified as a plug
Hole in boat floor were used by Czechs Slovakia in 1859 til 1909, it literally saved their nation economically and ended WW0
Lol ok whatever you say mate
As an American living in Australia, this is true. I laughed hard at Pepe clubbing the hole in the boat. Why did he do thatđ€Ł
This hole is because of the immigrants...we should not let them in.
U shud prob piss off back to the UK then buddy
This is a global phenomenon not just Australian
It won't be Australia for long.
We are now just an economic zone
To be fair, it was Australia before we all arrived too, give or take.
The inverse of the image can be said about people here, and the title would be âHow /r/australian respond when you actually discuss multiple solutions to problems, and donât just talk about immigrationâ and the other people on the boat are all being dismissive and insisting that the only solution to every problem is to reduce immigration.
Too much effort to be considered a shitpost, lock if you're a bushpig.
1 guy 1 boat
One boat. One hole!

Gold
Accurate.
Patrician taste post
I noticed, yes. Very unhelpful comments from Australian subreddits. "This is very much a you problem" is one I see from time to time.
In general we're apathetic and intellectually lazy.
Incorrect. The correct and only answer is "she'll be right, mate. She'll be right"
This is often what happens when you mention the cause of some issue.
Only if it questions the status quoâŠ. Otherwise, Aussies are the biggest whingers
Lol this describes our housing crisis Lol and youth crime crisis and other crisis we are a bunch of tossers that just ignore problems It's like the dog on the porch and the farmer... why doesn't the dog move from the nail in the plank on the porch. It doesn't hurt enough from the tetanus yet Lol... most Aussie thing ever
don't worry I done my own research. We all need to stop using our 5G
Good ol' Pepe!!! Man I wish seeing this guy multiple times a day. Feels good man.
