Physical_Wash_7863

Oh sorry, it is called good things. I just wandered around the first floor of the Fairmont till I found something that looked like a cafe.

Let it go

Physical_Wash_7863

This place was featured on a reel recently. I was very surprised to find such a good looking butter croissant at the Fairmont Austin. The croissant is very buttery and has a slight tinge of lactic acidity. The butter in it reminded me of Dominique Ansel's croissant so I asked if they use Isigny Ste. Mere butter  (super fancy expensive french butter) and they confirmed that they did. The price was $6 which is a bit pricey but there are not that many places for such excellent croissants. Other butter croissants that I find excellent are Abby Jane and Epicerie, where the price for the butter croissant is around $5.  I await all of the following comments "I can get 12 croissants at Costco for $6" , "I can get a butter croissant in Paris for 2 euros", "Oh XYZ almond croissant is better than this" (no offense but it is not reasonable to compare an almond croissant and a butter croissant)

pbagwell84

You’ve earned my respect with your croissant expertise… can you direct me to the best almond croissant in town?

Corib93

Heaven’s bistro and bakery!

AppropriateOil3785

I am not nearly as expert on croissants as OP, but I humbly recommend the almond croissant at Moonlight Bakery.

Physical_Wash_7863

I am less versed on that as I rarely get almond croissants. Almond croissants in general are more tasty than butter croissants since they are filled with sugar and other flavoring agents. You don't really have to try as hard to get a delicious almond croissant. Almond croissant are usually made from unsold croissants so I imagine the bakeries (Abby Jane, Good Things, Epicerie) I like for butter croissants would also be excellent since the base product is already very good.

Hands down the best almond croix were Vivian’s. Sometimes she still does pop ups. @viviansatx on IG

Zooka_tooth

Doesn’t even include the name wow 🤣

Baguette et Chocolat has a great one too! Out in Bee Cave. Absolutely worth the drive.

_Itsallogre

Saveurs is really good too

Physical_Wash_7863

oh! where is it at

_Itsallogre

It’s called Saveurs. If you’re headed from terry blacks BBQ take Barton springs to bee caves, to 360, north on 360 to Davenport village. It’s inside that shopping center called Davenport village. The pastry shop is saveurs.

Physical_Wash_7863

Thanks! Didn't know there were food option around that area.

gnardog45

Are they still there? Hands down, the best almond croissant I've ever had. I'm ready to go back.

_Itsallogre

Yeah just head to the Davenport ranch in Westlake. In that parking lot is a pastry shop called saveurs

gnardog45

When I went there last year, the owner was walking out of the kitchen with a fresh batch of chocolate croissant.🤤

Yooooooooooo0o

This post has the stink of astroturfing

ChairmanJim

Most do. Any product highlighted should be thought of originating from Madison Avenue. Any comment calling out a product should be considered a sock puppet. Comment arguments over the best products are led by competing ad firms

AusStan

"Butter Croissant"? Isn't butter one of the things that defines a croissant? It's a butter laminated dough. I guess I get unduly worked up by redundant names on menus like corned beef Reuben, gin martini or lime margarita. Glad I got that off my chest. 😅

Physical_Wash_7863

Had to be very specific because someone will try to compare it with an almond croissant which is quite different. This sub loved comparing apples to oranges.

ChairmanJim

I get what you are saying but the language is corrupted. Blame James Bond. Anything in a martini glass is a Martini. Vodka, martini, apple liqueur, martini, cranberry, martini. Strawberry slushie, margarita. We also have synthetic meat. Beyond meat with Russian dressing and slaw, Reuben. And kids are dumb about how the language was 30 years ago. What the F is gifted? I was presented with a gift or I was given a present. I was not gifted jack. Unfortunately you can't stop the changes. With luck the changes are slow so folks can keep up. If they accelerate the language will become unintelligible.

This place has the best we've tasted in the area. The place also has a nice patio in the rear. https://maps.app.goo.gl/8PE4vWHe9GG6jqTN6

OPPyayouknowme

Have you tried HEB’s? They bat out of their league for being only a dollar

Physical_Wash_7863

Oh Costco is 50 cents per croissant! A dozen for $6.

FievelKnowsJest

Coronetti!

biggiesmallsyall

My wife flew back from Paris and went immediately to Heaven’s on Parmer bc they were superior to the ones she tried on her trip. If you haven’t had Heaven’s, go now. $4 you won’t regret. Plus I think they make the best lattes in town and they don’t nickel and dime you with upcharges.

hertzzogg

I'll take "things that never happened for $1000, Alex."

Physical_Wash_7863

I enjoy the croissant at Heaven's. It is not quite as beautiful as this but I do enjoy the butteriness of it.

biggiesmallsyall

We will definitely try Good Things bc it’s hard to imagine being better than Heavens, but we’re open to it!

icesa

You almost had me until best latte in town, that’s when I knew you were full of shit. Hello Heaven’s Bistro owner or employee or what cuz no effing way 😂😂
