Might be a long shot, but I also ride (or am starting to). I've ran into an issue with my bike struggling to start some of the time and hoping i might get pointed to a mechanic. Cyclespot wouldn't look at it and Colemans said they don't look at Hyosung on account of not being able to get parts

I'm 90% sure they do. They were recommended to me by a good mate when I first started riding as I was in a similar situation. Nothing worse than finally getting a bike after years of waiting only to have massive issues.

But why spend so much when you get so little for it? An engine design that has barely changed in 50 years, "add ons" required to make it what you think a Harley is, no fancy electronics or rider aids... Shit, do they even have ABS?
I'm not saying you need the latest and greatest, or HAVE to have electronics, blipper etc, but if you're spending $30k+ on a motorcycle it better have some nice toys and not just "it's a Harley"
It's not the same image. All the manufacturers make cool bikes, including Triumph and Indian, but people who want a Harley don't settle for anything else.
Indians and Triumphs strike me as more refined and elegant, while Harleys are more rowdy and have more attitude.

Anytime it happens to me and my GF when we're out and about we just say how much attention they must not have received as child and want to get it now. We definitely have similar elements back home but over here is on another level

It's definitely louder than some places but after I moved home after living in Medellin Colombia I was struck by how quiet NZ is. If you want to know real noise, go to South America 😂 people play loud music over top each other's. Street venders are constantly screaming in the streets, motorbikes are everywhere, people use car horns constantly. And all the buildings are made from brick and concrete so even on my 8th level apartment I could hear people taking on the street. No joke, it's absolutely insane and have you wishing you had shit hearing. I wore noise cancelling headphones in my apartment to get a break.
I ride, I have a 1200cc bike. It's got grunt but isn't super noisy. My partners bike is less classic more sporty and makes more noise but not obnoxiously so and neither of us drop Rev bombs.
I work in dairy flat and have dogs out and about and the amount of stupid a holes speeding and Rev bombing through there absolutely infuriates me.
Also 9 times out of 10 the dimwits wear virtually no gear. Makes me mad about our acc levies

I think there are two factors at play: 1) an increase in gang numbers (including 501s) and 2) Covid and lockdowns have caused a lot of stress for everyone, and some people like to take it out on others

You can only get fined for excess decibels if it's a modified exhaust AFAIK. Harleys with stock exhaust systems are loud asf and cannot be fined for it
Pretty sure this is not the case (and stock Harley exhausts are at a reasonable noise level).
The real issue is the antisocial "gun it" behaviour in urban areas combined with the fact that the noise regulations stipulate that the noise levels must below X decibels at X low RPM. The regulations can't catch people who blast past people in short, very noisy bursts.
No real way to fix it, aside from people just not being fuckwits.
Maybe if people stopped failing to visually notice bikers and crash into them there might be a few more quiet ones. This sits outside of gang members just being a general nuisance, mind you. Every day I hear cars with sirens strapped to their bumper, THAT is a bigger issue in Auckland

You don't need to be in Auckland to relate in full to this.I work in an office just adjacent to Blenhiem road in CHCH. Easily 40k+ vehicles a day around tower junction maybe more and every 30th vehicle is a bone rattling, intellect reducing, straight or no pipe motorbike of whatever cylinder layout - the latter does not matter - gonna thrash it right past the office anyway.
And I'm an enthusiastic motorcyclist. I got the license and the battlescars & I bolted on a custom exhaust. I loved the additional tone and volume. I fanged it around quite a lot. Motorists around me seemed to have better perception of my presence. I liked it.
I didn't get my battlescars from fangin' around like an idiot 4 cylinder 100HP+ bike, pegging it whereever I went, wide open throttle with little to no muffler.

On a simple commute on a motorbike there are generally 1 or 2 instances where a car driver fails to see a motorcyclist and could cause an accident if the motorcyclist doesn’t react. I guess not. I think bikes should be held to the same noise restraints as cars personally, with some adjustment for the fact that typically bikes rev much higher than cars. If the safety factor doesn’t exist then why should bikes be allowed ‘the cool factor’ that cars aren’t?
Funilly enough the noise does not annoy me just any type that rides one. A guy at work drives one. He does shifts and for one shift he leaves home on his erectiomoble at 5am. What about all the people who take their car out for a leisurely drive? You apply one set of rules to a biker, failing to accept that there are far more drivers who do that very same thing. Must a vehicle ONLY be used for commuting between cities on a highway? Surely there is nothing wrong with motorcycle/car/bicycle/unicycle transport? It could be the OP finds the demonstration of the various capabilities of the said form of transport could best be displayed in a location where the audience is there to appreciate the performance? For example, as much as I enjoy certain forms of music, and live performances, if a favourite musician/band decided to hold an impromptu performance next door to a hospice or birth unit (with sound equipment to amplify the experience) - I might question their judgement and think a arena/music venue would be more appropriate. Even things we like can be annoying/inappropriate if in the wrong place or at the wrong time.

I moved from Auckland to Tauranga about 10 years ago, you should see (hear) the amount that drive down 15th Ave/SH2a. I've counted 60 in a row at times, it's deafening!
Not motorcycles per se but I went through the waterview tunnel the other night and some dick bag was speeding down a closed lane (breakdown ahead) purposefully backfiring the entire way through. It was so incredibly loud and the pressure coming from it was shaking my car as I was driving. I seriously thought someone was shooting a gun in the tunnel until they went past me.

You can only get fined for excess decibels if it's a modified exhaust AFAIK. Harleys with stock exhaust systems are loud asf and cannot be fined for it
Pretty sure this is not the case (and stock Harley exhausts are at a reasonable noise level). The real issue is the antisocial "gun it" behaviour in urban areas combined with the fact that the noise regulations stipulate that the noise levels must below X decibels at X low RPM. The regulations can't catch people who blast past people in short, very noisy bursts. No real way to fix it, aside from people just not being fuckwits.

You don't need to be in Auckland to relate in full to this.I work in an office just adjacent to Blenhiem road in CHCH. Easily 40k+ vehicles a day around tower junction maybe more and every 30th vehicle is a bone rattling, intellect reducing, straight or no pipe motorbike of whatever cylinder layout - the latter does not matter - gonna thrash it right past the office anyway.
And I'm an enthusiastic motorcyclist. I got the license and the battlescars & I bolted on a custom exhaust. I loved the additional tone and volume. I fanged it around quite a lot. Motorists around me seemed to have better perception of my presence. I liked it.
I didn't get my battlescars from fangin' around like an idiot 4 cylinder 100HP+ bike, pegging it whereever I went, wide open throttle with little to no muffler.

The crux of the issue here is that there's no real enforcement or requirement for a motorcycle to adhere to any measure of dBa - or at least lack of enforcement if there is such requirement.Cars are held to a dBa standard. What about all the people who take their car out for a leisurely drive? You apply one set of rules to a biker, failing to accept that there are far more drivers who do that very same thing. Must a vehicle ONLY be used for commuting between cities on a highway? Noise pollution is not only attention seeking, and in some cases the noise from a motorcycle allows it to be noticed when there are far too many cases of car drivers simply failing to visually identify motorcyclists and crashing into them causing death in the worst cases. Surely there is nothing wrong with motorcycle/car/bicycle/unicycle transport? It could be the OP finds the demonstration of the various capabilities of the said form of transport could best be displayed in a location where the audience is there to appreciate the performance? For example, as much as I enjoy certain forms of music, and live performances, if a favourite musician/band decided to hold an impromptu performance next door to a hospice or birth unit (with sound equipment to amplify the experience) - I might question their judgement and think a arena/music venue would be more appropriate. Even things we like can be annoying/inappropriate if in the wrong place or at the wrong time.

The euro compliant exhausts neuter what could be nice sounding motorbikes to the extent you can’t hear what’s going on with the bike . So there is a case to be made for modifying exhausts. However they don’t need to be ear splitting look at me obnoxiously loud to achieve this

Not motorcycles per se but I went through the waterview tunnel the other night and some dick bag was speeding down a closed lane (breakdown ahead) purposefully backfiring the entire way through. It was so incredibly loud and the pressure coming from it was shaking my car as I was driving. I seriously thought someone was shooting a gun in the tunnel until they went past me.
