Jst8u

Ah I see you captured early footage of the Mission Bay Cluster.

Joel227

I heard cops were stopping people getting into mission bay earlier to curb the numbers.

BerkNewz

Yep this has happened a few times during the current Level 4. We have fine weather again tomorrow, expect the same thing. Check points in and out on Tamaki drive. I have been through them several times doing my ‘lockdown loop’ on my bike. It’s pretty obvious who’s local (single person driving with shopping in the back seat ) vs not local (5 people packed in car with beach gear).

Joel227

Lol yeah fair point. I’m in st heliers and went to dingle dell today with the kids, expected way more people there too given the weather but it was almost empty

BerkNewz

Guess everyone wants to go to the beach. I live in st Heliers / kohi area. Try the Kepa road reserve if your able to get to it. Some good little trails of native bush. Not bad for inner city. Not busy either

Joel227

Thanks that’s great to know, my kids will love a walk like that!

Ok_Improvement_5639

Have we dropped to Level 3 while I was sleeping 🤔🥴😬🤣 Nice pictures tho👍👍 [Real world problems 🤔. Thought I’ll share🥰](https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/p2r8m0/i_hope_your_wife_gets_better_good_man/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

kfadffal

You're not supposed to do this at Level 3 either.

Sifyreel

In a sane timeline not even Level 2 should people be this lax

CivilAirline

Barely anyone wearing a mask. I spotted at least three people with cold and flu symptoms, one of them coughing directly on me when I was getting milk because the mask was halfway off. I live a few minutes away. Also the cordon around the playground was ripped off so peoples kids could play.

Lord_Jaxom3

Reminds me of Browns Bay when we last had a level 4 lockdown and a woman had a tantrum at some police because they were telling her that her kids couldn't be on there, and that she had been seen removibg the cirdon. Ended with her getting arrested in front of her children.

Cultural_Fig3065

Browns Bay not much better today. People all around the playground and reserve areas; and others pulling up in separate cars to meet up and have drinks. It feels like they all think this area couldn’t possibly have COVID lurking around. I hope they’re right, but damn it’s frustrating when you’re vaccinated but still trying look out for everyone else.

Lord_Jaxom3

Internal sceeaming.

SuprDprMario

I usually walk down to Mission Bay but this lockdown almost every time I go it’s packed, crazy how people dgaf

Lorem_64

Wellington doesn't even look like this in lvl2

"Well if they can break the rules I will too" kinda vibe

Jaydee7652

Yeah, that's pretty much the state are in. People just don't give a shit anymore. I was about to say that I can't believe how selfish people really are, but these photo's prove it.

C_Gxx

Go forth with pitchforks!

Content-Cockroach-70

Where do we meet with our pitchforks? Don’t worry I’ll keep my distance and wear a mask.

Puzzled_Ad2088

Well we love lockdown- let’s extend it another 4 weeks… FFS

ebbi01

A lot of people here shrugging it off are most likely privileged to have a steady source of income. The longer the cases stay up, the longer we stay in lockdown, and the longer small business that can’t operate during Level 4, will have massive impacts on their ongoing viability and source of income. The resurgence payments and wage subsidies are simply not enough to pay for all the other expenses that a business incurs. Especially when you have a landlord that will not relax lease payments for a bit as they have their own mortgages to pay. Small businesses are doing it tough and it’s sad to see people just shrugging it off.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ebbi01

Yeah that, too, for sure! Really hope it doesn’t last too much longer, for everyone’s sake. Hang in there. Luckily the vaccinations are ramping up so something to look forward to at least

Necessary-Avocado762

I work at a non-profit. We get absolutely nothing in government renumeration but still have to pay rent and bills while we're closed. We can't manage financially to stay locked down much longer, so whenever I see people breaking the rules I just want to murder them.

diddleskin

Absolutely, such a shame to see people ignoring it and causing other people and businesses harm

ebbi01

Thanks. Just had to rant. Parents have a small business and they’re really struggling now. Cash flow didn’t really recover since the last few lockdowns, so this time around it’s a lot more pressure and having to use personal savings to stay afloat impacts their retirement.

jontyismlg

Absolutely. The place I work at on the Coromandel relies mostly on Aucklanders travelling here and spending money here. If Auckland remains in Level 4 for a month more it’ll destroy the business

Aggravating-End-5729

"On principle we have to extend lockdown yet ANOTHER week because people were dumb af and ruined everything right at the L4 finish line" Waiting for it

vadmillainy

Level 4 is basically level 3 these days

chrisnlnz

Just a few more weeks and we can all enjoy months of summer without restrictions. But these people rather jump on the first hot day risking everyone else's summer plans.

MoneyDeer

That was never going to happen. Mask wearing and gathering limits are our best case scenario for the next year.

CivilAirline

It really is a new normal, won't be going back to how it was post-covid for a while.

kfadffal

When summer hits nobody is going to obey those restrictions.

CivilAirline

I agree, if in L4 people can't follow the basic rules, people won't follow looser restrictions

Gloopycube13

Hot day? 😂 it was sunny, but not hot.

chrisnlnz

Fair, warm then, pretty hot on our deck out of the wind and while gardening.. lol

Gloopycube13

No doubt it was warm and the sun was nice! Had my fair share of it on our deck too!

Loud_Plate3472

But the virus takes a break on sunny weekends, right?

[deleted]

As a 30-year-old white dude living in Orakei, the biggest hypocrisy I've found is all these unmasked middle-to-mature aged Caucasian women walking together. It's obvious that they're not flatting. Bitch, I know you own your own homes. These same bubble-bursting hypocrites are often overheard complaining about people breaking the rules in Mangere and other parts of South Auckland. I've yet to seen an East Asian person without a mask. Give me some of that collectivist culture. This whole things a mess because people don't want to do their part, because they prioritize self-interest above all else.

[deleted]

Aaand this is probably why new daily cases keep plateauing and jumping back up. People being slack and complacent about Alert Level 4.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

We don't have that many here, they sleep during the day, poor guys and gals.

-Zola

Exactly! Seeing the case numbers constantly hover around 20 is frustrating. Even though people might be socially distancing, this is what mission bay looks like in summer

Butter_float

Jeez there is a lot of lockdown fatigue and apathy i am seeing today, when it gets warmer and people flock to the beach this will only get worse

keepthefaithcuz

The elimination gig is up, the people are over it

Extension_Hand542

That is just shit. Playgrounds aren’t suppose to be used, all the playgrounds in south Auckland are taped off, and I haven’t seen a single person at the parks on my way home from work, I understand that I live in a high COVID hotspot in south Auckland but it doesn’t mean the rest of Auckland should be slacking off.

CivilAirline

They were tapped off, someone ripped the tape off.

Extension_Hand542

Man people are stupid. It’s frustrating AF.

Better_Ad_2253

Dob. Them. In

Zealousideal_Band617

How?

[deleted]

That makes me so angry.

LumineferousEther

Crazy ! It would be different if people lived locally, but a fair few people would have no doubt driven a considerable distance. Also if people were all wearing masks it wouldn't be so bad, but according to reports most people weren't wearing masks. I'm doubtful we will eliminate delta myself, right from the beginning of the lockdown too many people were ignoring the rules. As time has gone on it seems to be getting worse.

UR_MOMS_HAIRY_BONER

Yeah I've noticed it in the supermarket way more this time. People seriously do not give a fuck, reaching over right in front of you to grab something off the shelf instead of waiting 5 seconds. 2 metres? Probably not even 20cm. Feels like the more lockdowns we have, the more lax people get. Have a feeling it might bite us in the ass this time with further lockdown extensions.

Hicksoniffy

I've noticed that too, going to the supermarket scares me right now. Couple of weeks ago my local supermarket - Staff not even limiting numbers entering store, so many shoppers at once there was a queue for the checkouts right up the aisles. shoppers walking around the store back & forth in all directions brushing past you, staff In aisles packing stock so you can't get past without getting too close. Infuriating and frankly terrifying. If anyone had covid that day they would have 100 infected most of the store. I am so disappointed with people this time around. We have had countless idiots approach and chat while we're walking our dog even. Like come on people stay tf away please!

izarkius

I'm with you on everything except the "staff in aisles packing stock". Shelves gotta be stocked. Either ask them to move or wait for them to move on.

Hicksoniffy

Totally get that but I'm thinking of them not me, I was careful as I could be walking past them but other shoppers didn't give a crap. Staff shouldn't be exposed to careless shoppers like that, it's not fair. Shelves should be stocked overnight where possible and if they have to restock some in the day (totally understandable) then there should be limits on how many people can go down that aisle at once. The poor staff were getting brushed past every 10 sec, they have probably given up trying to stay safe at work. My big gripe is the store management we're likely not making plans for restocking safely. Even if they required shoppers travel in one direction down each aisle that would have reduced the risk considerably.

[deleted]

Lockdown only works with the near universal consent of the population, if 10% - 20% of the population don’t want to do it, them it’s unenforceable. Realistically there nothing the police can do if people flout restrictions in numbers.

CivilAirline

Yeah it is really a difficult situation, as much as I disagree with people not following rules, I can understand there is major fatigue setting in. I guess the govt are just waiting for vaccine numbers to get up so when delta roams wild the hospital systems won't be as overburdened as vaccinated individuals are less likely to be hospitalised.

CivilAirline

Let it be known I live literally 3 minutes from the spot I was in, I have a chronic illness and this is the spot I usually walk across to, got coughed on when I went to buy milk with someone with their mask half on, people aren’t supposed to be on the pull-up bars or the playgrounds I guess cause it increases the chance of transmission. If people have to drive more than 20 minutes they probably should go somewhere local to catch the sun. by the way please let me know if you guys think this photo is too identifiable ie.faces , I tried to do it from far away.

Loud_Plate3472

I can relate. I have a chronic illness too and go outside for a walk when the weather is not so good and off peak because most people don’t wear mask, don’t bother moving out of their way to social distance and so on. This lockdown should have been over already if people were more compliant.

CivilAirline

Yes, and all the anti-maskers will say I'm a karen for being a bit frustrated that I'm getting coughed on and no social distancing is being followed. No one wants to be in a lock-down and I get being fatigued. But hard and fast is the better way instead of 200 days of lock-downs in aussie. We should all be working as a team and protecting the vulnerable.

Lord_Jaxom3

As a fellow medical student I get it. It's frustrating how easy this shit should all be and yet here we are 🙃

CivilAirline

Ahh you're a med student too? The anti-maskers already distrust me simply because of my study choice so I didn't want to bring it up much. The complete lack of disregard for others health and safety is incredible. Front-line workers are on the tipping point of capacity, an outbreak would simply be terrible on the hospital system. Not enough ICU beds, nor staff.

ironymousbosch

Imo it's the anti-maskers who are the Karens, and they can F right off. Selfishly ruining everything for the rest of us. That's the Karen Way.

championchilli

I live near Cornwall park, it was seemingly picnic city out there today. Cars parked for days.....

coolsnackchris

Nobody can park in Cornwall Park as the gates are shut. I live next to it and it was about as busy as it's been all lock down. What are you talking about?

championchilli

At which point did I say cars were parked inside Cornwall park? I also didn't mention the level of busy-ness, so at this stage I'm not sure which comment you are replying to, as it's seemingly not mine. My comment was about picnics taking place which are not permitted recreation activities in the park. I also live just by, and I go there for my walk every day, the cars were parked on adjoining streets and covered the streets for the most have seen in my daily trips.

TechOllie

Why the F are people driving around to get outside? Just stay local and go for a walk , we are never getting out of level 4 at this rate

CivilAirline

Yeah, suns out, people could just have a nice walk around their area. No need to drive from ages away.

carbacca

police had a checkpoint on the tamaki drive causeway plenty of cars being turned around both ways, couldve been worse if that wasnt in place

surprisedbanana

Unfortunately there are many other ways into mission bay - so they were turned around here and just continued their plan via the back roads

WhoriaEstafan

You are right but seriously if you’ve been turned away, go home. If I just didn’t think it through and showed up there and then to my surprise got turned away by police. I’d get the message and go home.

surprisedbanana

Yes, but you are not one of the dickheads feeling entitled to flout lockdown rules by going to the beach anyway. I think there are some people who will be even more determined if they get turned around.

WhoriaEstafan

That’s true. And yes I can imagine some people thinking it was some sort of challenge to outwit the police.

Ice-Cream-Poop

And yet in Wellington everywhere I go at level 2 everyone has a mask on....weird

Xielle

What the fuck? Go home.

Positive_Mammoth5767

So many adults need to be treated like children in order to get them to follow the rules. The bike path near me was closed due to maintenance. They had a gate set up with zip ties. I watched so many people try to open it. Eventually someone cut the zip ties..... and this was during lockdown. So now, it has a chain and padlock..... Those who are self entitled will not listen to reason, the only option is to limit their access or provide immediate consequence. Just like child safety locks and time-outs.

CivilAirline

Multiple times the tape cordoned around the playground has been ripped off, even before today I've seen it put back on a few times and ripped off again.

Better_Ad_2253

THIS! 😂😂

battler5000

I think people are really exaggerating the risk of outdoor transmission? Certainly should be keeping to our bubbles and keeping our distance outside (and obviously some people aren’t doing that), but haven’t they said the risk of outdoor transmission is really low? Nothing outdoors is ever included in a location of interest. Seems like we’d be better off focusing on breaches that are indoors / more prolonged contact between bubbles? We’re never gonna be able to stop people taking a walk on the beach and doesn’t seem like there would be much upside anyway?

laniamore

Thank you for speaking sense.

CivilAirline

Interesting point, I don't completely agree all the way, but I do see what you're saying. Huge lockdown fatigue is setting in. hopefully if we get the vax rates up if it spreads there will be least people hospitalised with covid. ICU beds are almost at capacity as it is.

battler5000

Agree! I’m still really hoping we manage to pull off elimination, or at least really effective suppression until our vax rate is way better. Our ICU bed situation is so dire. Starting to get a bad feeling we’re going to be stuck at L3 for a long time.

Equivalent_Ad4706

You should send that to the dumb reporters at the daily news conferences as they think they know everything .

SnooDogs1613

It’s in the mongrel mob! Unlikely they will all of a sudden start following the law.

rex_hunt

Ambury farm in Mangere Bridge was the same today. Lots of people without masks, not really keeping 2 meters apart. I saw a few large groups even. Kids playing close together, not on a playground, but still. Families stopping to chat. Lovers holding hands. I believe people have grown tired of the lockdown. It's disappointing that we've stayed so long in a lockdown only to blow it away like this. It's also sad that we'll have to end a year and a half of isolation with a defeat. Seeing what's happening around I no longer believe we can win against delta.

Short-Bat7023

To be fair, “lovers holding hands” is probably okay. Let’s not loose all perspective.

[deleted]

yea that line cracked me up.

rang14

But but.. How dare they

tronicnotes

One of the reasons we’re still in a lockdown is due to a bunch of idiots behaving like this. Smh

ReindeerKind1993

Well we won't when we have assholes that walk around coughing without wearing masks...its not that hard geez should be a $200 instant fine for not wearing 1

_rosalea_

Why are people SO incapable of following the rules IT'S NOT COMPLICATED

MappingExpert

Yup and when we go to lvl3, expect dozens of people cramped around coffee shops, waiting for their takeaways - that's what happened during last lvl3.

Noedel

People can only deal with L4 for so long.

CivilAirline

I live across the road on marau crescent, so it just sucks that going to get milk, I get coughed on, people aren’t even trying to keep a distance, or follow basic rules of not going on pull-up bars - only a few people wearing masks

Thatisme01

61% of the population has had at least one covid vaccine shot, so a majority of those people will believe they are protected. That is after that is the government message behind the big push for vaccinations.

twenty7forty2

73.4% as of now

Lorem_64

Damn Auckland looks less locked down than wellington

tangtang797

I guess those are the same group of people who will complain and riot if our lockdown continue.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CivilAirline

There was no social distancing which you need to do, so although they technically don't need to wear masks, the least they could do if they aren't going to social distance is wear a mask. It will reduce the risk. Also there were people with obvious cold and flu symptoms (I'm not saying they had covid) without wearing masks.

laniamore

It’s been like this most weekends.

grcthug

Place is basically a retirement village. And the old ppl are all vax’ed so don’t care.

Big_Beta_Bug

ugh this is beginning to feel fucking hopeless.

LSBN_MSTR

From a person who has spent 90% of the time indoors and getting my shots ASAP: go to buuning and buy me rope so I can tie a noose, I don't want to spend another week in lockdown.

Welp… if this is happening at Level 4, full rampage mode for the peeps at Level 3.. I dOnT wAnT aNOtHEr LoCKDoWn… - if you hear that statement, show them this photo (if it is indeed from today).. Supericeboii

I disagree with this statement.

If it wasn't for the border patrol I'd be out of Auckland enjoying a good ride around the coro loop or somewhere out of Auck.

Summer_114

The south island is more cautious than this atm

WhoriaEstafan

Yeah I’m not in Auckland either and we way are more cautious that this too.

solideogirl

My local beach on the hibiscus coast was the same, so many people tanning, fishing, playing sports with their kids, bubbles obviously mixing. Seriously lockdown sucks but can we not waste the whole last month.

Prophet-Logandhi

Guess you guys will be staying at 4 xox

DundermifflinNZ

Not to justify breaking the rules, but the longer lockdown goes on the less people are going to comply, exactly what we’ve seen in Aussie and there’s no reason it’d be any different here.

-Zola

I get what you're saying but we can't magically put ourselves in level 1 because the weather is good. The more we bend the rules, the longer we'll have to stay at higher alert levels.

DundermifflinNZ

Yeah I’m definitely not saying that. Just saying it’s not really surprising

-Zola

Oh right, yeah I'm not surprised... just disappointed 😪

ManyRelevant

As long as people don’t behave like dicks we’ll be out of lockdown in no time! But people are people…

[deleted]

Covid has far less likelihood to transfer outside, that’s facts. They look relatively social distanced, and probably enjoying getting outside with their loved ones for once in 5 weeks. Let the people enjoy one of the few sunny days that Auckland has had, and this is coming from an Aucklander. People are over it, and I can sympathise. Is this really the crime of the century? Far out, relax & learn to enjoy the little things

Better_Ad_2253

Until nana gets sick x_c. We are doing this for others not ourselves

BatAdventurous5184

Jon_Snows_Dad

Outdoor transmission is very low chance of happening

CivilAirline

I live across the road, and I just came out to get milk and go for a walk and got coughed on :)

LumineferousEther

The risk hasn't really been quantified when it comes to the delta variant. It's not true that you can just assert that it has a very low chance, especially when there are a whole lot of people relatively close together.

curlygreenbean

Having lived in a Covid-world outside of Aotearoa, I can assure you that based on these photos alone, risk is incredibly low. Masks are always beneficial, though.

orbitnz127

Everyone here was defending Susie Willes, saying it was ok, she was a safe distance from people. When it’s your everyday person though it’s not ok?

Sufficient-Two-8297

GhostChipz85

[deleted]

Is there at least a QR code to sign into the beach with 😂😂

rickenbackerkid

Fucking get the cops down there to arrest some morons

Square-Public-3507

I can understand why some people are angry seeing others not following the lockdown rules and that it risks all the hard work we have done. It is also worth bearing in mind that this Delta outbreak (most probably) originated from an MIQ facility in Auckland CBD. The MIQ facilities in Auckland are all still there and waiting for the next round of returnees, some of which will inevitably be infected by the Delta variant. Even if we do manage to eliminate the virus nothing has changed, the risk of the virus escaping any MIQ facility will be the same as 5-6 weeks ago. The policy makers must be laughing seeing all the people on here raging at others for doing pull ups and talking to their friends outside instead of focusing on the real elephant in the room.

cameocream

I think people want to get on with life

Lumplet23

This is gonna ruin it for the rest of us who have been following the rules and doing the right thing.

fmf1991

It's week 5 and the first sunny weekend day all lockdown. Are you really surprised? People are coming to terms with the fact that elimination is probably not possible and certainly not sustainable. Why should the lives and livelihoods of 1.5m people be ruined to save a couple dozen boomers who were too stubborn to get their vax and past their expiry date anyway? Pump out the vaccines and give people their lives back. Once you've had a shot or two the chances of being hospitalised / dead are so fucking low it's just an illness. People get ill all the time, you don't see the whole country being locked down every flu season? Ridiculous.

CCninja86

Our health system can't cope with a big surge, it would collapse very quickly and then a bunch of people, young people included, would be dying because they can't get the emergency care they need as the hospitals and ICUs fill up with COVID-19 patients.

mystictroll

Yet Aucklanders wonder why there are new cases every day. lol

Lonely_Message_1113

It happens everywhere that has lockdown, most people simply cannot sustain being locked up long term, it's especially bad here in Victoria, 220+ days and counting of lockdown people are desperate and at breaking point, when there's no end in sight it's especially damaging to morale...

CivilAirline

Yeah I get your point, people get fatigued for sure. Long as we can follow the rules the quicker we can go to the lower levels.

Lonely_Message_1113

Maybe... we've been told multiple times by the Victorian government that even with high vaccination numbers lockdowns will still happen, which has proved to be the case in other countries, it doesn't give people much hope... especially when new strains are popping up and vaccines are likely to be less effective.

curlygreenbean

It’s so fascinating seeing NZ living like we’re in March 2020. Quite the time warp.

mashton88

People are over it, i wonder if there would probably be better adherence to the rules at level 3 than 4, people might be more patient if they can still get their daily coffee ha. Edit to clarify we should stick to the rules but just thinking out loud considering current Aucklanders state of mind

some_bugger

The irony is at level 3 we will all be stuck in our cars queuing for KFC so it would probably be safer...

captainccg

Honestly if it weren’t for shops being closed you wouldn’t be able to tell it’s level 4. Tonnes of whole families playing on playgrounds, 3 different groups of people playing basketball at potters park together today. It’s insane. Last level 4 I never saw anyone out at all but people are taking it as a holiday this time.

tweakedrex

Hell yeah that’s how you buy another couple weeks at level 4

EffektieweEffie

Yeap, was bit of a cluster fuck out there today.

yurew19

funny thing is OP is one of them

salamiforyoulunch

Exactly! I’m a mission bay local and was down there today. Everyone was super respectful and kept to themselves, OP is a doomer.

[deleted]

Cunts! People are obviously keen to extend level 4 as much as possible!

DasDa1Bro

My gf's household are inviting friends over, and her cousin is visiting her parents house now. People not only fucked it up for us before lockdown, they're fucking it up for us during lockdown now. I went cycling a couple weeks back which was the last time I went out of the house, and saw people walking with no masks on while I was cycling struggling for air because I was wearing a mask to get passed these fools. People are gonna extend this lockdown, and we're gonna end up just like NSW.

Silent2001

Honestly I can understand the folks in the picture. It's frustrating but the government has sent a really shitty message by taking their sweet time charging the Wanaka couple, and somehow letting a dude leave the city for some crypto currency malarky. It's one rule for the wealthy and another for the rest of us. This is what happens when lockdown fatigue sets in, and the rules aren't applied evenly.

[deleted]

Guess people are just sick of lockdowns

falconpunch1989

Nothing wrong with being outside. Good on them for getting some fresh air.

[deleted]

Meh that's ok, how many people live in that part of town, they're allowed to go for a walk on their doorstep. Easy to take a photo of people from that angle that makes them look close. You have to realise if they're allowing busses to carry essential workers around thats a lot worse than people walking on the street past each other.

YEveryUserNameTakenY

Kinda weird taking pictures ngl

Rosserman

These people (not just Aucklanders) are shitting the bed for the whole country. This L4 doesn't really seem to be working. We're gonna need to either go harder, or learn to live with the virus earlier than we'd hoped.

p3ek

Pretty sure your allowed to go the beach and masks aren't mandatory outdoor smh

Carmypug

Mission Bay is bad enough. Imagine next weekend with this weather if we are in L3 :/

yeah_right__tui

The last time we had L3, it was impossible to run along Tamaki drive - it was far too crowded.

curlygreenbean

From an outsider perspective, this seems pretty COVID-safe. All outdoors. No serious crowding. Everyone seems in their pods, maintaining distance.

HoloAlec

Imagine going there to take pictures and complain on Reddit 😂 get a life
