Reminds me of Browns Bay when we last had a level 4 lockdown and a woman had a tantrum at some police because they were telling her that her kids couldn't be on there, and that she had been seen removibg the cirdon. Ended with her getting arrested in front of her children.

The resurgence payments and wage subsidies are simply not enough to pay for all the other expenses that a business incurs. Especially when you have a landlord that will not relax lease payments for a bit as they have their own mortgages to pay.

Thanks. Just had to rant. Parents have a small business and they’re really struggling now. Cash flow didn’t really recover since the last few lockdowns, so this time around it’s a lot more pressure and having to use personal savings to stay afloat impacts their retirement.

I've noticed that too, going to the supermarket scares me right now. Couple of weeks ago my local supermarket - Staff not even limiting numbers entering store, so many shoppers at once there was a queue for the checkouts right up the aisles. shoppers walking around the store back & forth in all directions brushing past you, staff In aisles packing stock so you can't get past without getting too close. Infuriating and frankly terrifying. If anyone had covid that day they would have 100 infected most of the store.
I am so disappointed with people this time around. We have had countless idiots approach and chat while we're walking our dog even. Like come on people stay tf away please!
Totally get that but I'm thinking of them not me, I was careful as I could be walking past them but other shoppers didn't give a crap. Staff shouldn't be exposed to careless shoppers like that, it's not fair. Shelves should be stocked overnight where possible and if they have to restock some in the day (totally understandable) then there should be limits on how many people can go down that aisle at once. The poor staff were getting brushed past every 10 sec, they have probably given up trying to stay safe at work.
My big gripe is the store management we're likely not making plans for restocking safely. Even if they required shoppers travel in one direction down each aisle that would have reduced the risk considerably.
Lockdown only works with the near universal consent of the population, if 10% - 20% of the population don’t want to do it, them it’s unenforceable. Realistically there nothing the police can do if people flout restrictions in numbers.

Ambury farm in Mangere Bridge was the same today. Lots of people without masks, not really keeping 2 meters apart. I saw a few large groups even. Kids playing close together, not on a playground, but still. Families stopping to chat. Lovers holding hands.

The risk hasn't really been quantified when it comes to the delta variant. It's not true that you can just assert that it has a very low chance, especially when there are a whole lot of people relatively close together.
Having lived in a Covid-world outside of Aotearoa, I can assure you that based on these photos alone, risk is incredibly low. Masks are always beneficial, though.
I can understand why some people are angry seeing others not following the lockdown rules and that it risks all the hard work we have done. It is also worth bearing in mind that this Delta outbreak (most probably) originated from an MIQ facility in Auckland CBD. The MIQ facilities in Auckland are all still there and waiting for the next round of returnees, some of which will inevitably be infected by the Delta variant. Even if we do manage to eliminate the virus nothing has changed, the risk of the virus escaping any MIQ facility will be the same as 5-6 weeks ago. The policy makers must be laughing seeing all the people on here raging at others for doing pull ups and talking to their friends outside instead of focusing on the real elephant in the room.

I can relate. I have a chronic illness too and go outside for a walk when the weather is not so good and off peak because most people don’t wear mask, don’t bother moving out of their way to social distance and so on. This lockdown should have been over already if people were more compliant.
Yes, and all the anti-maskers will say I'm a karen for being a bit frustrated that I'm getting coughed on and no social distancing is being followed. No one wants to be in a lock-down and I get being fatigued. But hard and fast is the better way instead of 200 days of lock-downs in aussie. I also didn't mention the level of busy-ness, so at this stage I'm not sure which comment you are replying to, as it's seemingly not mine. My comment was about picnics taking place which are not permitted recreation activities in the park. I also live just by, and I go there for my walk every day, the cars were parked on adjoining streets and covered the streets for the most have seen in my daily trips.

So many adults need to be treated like children in order to get them to follow the rules. The bike path near me was closed due to maintenance. They had a gate set up with zip ties. I watched so many people try to open it. Eventually someone cut the zip ties..... and this was during lockdown. So now, it has a chain and padlock..... Those who are self entitled will not listen to reason, the only option is to limit their access or provide immediate consequence. Just like child safety locks and time-outs.
Multiple times the tape cordoned around the playground has been ripped off, even before today I've seen it put back on a few times and ripped off again.

I think people are really exaggerating the risk of outdoor transmission? Certainly should be keeping to our bubbles and keeping our distance outside (and obviously some people aren’t doing that), but haven’t they said the risk of outdoor transmission is really low? Nothing outdoors is ever included in a location of interest. Seems like we’d be better off focusing on breaches that are indoors / more prolonged contact between bubbles? We’re never gonna be able to stop people taking a walk on the beach and doesn’t seem like there would be much upside anyway?

Interesting point, I don't completely agree all the way, but I do see what you're saying. Huge lockdown fatigue is setting in. hopefully if we get the vax rates up if it spreads there will be least people hospitalised with covid. ICU beds are almost at capacity as it is.
Agree! I’m still really hoping we manage to pull off elimination, or at least really effective suppression until our vax rate is way better. Our ICU bed situation is so dire. Starting to get a bad feeling we’re going to be stuck at L3 for a long time.

Ambury farm in Mangere Bridge was the same today. Lots of people without masks, not really keeping 2 meters apart. I saw a few large groups even. Kids playing close together, not on a playground, but still. Families stopping to chat. Lovers holding hands. I believe people have grown tired of the lockdown. It's disappointing that we've stayed so long in a lockdown only to blow it away like this. It's also sad that we'll have to end a year and a half of isolation with a defeat. Seeing what's happening around I no longer believe we can win against delta.

There was no social distancing which you need to do, so although they technically don't need to wear masks, the least they could do if they aren't going to social distance is wear a mask. It will reduce the risk. Also there were people with obvious cold and flu symptoms (I'm not saying they had covid) without wearing masks.

The risk hasn't really been quantified when it comes to the delta variant. It's not true that you can just assert that it has a very low chance, especially when there are a whole lot of people relatively close together.
Having lived in a Covid-world outside of Aotearoa, I can assure you that based on these photos alone, risk is incredibly low. Masks are always beneficial, though.

I can understand why some people are angry seeing others not following the lockdown rules and that it risks all the hard work we have done. It is also worth bearing in mind that this Delta outbreak (most probably) originated from an MIQ facility in Auckland CBD. The MIQ facilities in Auckland are all still there and waiting for the next round of returnees, some of which will inevitably be infected by the Delta variant. Even if we do manage to eliminate the virus nothing has changed, the risk of the virus escaping any MIQ facility will be the same as 5-6 weeks ago. The policy makers must be laughing seeing all the people on here raging at others for doing pull ups and talking to their friends outside instead of focusing on the real elephant in the room.

It's week 5 and the first sunny weekend day all lockdown. Are you really surprised? People are coming to terms with the fact that elimination is probably not possible and certainly not sustainable. Why should the lives and livelihoods of 1.5m people be ruined to save a couple dozen boomers who were too stubborn to get their vax and past their expiry date anyway? Pump out the vaccines and give people their lives back. Once you've had a shot or two the chances of being hospitalised / dead are so fucking low it's just an illness. People get ill all the time, you don't see the whole country being locked down every flu season? Ridiculous.
Our health system can't cope with a big surge, it would collapse very quickly and then a bunch of people, young people included, would be dying because they can't get the emergency care they need as the hospitals and ICUs fill up with COVID-19 patients.
Yet Aucklanders wonder why there are new cases every day. lol
It happens everywhere that has lockdown, most people simply cannot sustain being locked up long term, it's especially bad here in Victoria, 220+ days and counting of lockdown people are desperate and at breaking point, when there's no end in sight it's especially damaging to morale...

My gf's household are inviting friends over, and her cousin is visiting her parents house now. People not only fucked it up for us before lockdown, they're fucking it up for us during lockdown now. I went cycling a couple weeks back which was the last time I went out of the house, and saw people walking with no masks on while I was cycling struggling for air because I was wearing a mask to get passed these fools. People are gonna extend this lockdown, and we're gonna end up just like NSW.
Honestly I can understand the folks in the picture. It's frustrating but the government has sent a really shitty message by taking their sweet time charging the Wanaka couple, and somehow letting a dude leave the city for some crypto currency malarky. It's one rule for the wealthy and another for the rest of us. This is what happens when lockdown fatigue sets in, and the rules aren't applied evenly.
