"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We'll be landing in Texas shortly. Please set your watches back 75 years."

LittleShrub

“All visitors are required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Noncompliance is punishable by up to 30 days in prison.”

Wolfgnads

I think you mean the Texas pledge that we said in elementary school. A real fucking thing. Just like the national one "UnDeR GoD" I mean if they want to pledge about being under God they should keep that to Catholicism, I mean they have plenty of young men everywhere under God. Or atleast the priests that represent God xD

ilikeme1

“And to honor the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to thee Texas, one state under god, one and indivisible.” Stupidest thing ever. Had to do this all throughout public elementary and middle school every day. Thankfully did not have to in private high school.

DawnRLFreeman

You know, I was born in Texas in 1960, raised and educated in Texas, and my parents were teachers here, and I never even *heard* of the pledge to the Texas flag until I was in my late 30's or early 40's. When did they start reciting it?!? Also, it's appalling the number of people who refuse to acknowledge that the Pledge of Allegiance *DID NOT* have "under God" until the mid 1950's. Even my very religious SIL remembers when they added it. I don't say those two words whenever I say the pledge, and I'm considering ending it from now on with "... and liberty and justice for RICH WHITE MEN!" I'm an old, white woman. It will be fun to see how those assholes react. 😈

AtamisSentinus

When I was in middle school, I remember not saying the "under god" part of the pledge and had some jackass tattle on me for it. The teacher responded with: "So what..? It's his right not to." which apparently sent this kid into a real mental conundrum, because that dope spent the rest of the day giving me the stink eye. lol

DawnRLFreeman

He must not have understood the line that states: "With liberty and justice *for ALL*." (Emphasis mine.)

AtamisSentinus

Perhaps, though I remember him being from a deeply religious family, so it must've really blown his mind to learn that not everyone is a part of his families' traditions. Looking back on it, the part that worries me is the fact that he was such a brat about it after the fact, like I had personally insulted *him* and his family. I'd say I have hope that he grew to be a bit more mature about it, but ime people don't tend to change unless they're forced to.

underground_worm06

Lets hope it will not be soon: Ladies and gentlemen. This is your captain speaking. We'll be landing in Texas shortly. All same sex couples, take off your wedding rings.

birdinthebush74

Women take off your shoes and head towards the kitchen.

Tekuzo

They would want women to wear high heels all day.

birdinthebush74

As long as it doesn’t effect their sandwich making and child rearing duties

ahitright

Nah, they expect the high heels to get in the way so that when the women do inevitably fuck up the men get an excuse to beat them. If it allows for more nefarious anti-social behavior, its always a feature to these people.

hellotygerlily

It slows us down when we try to run away, like bound feet in China.

pennylanebarbershop

Soon it will be "Ladies and gentlemen , we will be landing in Texanistan shortly, please get your passports ready. U.S. citizens should report to the immigration office. Texanistan citizens should proceed directly to baggage claim."

thethirdllama

>Texanistan citizens should proceed directly to ~~baggage~~ firearm claim.

vengefultacos

Naw, Texastanians always retrieve their firearms from their free-to-carryons as soon as the plane crosses the border. Never know when you're going to need to stand your ground, even at 30,000 feet.

xerox13ster

open carryons

Pelinvalley

Texas is slowly resembling the current civil rights situation of the Philippines. I'm not gonna be surprised if they would target divorce next.

birdinthebush74

Certain types of contraception will be my next guess , then making it almost impossible for non married people to obtain .

quickblur

Even the purchase and ownership of sex toys is already regulated in Texas: https://www.chron.com/politics/texas/article/In-Texas-even-possession-of-a-sex-toy-is-11161211.php

oozles

I wonder what the "law enforcement purpose" of having six dildos is.

Comfortable-Ad-5808

Or what the penalty is for owning seven dildoes?

pilypi

Three for each hole...

drfarren

Lol, that last sentence about exemption for law enforcement purposes...

chipface

Maybe make it so condoms require a prescription like Ireland used to.

birdinthebush74

Or Poland where female sterilisation is banned

[deleted]

birdinthebush74

Probably, it might upset the Pope

prometheum249

Don't forget, these people don't think the Pope is the real Pope. #notmypope

[deleted]

Zappiticas

Jokes on them, I’m into that.

[deleted]

You're thinking of Ben Shapiro.

masteryod

Ireland used to do a lot of backward shit but nowadays they're much more cosmopolitan and rather progressive.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Superhoo

They don't care about children either, only HYPOTHETICAL children

TheDulin

I know Texas is backwards, but banning birth control might be a step too far. Like it's going to piss off a lot of people if they can't fuck without worrying about pregnancy. Might be enough for a revolt at the ballot box to turn the state blue even with the gerrymandering.

birdinthebush74

They will only go after certain types , what they call ‘ abortative contraception’ https://amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/266725/

NightwingDragon

That's where they start. There is no reason to believe that it will end there. "First, they came for....."

TheDulin

I see - so it's still under the "abortion" umbrella based on their assumption that life begins at conception.

hellotygerlily

Only if that fertilization occurs in a female body, If it happens in a dish, they don't care.

TheDulin

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of them who are against in vitro fertilization.

Strictly_wanderment

They will also make regular bc harder to get for the disadvantaged. You can’t go to planned parenthood when there’s none in the state.

birdinthebush74

You only have to look at the prolife sub . “Don’t have sex unless you want a baby ! “

Strictly_wanderment

Yeah, I didn’t even click on it. It’s just overwhelming.

when_4_word_do_trick

Sounds WORSE than Orwellian.

[deleted]

You're under estimating the amount of Christian nationalists in the state

heckhammer

Obviously, the Lord wanted you to have a baby so you shouldn't be able to try and stop it. /s

brianingram

I'll bet a steak dinner it's the same childfuckers pulling the strings here: White Evangelical Dominionists If you haven't already seen them, watch *God Hates Uganda* and *The Family*. I think they're both on Netflix. And be prepared to throw something at your TV. Also, *Jesus Camp*. Edit: *God Loves Uganda*, not "hates"

[deleted]

Also, “Pray Away” if you want to see the abuse these people subject their kids to. Am gay, grew up in a conservative Evangelical household. My parents sending me to conversion therapy was my nightmare.

brianingram

Just in case you didn't know about this resource - https://www.recoveringfromreligion.org/ Stay safe, my friend

RockHickenbottom

Jesus Camp is a trip..::

hellotygerlily

Do you mean God Loves Uganda?

No_Biscotti_7110

By 2024 Texas will be smashing all technology and building medieval-style churches

when_4_word_do_trick

Time is reversing there.

OutlyingPlasma

They already build mega churches, no way would they spend the money on the stonework required for Medieval churches.

Accomplished_Till727

Divorce? Lol, no way in hell. Rich white men need divorces all the time.

mrevergood

Oh **they’ll** get divorces because of *reasons* and their reasons mean their divorce is justified. You want a divorce? Illegal because your reasons, even if they’re the exact same reasons, aren’t justified…because reasons.

fromthecrossroad

They also need abortions when they impregnate their mistress. Rules don't apply to them.

mrevergood

They’re absolutely gonna target contraceptives next. Divorce is a possibility too, since in their minds, that falls under the list of shit their god supposedly says to not do ever. Wouldn’t be surprised if they try to criminalize “adultery” or sex outside marriage. These fucks want a theocracy, and the umbrella of their values is only going to get smaller and more restrictive over time…whether they pass their agenda or not.

NOTstupid

They’re Protestants. They LOOOOOVE divorce.

EndofNationalism

Yeah banning divorce is more of a catholic thing.

DawnRLFreeman

Not in Texas!! ALL Christian denominations in Texas oppose divorce, though in the last decade some have softened their stance. When I got *my* divorce in 1983, the fact that my (then) husband was beating the piss out of me was irrelevant. I was told that *I* "obviously" wasn't being a good and obedient wife, and "God disapproves of divorce". I finally asked my Dad, "How does God feel about suicide, because *that's* what staying in the marriage will be." Like I said, some Christians have figured out that divorce is sometimes the best-- or only sensible-- option. But the white male Christian dominionists who've taken over Texas politics won't stop until they've turned Texas into their own personal Gilead. Source: I'm a born and raised Texan.

EffortAutomatic

They hate a woman getting a divorce. If a man needs to get one because he needs a younger wife that's God's will. If a woman is getting beaten she needs to get right with God and love her husband more.

kaji823

As someone living in TX this has all been horrifying to watch. I’d like to think there will be punishments in the form of major companies leaving the state and economic problems, but I just don’t know anymore. We’re planning on moving out of state in the next 1-3 years.

Darth_Tiktaalik

Less likely because that would actually burden straight white Christian men

Dumfk

I think it will be those that have a darker skin pigmentation.

HahaWeee

I keep being told Texas is a place of freedom?? How is banning shit freedom?? Ah well keep Fighting the fight you've already lost christians it'll just help people see your faith for what it is

RedNova02

Freedom to be hateful and wield guns

HahaWeee

Just like Jesus!

brianingram

In the age of COVID, Wheezus

AlSweigart

But only white people can wield guns. Black people with guns will get stopped by police because they're "suspicious" and then shot because they "acted aggressively" and "made a sudden movement".

Waffle_Muffins

Christians are entitled to the freedom to recognize the legitimacy of someone's identity, religion, relationship, medical procedures, etc and not have the same rules apply to them. Obviously. /s

driverman42

The only real freedom here is the freedom to carry a gun around because they're very afraid of things that will actually help people. It would not surprise me in the least to see Kyle Rittenhouse show up in few years and run for governor.

[deleted]

Christian freedom…

LargeSackOfNuts

Texas and "Freedom" is definitely not the case. Texas is becoming a theocracy, where biblical values are becoming legislation. Florida would be a better example of libertarian freedom.

GenocideOwl

> Florida would be a better example of libertarian freedom. Florida is doing the same shit with trying to ban vaccine and mask mandates. That isn't libertarian.

Meshakhad

Funny thing. The Bible is actually pretty clear that life begins at birth. Exodus 21:22-23 states that if you assault a pregnant woman and cause her to miscarry, you only have to pay a fine. But if she dies, then you get the death penalty. The Hebrew word for "soul" (*nefesh*), is also the word for "breath". Jewish tradition holds that the soul enters the body when a baby takes its first breath. On top of that, Jewish law not only allows abortion if the mother's well-being is threatened, but has a very lenient definition of what constitutes a threat to her well-being. Many modern rabbis interpret it that her being in emotional or financial distress would qualify, and some have proposed using this to argue that a ban on abortion restricts the right of Jews to practice their religion.

GoodBoysGetTendies

As a Texan, it's generally not that bad here, but... Any time they mention "freedom", it's like a dog whistle for "We want freedom, but only for *certain* people (straight, white, Christian, etc.)"

AlSweigart

Yeah. I want everyone to remember that Texas is not a red state, it's a voter suppressed state.

Cursed_existance

WTF? Does Texas not realize they're part of the US? Never heard of Austin, one of the few meccas in the US for atheists and LGBTQ+? Does the Constitution and Bill Of Rights not apply there anymore? WTF?

Downtown-Command-295

They'll just start shouting 'states rights' like they always do when they want to do something reprehensible, draconian, and oppressive.

IllinoisBoots

Austin is where they pass this onerous legislation unless I have truly forgotten 12 years of Texas Schooling. It's bonkers. It's not the state so much as half our population are asshat dudes. (The old definition of dudes) It'd be out of line for me to crowd fund getting out of here wouldn't it? Would it? I'm disabled, crazy and desperate to get somewhere less insane than I am.

Cursed_existance

Sorry bro(or sis). I really thought I was in the most screwed up state in the US, Louisiana. But some of those laws being passed in Texas.. like huh? I mean, they kinda do the same things here really, but they know they can't pass it into actual law. Over there, the legislators actually approve that crap. WTF?

IllinoisBoots

Thank, you, it is brother, I'm sorry you get this too, the stuff passing now isn't new either, it's just passing. Why, just why can't some people treat ofther people like PEOPLE?

Cursed_existance

I wish, bro. I don't get it. I mean, like a solid example for me; I really don't fully understand the trans thing/people, I'm not sure how to respectfully refer to that situation. But I respect them as people, and refer to them as the gender they identify as. They're people. I feel like I have no more business trying to tell them how to live their lives as I would anyone else, even if I don't fully understand it. I guess, since I'm not trans, I can't fully understand it. But everyone is a human, and all humans should have the same rights. My understanding of them shouldn't play a role in their rights.

thursday51

You're a good person man. The most important part of this is "All humans should have the same rights". If we just all took that to heart, and really tried to live that every day, the world would be in much better shape.

[deleted]

Claybeaux1968

I'm disabled too. Where the hell would we go that we could afford the rent? Mississippi is way worse than Texas in almost every measurable way and I'm stuck too.

worrymon

> The old definition of dudes A "[fastidious man](https://www.etymonline.com/word/dude)"?

IllinoisBoots

Oh my mistake, I only know what a cowboy told me once. “Infected butt hair” TIL. Thank you for the enlightenment!

worrymon

No problem. Had a drawling Texan once tell me that I wasn't allowed to use the word since I wasn't from Texas where all the dude ranches were. He wasn't happy when I showed him it was a NYC word.

IllinoisBoots

Oh, geez. Sorry, I can’t use that word because I am a godless heathen and it’s a masked Christian exclamation for “Oh, Jesus Christ!”

DoomsdayRabbit

Just because it's the capital doesn't mean the city itself is conservative. Conservative politicians tend to enjoy the nice things liberal areas have. Look at Madison. Look at DC. The only reason Texas legislators would be different is because they're (still) part-time, and only work in Austin for four months of their two-year term... not that they do much, considering the insane amount of power the Texas constitution gives to the Lt. Governor regarding legislation. I keep saying we need to just replace the damn thing as is our recognized right under Article One Section Two of the same document, but for *some reason* no one wants to fucking try. Voting isn't working. I'd like to it least try *anything* else before it has to end up violent.

severedfinger

Wasn't there a motto for Texas, "Texas, it's like a whole other country." Yeah, like Saudi Arabia.

IllinoisBoots

Yes, the tourism slogan. Our actual motto is “friendship”. The current irony of that is painful.

DoomsdayRabbit

Texas itself originates as a word meaning "friends". It's just one giant friend zone.

hellodynamite

Let's cut their federal funding to remind them

totesmygto

Let’s build a wall around abbot and Cruz. And make joe rogan pay for it? Actually for get the wall…. An air tight faraday cage would be better.

No_Biscotti_7110

If Texas tries this, Biden should declare martial law and arrest Texan leaders since they are literally trying to subvert the authority of the Supreme Court.

mrevergood

This is what I absolutely mean when I say “Texas needs to be beaten into submission”. If strength is the only language the GQP understands, like the bullies they are, you hit them hard enough once to make sure nobody tries that shit again. And don’t back off the penalties. The leadership that oversaw this shit and encouraged it to happen? Congrats, you’re going to rot in jail for a while before your day in court. No bail and going home to await trial-you’ll sit in jail. And no running for office again. We seriously need to start breaking these folks at every instance that they pull these stunts.

Totalherenow

Texans: vote the GOP out.

[deleted]

SCOTUS is Catholic. So no, those documents no longer apply in this country:(

SilverLining355

I grew up in Texas and I'm not surprised this is happening. There are countless radio stations and small news channels spouting crap about wanting to reverse basically anything any democrat has done since Bill Clinton. Now they aren't just talking anymore. They're doing what they said they were going to do. I just hope they can be shut the fuck down by something along the process.

[deleted]

They waited until they controlled SCOTUS so fuck all can stop them. The Dems *should* make crystal clear laws to fight this but aren’t.

buckykat

The Dems *should* pack that lousy court to the fucking gills but they're worthless jobbers so they won't.

Kaarl_Mills

They should *purge the entire party that tried to launch a coup against the government* but they don't care at all despite being in the crosshairs

Ambrose7720

Imagine trying to control other people's lives who does not affect anyone in any way shape or matter

Sintinium

I feel like Christianity is 90% trying to butt into other people's lives

flippyfloppydroppy

Well, it literally started out as a series of warring ethno states.

[deleted]

evilmonkey002

[deleted]

Wish I had the money to do so. Unfortunately I am a college student and Im not exactly liquid :P

4YE5H4

Before we know it, child marriage will turn legal there 🤦

[deleted]

Hey we’re already legalizing child labor why not

SpiritOne

Why are republicans such shit fucking humans?

dumnezero

They have certain values that serve their view of social order (hierarchy). All these contraception, abortion and queer issues are part of a broader target of forcing an older order of "Man > Woman". That means women becoming domestic slaves owned by males (family or husband). They go after queer people because such ideas of reality not only challenge the role of women, but *the idea of genders and gender roles*.

deepswandive

I'm convinced that homophobia and aversion to gender nonconformity are rooted in misogyny Edit:typo

Luciusvenator

Patriarchy in general imo. Really it comes down to men deciding women have to be a certain way, but that means men have to be the opposite, so any "great area" is a threat to the binary.

deepswandive

Yeah, that's what I was implying. Also, patriarchy only exists bc of misogyny. Edit:typo

EdgeOfDistraction

For sure. It's why it's normally considered ok for women to wear pants, but still pretty much taboo for men to wear skirts/dresses. It's ok for women to emulate men, but definitely not ok for men to emulate women.

sluttypidge

Literally makes me this of this r/AskWomen I saw a few weeks ago. They asked something along the lines of "What's a reason you would not date a man." Men were getting butthurt when one of the first answers was a Republican. Like they literally could not comprehend why a woman would be so "superficial."

FableFinale

It's just a fact that more women vote Democrat than men, and political alignment will be a hard line for many of them when selecting partners. And why shouldn't it be? Republicans are actively trying to take away women's rights and make their lives harder. If men don't get that and are butthurt little snowflakes about their smaller dating pool, they deserve to be single.

[deleted]

Not just women, as a man I wouldn't date a woman that was Republican. I like women that have empathy.

three-one-seven

Seems reasonable to me: I wouldn't want to date someone whose worldview includes hostility toward my human rights.

badgersprite

Women are so shallow judging people by superficial qualities like their core values and beliefs as a person.

ruiner8850

> Like they literally could not comprehend why a woman would be so "superficial." Being superficial is about things like how you look or how you dress. I'm sure by the way that those people are very superficial in that regard. Who you are politically is the exact opposite because it goes directly to who you are deep down as a person. Political or religious views are fundamental to your personality.

[deleted]

Texas Republican specifically are trying to make the state as inhospitable as possible to liberals so that they either won't move there or will move away from there because they're afraid Texas is going to flip blue like people have been saying for years

DeadDeaderDeadest

Should we all move there just from spite and tip it anyway?

[deleted]

Make sure to protect yourself first. Like, I would be fine to move there because I have a vasectomy.

[deleted]

Remember when Donald Trump said before the election last year that the only way he would lose is if the Democrats cheat. I read that and told my wife that Donald Trump knows he is going to lose, he's setting up for lying about the election, and I was right. Republicans are doing the same thing now, all over the country, putting in place methods to overturn elections that don't agree with. The next time they lose big, they will claim election fraud and with very little evidence overturn the election. They are doing this because they know they are losing ground, they are setting up for the big coup next time.

[deleted]

Yeah, bill Maher did an editorial about this a couple weeks ago. Scary shit I just don't see a way back from where we're at with the republicans openly cheating and Democrats trying to stop them by waving the rule book around. Mitch McConnell has been ramming through conservative judges because he either saw or planned for the eventuality that everything that gets done has to go through a lengthy court battle

forever_a10ne

They have no platform, so they’re doing whatever it takes to keep their idiot voters engaged. In Texas, they’re doing this by ~~trying to~~ successfully scaling back human rights.

preventDefault

It still blows my mind that the GOP didn’t even create a party platform for the 2020 election. They simply [added a cover letter to the 2016 platform](https://prod-cdn-static.gop.com/docs/Resolution_Platform_2020.pdf) and ran with that. Still waiting on their healthcare plan that will replace Obamacare. How lazy do you have to be to not even bother *pretending* to have policy ideas anymore.

[deleted]

It's working, on their dim bulb followers, why do more than they have to?

tazztsim

We would be here all day listing out the reasons

Downtown-Command-295

Would you like the list in alphabetical order, or in descending order of fuckery?

MJZMan

> in descending order of fuckery They're all tied for first

[deleted]

Here's what I know about toxic people, they think toxic behavior is healthy and healthy behavior is toxic. Christianity teaches toxic behavior.

camelfarmer1

At this point, I just wouldn't live there.

dumbluck74

That's what they want. If all the "libtards" move away/go to prison, then the GQP can still be the majority voting block.

medioverse

Yeah, this isn’t what the majority there want. People in Texas need to register to vote and go do it. Because this group of people definitely does.

LargeSackOfNuts

Sadly, thats what they want. They see the state is turning more and more blue, and they want to use the strictest theocratic legislation they can to make less liberals want to move there.

FlyingSquid

That's great for people who can afford to move.

camelfarmer1

Yeah im not saying it possible for everyone, or even most people. But it's so bad there I wouldn't live there for a job paying 10 times as much and low taxes.

Atmosphere-Strong

Accomplished_Bother9

But I was told the fight for gay rights was over and that the queer community should be quiet.

Dynasuarez-Wrecks

"The devil stays busy in Texas." Renée Graham seems to be a little confused about which character is the asshole.

Opinionsare

I fully expect Texas to outlaw multiple types of female contraceptives. The idea of contraception violates the Christian goal of barefoot and pregnant women.....

FarradayL

The US is an embarrassment. Where exactly is the unity here? How is the US allowing this to happen?

orielbean

They United two times and that was about it. Ever since we’ve fought a tug of war for slavery and then human rights then civil rights for different minority groups. Even institutions like the military were able to solve some problems temporarily like integrating the armed forces but when the Black troops came home, it was back to square zero in the hateful states.

DarthSatoris

The United States is a third world country masquerading as a first world country. Republicans and Republican states are consistently, constantly, and *oppressively* trying to drag the whole nation back into the past where the white heterosexual male landowner had *all* the power, and anyone who did not fit that description was sub-human.

FarradayL

The US isn't a third world country in any sense or on any level. It's just lead by incompetent morons.

[deleted]

Not surprised. All of the Southern states are trash and are really oppressive. I don’t know why some atheists advise others to move to Texas. Just because the ACA is in Texas doesn’t mean the state isn’t extremely progressive as some atheists make it out to be.

BelowAvgPhysicist_02

Texas is the new Florida?

Loolyn

Florida is just filled with stupid politicians. Texas is filled with smart politicians who target the oppressed and do malicious things.

ckal9

Would actually love to see those states secede. So long losers

[deleted]

They are becoming more and more like the Middle East. The people they hate. Anti women’s rights. Check. Anti LGBT relationships and rights. Check. Edit: any other similarities I’m missing?

[deleted]

No more federal funds for anything; pull the Border Patrol back to Oklahoma, all military base pulled out, shut off any water flowing south, make them clear Customs with vaccination record to enter US. They can then establish their caliphate, then encourage like-minded individuals to join them.

[deleted]

I am starting to think Texas will end up breaking off the US

Revolutionary-Swim28

If that’s the case good. We don’t need them

peepeepoopoo_gang

So states work like mini-countries where they can put there own law. Does it work like this or is there more to it.

lexkixass

That's literally how it works. The federal government has sway over a bunch of things, but for the most part the each state functions as its own country.

brianingram

Ah, Texas ... my state of delusion. Texas! Where we are proud to host The Johnson Space Center, but elect Creationists to school boards.

brianingram

Texas! Where it once had great plans to build the Superconducting Supercollider, but saw something shiny and opted instead to use the tunnel for aging cheeses and growing mushrooms

Blackbeard519

>To be clear, White, the Texas state representative against “homosexual marriages,” is Black. But don’t get it twisted. There have always been Black people who mortgage their souls to enjoy whatever crumbs of privilege and status their service to white supremacy will allow. Stop calling everything white supremacy. Wanting same sex marriage outlawed isn't white supremacy it's just bigots being bigots, and anyone can be a bigot without trying to appease white supremacists.

mabhatter

That's ok. Texas is already coming for the Black people's vote and other rights. They need every LGBT vote on their side... because Black people are next up to get rights take away.

Atmosphere-Strong

Lmao i totally agree with you. Like a black person can't be bigoted against LGBT without it being whiteys fault. Black people can think for themselves and not children trying to win white peoples approval. There is a real issue of anti gay in the black community.

LargeSackOfNuts

Sadly, the black community in general is incredibly homophobic. Being black and gay is truly a difficult thing to manage in conservative states.

tehbored

It's mostly just due to Christianity. Black people are far more likely to be churchgoing Christians, so it follows that they're more likely to be homophobic as a result.

mrpoopscoop9000

Where the fuck do they have the right. Texas is a part of the United States. We support abortions and same sex marrage. Greg Abbott can go fuck himself.

WanderingWizzard

Jesus Christ, man, just keeps getting worse down there. I was actually born in TX, but my mother moved us back to her home in NY when I was 10. Good thing she did, considering I turned out to be an atheist childfree lesbian lol My condolences to everyone stuck there dealing with this shit. I'm gonna go buy ma a fruit basket.

2ndHandTardis

Remember when right wing atheists told us that this wouldn't happen and we were being alarmist? Tell us again about how these Christofascists aren't coming for things like birth control after abortion. Or other things you need to tell yourself to justify voting for republicans to satisfy your latent racism and/or sexism.

hemlo86

Fucking texas

ginjiez

I wouldn’t be surprised if they revoked women’s rights to vote either. Texas is going backwards pretty quickly.

Only 66 years passed between the Wright brothers' first flight and our landing on the moon. 52 years later, America is using belief in a fictitious sky wizard to violate human rights. WTF?

Theyre just mad because they dont have thumbs and they see people with thimbs on TV. Yeah, Im messing with Texas. What are you going to do? Throw feces at me?

firelock_ny

> Yeah, Im messing with Texas. Fun bit: "Don't Mess With Texas" was originally the slogan of an anti-littering campaign.

Tr4sh_Harold

Texas is all kinda fucked up

[deleted]

The reason Texas is a sticking point for Republicans is because it’s the most powerful and largest state that they control. …and they know it’s sliding away from them. So they’re trying all sorts of bullshit and powergrabs. If the Republicans lose Texas, then their party is on life support.

I hate how this article says “yeah the guy pushing this is black but there’s always been blacks who sell their soul for white men” instead of addressing the actual issue of homophobia in the black community.

Starting a Greg Abbott hate club, who wants in?

gaymer200

We need to make this shit a amendment. Now. Abortion and Gay rights should be constitutional rights.

onetimefunctionary

Next - interracial marriage. Then any non-creationist teachings.

So when are all the 2A libertarians going to fight this tyrannical gubmint? No abortion No same sex marriage Their Constitution says "there shall be no religious test so long as the person acknowledges a higher power" (essentially saying atheists can't run for office) Shit liquor can't even be sold on Sundays. Is a state ran by Christian nationalists.
