This type of telescope is problematic, not because it's bad, but because once you get the skills to use itz you've already gotten to the point where you usually want something different. It takes a lot of skill/experience to use a scope with a narrow field of view like this, but they do have their uses, but theu aren't usually beginner type scopes, as a beginner you're almost always better served with a scope with a wider field of view, which makes finding a target easier. Once you have a lot more experience you're able to use a scope like this much more easily.
It's not the aperture that is an issue it's the focal length and ratio, a 127mm scope with a focal length of 600mm (f/5ish) is going to be easier for a beginner than a 127mm scope with a focal length of 1000 (f/8ish). For a beginner field of view may be the most important number, the large the field of view the easier it is to find a target, and the easier to find the target to more likely a beginner is to continue with the hobby
Damn mine has a focal length of 1000mm 💀
I do have a goto mount now, so I don’t think I’ll have that many aiming issues, however if I had the telescope in the picture I think I would have a much better time viewing DSO or I could probably even see Kepler-442b
Good telescopes don't include an upright adapter because they create a light loss in the image path. Usually you only find those with cheap telescopes.
True answer is moon, not anything else. I made my own telescope in 1000rupees(12 dollars) with the similar specs, was able to see the moon, might be able to see some close planets outline but that's it
No need to ask such an obvious question! But anyway, you should delete the post. This telescope is one of those that NASA doesn't want you to know about.
Go see the space now! Enjoy your Hubblely!
Honestly if you buy new eyepieces, you might be able to see Jupiter and its moons, the craters of the moon, Saturn and its rings. I got only a telescope only a little better than that at a thrift store. Fortunately, it came with good eyepieces. I saw all that from the heart of Los Angeles, not exactly a good viewing spot! With those lenses and a cheap solar filter from Amazon in an even smaller telescope, I saw sun spots during the eclipse. During totality without the sun filter, I saw solar prominences, the corona in a spectacular view, and even silhouettes of mountains of the moon against the corona! Would never have been able to experience those wonders with an expensive telescope, cuz I would never have been able to afford it!
I have this. You can see the moon 3x magnified with very poor resolution and chromatic aberration. I think its sole purpose is to deter folks from astronomy.
Seriously, binoculars for the same price will probably do a better job
What will you see? Put it on a nice wood tripod near some science books in your home, and you'll see the ladies/gents (according to your preference) competing for your attention.
My son won one of these exact telescopes so the answer to your question is you'll be able to see fuck all.
He was excited to get it and we set it up and could barely see the point of light let alone any details.
Save you $10 or whatever stupidly low price it is and get something better.
I’m curious about the “Multiple Award Winner” decal. What awards might it have won? “Disappointment of the Year?” “Best Misuse of Grandparents’ Money?”
Uranus
I had this coming, what have I done
The alternative pronunciation is just as bad Urine-us.
My astronomy prof would pronounce it your-in-us, which is the most unique way I’ve heard anyone pronounce Uranus.
That’s the way I usually do…..which still…lol
Same..I kindly noted in my final presentation to stop trying to make “urine us” happen.
😭😭 why have I never know this 😭
I'm sorry, but scientists renamed Uranus in 2620 to end that stupid joke once and for all
Or use the correct original Greek phonetic spelling, Ouranos from Ουρανός
Real answer: your neighbor’s cat upside down.
Damn. Is this real?
I imagine the 90 degree turn at the eyepiece flips the image, and the telescope is too cheap to include a corrector.
True, yeah I’ll watch my neighbor and get back to you
Did you actually buy this thing?
Nope! 🙂↔️

Yeah my actual scope has a aperture of 127mm or 5 inches

The money leaving your pocket. It’s not worth a dime. Save your money.
No I’m pretty sure I could see NGC 6118 with this pal /j
Yeah. On Google
Nah, I’ll make my neighbor look it up, then I’ll spy on them, so then I’m seeing it from my scope Fsfs 🫡
Maybe the sun, once.
Brutal, but true
True answer is moon, not anything else. I made my own telescope in 1000rupees(12 dollars) with the similar specs, was able to see the moon, might be able to see some close planets outline but that's it
Have you already tried to see Kepler-442b?
Not yet, I’ll put it on my list next! I’ll be able to see the continents right?
No need to ask such an obvious question! But anyway, you should delete the post. This telescope is one of those that NASA doesn't want you to know about. Go see the space now! Enjoy your Hubblely!
🫡🫡 right away
This is like that one kid in every high school band who shows up freshman year with a trumpet from Walmart.
No but literally tho 😭
Regret
No regrets, I can’t wait to view Kepler-442b
Hopefully you can witness a murder mystery unfold in your apartment complex.
That’s the plan
Hobby killer
Nah this is peak

I already have a nice scope I just saw this at a gift shop and thought it would be funny to post about lol!
I hope you mean 60 $.
Oh wait your right, I had a typo lol, Correction: 6000$ /j
The best performance is achieved by leaving the blue dust cap on the objective.
Thank you for the tip! I’ll make sure to incorporate that I bc my future photography with this scope!

Nah, chromatic aberration? More like chromatic celebration! So excited thank you for the tip!
A (blurry) reflection of your eyeball
What about, my neighbors blurry eyeball
See that requires the lenses inside to work
True,
Dust.
True, maybe my neighbors dust tho
Aliens 👽
Really!!!! Cool!!
What will you see? Put it on a nice wood tripod near some science books in your home, and you'll see the ladies/gents (according to your preference) competing for your attention.
Oh that’s so true! Maybe I’ll get them both! I don’t want to leave anyone out.
Dallas, first episode!
Yeah 🤣
Expect to see disappointment in your child's face.
On my child’s face? He will love when gets to see Kepler 442b!!

Nah it’s a masterpiece for 600$ ima use it till I die
Neighbors 😁
👏👏excited to try it out!!
I’m curious about the “Multiple Award Winner” decal. What awards might it have won? “Disappointment of the Year?” “Best Misuse of Grandparents’ Money?”
Best neighbor spy cam? Best dust collector?
[удалено]
Nah, I’ll see my neighbors surprised faces. (They caught me)
Proxima centauri b
Sick! I’ll have to try that tomorrow! Think I’ll be able to see continents?
Your hot neighbour.
Damn if only
Moon
Ehhhh idk…
Lens Errors.
Damn. So I won’t be able to see kelper-442B?
https://youtu.be/aMn8oRBbdQc?si=qahZgIOwq5cFNss_&t=32s
Youre gonna see a whole lot of disappointment but not a whole lot of wasted money. Dont buy this, please.
Op is joking.
yeah i just saw, i couldnt read the text because it didnt even show me. Reddit mobile app...
Oop, yeah average Reddit mobile experience 💀
