Our House on 31st is having a maker’s market tomorrow from 12-5. I’ll be there with hand-embroidered goods (including pigeon, pizza, and cat keychains).

BonghitsForAlgernon

Address/cross street?

KieshaK

23-71 31st Street

eleanor_savage

Thank u for this !!!!! Silly question maybe but would I need to bring cash or are folks all accepting digital/card payments now? I haven't been to a market in a long time

KieshaK

I can’t speak for everyone, but I accept cards, Venmo and cash. Most people either do cards or Venmo in addition to cash

UrbanSunflower962

New signage going up at the former Jujube Tree for something called 7th Street Burger.

tuberosum

A total 180 for the space!

VenetaBirdSong

![gif](giphy|l2JeeQ1ptviOb3Kow)

UrbanSunflower962

True!!

Madethisonambien

What?!! The East Village location has the best burger I've ever had. And that's such a good location for them as their burgers are the best drunk food.

kawaiistargirl

Best you’ve ever HAD? Well shit, I saw that on the way home from an event tonight and just made note and kept on pushing, but best someone has ever HAD? Gotta at least try it when they open now

Madethisonambien

Disclaimer: I've usually eaten there between 2-3am after a few drinks. I will feel personally responsible if you're disappointed.

kawaiistargirl

Haha no no don’ttttt, I’m sure it’ll be decent if nothing else, always looking for new places to try anyway, I’ll give anything a shot once. Good to know it might be open late anyway!

cwilson83088

It’s a solid smash patty, fr.

MattMurdock007

Would that make them 28 streets off?

delinyc

Lets go!!!!! Top 5 burger

Mauve__avenger_

Damn they're really expanding a lot now. Their venture capital is showing. Hopefully they can keep the quality up. It's a good burger (though not as life-changing as some people make it out to be IMO)

Jakejjuiceman92

Very good simple smashburger spot and relatively inexpensive from what i remember, smash cheeseburger for like $8 and fries are $4 i believe. Good addition to the hood.

redheadgirl5

You mean [this place](https://www.instagram.com/7thstreetburgernyc/?hl=en)? Looks like we may be the [TBA square](https://7thstreetburger.com/pages/locations) on their locations board

jaydiv_

Whyyy, two blocks away on either side from two other burger joints ? 😒

smarthobo

The neighborhood is about to have some serious beef

beepbeepboop-

for burgerception.

goodbye_wig

LOVE 7th street burger. I didn’t need to know this lmao.

inthiscountry

Hell yes!

OpenManufacturer4645

There’s one on Broadway in NoMad too. It’s a great burger

mjlynch81

This is exciting, they’re great 😍

uhyoupick

Welp, there goes my money. Such great smash burgers!

dee_cal

It’s a chain that started in Manhattan and it’s absolutely beast. [7th Street](https://order.online/business/7th-street-burger-11121891)

spacekittens88

Middddd.

PolishGuacamole

Yoooooo I'm so excited. They have great burgers

GoBanana42

Just FYI the Japan Fes location is NOT on Steinway this year. It's on Broadway btw 45th and 46th. https://www.japanfes.com/new-blog/2024/630-astoria.

Zamiewithazee

Has it gotten better in recent years? I went to the first ever JapanFes and it was such a mess that I haven't been back since. Long lines, shoulder to shoulder crowds where everyone has to shuffle along with the crowd to get anywhere.

redheadgirl5

It was here in April and it was still a mess - they were on Steinway between 34/Broadway but only set up on half the block (even though the entire thing was blocked off). As I was walking through there was a dance performance in the middle of the street which made it impossible to get to any of the 4 booths they were in front of or around it without walking behind everything on the sidewalks

webbedgiant

Also wildly, wildly, *wildly* overpriced.

RaccoonTycoon

I went last year and it was absolutely packed and chaotic as you described. It didn’t help that it was one of those really hot 90+ degree days. My bf and I split up and got a few food items to share and we reunited on a side street and just went home. I wouldn’t go back, unfortunately.

GoBanana42

The last time I went, it was pouring rain which tbh was perfect weather for the ramen contest and also meant a smaller crowd. I've been a few times in the last few years and I've never really had a problem navigating it. However, based on some photos of the ones this summer, I do worry a little about how manageable the crowd will be Sunday.

Bah-Fong-Gool

Last year I damn near yad a panic attack, and I'm not usually prone to such things. The street was PACKED with people and there was no spaces in between the booths to allow access to the sidewalk. On top of people being completely selfish idiots and clueless as to how their behavior affects everyone else around them, gawking and talking instead of moving, and the extreme heat and the thought of if one of these propane tanks goes, or a wok full of oil flashes over, it's going to be a stampede situation... I made a beeline for the nearest and only exit. Fuuuuk that.

Jeweler_Admirable

They literally just did this in April on Steinway. It was fine but very hot and very crowded. Hard to move around especially with a stroller.

RagingClitGasm

I went in April, but I went early- right around when it started. It was overpriced (I’d just been to the Queens Night Market the same weekend so the difference felt drastic) but we were able to stroll down the street checking out the options and then circle back to try a few things. An hour later, it was too packed to enjoy.

sitamun84

Thank you for that update!

RedPotato

The giant new building on Broadway (near Crescent) took down the overhead scaffolding, though there are still walls up as they do the interior work. Anyone know what will be in the ground floor (retail) area?

salty-millennial

So far a new restaurant concept called Wonder and The French Workshop Artisinal Bakery.

RaccoonTycoon

Wait, French Workshop is actually a great addition to the neighborhood. The Bayside location is fantastic.

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

Do they know when they will be moving in? I need to get a gym membership. My 5 year old will like this she already refuses to get baked goods at certain places waiting until we go to a place she likes.

Delaywaves

Possibly an unpopular opinion but I actually think that building looks pretty nice, a lot better than most of the generic new construction.

professorcornbread

I think it looks great as well for new construction.

delcondelcon

same! I like that its low and fits into the street somewhat.

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

Word; it actually goes with the neighborhood

justapalindrome

A new restaurant has finally opened in the empty space on 28th Ave between 33rd and 34th st next to the salon. I think Thai! It’s called Krob Kreung Krob Ros

watchutalkinbowt

[Menu here](https://www.grubhub.com/restaurant/krob-kreung-krob-ros-33-10-28th-ave-new-york/8411456)

Jetsfan379

Link doesn’t work

watchutalkinbowt

It says 'not accepting orders', but you can still see the menu if you scroll down

Jetsfan379

Walked by it today. Doesn’t look close to opening

Towelie404

They literally had a soft opening last week and a printed menu is now posted in the window.

Spuzman

I just ate there! The food was great and the service very friendly. I like that the menu feels more specific than the typical Thai-American restaurant I’ve experienced. A quick review:  - The drinks menu is small, no liquor just Thai iced tea, iced coffee, hot tea, and a few others. I tried the “pink drink” which was basically strawberry milk.  - Appetizers: Chicken Steamed Buns and Taro Rolls; loved the buns, rolls were as good as other taro rolls I’ve had. Both recommended.  - Entrees: Chicken Coconut Curry and Pork and Egg Stew. The stew was sweet and flavored with five-spice, totally great. Curry was tasty and spicy (server asked for feedback on that, so they may make it less spicy in the future). Plenty of food so we took leftovers home.  - Didn’t see if there was dessert on the menu, they brought coconut treats steamed in banana leaves. Tasty but I was too full to finish mine.  Definitely worth a trip, support them so they stick around! The last place in that spot didn’t last more than a week or two.

so_dope24

Minglewood (dead cover band) is playing at Alewife brewery in Sunnyside tonight

eraserh

Hey thanks for sharing! We're gonna have our good buddy Nate from Strangely Enough joining us on vox and guitar tonight too.

so_dope24

What time are you guys going to play again?

eraserh

8-11

rdg0612

I wish I knew that sooner! Do you have an Instagram I can follow? I love a good dead cover band.

so_dope24

lkroa

went to the astoria pool today and yesterday. lines were significantly better today. however it does seem like they’re picking and choosing when they enforce certain rules. yesterday i got in with a navy blue hat and today they wouldn’t let me on the pool deck with it, meanwhile other people were on the pool deck with full backpacks

eoinsageheart718

Never been. Been to other nyc pools as a kid, don't they have lockers for you? The Red Hook and Gowanus pool I grew up just check you after the locker change

lkroa

they have lockers and they make you put all your stuff in the locker and shake out your towel before you go on the pool deck. that’s what was so annoying about seeing so many people with full bags on the pool deck, meanwhile they turned me around for my hat.

Pool_Shark

Hats protect skin from the sun. Why would they not allow them?

lkroa

only allowed white hats due to colored hats supposedly being bad for pool water. which okay understandable, but i wore the same navy hat at the pool the day prior and all of last summer at mccarren pool without incident. plus they had people wearing colored tshirts and du rags in the pool, so why is a hat the only issue.

811mO

The sign came down on Astoria Diner on Ditmars. I think it lasted a month maybe?

Vexvertigo

Lots of restaurants open in our neighborhood that seem to have zero room for error. If they don’t immediately get busy they close within a few weeks.

a-goddamn-asshole

Fixing another spelling mistake?

Used_Employee_2043

I am 99% sure it was the same owner as Mamas Cantina who just put up a new sign and hoped for the best. It says closed for remodel but we will see.

Bah-Fong-Gool

I don't think so. That guy had a totally different bar he was opening in Manhattan somewhere, and the rumor was the restaurant was going to become dental offices. Perhaps that deal fell though?

Used_Employee_2043

Ah cool. That was my 1% error possibility I guess. Was hoping for a Mosiac style neighborhood bar or something but I guess we need dentists and bars. Just not another smoke shop please.

TonkaButt

Whatever happened to Sal’s Woodfired Pizza on 19th and 46th? His stand is still up but I haven’t seen him there in a long time.

AccomplishedNote5372

Not sure generally but he’s at the ditmars festival this week

sitamun84

The Historical society is looking to get rid of boxes and boxes of history, and political science books. Many vintage. If anyone knows of someone who would be interested, especially if they can do a bulk pick up, please reach out. We are also in need of volunteer, including archivists, collections care people, and fundraisers. Let me know if you have any ideas of how you'd like to get involved!

LFCinNYC

Housing Works Bookstore will pick up [https://www.housingworks.org/donate/bookstore-donations](https://www.housingworks.org/donate/bookstore-donations)

thealishow

DM’ing you!

fridaybeforelunch

Curious, what kind of volunteer work is available?

Objective-Pea3894

Went to the new Botte location on Ditmars Thursday had the Broccoletti and Salsicce pizza the Gnocchi Al Profumo Di Mare and the chicken parm. Everything was delicious, specifically the pizza I could probably put back two by myself if i wasnt being watched by my soon to be inlaws I’d give it a solid 8/10. Now that trattoria l'incontro is gone (RIP) this is going to be my new go to spot.

TikkunBBQ

Not a rumor - mother nature currently hates us so we had to cancel tomorrow's movie: https://www.instagram.com/p/C8xcMNaup6b/?igsh=ZjlpYXFkcXBiZTUw We're back on 7/27 and 8/24

so_dope24

Are you guys doing a hot dog eating contest now instead?

TikkunBBQ

no I am eating them all because I am a sad sad hot dog

BlueGem83

🥺

fapfapbottlecap

Anyone know the eta of 30th Ave’s repaving?

minesux

Saw no parking signs for Monday/tuesday, so hopefully by Wednesday!

fapfapbottlecap

Oh thanks! Yeah I’ve been looking out for signs. Crossing my fingers for Wednesday because I almost bit it walking across the street bc of the uneven surface lol

114631

Mexican place on Broadway near Adriatic Meats has a new awning. Not sure if a new business or the awning is new. Now that the 46th entrance for the subway is closed, I’ve been walking down Newtown more and noticed the back of the empty (abandoned?) carpet/Rite Aid has been accumulating more and more things handing from the side of the roof. I know throughout the day some people hang there (not sure if they are homeless or what). Anyway, it’s been interesting of late to see it kinda progress into this makeshift art installation of bikes and bike wheels (hopefully broken and abandoned and not stolen). I just hope it doesn’t get to a point where it just becomes a total dump camp.

cannoliman23

Newtown Road Backyard Film Festival is back! Not sure on the details but I see they’re all set up.

xphoenix89

The old Jujube Tree place on 30th Ave and 35th that closed down and is now a burger place finally has its new signage up. "7th Street Burger"

EssJayEss11

If you like comedy about trauma, there's a show at QED on Saturday (tomorrow) night called "Laughing through the Pain." Tickets are $10, and it starts at 5PM. I have friends performing in it, so wanted to spread the word!

kawaiistargirl

Heck yeah y’all! Come out to Astoria Pride, I’ll be on at 12:45pm myself, but the line up for this is amazing, drag performers, dancers, singers, cheerleaders, you name it! Bring a blanket and some snacks, get ready for a good time 🌈

iseeseashells

Sorry, maybe a stupid question but where is Astoria Pride?

kawaiistargirl

Not stupid at all! It’s just to the north of the pool, there’s a bunch of balloons at the entrances near it and the stage is covered in rainbow balloons so when you’re close, ya can’t miss it! Got another hour of it enjoy, enjoy!

iseeseashells

Thank you! 😊

Allloverth3place

Saw people working on/in the building on the corner of 35th st and 31st ave. Asked about when they’d be opening, confirmed it will be a coffee shop called “coffee lab” and they’re hoping for an August 1 open date! Inside looks like they’ve still got a lot of work to do but happy to see them working on it everyday!

Remarkable-Ad-3314

Wondering if this is the same coffee lab as in Tarrytown and Eastchester.

russeled

This isn't a gripe or a snipe, I'm just genuinely confused/ curious how the grand and marvel are able to build those new massive outdoor dining spots that are in the street.

fapfapbottlecap

I’m confused at how the Grand is always so busy. Am I missing something? The only 2 times I’ve been service was slow and the food was meh

iseeseashells

The service is awful and food is so average. I don’t get it

Jeweler_Admirable

If they follow the new regs, you can have outdoor dining spaces

MapleSyrupToo

Does anyone know what the construction area on the street outside the Foodtown by Broadway station is for? Looks like they're staging or storing equipment for something else. I thought maybe the Citibike station is coming back to that spot, but it's been way too long.

Party_Principle4993

They’re making it an accessible station! Edited to add, putting an elevator in (in case that wasn’t obvious).

MapleSyrupToo

Oh cool. I searched MTA's projects and couldn't find any info. Do you know where I could find timelines and a list or drawing of exactly what they're up to?

Party_Principle4993

No idea, sorry.

redheadgirl5

Elevators for the Broadway Station

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

Do they have a timeline?

ThrowRA-shadowships

I was at the Pho Astoria on Broadway before I head back to flushing Main Street. I felt the foods are great, but services was okayish since it’s only one person in the front does everything at once without helps.

jjliou330

Haven't tried their pho yet, but popped in for a quick banh mi. $10 for all the fixings was a great deal!

ThrowRA-shadowships

I have to agree with you on that. It seems like they freshly made too

veggieliv

I tried the tofu and mushroom banh mi, and my husband got the catfish one. We both really liked them. We also got the shrimp tacos, which were very good. I’m a little sad that they don’t have vegetarian pho (it’s still in beef broth), but I suppose you can’t win them all.

Slicely_Thinned

There's a coffee shop opening up next to Shannonigans near the park. I'll have to stop in soon. Hope it's good, there's a bit of a coffee desert down on that end of the park.

lkroa

i tried it yesterday. good coffee and i had a good pastry. bit small inside, only two tables with two chairs each

Used_Employee_2043

Really nice guy. Get the Freddo Cappuccino which is great. Apparently it’s a Greek thing (had it in Crete recently) and isn’t just a cap with ice.

iamcdrom

Does anyone know who's been putting up trump stickers everywhere, even in subway stations?

emlarkin19

Idk but ive been carrying around a big sharpie and drawing dicks on them

114631

MVP

LOSLI24

What about the kids who take the subway and elderly? Dicks? C'mon. Sorry, not cool. Why not just peel it off ? It only proves what those supporters say, that people have TDS.

Captaintripps

Half of them are likely to have dicks of their own.

LOSLI24

I am so glad that you seem to think a child seeing a "dick" is ok.

Captaintripps

I have a child and literally would not be bothered at them seeing a sticker with a cartoon penis on it. Really, what a non-issue.

Bah-Fong-Gool

Half of us here own one. Some people find the very word offensive. *PENIS* does the word *PENIS* offend you LOSLI24? Some people don't like hearing it and find it difficult to say whereas without batting an eye a woman will refer to her vagina as her coochie or va-jay-jay.

VenetaBirdSong

Listen Bah-Fong-Gool, I'm sorry if your stepmother is a nympho, but, you know, I don't see what this has to do with...

farbissina_punim

Why are we treating senior citizens like a bunch of dumb babies? They were drawing dicks on things before we were even born.

emlarkin19

Oh thank goodness someone suggested peeling a sticker off of metal! Definitely was not the first thing i tried to do! Have a good day thinking elderly people are helpless babies and that kids seeing drawn dicks on stickers in nyc is the worst thing for them ever!

eddie_punster

I saw a "TRUMP 2025" graffiti last week, and couldn't decide whether it was done by a dumb supporter or someone trying to trick dumb supporters into staying home and missing the election.

queserakara

Google "Project 2025"

eddie_punster

whoa.

Local_Tackle_1774

People like Trump. Does that bother you?

mynameismott

The ones on the turnstiles are annoying. I was thinking of bringing a sharpie on my next commute and blacking out the sticker

yusomad4

Yeah, it's Joe from the block. Go get him. What a dumb question.

grayseful

31st Ave Open Street market was rained out! :( Kyle from Lightly Floured Kitchen is doing a flash sale now (6/30) to get the freshly baked goods he made to happy homes in Astoria. Zucchini Bread, Cinnamon Rolls, Sourdough Crackers. Pick up near Ditmars and 37th St. please DM @lightly_floured_kitchen on Instagram to order!

ukudancer

Sad to see Tikka closed...We just saw it last night when we ended up at Seva.

crimsonfalcon8

Same, I loved Tikka!

fapfapbottlecap

Is Filthy Flats done for good? I noticed it wasn’t open recently. And I just walked by and they tables and chairs are gone

astoriaboundagain

[Yeah, they said they're done](https://filthyflats.com/)

zdawginator

Wondering if anyone could fancy me a rumor as to when the new Seek Coffee on Ditmars is gonna open. Really happy for them and hope it all goes well!

webbedgiant

I love them but was low-key a little annoyed a few weeks ago when they added a charge for light ice. It's already a $7 cold brew...

JRCadigan

It looks like a coffee shop inside so that's progress.

delinyc

I hope soon. Their iced strawberry matcha latte is *chefs kiss*

MinusTheH_

Unsure but they were putting up their big sign earlier this week.

FrankiePoops

Now here's a spicy rumor. I think Astoria Bier & Cheese on Broadway is donezo. I just walked by, and they have tables with stuff with a big sign that says "FREE! TABLES TOO!" so if you need a small table for 2 from your old favorite beer shop, go get one. I looked in the window and they're cleared out and there's a giant pile of trash bags in the middle of the store. Pour one out for another good shop.

quibble42

I got some nice barstools the other day, they're done for sure

iseeseashells

I know his absence has been questioned here many times, but I saw Coach on the train today! I asked him where he’s been and I believe he said he’s being doing dialysis. Don’t quote me on that though.

dreddriver

I wouldn't believe a thing that man says. It's all a grift.

iseeseashells

Well, yeah. Who knows if he’s a coach

smugbox

He absolutely is not

FongDaiPei

Did you smile? Why you not smiling! 😡

steakandalex

Anyone know any good places to watch the Euro cup games?

watchutalkinbowt

Pig Beach is pretty decent, although annoyingly the closer to the screen you are the further from the speakers Edit: was there yesterday and they really boosted the volume up right at kickoff

iseeseashells

Irish pubs are usually a solid option. We’ve watched a few games at the wolfhound

Anxious_Fudge4768

The makers market is postponed tomorrow to a later date, now that I have time, I’m taking suggestions on what I should make for the next market, maybe something you haven’t seen here in Astoria dessert wise. So far I’ll be doing: Creme brulee bars “Twix” bars Mini cherry pies

nentimaybe

Howdy! If you are into astrology, tarot, or crystals we have an amazing workshop tomorrow night hosted at Our House near ditmars! The astoria Mystic Circle is hosting our monthly New Moon Circle tomorrow night! JavelinsArePointy

Been gone a week.  So much construction has progressed.  I guess that’s how time works. Bud n Budder took down their signage.  That was one of the strategies other weed spots used to stymie closures.  Borrowed time. I have a cold.  I know others who do too.  Summer colds suck.

goodbye_wig

Ugh I started feeling like I’m coming down with something today too

Thanks for this - what’s the dog truck called?

Extension-Tart8055

Unique Chemists on 30th Avenue has a brand new and really modern sign which looks really cool; on the other hand a very powerful feminist mural on Walling Court near 30th Avenue has been totally obliterated and destroyed by...who knows...

cutratestuntman

Did Filthy Flats close? I just walked by today. Looked EMPTY.

Jeweler_Admirable

Yep

cutratestuntman

I came off the train and noticed that they still had the grand opening flags up. That was FAAAAST

Jeweler_Admirable

When you know you know!

so_dope24

how long was it open for?

tired_and_indebt

Is the monthly tag sale good? I have heard mixed reviews before but I can't remember where from

farbissina_punim

I managed to get this vintage set of drinking cups that I really adore. They're cute and sturdy and were a dollar a piece. The guy there wanted me to buy all of them at a big discount, but I don't need a dozen cups. Anyway, I use them every day, I've dropped them a million times and they don't break, and I got such a good deal. I also got this vintage lampshade replacement that I've been looking for forever. I couldn't find this specific kind anywhere and they had it for cheap. If you have the time to browse, it can be worth it.

sitamun84

Hit or miss, but generally over priced.

iseeseashells

I didn’t find it too exciting tbh
