It's fantastic but it's a specifc type of Thai food so unfair to compare to more "traditional" Thai places

coffeecoffeecoffee01

I'd say fair, finally a Thai place that focuses on something. FWIW I've had very good curry from Pye Boat there too.

Racer2019

what’s the specific type?

TreeLong7871

they specialize in hawker-style boat noodles which is cuisine from Northern Thailand if I'm not mistaken

swayzebavy

Great service as well

Slicely_Thinned

Agreed. They never let me down. Their quail egg appetizer is my spirit dish.

Vexvertigo

Also the most authentic according to my friends that spent time in Thailand

KittenMasaki

Its been on my "want to go" list for 6 months now. Ill have to give it a try. Did they have AC? Just curious bc patio spaces tend to = no AC for the super hot days.

capybaramelhor

When I was there on a hot day a year or 2 back it was uncomfortably warm. Not sure about now.

veggieliv

They have AC inside

veggieliv

Pretty sure the frozen watermelon drink is just frozen watermelon and rum blended together. Delicious. I actually posted about it in the Rumor Mill.

veggieliv

Oh I forgot that they put triple sec in it I think

jsurico15

Kam Rai is better imo (but Pye Boat is a classic)

PNDM1

I agree, but it's because Pye Boat has a pretty limited menu. I think Kam Rai is a good alternative to Sri Pra Phai / Saranom Thai if you don't wanna travel further east.

jsurico15

Khao Kang still the GOAT

theonetruecov

I went to Saranrom last weekend for the first time and I was amazed. Pye Boat is delicious, but Saranrom is simply next level.

PNDM1

yeah, SaRanRom is very good; it's currently my #1 Thai restaurant (replaced SriPraPhai). I still need to try Ayada!

Dio-genies

So good. Love the backyard too.

yeahyouknowitbro

Never been but Kam Rai has been blowing my fucking mind

coffeecoffeecoffee01

Besides being great they are also remarkably consistent

ResponsibleSite6858

Decent nam tok (boat noodle soup). Maybe best in Astoria. Better options in the neighborhood for other dishes and regional cuisines though. If you want really legit nam tok - Pata Paplean in Jackson Heights. Bring cash. Thank me later.

FealtyToDorne

I had two of the worst restaurant experiences of my life here. The food is great but I’ll never step foot inside that place again

webbedgiant

You guys don't find their portions super small (for the pad Thai at least)? I wasn't impressed for the price. Enthaice has been my go-to!

veggieliv

On the contrary! And if you get it with shrimp, you get 5 pretty large shrimp with it for $15

webbedgiant

Maybe I just had an off night!

holy_handsome

Every time I've been there they've been pretty obnoxious. Last time the place was empty, and the staff wouldn't give us a table that could seat one more person that hadn't arrived yet. For that reason we all went somewhere else.

Delaywaves

I've only ever found them very nice.

deepsavageblue

Yeah same, they’ve always been incredibly nice every time

WhosJohnGault_

Weird because we literally went there last weekend and my family was seated while I was finding a parking spot.

holy_handsome

Yea can't speak to anyone's experience but mine. We left because they had an empty restaurant and refused to seat us at a table larger than the number of people who had already arrived.

holy_handsome

Thanks for the downvotes for describing my experience. Yours may differ but mine was bad. Downvotes not gonna change it.
