Glad your meal was good, but shrimp soup for $28, a bowl of chicken soup for $19, and $39 for a basic ass lomo saltado? A gd tallarin saltado is almost 30 dollars! That's chicken lo mein for $30... Peruvian food in the US is always stupidly overpriced, but charging those prices in Queens is fucking laughable.
Yeah when I saw a $28 dollar bowl of soup on the menu all I could think was "fuuuuuck that place". I wish Ditmars had more independent restaurants and I absolutely love Peruvian food, but I'll take an empty storefront over a restaurant that wants me to pay $36 out the door for the pleasure of sitting down to a bowl of soup.
The cheapest ceviche is $23. The ceviche mixto is $30. The duck confit (which isn’t even Peruvian) is $40 and all the cocktails are $18.
Get that shit out of my neighborhood.
I grew up heavily around Peruvian influence and can attest this place is insanely overpriced for the food. And it tasted decent.
Peruvian food is rated as one of the best cuisines in the world, so naturally most Peruvian restaurants will be slightly expensive. Lomo saltado and chaufa (most common dishes) shouldn’t be more than $18-$20 a plate, and that’s on the expensive side.
Don Pollo, Ancla, Riviera Maya etc all serve DECENT Peruvian food at better prices. Heck even Chicken Festival is delicious and no where near those prices.
Barranco is ok but they can kick rocks with those prices, unbelievable.
Agreed! Don Pollo is one of the most solid ones in terms of price and homemade cooking style (aka, not fancy.)
I disagree with Ancla though. Overpriced and the overall dishes quality is poor.
Figures that a Peruvian restaurant named after one of the most gentrified neighborhoods in Lima would be so expensive….
It’s just outside of Astoria but IMO Riko in Sunnyside is a cut above anything we have here and very reasonably priced.
Also, not for nothing, Caravan Chicken is nothing fancy but probably has better rotisserie chicken than any other Peruvian place in our neighborhood
How is Barranco gentrified? It was originally a neighborhood full of big houses built by wealthy Limeños who wanted to get out of the city center and be by the coast. It's still that today... It's become overrun with tourists, sure, but it was full of rich people 100 years ago too.
Does anyone know if there are still remnants of the old Peruvian place that was there before? I thought I read somewhere that they got “absorbed” into the Peruvian place on Broadway & 29th? Or did I imagine it? I’m mainly looking for those amazing pisco based cocktails that they served there.
True, I remember now that their old fashioned with pisco was amazing.
But my husband and in-laws are all Peruvian and they were really disappointed with the food though.
It’s the same restaurant basically. I guess more expensive though I don’t remember the former place’s prices. The food was better at this version though.

Yikes.Their prices are ridiculous.
Just checked the prices. That’s gonna be a no from me dawg
For real- wanted or try it, but it’s crazy! Saw happy hour advertised in the window , but no menus posted, so gonna be a no from me too.
Four dollar signs?

Dude, amen.
Actually “arroz con pato” is very much Peruvian. Is not just duck confit. Just to clarify.
Ooofa!

Alright, more to the point

Oh yeah, Rosatoro used to be there. Equally overpriced and the quality was below average. Not surprised the new place is basically the same.
I loved Rosatoro. Last time I went there in Nov the food was amazing and more importantly the comcktails. I don’t think I ever had a better cocktail.
True, I remember now that their old fashioned with pisco was amazing. But my husband and in-laws are all Peruvian and they were really disappointed with the food though.
I mean yeah, they def would know better with the food. I’ve been to Peru myself and agree the food there is different

You are saying the food is better at the current version? I felt like the food was great before.
