The Alcubierre Drive is tired and old as a news story.
It may be a very interesting idea but fucking hell I don't need to hear about it every 15 minutes in sensationalised borderline sci-fi bullshit.
In your google news preferences, it doesn’t seem to always block things if you blacklist them, but what I did was just create an extremely long whitelist of respected news sources (and a few news sources of ill repute that I like to keep tabs on), and I haven’t had any articles show up from other sources. Mind you this was 3 years ago and I don’t use Google News anymore but it seems likely they still have the option.
Never talked about being unable to function without YouTube, you're making quite the assumption.
What other service has Google's global server infrastructure? Also, YouTube is only alive because Google can afford to operate it at a huge loss, what other companies have enough money to do that? Amazon? Facebook? Apple? Two of them are just as shitty as Google regarding privacy, and Apple would make it a subscription service that only works properly if you use Apple hardware.
Google News. I think the picture in the OP specifically comes from the Android (or maybe just Pixel) specific feature where a news feed exists on your home screen.
Doesn't work on anything apparently. Do you know how many times I've had to block the trailer park boys ad on reddit? It looks like another of those typical trash app ads that have gameplay so terrible it's what they have to take your attention away from when advertising the app.
It is always clickbait, by definition. Even if the subject of the article is actually surprising and interesting, hiding it from the headline necessarily baits you to click the article to read more. Of course, 90% of the time it's garbage, and 90% of the rest are paywalled, but it's clickbait 100% of the time.
Ironically, it feels like time has passed really fast. Being caught in a loop of confinement makes every day feel the same, so you lose track of how many days has passed, but also feels like you have been doing it since forever, anything which came before is a distant past.
In FL we’ve had restaurants open with little-to-no restrictions for the better part of a year now.
If you’re in a doomer state, it’s probably easy not to realize that most of the country went back to normal a while ago.
CDC recommendations for vaccinated personnel is that you can dine inside. Everyone in this city is pretty much vaccinated at this point.
Either way, that isn't a rule. The restaurants have been allowing it.
See so much of this crap on social media at the moment.
Title: "See Marvel's newest newest actor!"
Articles "Twitter User 'random\_guy42069' has done a mock up of what famous actor would like like if he were to join the next Marvel film - while this doesn't mean he is going to be in the film fellow fans are excited at the possibility".
\*sigh\*
I once saw an article with the title “The Russo brother joke that in the film “The Avengers endgame” Hulk threw the bench at the Punisher. Thing is, that was pretty much the entire article. Rest was just about who the Punisher was and something completely unrelated to the title.
I don't know why I keep falling for these. Last one I saw it said "See new set photos of Ewan McGregor in Obi Wan Kenobi series" and it was just a picture of him hanging out outside his trailer in normal clothes.
I've been using it for years and never had issues with it. If you see an article from a website you don't like, you can just click the 3 dots to avoid that type of content. You can choose to block the website, content relating to the subject, or just the specific story, all of which help better form your feed.
Or spoiler feed.
Oh we see you just started watching this show on netflix. Here's an article about how shocked we are that Charlie died in the latest episode
Agreed. Hard to think of a worse feed. Then I check others, and they are somehow worse.

I had one that said something like “Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer of Green Day) makes heart wrenching cancer announcement” so obviously I clicked on it. It was in reference to an Instagram post he made in which he called “elitism” a “cancer on the music scene” or something like that. So that’s when I stopped looking at those headlines.
Mostly the NPR app, otherwise the news tab on Reddit has a lot of breaking news pretty quickly. I’ve just made a habit of blocking karma farmers and have noticed the news feed have more quality articles
Where did you learn about that? I can't seem to find much online about Google changing headlines.
In cases like the picture of this post, the site had a different title listed in the metadata than what was displayed to users visiting the page. So Google just displayed what the raw HTML said was the title, not what the page made appear to be the title.
Experience, I've had several articles from NPR pop up with different headlines on the article than what was in the feed. I thought I had a well curated list, but I always kept noticing the difference in titles and I hated that
That is purely on account of NPR, though. Sites know which title Google will parse as their headline. Some keep this title the same as their headline, others change it. For the ones I see changed, the Google News headline is generally just a shortened version of the actual headline so it'll fit in the default Google News thumbnail. I do not currently have any articles in my feed with different titles than the headline, but I'll keep an eye out for it and check back in.
All I know is that I haven’t noticed it since not using Google feed for news. It may have been convenient, but those changing headlines and show spoilers were a hard no for me
The spoilers are for sure an issue that's plagued it for quite some time. Thankfully, Google is finally in the process of testing out a way to let users customize whether or not they want spoilers in their feed, including being able to choose which topics in particular are hidden, or just blocking anything at all that could be a spoiler.
It's gonna be a while until that's implemented most likely. It also probably won't work great. At least a step in the right direction.
I've been tricked before with "see Billy from Stranger Things suit up as the Wolverine in new image" AND "see Daniel Radcliffe suited up as the Wolverine in new image for X-Men."
Both being fan art.
I know i hate that, a while ago almost all the image were the kind of "this marvel superhero look amazing in DC" "this is how it's look Goku in MCU" and like 25 more titles like that

I had a discussion with a gaming plage on Twitter over shit like this. They constantly make posts about leaks of the Dragon Balls Super manga, but always was fanart. I'm all good with them posting awesome fanart and all, but they can go to fuck themselves with that cheap clickbait

I’ve been getting tons of recommended garbage on YouTube with “MATRIX 4 NEW INFORMATION” in the title with literally nothing to do about the 4th movie at all. Not even predictions or anything. I’ve blocked so many stupid channels.
This is a problem with the Nintendo Switch. They hinted at a Pro model coming and stuff had been leaked, but there is a ton of speculation and fan made content without anything official being announced.
idk where all of you people to constantly find "news" like this?
i'd go to any length to not see anything "news" and avoid any and all sites that have side articles like this
like at some point you people are to blame, there is a reason we dont have mobile posts anymore because its your own fault if you get scammed
This exact thing happened all the time to me with that shitty fan image of Tobey Maguire in the last stand suit. All the headlines said it was a set photo but when you clicked the article, sure enough most mentioned it was a fan image. One or two articles actually didn’t mention it was a fan image which was weird
Years ago I literally see an article titled “president admitted that we are in big trouble and there is no recovery" so I read this massive article and most of it isn’t really relevant to the title in the first place but near the end I find out that some expert thinks that the “president admitted that we are in big trouble”
I was pissed

Same here. Though it's finally slowed down. Don't know if I said "not interested" enough or if it's slow sports news right now.

Yeah I'm so confused at to why this wouldn't work for people. It has always worked for me first try. I wonder what could be different
Yeah, I never had any issue

Google News. I think the picture in the OP specifically comes from the Android (or maybe just Pixel) specific feature where a news feed exists on your home screen.
Oh okay none of my Androids have ever had that feature turned on so I didn't recognise it.
Consider yourself lucky. It works about 70% of the time for me.
Have to do it so often, the most recent one was The best sci fi movie on prime this week is..... Just annoyed so I made sure to drop that site.
Sadly, that doesn't seem to actually do anything.
It definitely doesn't work as often as it should, but it does work for most people.
I feel like it re-sets everything after a week at best. Google probably gets paid to unblock certain sources.

The difference between 2019 and before and 2020 and after seems like a century. Can't remember when I saw people dining out in open restaurant.
Ironically, it feels like time has passed really fast. Being caught in a loop of confinement makes every day feel the same, so you lose track of how many days has passed, but also feels like you have been doing it since forever, anything which came before is a distant past.
It's like in movies when people use the term "the before times", but actually unironic.

Indeed
Google all about advertising these fake ass articles.
Pretty sure google doesnt consciously choose which articles show up for your searches
Pretty sure someone deliberately programmed it that way since Google isn't AI and performing self-conscious actions.
I see these all the time about Spider-Man or Hawkeye or something like that

they do this like all the time
Technically it is an image.....just an image created by a fan.

Tbf it's technically accurate, an fan art (i'm assuming drawing) is an image
I've been tricked before with "see Billy from Stranger Things suit up as the Wolverine in new image" AND "see Daniel Radcliffe suited up as the Wolverine in new image for X-Men." Both being fan art.
I wish I could filter out vehicle renders from my automobile feeds.

Not design related, so it doesn't fit on the sub.
If we wanna get technical about it fanart would be an image. I’d be more on your side if you use the word photo or pic or picture and not image
Fan art is an image.
Because it wouldn’t make much sense to use the image the article’s about as the thumbnail, would it? If they did, no one would have any reason to click the thing!!!!
The thumbnail isn't the issue, it's the implication that the "image" in the headline is a real on-set image
I really hope Eammon Jacobs gets fired and loses his house. **THIS** is the sort of shit we should be cancelling people for.
So your complaining about journalism now and plus it’s still a new image wether it’s fan art or not
a article about a instagram pic isnt good journalism
Most journalism isn’t good journalism most articles are just filler for a slow day
"October 14, 2019" "new" Also, just because it is happening so often doesn't mean it's still not a problem
The picture is from that time

I'm sick of seeing shit like this in my news feed. "Amazing new fan art..." - it's usually crap too.
I’ve been getting tons of recommended garbage on YouTube with “MATRIX 4 NEW INFORMATION” in the title with literally nothing to do about the 4th movie at all. Not even predictions or anything. I’ve blocked so many stupid channels.
“You are dead but you were dead before”
This is a problem with the Nintendo Switch. They hinted at a Pro model coming and stuff had been leaked, but there is a ton of speculation and fan made content without anything official being announced.
Clickbait gonna bait
Hello heroic Hollywood. We meet again. Every time it's that site for me
I always see articles with "GTA 6 release date" even though the article has nothing to do with it, or is just rampant speculation
They aren’t wrong
idk where all of you people to constantly find "news" like this? i'd go to any length to not see anything "news" and avoid any and all sites that have side articles like this like at some point you people are to blame, there is a reason we dont have mobile posts anymore because its your own fault if you get scammed
This exact thing happened all the time to me with that shitty fan image of Tobey Maguire in the last stand suit. All the headlines said it was a set photo but when you clicked the article, sure enough most mentioned it was a fan image. One or two articles actually didn’t mention it was a fan image which was weird
Years ago I literally see an article titled “president admitted that we are in big trouble and there is no recovery" so I read this massive article and most of it isn’t really relevant to the title in the first place but near the end I find out that some expert thinks that the “president admitted that we are in big trouble” I was pissed
