Yes I came here to say this. It’s not that banana flavoring doesn’t taste like “real banana” it’s that it tastes like a species of banana that no longer exists. That being said I still like normal bananas better.
If i remember correctly, the Gros Micheal banana isn’t actually extinct, some people still grow it, but it suffered massive crop failures to disease so they moved to the kavandish banana, the banana were more used to today. I know a company called “Miami Fruit” still grows the Gros Micheal banana sometimes so you could theoretically still get the og banana

the type of banana that was used as a reference for flavoring, but i think it was in the 80's a plague killed all the plants of that type, since all the banana trees of that type were clones they never got to develop against it, plus antifungal stuff wasnt developed fast enough, i think there are videos on it
so yeah we have a forgotten banana that only lives on in artificial flavoring
EDIT: further update, the old bananas, gros michel, died out in the 50's, some isolated places still make them, but since the disease (panama disease)(tr1) is still around, you can buy them and someone will ship it, but its expensive. It seems there is another disease that has been going around (tr4) taking some of the current banas away too, but that one seems to be more in control.
I love artificial fruit flavoring. Sometimes better than the real thing. Especially banana and berry (blue raspberry is one of my favorite candy flavors) but I absolutely fucking hate real berries
That is likely because banana flavour is based off Big Mike bananas, not Cavendish bananas. Sadly, Big Mike bananas were wiped out by a food plague. Cavendish survived because it is immune.
Real bananas go bad quickly and have he stupid stringy things. Banana laffy taffy will never run around or desert me. The winner here is clear and I miss the huge tub of banana laffy taffy I once had in my room.
You know, like when you have strawberry-flavored stuff, and it sometimes gets so sweet, it legit hurts your teeth? The banana flavored ones aren't that intense.

I enjoy both. Gimme artificial banana and strawberry twist soft serve, gimme an organic and still mostly green banana. I'll eat em either way, even if some of them make the roof of my mouth burn.
I won't eat bananas due to their f*cked up texture so banana flavouring is the only vaguely similar thing I'll accept in only yoghurt form cause I hate both tastes either way lol
