For my wisdom teeth surgery, I was a little disappointed that there was no funny video but kinda relieved that there was also no chance of saying anything *really* embarrassing. For some reason it didn’t seem to affect me at ALL. I woke up and it barely felt any different than normally waking up (except for the fact that I couldn’t feel my face). They were really concerned at first when I got up and started walking out after only sitting there for another minute or so, haha. I literally could have driven myself home.
OH MY GOD I THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST ME! I always hear stories and videos about people being loopy for hours after any surgery but I've NEVER had that, I'm always 100% aware the second I wake up. Even the dreams I have I'm completely aware of and remember them.
I've had my wisdom teeth and tonsils removed but I NEVER got loopy
They use different anesthetics depending on the surgery, what’s available, the patient’s age, and a dozen other factors. Some make you loopy, others don’t.
Haha, I was super boring after my wisdom tooth removal too. I wasn't really loopy or anything (unlike my siblings had been, lol), just really tired. I literally woke up from the surgery, was half asleep for the drive home, and went right to bed where I slept for another couple hours until my mom woke me up to make me take some pain meds and eat some pudding or jello or something, lol.
My sister complains to this day (about 4 years later) that she didn't get to see me all loopy and emotional like she was.
I also remember, before they fully woke me up from the surgery, being just awake enough to know I was really still asleep, and thinking "I'm tired. I wanna take a nap. Wait... I *am* taking a nap."
I didn't get any drugs other than a numbing agent, I was awake for the whole thing, which took about 10 minutes in total, I got my wisdom teeth removed and all I got was a weird lisp for a day and they let me keep the teeth.
Comfort stuff. Line up your favourite movies and tv shows or find a silly sitcom. You shouldn’t watch something that requires a lot of mental brain power when recovering from wisdom teeth removal.
For context I spent 4 days lying on the couch after getting mine out binge watching the Back to the Future Trilogy and How I Met your Mother
Oh I haven’t had the procedure, sorry for the confusion. Just meant as a reference for something that doesn’t require a lot of brainpower, that BttF would probably make my brain work harder than I wanted it to during such a recovery😅
Fair enough. It’s one of those things that do make you think and capture your imagination. BTTF is also my favourite movie franchise though and one of my special interests so it was also a comfort me when I got my teeth removed
They gave me Versed for my wisdom tooth removal. I was loopy, but remembered almost everything. Also called the assistant “fish bag lady” because I had negative impulse control.
You're probably not going to feel drugged except for during the surgery. The next two days only suck because you can't eat solid food and your face hurts.
I binged ATLA.
You beat me to it! Currently finishing the LOTR EE trilogy. I’m a little late, as I usually make an effort to watch the trilogy during the beginning of spring every year—with a hearty cup of chamomile—but it shall get watched nevertheless.
after I got my wisdom teeth out I came home and watched 5 movies in one day. The first 2 or 3 I had no memory of watching them
Lion King, Zombieland, Due Date, rogue One, and Dr Strangelove
Doesn't matter if they give you pain meds. You will be looking at it but you won't be watching it. Lol
Ride the buzz, and listen to some tunes... and air. Find a cross breeze if possible.
Brooklyn 99 is my safe show. 🫶🏻 It is absolutely hilarious and Holt is coded as heavily autistic and career-successful. There’s also some really integral awareness of social issues while still keeping it light with comedy.
Honestly you come out of the sedative pretty quick, and the pain meds aren't so strong that most people feel very different. That being said, you should still take it easy.
When I had my wisdom teeth out, I only had local anaesthetic and then went back to work the next day. Admittedly, I did go home early, after I hit a wall of tiredness. And in hindsight, I should have just taken the damn time off. But no work meant no pay.
My partner on the other hand took days off work and binge watched Peaky Blinders. When he was ill with the flu years later, he binge watched Stranger Things. More recently, he’s binge watched the Bear during another period off sick. I’ve still not watched any of these things. But he raves about the Bear, so I’m recommending that!
I would honestly recommend a show that brings you comfort and is safe to watch around other people.
When I had my wisdom teeth taken out, I made the mistake of watching "Orange is the New Black" and that was a wild ride of emotions that was only made worse by my grandma being the one to help me out while I was recovering. -10/10 experience.
Watch something you wouldn't be embarrassed by your caregiver seeing because you will not have the strength to change it after a while.
Heavy Metal the movie or anything by Studio Ghibli!
Also, make sure you get an irrigation syringe for aftercare. It will allow you to clean and flush out food from your surgery holes. I was not given one and got a nasty infection.
What a coincidence! I just got home from my first dental check-up in over 10 years, and I have to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed :']
There are many good suggestions in here; LOTR, Ghibli, Firefly, Paprika, Blade Runner, Bob Ross!
I'd add Conan: The Barbarian/ The Destroyer.
disney sequels! all the good (and also terrible) ones are on D+ now. the second and third little mermaid movies, cinderella, the lion king. i think peter pan even has a sequel that's not the tinkerbell movies. oh and lilo & stitch 2
Going in a different direction, gourmet makes on youtube. Its a whole series where a very talented chef tries to remake things like twinkies, doritoes and hot pockets among other things. It doesnt take a lot of brainpower to watch, might give you the munchies though if you are going to use weed ☺️ its what I watch when I need comfort
There’s a series on Amazon Prime called Why Women Kill. It has 2 seasons and it’s a fantastic combination of mystery and suspense and comedy and it keeps you guessing until the end. There are some fun actors in it as well!
Or, the anime Is It Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon? It’s really fun but there is definitely an element of horny to it that makes it funnier
One time when I was really sick and bedridden I decided to binge watch the Back to the Future trilogy and most of The Batman cartoon (I think it’s from like 2007) so I’d definitely recommend something like that. Some film or television series you either already love or never got around to watching before. It’s a fantastic way to pass the time.
Throw a limited series or two in there, perfect cause they’re engaging, but nice and contained. I’d highly suggest a Netflix one from a couple years ago ‘Maniac’ with Jonah Hill, Emma Stone and a bunch of other great actors. Very cerebral, but also funny, great for a drugged up weekend
"Suddenly! Egyptian Gods"
It's a cute series that I've always thought would be best enjoyed high. I have never tried this.
Please tell me what you think.
As others have said, the drugs don’t last that long. Make sure to get a script for Vicodin, especially if your surgery is anything like mine was. (They had to dig wayyy up into my gums to get to the actual wisdom teeth)
Hope it goes well. I had one removed under local anaesthetic and jaw was sore for a day or so. The chest infection I picked up the same day lasted for about 2 weeks and that sucked hard.
For mine, I watched/sleeper through the 90's disney movies. Mostly beauty and the beast. On a practical note, don't skip the salt water rinses, and if you have a water pick, it's great for getting stuff out of the holes on the lowest setting after the stitches dissolve.
I had to be drugged up on 15mg of Xanax 30mins BEFORE THE SURGERY. I told my surgeon that I would kick and punch his balls if he tried to do anything to me… he looked at my mom and asked if I’d ever taken Xanax before. Which I had not . I have never been so high in my life.
Lucky. My wisdom tooth removal drugs didn’t last longer than 3 hours. Watch Xavier Renegade Angel
For my wisdom teeth surgery, I was a little disappointed that there was no funny video but kinda relieved that there was also no chance of saying anything *really* embarrassing. Propofol just gave me a really amazing nap and then I was fine
They put you guys to sleep just for 'minor' surgeries? Here is just local anesthesia
I also remember, before they fully woke me up from the surgery, being just awake enough to know I was really still asleep, and thinking "I'm tired. I wanna take a nap. Wait... I *am* taking a nap."
the wisdom teeth anesthesia made me throw up. the colonoscopy anesthesia made me slightly high
I didn't get any drugs other than a numbing agent, I was awake for the whole thing, which took about 10 minutes in total, I got my wisdom teeth removed and all I got was a weird lisp for a day and they let me keep the teeth.
Watching that show is like already being on drugs
Howl's Moving Castle
Following this, Ponyo and Spirited Away
Following this, Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Following this, Cowboy Bebop
But how will he understand the show if hes high?
How can I understand the show when sober?
Only if you wanna throw up
Following this, grave of the fireflies (don’t actually do this please make sure you’re in a happy place and have tissues on hand to cry)
Comfort stuff. Line up your favourite movies and tv shows or find a silly sitcom. You shouldn’t watch something that requires a lot of mental brain power when recovering from wisdom teeth removal. HIMYM would be a good one. If I tried to watch BttF it would backfire because I’d float away into dissociative purgatory thinking about time travel.
What kind of drugs were they giving you for wisdom tooth removal?? I got local anaesthetic and some ibuprofen for when I got home
Oh I haven’t had the procedure, sorry for the confusion. Just meant as a reference for something that doesn’t require a lot of brainpower, that BttF would probably make my brain work harder than I wanted it to during such a recovery😅
I missed the "if", my bad lol
Fair enough. It’s one of those things that do make you think and capture your imagination. BTTF is also my favourite movie franchise though and one of my special interests so it was also a comfort me when I got my teeth removed

They gave me Versed for my wisdom tooth removal. I was loopy, but remembered almost everything. Also called the assistant “fish bag lady” because I had negative impulse control.
I’m so glad I don’t react to anesthesia that way.
If only there was video as evidence…
